A pigtail is when you splice two wires together and get another wire that is not connected to anything previously and splice the three wires together and then put it on your switch for grouter and neutral or whatever that hole is for making a hook on your wire to go around the screw

Great video. You are lucky if you can use a knife like that, on my sites they have been banned and you have to use a knife with an auto-retracting blade. That NCVT is nice, looks like an OLED display, will be interesting to see how long the batteries last if it is.

I have the MM500 as a belt pouch multimeter and more recently the MM700, both nice little meters, I do they should come with the magnetice clip though, considering CEF are the sellers , they don't list the leads, croc clips or the magnetic clip as available accesories !! a case is listed but that is as you say, provided with the MM700 Buy a Fluke,Martindale etc and hey presto...they are listed and available, which is of course the way it should be if they are serious about serving the UK market. It is imprtant to have the correct leads as they can be stored and used in the two areas on the back of the case.
Of course you can order from Amazon and wait until mid March, if you live in the USA you can buy them from Home Depot....USA version of B&Q, but expect them to be listed at CEF ? nah, too much to expect. ..ask them why?

I would say that if you're a professional you should be using a true RMS meter if you're not then you can get away without it but as a professional I believe that you should be getting most accurate and the best tools you possibly can

And another safety note for the non-contact voltage detector is anytime you ever use it you want to test it on a circuit that you know to be alive and a circuit that you know to be dead

  • @bloodsongthesparkywolf3717
    @bloodsongthesparkywolf3717 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Also to know on the voltage detectors they only sent a/C voltage and it does not work on DC voltage DC voltage chart of the comes around with batteries so if you know what's coming from a battery you want to get your multimeter output it on DC and then test it that way because here non-contact voltage detector will not detect DC voltage

So with multimeters I would call them table top meters they're not really practical in the field they're big in you know they're meant to sit on the table top and they have too many settings you don't really need that many settings I personally like the fluke T5 which is it has amperage for smaller cables I think you can fit up to a but pretty much anything you need I have a clamp meter in my bag for that then it gives you AC/DC voltage continuity amperage and that's all I use it's all I need the multimeter has depending on which one you get to like 20 settings you just too much you don't need it and then I have a plant meter CL 35 I think it's a cklein true RMS clamp meter

Yeah, don't get caught with that knife, if the blade locks and its over 3" in length..yer done. If it is a 'slip joint' knife and under 3" blade, and you have a good reason to carry, that could be different.

Sorry to burst your bubble there but...IP stands for' Ingress Protection', it is the the first digit following is for solids, the second digit is for moisture, the higher the digits, the better protection, not the letters IP.
Also, remember that an NCVT is NOT an approved tester for you primary test for voltage testing, that would have to be a tester that is HSE GS38 document compliant... must not rely on a battery to function and approved test leads.
I think they call them a 'ticker' in the USA, I do have two Klein ones already, plus a Greenlee, but not for primary voltage tesing.

@@danstoolroom7700 Sorry Dan..check at 10.35 into your video and you clearly speak of the I as being the dust rating, and the P as the water resistance. Surely you don't think I did not check that before responding ?
Plus there is a higher rating than 68 such as a 68S but you were unlikely to have heard of that.

    • @oyleyhands1332

@@danstoolroom7700 Not at all, but some accuracy has to come in somewhere, and CEF not listing accesories is not down to you .
Plus, you do ask for comments and, my comments are valid, you are reviewing products and as such, with the wider audience of TH-cam can be described as an infuencer.
I stated facts, and I stated what you said about the IP rating and you came back with a comment and you contested it without checking !
Sometimes, a bit of humble pie does not taste so bad and for sure, gives more credibility to a reviewer.
You have to have broad shoulders if you put things out there and ask for comments, and hey, sometimes you have to hold your hands up if you got something wrong, and you did, and you did not even accept that !
You unpacked three Klein products, not done a full review yet are full of praise for them
You state that Klein want and honest view, I find it really strange that you don't want an honest view yourself, albeit, you ask for one ?
Klein send you products for review, we all know they don't want any negative reviews, at all, if there was, you would never see more product dropping on your doorstep, simples.
It's not (by your own admission) as if you have many years in the electrical field, I don't even know if you have an electrical qualification, but, and it's a big but, Klein know they going to get favourable reviews, lets not be naive about this.
They want exposure and good reviews, and they can cleay see that they are going to get that, hence the goodies coming your way.
I offer to send you a couple of handy wee gadgets and guess what, absolutely no fecking gain for me whatsoever, in any shape or form, just a wee gesture as I know that the same items I have, and use.
I was not offering those wee items for any exposure of commercial gain, as there cannot be one.
Begs the question how freakin difficult is it to get them to you ?
To end this...Super Rod and Klein , Klein Tools Inc own more than 50% of shares in Super Rod, but not greater than 75% but they are separate registered businesses and with two USA persons as directors of Super Rod. also they occupy the same address in the UK.
By the way, I have loads of Super Rod Products and they have had many a 'real world' test and have always worked well for me and I mean over many years. I do use a stronger magnet on the Gekko though.

      Yup...move forward
No need to appoligise to me..I know full well that IP means Ingress Protection, but remember, you responded to me without checking, It's always a good idea to check before responding, I checked what you said before I commented ,I was surprised at that.
Its a bit like measure twice, cut once.
I am far from perfect but have learnt to check, and be humble. I don't actually mind being wrong as it is... another lesson learned. It is far easier to say, yeah you are right than carry on making mistakes about the same thing.
But really...don't rely on the use of a 'ticker' hell, even static can light those up.
It would be my guess that if one were on an electrical course, on a practicl lesson, they would be banned by an instructor from the workshop, just as much as a neon screwdriver.
How many must have had electrical shocks following relying on those to test for present voltages...hell, most users don't even know you have to complete the circuit by touching the metal tip at the top of the handle, your body is completing the circuit !!!
A two pole GS38 voltage tester and using a proving unit before and after the test is the approved way of testing for voltage, it can contain a digital readout but not rely on batteries to function, only the voltage present that you are testing for.
A multimeter does not meet that requirement, nor a ticker.
A ticker does have its uses but not as the definitive tester for proving the source for isolation and for proof of isolation.
You get an electric shock , and I don't know a spark that has not, do you take the same action that gave you the shock ? hell no, hopefully.
Is part of a qualifiction for a security engineer not an electical course ? it was when I took the original C&G course , I must admit, I only ever attended for a few of those evening classes, I had an exemption as I already had a few C&G in electrical installation from my apprentice days.
The course was three nights a week and from memory, one night was security, one was electrical and the other was H&S..again, I only attended a few of those nights as I was just too busy at work, plus was about to be seconded into a sales role.
I did get asked to go back next year to teach the security class, which I did, and got paid !
I don't think presenting a video is easy, for sure but you could use the benefit of....editing, or repeat before posting. The first time you stand up in front of other qualified engineers is not easy as that is really live, no editing or repe t options ! And I can guarantee that answering/ responding to any comments or critisism face to face is much worse, they were not kids like in school where where a teacher used to command a bit of authority in times gone by.

@@oyleyhands1332 Officially IP means International Protection (code) against the ingress of water and foreign bodies (starting with finger size, going down to dust particles). It's common to say IP stands for ingress protection, because that's what it actually is.
