      There's also this guy who does a boxing channel narration that has an Epic voice (Motivedia). I thought how cool it would be if those people with epic voices that do TH-cam channels would get together (I mentioned 2 but there are more I heard that were really good or naturally talented) and do a video stream with good quality mics...

    This documentary is pretty much a love letter to Looking Glass and the Thief Community. As one of the developers of The Dark Mod, I feel thankful for the big mention of our labor-of-love. Version 2.08 is just around the corner which will finally bring Screenspace Ambient Occlusion. This rendering technique improves the overall presentation of the game quite a bit. Check it out, people! :-)

      AAA companies fail to fulfil anything for me nowadays. I liked Witcher 3 but CDPR doesn't really operate like all the other AAAs(as of yet at least). Sekiro was a pleasant surprise but apart from that I usually find more joy from experiensing older games I haven't played or in the ever growing and imrpoving indie market. Sony has some great exclusives I'm told but I don't have a PS4:)

      @@gentlesirpancakebottoms6692 Try new Prey. It's a immersive sim, not a shooter, most reviews got that wrong. And it's really good.
      Also I disliked Sekiro after playing Nioh. After having so many combat mechanics and such depth to combat, Sekiro really felt barebones and sloppy.

    • @gentlesirpancakebottoms6692
      @gentlesirpancakebottoms6692 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @James Gk Actually I wouldn't, But the studio itself identify as such. Just like the original Mount and Blade (developed by taleworlds) was considered indie despite being published by Paradox. I was a bit perplexed but apparently Greedfall is made by a French indie developer. As Focus does not have ownership of the IP and just Published the game it's considered an indie title and was created and is owned by Spiders.

And even if they did...information was not so easily or readily available. They'd see Thief on the store shelf and not know a thing about it. Is it good? Is it trash? Who knows? It seems like Eidos Montreal didn't have any idea as to what Thief was all about in the first place, nor did they even care at all. No Keepers, Hammerites, Pagans, Mechanists, techno-medieval aesthetics, Monty Python humour etc. Nothing related to Thief at all, except for a few similar names without any context. Why call your game Thief when it has nothing to do with the original games... Why reboot it when you're not gonna use any of its story elements? Eidos Montreal should've created their own IP instead of tainting a perfect trilogy. Turning such a unique and intriguing world into a generic Victorian steampunk setting is a blasphemy. And perhaps the worst crime of all, THERE IS NO "TAFFER".
    If you're going to make a Thief game, you better use TAFFER, or else, you're a big TAFFER.

      I played the demo in March of 99 for the first time. I still remember that feeling. The close stone walls, the atmosphere, the tension. And it was so damn novel. People take for granted that the most popular kind of "stealth formula", as it were (how AI reacts to you, what kind of sounds they make, and the stealth gameplay loop they create) didn't exist until Thief. Note that there is a possibility as well to play T2 with another player, it just requires some additional programs/loaders iirc, same for System Shock 2!

      I am not even sure about that. Its like the Star Wars or Highlander sequels, you can ignore them all you want but it still got made and it still happened.

    Love the Thief games so much. Dishonored series does a great job of keeping that Thief vibe alive. Even uses Garret's voice actor as the main character!

    Stealth games used to be good, until they decided stealth was just an option and made every game a video gamey path system where you can and probably should just break out a fucking bazooka. Before they'd create a realistic environment and then let you find your way through it with light, shadow and misdirection... Now its just these nonsense video game stages where crates and short walls are aligned for you to go one of 3 directions, avoiding the heavy guard, the regular guard and the scout guard as they go back and forth on their path.
    Oh here, why don't you also press this button to see through walls and press this button to highlight all the contextually interactive objects or specific areas we've designed for you to go? How about instead of using your weapons, you can just press this button to watch this long ass take down animation in 3rd person?1 ISN'T IT BADASS!?

      That game I think you're talking about was more dumbed down than the Thief reboot. I'll never understand why that game was praised and Thief was hated when they both heavily streamlined the source material. It's like heres the door where you can take cover (and be basically invincible if youre not a moron) and kill everyone or sneak through a convenient air vent. Hope you brought lots of candy bars because for some reason you need those to punch people. Theres somehow less variety in the gameplay than the color palette

      You basically just summed up why I haven't played anything made after like 2005 or so. The big studios don't even make games anymore. They're just a corporate bullet list of features crammed into a single package.

    While I actually rather enjoy Thief 4, there is simply no denying that it failed to live up to it's legacy, especially against Thief 2.

    Jesus, LG’s Thief 3 would’ve been open-ended. Thief in an open-ended Skyrim/Red Dead Redemption world would be the greatest game ever
