I feel like the snake tail is no longer covered in scales from wear or tear, but simply changed to f e e l, to be able to experience things more with direct contact
It looks more like a worm to me. The skin is wetter and drawn tighter almost. It seems less perfect and more pathetic, which feels symbolic of Fulgrim's degradation to me. I love it
You can get a sense of the passage of time in the two models. The HH is newly ascended and basking in its beatific demonic glory, whereas the 40k model is one that has given into his excess over the last 10,000, with no satisfaction and purpose. He missed his chance for the ultimate glory at Terra, and now all he has left is diminishing returns. Deranged and demented is an apt description of Fulgrim’s decline in that time between models.
I totally agree with your take here. The two models are both lovely, but they represent different times and forms of Fulgrim. Personally, I love the new model and think it really lends itself to Fulgrim losing himself to the Warp and his new form whereas the older model is more a split between the new form and old.

Tbh that’s exactly what it’s done for me. The HH is vastly better, the only thing this one beats it in is that it’s slightly more suitable for 40k and obviously it’s plastic
Dammit, the only thing I can think of after hearing your analysis is Fulgrim popping up in front of someone and going "Do these bangles make my wings look fat?" 🤣
I've seen the face of the 40K Fulgrim described as variations of Nicholas Cage with vampire teeth ("Renfield"). I do like the difference between the HH version which is the temptation, and looking angelic in a way, then the 40K variation, with corruption having fully set in.
My idea for a paint scheme for new Fulgrim: Pale, pinkish, veiney skin, especially on the snake tail. The 4th face, but with Heath Ledger's Joker make-up. Purple armour with gold trim and red gems. Black scales and black cloak with red on the inside. I cant wait to paint this hideously perfect primarch!
Been obsessed with trying to guess the stats for this guy ahead of the official reveals that will come with the codex. Leaning towards them giving him 16" movement with toughness 10. No ranged weapons at all, and possibly up to 3 melee weapon profiles with two of those having extra attacks.
I love how these two models tell a story. How when he first ascended he retained some of his mortal ideals of perfection and beauty. But after 10k years of spiraling depravity in worship of Slaanesh he devolved. Scales removed for soft flesh shows that perhaps he required more tactile sensations. The once awe-inspiring wings atrophied from a more sedimentary lifestyle. The once beautific features lost to apathy for self care over pleasure. Armor discarded in favor indulgence in pleasure from pain.
The WH40k Fulgrim reveal was a Christmas treat worth the wait, it'll be a matter of time until we see the rest of the EC models for next year release soon. Happy holidays Kirioth and a new year.
I like your analysis that the heresy model is Fulgrim with stuff still to do while the 40k one is him with plenty of time to indulge. I'm also no that thrilled with the slaanesh symbol basically stuck onto the exposed flesh. I've been thinking what i can do to make it more to my liking. Overall I think the model is very well done. Looking forward to getting it and painting it up.
love the knew model. I think the lack of scales looks more demonics and less like a snake boy and in general its feels more like a Daemon. I think the HH models is awesome but one of my biggest problems with it was the fact that the wings were the saem size as the rest of the body.
I think the helmet would look better if it was a hybrid between eldar/space marine and more on point canonically. I understand they wouldn't want it to be too indistinguishable from the dark eldar cos theyre their own thing. The wings kinda do look small from the angle from the Heresy model, also I think itd be cool if they had dangly chains from them. Its an amazing model though. I like the crab claw tail personally, it shows like his further degradation into daemonhood.
I have seen a lot of people unhappy with the new model and I don't get it. It is a great model that took the base and kicked it up even more. I love how the model combines machine, demon, & Fulgrim. They gave the newer model a lil AOS flavor too. I am definitely getting this one even though I don't do 40K. I am just a huge fan of Slaanesh.
Your ambivalence is _delightful..._ "I don't like it... but I _like_ it... I like it _because_ I don't like it..." 🤣 The helmet actually makes me think of a kind of corrupted Howling Banshee mask...
I think ultimately the wings have to take a hit for the logistics of transportation. It won't look good if every assembled Fulgrim always has his wings breaking off
