Greetings from Finland. All these 3 instances being coincidences is so unlikely that I'd prefer if Sweden and Denmark banned all ships from crossing through their waters that are coming or going to Russia.

Don't forget to include Germany. Some of these ships could also go through the Kiel Canal.

I agree and I ashamed we have not closed the straits for them, Chineese and Russian boats. This is acts of war and well within what we can do then. And even if not, we need to act and stop being pussies.

As a Swede I agree, but this has to be an EU and NATO effort. We need to provide a unified front, as a blockade could be seen as an act of war.

Only block access to "dark fleet" vessels. There's nothing wrong with demanding ships to be insured, final beneficial owner being known and crew to have proper training. Especially in light of the "mistakes" and "accidents" that happened recently.

According to the statements given to the press in Finnish, the sequence of events was so that the vessel was contacted via radio and apparently asked to stop, which it complied with. When Eagle S was accompanied by authorities, it was still dragging its anchor. When it was ordered to rise the anchor, only the chain came up, the anchor having been severed at some point. Vessel Turva then escorted the vessel to the position where it was anchored and remains as of now, and where it was eventually boarded by the police and border guard. Reportedly, the crew complied with the authorities all the time when told to move the vessel to where it ended up anchored. The boarding by two helicopters (one from the military and one from the border guard) occurred only about 12 hours after the Estlink 2 cable was severed, apparently when the ship was already at anchor, accompanied by Turva all the time.
Crew are reported to be Indians and Georgians by nationalities.

As told by a Finnish colleague, “we have gone to war with Russia multiple times in the past 100+ years. Once we even started it because we knew war was coming regardless.” Finland values its independence, and keeps its country prepared to defend it. Adult males remain in the reserves until 50yo, or 60yo depending on rank.

      @lacdirk 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@@nbell5050 How's that related to the sea traffic in the Baltic? Clearly, the ships going in the Baltic need to be properly insured, their final beneficial owner needs to be known and its crew needs to be fully certified. No one is going to see that as excessive after what happened. If that stops the entire black fleet from entering the Baltic sea, then that's an issue for the criminal syndicates operating the black fleet.

Been a heliguard on semisubmersible oil platforms and worked as a firefighter on ferries (been a passenger on Tor Scandinavia when a Norwegian arsonist set it on fire and killed a pair celebrating their silver anniversary)! The first ship that came to our assistance was a Soviet tanker, and then came the West German Navy, in the form of a destroyer, that sent a firefighting unit onboard to help the crew, which had fought the fire for 12 hours by then. Within an hour the fire was quenched!

I'm guessing they learnt from the ships that have kept their anchors after dragging them. The damage to the anchor is pretty unique depending on the type of cable they've damaged. The cable damages done over the last few years has made me think a lot about the face of modern warfare, as these cables are going to be targets for all types of attacks if open hostilities start, cutting vast swaths of the world off from one another.

Unmanned drones would be ideal to monitor marine traffic. They can patrol the sea lanes and observe vessels. If you want, they can shadow vessels to monitor if anchors are lowered.

Sal, when did New New Polar Bear lose the stack? If it was after the drag, they could have been trying to dump a specific can prior to boarding and inspection. I have no idea if that was the timing. But the Lloyds article makes one think...

What are the chances that Finland by itself or with the help of NATO decide to close off the Baltic to all Russian shipping?
I know that would pretty much be a declaration of war, but you can't have the Russians cruising around cutting cables.

It wouldn't be a declaration of war, like Turkey closing the Black Sea to Russian military ships wasn't, but it should be done. China too.
Letting this pass without a serious response will just convince Russia and China to keep doing it.

One of the projects I had recently was designing software to 'flag' anomalies in real-time from massive amounts of data collected from automobiles globally. Looking at the Lloyd's Itel site, I'm guessing they, or their raw data provider(s), have similar systems in place to trigger various alerts when any ship exhibits abnormal behaviors as well as 'tag' given vessels in order to apply extra scrutiny as need be.
    Interesting stuff.

Comrades Putin and Xi will swear to you that these were honest mistakes that happen all the time. One of their superbly trained and vastly superior mariners "accidentally" pulled the lever that lowered one of the anchors just before the ship crossed a cable. Hey, accidents happen right?

The smell of false flag operations / false accusations in the Baltic Sea for a long time. That's one of several reasons why Finland and Sweden joined NATO in a hurry. Whole idea is to provoke hostility to the point where Russian shipping is practically blockaded? This is part of the overture to WWIII that is lighting up in all sorts of ways. Thanks for informative videos!

The port side opening were the anchor is supposed to be has a nice and shiny spot were the anchor chain recently rubbed the rust off of. Or did they leave port with out an anchor and they just had a crewman go down there with a wire brush to polish up that spot?

There is no way they expected to do this and not be noticed that it was them. How hard would it be to target a specific cable with an anchor? They were doing 8 knots when it supposedly hooked up ,is that the usual cruise speed in that area? More questions need to be answered.

The ships should be insured against this. If they damage things on bottom, their insurer is going to pay. Ship without insurance are suspicious and will be closely monitored, in dangerous (to the bottom instalations) waters not allowed to go by any speed higher than crawl...
Their insurer will make sure (in own interrest) that those things happen as seldom as possible... or their insurance skyrockets.

But one thing I think with Russia not all but a large part is-because of the sanctions etc it’s obvious their ahem black budget could have gone up 10 fold or more likely 110 fold
That’s a quantum leap in the industry of bent activity that I think will not fade any decade soon….an eventual potential peace deal will be good on one hand but you can imagine albeit thankfully obvious human loss largely reduced all the bent stuff again will continue
