regardless of where you came from your ancestors clattered the bones and the antlers, they chanted, they pounded the drums, this is the oldest music humanity has ever known, the words and the rhythms may have been slightly different but we all did it, whether in celebration or to deal with loss or connect with the spirits we all made music like this.

The song's title can be found in the Mesogothic Anglo-Saxon glossary as "In-Maidjan", which means "deceptively change" or "corrupt". This makes sense since the entire story within the album consists of a peaceful village that is corrupted by having to go to war. Therefore, Proto-Germanic seems to be the language.
Harigasti Teiwa Harigasti Teiwa "is a clear Germanic reference to the Negau helmet. This helmet contains several Etruscan alphabet inscriptions that include the words" Harigasti teiwa which are the first words of the song. This could be translated as Harigast (the priest) although it could also mean, the priest of Teiwaz (Tyr). "Harigast" is often (not always) seen as a personal name and that it could be made up of the words "harjaz" (army, troop, warband, war) and gastiz (stranger, guest). The forms "Hari" and "gast" is particularly found in west-germanic. As such the name could mean "war guest" or "foreign army".
Tawol Athodu - I accept the invitation.
Ek Erilaz - I am a runemaster. The word has been interpreted to mean magician or runemaster. The word is an ablaut variant of count and it is believed that it could be linguistically related to the name of the tribe of the Heruli or Herulos. The Heruli were a Germanic tribe from Scandinavia that was invaded by the Roman Empire in the 3rd century. So it is probably simply an old military title of Germanic provenance.
Owlthuthewaz - owlthu (glorious) thewaz (servant). Means servant of the glorious
Niwaremariz - Priest of the god "Ullr" / famous, renowned. From the proto-Germanic term Wulþuz (glory) wolþu- is possibly a reference to a God, surely the God Ullr.
Saawilagar Hateka - My name is Sawilagaz.
Harja - Army - leader of the army; commander; Warrior
Wuotani Ruoperath Wuotani - Oh, Wodan! Ruoperath - famous and brilliant.
This could be interpreted as the following:
    I, Priest Harigast.
    Aaccept the invitation (to battle)
    I am the Heruli.
I am a renowned priest of Ullr.
    They call me Warrior.
Oh, Wodan the famous and brilliant!
The next chant are the names of the 24 Norse runes of the Elder Futhark. This is also known as runic song.
    Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz,
    Raidho, Kenaz, Gebo, Wunjo,
    Hagal, Naudhiz, Isa, Jera,
    Eihwaz, Perthro, Algiz, Sowelu,
    Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz,
    Laguz, Ingwaz, Dagaz, Othala.
    In English:
    Wealth, Aurochs, Thorn, Divine Breath,
    Travel, Torch, Gift, Joy,
    Hail, Need, Ice, Harvest,
    Tree, Luck, Elk, Sun,
    Creator, Birch tree, Horse, Man,
    Water, Fertility, Day, Home.
    Odin, prepare for battle!
    A hug.

If they get anywhere near you, I highly recomend that you go see them. Two memebers of Heilung (Maria and Christopher) have a sideproject called Songleikr. Welcome to the healing power of Heilung. Maria Franz voice after the Runic chant will release anything inside that needs to come out so dont feel hesitant to hold it in. Its also one of the few times where you hear our Great Mother Earth speaking through someone calling people back to her. So if you feel overwhelmed yet comforted yet a tiny bit guilty then you know your heart is listening.
Their music will awake in you something old, something ancient, and has profoundly changed peoples lives and Heilung has definitely, along with other, set an enitre movement in motion. Bless them for it.

So incredibly cool in so many ways! Love this group!
When the young lady hits these high notes I think she uses a voice technique that was usually used here in the north of scandinavia called ”kulning”.
This was used to be able to sing messages to others over vast distanses before the telephone, but was also a signal to tell the cows, that where running free during the summer days, to come home for the night.
I even know a local folk university that teaches this. Very apprecuated by tourists in this area.
To Kula is for women only as I know. Traditionally.
Kula is local dialect and genrrally means to call. Lots of english influenses in the nordic languages and vice versa.

@@mikedempsey1496 yeah I know this is, I was referring to the other guys comment about nordic influence on the English language and vice versa. I was saying it was more the nordic (not viking) influence on English than the other way around. Although that did only come in the viking era. Unless the Angles spoke the same language as the vikings.