The fact it makes people uncomfortable is a plus, elegance is one thing, that is the 30k model...But this new one? It’s decadence and depravity incarnate...Perfection 👌🏻
I have weird mixed thoughts about him Ultimately I think the Heresy model is a fair bit better across the board. If you actually closely look at the armour and the amount of detail in it it’s incredible. The face, hair and horns are way better although I accept what people are saying that maybe it’s too beautiful for how he would look after all this time. The pose is also better. So I think it was always going to put them in a tough position to make a 40k one but they’ve done a solid job and a few things are better. I slightly prefer the fishy tail and crab claw on the end. I also think a whip is a great addition. Really the main problem I have with this new one is the face. He looks like a vampire and not a cool one. I think they really dropped the ball there. Also the hair is a bit shit and the horns are more bloodthirster looking than Slaaneshi looking. Ultimately I think the HH one can fit 40k fine you would just have to paint the face to look more disturbing than beautiful. If you can do that you have a better model even for 40k imo
People are complaining about how "ugly" the 40k version is compared to the 30k version. I mean 10k years of space drugs and a Nuclear Virus bomb to the face will to that to a primarch...
Tbh when I saw it I was disappointed at first, I immediately thought "yeah the 30k one is better" lol, but looking at it more I think I like it more and more. I think its down to the pose, the 30k one, you have a better look at the scales, making it look more detailed, also the wings are better spread out (even though its a pain for gameplay I get it), and more armored. Still, the hairs and face are ugly with this one lol, maybe the face is just a question of paintjob tho. Still, overall didn't get the "wow" effect from me like all the other Daemon Primarchs, and will require a lot of kitbash to get it to my liking, but that's a project I'm ready to embark on, even the others I liked it way more I heavily converted ah ha
The only thing that’s not clicking for me is the hair, it looks too static and solid, angrons butchers nails have more shape and flow to them, and Khorne shouldn’t make anything more elegant than something slaanesh makes
Horus heresy version makes a lot more sense because the wings are proportionate. The new wings are way too small for the size of the rest of the model. I do like and prefer the body of the new model though
This community has such babies. Literally so many people crying about the primarch models. This model is good. The only real complaints are maybe the hair and lack of scales.
I feel while the 30k fulgrim is a solid 7 out of 10 the new 40k fulgrim is a 4 out of 10 on a good day. The heads are a desaster, looks like my granny when she takes a dump. The only useful one is the helmet which looks way more likf khorne. The really nice snake likd scales from 30k turned now into a scaleless fish for some reason. The overall mini is a copy and paste of a trygon + keeper of secret with huge drukhari scourge wings. While the 30k one has a really nice armour it get really messy on this one. Looks veryweird from the front and almost insect like from the back. Also no idea why his arms seem to have different lengths or at least they look way out of proportion. The wings are the only really nice thing here. I would take the 30k fulgrim any day of the year, maybe switch the wings
I feel like the snake tail is no longer covered in scales from wear or tear, but simply changed to f e e l, to be able to experience things more with direct contact
Devious thinking, likely true to be honest.

God I love just how *distinct* this model is
30k Fulgrim is an ornate Snake Demon. 40k Fulgrim is a depraved *Serpent,* not purely a snake
Rylanor gave that lad a virus bomb makeover and Fulgrim's never quite gotten that facade of humanity back since
Of course not, it's not anyone would take by choice. Humans are boring in fantasy.😂

I'll say this, you have warm me up to the mini. I looked at that model and thought, "cheap imitation." But now I have a new appreciation for it.

The best way I’ve heard it is that an extra 10,000 years marinating in the warp tends to have...consequences 🤷🏻♂️

The armour design on the 40k Fulgrim looks like it was designed for AoS
They do seem to be taking design cues from the Hedonites of Slaanesh. Chaos aesthetics tend to be more unified across settings, so it makes sense.

The HH is a display piece, the wings for the 40k are sized for transport.
I thought this too initially, but i think the wings are extending backwards instead of up so they are a little bigger than they look in the images
