Since coming from KB you could have just taken a bus to Rantu Panjang. Buses near boarder. If i had contact i may have been able to give a ride. Been busy but kids weren't in school soay have been possible.

Try visiting northern Perak. People normally think of Kelantan, Perlis, Kedah when thinking of Malaysian borderlands with Thailand. But northern Perak also borders Thailand and I thinm could be interesting comparison.
Grab can take you anywhere in Malaysia. When you get to the boarder there are many scooter taxis and regular taxis. Just walk in. Get allowed at boader to Thailand the taxis are inside the boarder.
Sungai Golok is a bigger town and cleaner than it's Malaysian counterpart, Rantau Panjang bcuz it used to attract a lot of tourists. It has entertainment spots, a lot of bars and discos and a flourishing flesh trade which attracts visitors from as far as KL up to Spore. But business has been slow after Covid 19. Malaysians which keep the town alive has also stop visiting, esp. People from Kelantan which border the sub district as the Malaysian ringgit has dropped to 70 to 80 baht compared to 100 baht previously. That's why you see many shops closed as Malaysians are not coming to shop...

Similarly, the islands south of Singapore (below/beside Singapore such as Bentan, Daik, Lingga, and Riau etc) could have been part of Malaysia rather than Indonesia if not for Dutch interference, which caused their separation. These islands share the same accent as Johor, Malaysia.

I start to wonder why I go to more touristic spots and then I realize why after going to smaller towns haha. Both have the positives and negatives I suppose. First apparent different in Thai towns are the roads, it's mostly concrete cement, whereas in Malaysia is tar. Keep yourself 'clean' before re-entering Malaysia. Doesn't always happen, but it can happen, the random urine test for drugs at the immigration. It had happened to a friend. Not sure the outcome, but to avoid issues, just keep 'clean', although you may not be carrying it in your pocket. Golok has the dangerous reputation since the 1970s for illicit smuggling which include drugs. When there are smugglers there are gangs, and shooting was common. I've been going to Golok since the 80s, and live there for a month in the late 90s. It was ok but you can sense with a slight misunderstanding, things can go out of hand (witnessed it in front of my eyes). But it's 2024 now, I'm sure a lot of things have changed. But for some paranoid Malaysians, maybe the relying on old rumours... 😊
The biggest thing I noticed personally was how much cleaner and more tidy things were on the Thai side, compared to Kota Bharu and the Malay border town. Funny enough in the big cities it’s cleaner on the Malaysia side (KL versus Bangkok). Yea I’ve read online about urine testing being possible, mostly for Malaysians and not tourists but still they can do what they want. Even flying in from the US I would’ve always tested positive for thc if they tested me, even though I never consumed it in Malaysia. Thankfully no issues though 🙌
@@benfishermin yes, I've travelled by land to more than 50 provinces in Thailand (they have 76 provinces). I've been to the most northern border Mae Sai, western Mae Sot, to Nongkhai and the south. Thailand small towns are nice, and generally cleaner than the Malaysian ones. Agree too on Bangkok, if you take the train, you can start to see rubbish left and right of the track as you enter Bangkok. For us Malaysian, the other phenomenal thing about Thailand is their clean public restrooms/toilets. I've been to other ASEAN countries, I'd pun Thailand No1 on that.

Well I have to make the best of the situation when traveling to these smaller towns. That’s why I usually like to stay in the city, but I still get bored and I want to keep the content fresh. I’m thinking just to stay for a month in one place though and see how it goes.

Hey bro, wow just seeing your comment now! Cheese steak business in Thailand would be 🔥definitely much easier to start that kind of business compared to US, with way less money and no real paperwork. Many even doing it living undocumented in the country. It's pretty corrupt so any time something happens, cash is king, police come by and want some money to let you keep going with no problems. I've gotten pulled over on a 150cc bike for going through red light, and with no license. A quick 500 baht to the officer (around $15) and you're on your way 😂