If you ever have the chance to witness a concert, go. It is not a concert, it is a ritual. They sage the stage before the concert. If they do concerts in a region or country where indigineous people still live, they ask for their permission first to do their concert on their land, because it is, as I said, not a concert but a ritual. And sometimes the indigenous people are with them on stage. They do not interact with the audience, they let you experience their music fully. I have never ever witnessed such good sound technicians, all the drums and noises vibrate through your body and although it is very loud it is really crisp and clear. Heilung is german and means Healing and this is what they want you to experience when they do their concerts. Kai-Uwe Faust, the throat singing shaman on stage is in fact not only a well known german and danish tattoo artist specialised in nordic tattoos, he is also a real shaman. He combines his tattoo sessions with healing rituals. And yes, the other guys are actually also very talented and members of other pagan bands, so is Maria Franz. We all love her.

It is literally a ritual. He introduces himself, by name. As the rune caller, the maidjan or magician. They then chant the runes, calling to the gods. The galdr or throat singing is to help open yourself to recieve a visit. In the end he again, makes the formal introduction and thanks the gods for coming. It seems he specifically was wanting to invite Odin, but you're gonna get who you get, and count yourself lucky you dont get Loki if you're not ready for him. 😅 It's a crazy experience but definitely a life changer.

Norwegian Maria Franz is simply a woman i call our secret weapon. People start getting aware of young Angelina Jordan, our wonderchild. But Maria Franz is that versatile vocal beast like noone else, and shes soo modest, such a sweetheart and so down to earth. Seeing all theese divas singing growing up,i find it strange to see someone that skilled,be soo modest and down to earth. Im very late to this party, but if you would like to hear more of her, shes in several projects. Heres a few suggestions:
Euzen - Judged By. Its Maria and her husband Christopher Juuls (hes also in Heilung) sideproject together, its more electronica inspired. And she brings different vocals there, like i said shes very versatile. And they got more songs then Judged By,they composed alot of songs together.
Songleikr | Ulvetime (Hour of the Wolf). Songleikr is theyr nordic project with native vibes, abit more like Heilung again but abit calmer. And once again,Maria brings different vocals. This is the only official recording, but youtube has alot more of theyr songs either by pure song uploads with a picture,or some live cellphone recordings. I think you would love Euzen - Judged By though.

First of your content I have seen. It's wonderful to see someone discovering, and appreciating something new and different. But your physical reactions said more than your words could ever have. And that was pure honesty! Your experience gives your opinion more weight than most reaction videos. And when you used the word Oxymoron I thought, "This young lady is smart too!" And your knowledge and comments helps me, someone who loves music, but has no idea how to make it, recognise and appreciate things that I would have missed. Like and a sub earned!

It is like it is tribal..... Maria's voice carries me away like a strong breeze, heavenly bit strong...
I must insist that you take a few deep breathes and refocus your being.... I shall answer your question, the lead-main singer is Maria Franz. She is 41 years old and was born in Norway..... I find this group and their work refreshing & different!!!! I do not understand the words they are singing, but that is O K too........
Such a simulation to the senses!!!!!!!!!!!! Mind blowing............. Near the end of the video it looked to me like the man was sawing a flute in half... Who knows???? I have read that they make most of their instruments and their costumes, mike stands, etc......

Not my text but all people should know the following ...
    Quote:
This song is actually a hymn for the god Tyr, who is the God of War and Justice. This is essentially a war chant, something said by the rune master as a sort of blessing over the warriors who are about to fight. They are saying "Tawol Athodu Ek Erilaz Owlthuthewaz Niwaremariz Saawilagar Hateka Harja" which means "I, the Rune Master, servant of Odin, call upon the one of the Sun to aid our army". The second part of the chant are the runes themselves which are elements of nature. The chant is as follows: "Fehu Uruz Thurisaz Ansuz Raidho Kenaz Gebo Wunjo Hagal Naudhiz Isa Jera Eihwaz Perthro Algiz Sowelu Tiwaz Berkano Ehwaz Mannaz Laguz Ingwaz Dagaz Othala" believe it or not they are actually speaking in old norse/futhark. The specific dialect is an older version of Icelandic which in itself is the closest to old Norse. Also, most of the vocalisations are meant to sound animalistic, as norse beliefs and Seiður magic have strong connections with animals and nature.
    Quote end.
    P.S.
Can you react... Pestilence - Out Of The Body ... i hope you enjoy it. ^^
