The Controversial History of Bully

In many respects, the open-world genre that Rockstar Games innovated sparked an overwhelming amount of controversy throughout the last two decades. This much especially holds true since bans and the ceaseless discourse surrounding violent video games continue to plague Grand Theft Auto. Red Dead Redemption is no stranger to similar criticism. And it doesn’t help that players of these franchises typically assume the role of career criminals, men who for one reason or another often find themselves partaking in deplorable acts. But Bully once saw the company exercise its free-roaming expertise beyond the realm of criminality to craft a different kind of sandbox adventure, one wherein over-the-top violence did not sit center-stage.
Bully still received far more than its fair share of backlash, however. The name alone ruffled the feathers of various organizations, politicians, and anti-bullying activists around the globe. Before the public had even seen the game in action, a series of relatively tame screenshots caused a stir, culminating in Bully being dubbed a Columbine simulator.
Yet, despite the contrived drama, this particular Rockstar project remains secure in its status as a fan-favorite. It’s rather unique, too. In between schoolyard-level mayhem, classes, and the occasional clever prank, players adopt the role of hero, standing up to bullies, though never actually playing the part. As such, Bully is more than a misunderstood classic, a game whose pre-release existence was bombarded with the most undeserving negativity.
This is the history of Bully.

I don't believe this is correct.
To create synergy, we require more than a concept and a strategy. The enterprise value proposition defines the strategy for value creation through alignment, but it doesn't describe how to achieve it. The alignment strategy must be complemented with an alignment process. The alignment process, much like budgeting, should be part of the annual governance cycle. Whenever plans are changed at the enterprise or business unit level, executives likely need to realign the organization with the new direction.
The alignment process, of necessity, should be cyclic and have a top-down bias. The targeted corporate synergies should be defined at the top and realized in the business units. Just as the CFO coordinates the budgeting process, a senior executive should coordinate the alignment process-a responsibility for the Office of Strategy Management (OSM). The annual planning process provides an architecture around which the alignment process can be executed. Following are the eight alignment checkpoints for corporate, business units, and support units of a typical multi-business organization to hit during the annual planning process.
Enterprise value proposition: The corporate office defines strategic guidelines to shape strategies at lower levels of the organization.
Board and shareholder alignment: The corporation's board of directors reviews, approves, and monitors the corporate strategy.
Corporate office to corporate support unit: The corporate strategy is translated into those corporate policies that will be administered by corporate support units.
Corporate office to business units: The corporate priorities are cascaded into business unit strategies.
Business units to support units: The strategic priorities of the business units are incorporated in the strategies of the functional support units.
Business units to customers: The priorities of the customer value proposition are communicated to targeted customers and reflected in specific customer feedback and measures.
Business support units to suppliers and other external partners: The shared priorities for suppliers, outsourcers, and alliance partners are reflected in business unit strategies.
Corporate support: The strategies of the local business support units reflect the priorities of the corporate support unit.
Using these eight checkpoints as a point of reference, an organization can measure and manage the degree of alignment, and hence the synergy, being achieved across the enterprise. Organizations that master this process can create competitive advantages that are difficult to dislodge.

One day a few months later, I came home from school and found the box missing; My mother had taken it away. I never found out why until about a year ago when I went home on leave. She found the disc while looking through her stuff, and told me she took it away because of the panties that show up on Jimmy's wall after the dating missions. I don't understand why I was constantly shoved into oncoming traffic, hair yanked out in clumps, urinated on, stabbed, cleaning products sprayed into my eyes, had my clothes torn off and my exposed body pointed and laughed at for "being so ugly". And throughout it all, not one adult ever did anything to intervene. Never. I'd bet dollars to donuts those are the same people complaining about this video game. Hypocrites who refuse to do anything when it really matters, they just give lip service by being "outraged" at this because it's easy, whereas making an actual change requires much more effort on their part. And why bother with that, when a handy scapegoat will do?
I have never played this game, but maybe I should. I don't know if it'd be cathartic or just a visceral reminder of my unhappy childhood, but either way at least it looks like a lot of fun.

Gaming _does_ look scary to the unitiated.
That's perhaps the tragic part of this never-ending conflict. Nobody ever thought about how petty and malicious bullies are. You go tell a teacher, you signal to the whole school that you're a bitch. My first introduction to Bully was...I want to say 2015? I watched Jacksepticeye play the game and absolutely fell in love. It’s by far my favourite Rockstar game, followed by Red Dead Redemption 2. I’ve been hoping for a sequel for years instead of continuing GTA. There’s been so many games in the GTA series, that having a Bully 2 would be a nice breath of fresh air. It’s got a nice, simple and interesting storyline with characters that feel like real people. Jimmy’s interactions with other people have always made me smile.
There’s no point to this, I just want a Bully 2.

We DEFINITELY need a more mature bully game set on a college campus. Even with it being a more mature theme it can still be very tastefully done in a manner that condemns bullying (and hazing in this specific setting) and even targets university corruption, amongst other aspects of college life. Gamers are missing out on a lot of good storytelling because of weak ass crybabies having knee jerk reactions to the titles of video games.

Can I just say how much I bloody love this channel!? It's actually so so good. I love gaming documentaries and these are so well edited and produced that it's amazing how they haven't amassed millions of subs yet. I have been recommending it to my friends because of how well put together these docs are. Just wanted to share my gratitude! Please don't stop releasing vids! :D

11:59 Bully wouldn't influence violence in schools. It was already depicting it.

The only controversy I remember about this game is when my Christian grandma stole it from me.

I used to love watching my brother play Bully when we were kids. I'd sneak into his room and play it when he went to football practice. This game is so lovable and nostalgic, I'm gonna go dig through old discs in the basement now to find it lol.

This is yet another wonderful video from the fine team over at GVMERS. Bully was so very indicative of all the really great aspects of so many Rockstar games that followed it. GTA 4, GTA5, RDR 1 and 2 all owe a great debt to this pioneering title. The real tragedy is that it never received a sequel. Maybe THQ can create a spiritual successor. After all, if not for GTA, we would not have Saint's Row. I know Saint's Row is not everyone's cup of tea. That said, I would love to see what that team could do with this scenario if Rockstar is not going to give us a Bully sequel.

Didn't know that there is some HD PC version, finally I might be able to play Bully as it was originally only released for PS2 as far as I remember

The PC version of Bully is a bad port if I recall. However, the Xbox 360 version is the most polished port and has all of the stuff included in the PC version.

@@MrNull73 Well the pc port itself isn't outright broken but it has a number of bugs but like the PS2-era GTA games you can search the "SilentPatch" that fixes most of its issues (there are numerous guides on Steam also for those who want to make the experience as best as possible)
But it still has the buggy new missions from the other Schrolarship edition versions so it's not as it was on the PS2 per say unless there's a mod for that too idk

I only take the lessons that are necessary to gain new Weapons.
The true and only reason, THE GOAL, in this game that i am chasing is: Beating the kids&girls.
I fight for equality, thats why.
I can terminate my whole Dorm, beat up anyone out there without any aftermath, yet if i touch a girl or a kid or Prefect/Adult, 3-5 Prefect spawn out of nowhere and chasing me.
So im even more passionate about beating them up, think about new and more harmful/destructive ways etc. and become a efficent Hunter in a way.
Rise up my brothers, we aint taking those fighting lessons behind the Bus for nothing.
