In my opinion, her Merging with the bison symbolized her final stage of stepping into her power as Anoana, protector of the people and the land. It was not suicide or end of life. It was transcendence, complete fulfillment of her shamanistic powers.

    • @xen0bia
      @xen0bia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

I was wondering if she wasn't in fact taking the ox's life. We saw that she could give life back with the bird, but in Nature things need to die too, things that have grown too old may need to be put down. What made me think of this is the fact that we see images of the same ox with the child petting it. She's older now, but so is it. My 2 cents.

    • @arjantjeee
      @arjantjeee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +79

@@xen0bia the ox depicts and symbolizes the rune Uruz. The man dancing around the fire with the antlers also makes the Uruz rune (also seen in the clip of Norupo where they dance the shapes of the runes). Uruz is the runic symbol of unstoppable primal force (anger, fear, hope, survival etc. in their purest form) . While she was younger she would caress and embrace her primal force (coping mechanisms/survivalmechanisms) but she now reached a point where she realized that these patterns don't work anymore and she had to face and battle herself. Trandenscending beyond who she used to be stepping into a new phase of her life. It was a symbolic battle/death but mostly a new birth. Born as a new person. The whole clip is about birth, the phases of life and then rebirth. Death is seen by us as the end but by the ancient germanic people, Death was the start, feeding and nourish the soil for new life in a never ending cycle. The moment she hit the ox, was the very moment she would be reborn.

@@arjantjeee I Think yours is one of the best reviews of Anoana I have seen! You have obviously studied (and absorbed) the video itself, but you are clearly knowledgeable about Norse culture and language (unlike most of us who comment here). Thanks so much from a noviate for sharing your insights!
P.S. I read somewhere that there is a legend that the runes were given to Odin as bird song notes (see SAYGE WITCH comment below from two months ago). Have you ever heard this? Is there any chance the runes (both old and new) are an alphabet, each with its own "meaning", but musical notes as well? Just a thought.

this music feels like my germanic ancestors are speaking to me and waking something very deep down in my soul that i never new i had or existed. it's sad that so many of our ancestoral past was more or less lost in the modern world and i envy you norse people for living it, or at least have it much more present in modern society. german nazis back in the days tried to integrate much of the old myths into their propaganda and i guess thats why our ancestoral history has still a bitter taste for many of us germans. but i guess bands like heilung help to heal even these things. i am happy that the past is not forgotten...

american first nations originate from siberia, but before they crossed the bering straight,
they probably met european/nordic first nations, in central asia, or eastern europe.
DNA tests showed that american natives originated from asia, but some of them
      had also european/caucasian ancestors : that's very interesting !
you can notice similarities in the outfits, rituals, instruments, beliefs, respect to nature, etc...
of all these first nations, and it appears now logic, since we found their common origins.

If you like this kind of music, the kind of music that fuels ur senses, you should really try out wardruna as well.
Einar Selvik is inzane in bringing emotions into his singing. This one is a really good choice:
Fmf 2015: International tv series gala: viking suite, trevor morris, Einar selvik
Einar and Maria got a song together as well, cant remember its name now. Its a swedish old fashion lullaby i believe. Really good song, but it aint got a music video, or well it has 1 taken from clips of the viking serie.
Its very normal for people to suggest wardruna and aurora - helvegen
Which is a Great song as well, i just prefer the other :)

Its been a while since I started to feel my mental health spiriling into something I want to scape from. There are good days, there are bad days, and last week held me in a dark place like never before. I was feeling it mentally, but also physically. My whole body was in pain, I had no apetite and I was exausted.
Yesterday, in the way back from my college, Anuana playing in my earphones on repeat, I slept peacefully for the first time in a month. No dreams, no intrusive toughts. I didnt even realise I had fell asleep and only woke up one hour later, close to home.
I know music alone isnt going to save me (Therapy has been really important) but there is so much power in this song. So much confort, like I didnt feel in months. Like someone was deeply caring for me. Like I can scape to somewhere else, to nature, even if only for 5 minutes.
This is the power of something made out of love, out of care. This is Heilung.

I am lucky enough to work in an outdoor environment and very often on my own and to have Heilung music going through my mind when I am in woodland early in the morning with nothing but the sound of nature around me makes me feel more connected to it....as Heilung say 'we are all brothers/sisters.

What happened is that Anoana ( meaning protector of the land, the people and of nature) finally came into her full power. This is something that she had been trying to do all her life as was shown in her interactions with the moose, the bird and finally the bison. In Game of Thrones they called this warging, a slightly different concept though.

The drums are very primal. If I had to guess, drums were probably the very first instrument ever created by our ancestors. 2 sticks and a hollow log, very simplistic, then as time went on, they added animal hide. Almost every ancient culture used drums in one way or the other. Also, the tempo (beats per minute) has a lot to do with it. If the bpm matches our heart rate, it can be very hypnotic. So I believe drums and their effects connect all of us at the primal level. I don't know if there is any science to back up my beliefs, it's just what I feel. And watching all these reaction videos to this sort of music and everyone having the same reaction, makes me believe it even more. I don't know if you have watched Wardruna with Aurora in the song Helvegen, but you should put it on your to do list. As well as the cover of Helvegen by Kalandra. I would watch the Wardrun version first as it has subtitles.

Great reaction, music and what happens really reflects in your face. Can I just add some points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse (seen in background several times). According to previking believs they had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, healing (of the bird) etc The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female directed than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden... ). Also healing = heilung in the german name of the band. ...and she is born with antlers which scares here moother. Heilung sing in a reconstructed version of the previking proto norse language....

A couple years ago, I was in a deep dark place. This was before I knew anything about Amplified History style of music. I randomly looked up for some kind of meditative music and Heilung was the first one to catch my eye, their song Norupo. I've been hooked since, and even made a Playlist on Spotify based all around this style of music from different bands in the same genre.
I recommend looking into Skald and Danheim. Skald has a beautiful lead singer that you may like, and Danheim is more about the rhythmic tantric hypnosis part of that genre. Of course, there so many more. It's a wonderful rabbit hole to jump down.

Also the timing of there work where the world is on the spiral down. Breathtaking !! I had just missed seeing them live in Dallas. Like you said there sounds transport you to a child like happyness.

The lullaby for Anoana is telling her what she is. Landawarjer Anoana means Land Warrior or Land Guardian Anoana. Her high kerning voice, and the setting means that Anoana, being born in a solar eclipse, guards sea, land and air. She calls them and blesses all life.

I think the reindeer-woman died at the end. The whole video is centered about life and death and its circle. The baby was born in a hut without a light (an eclipse). The mother of the baby even looked up into the ceiling and we saw the twisted branches, which seem to form a round shape. The child grew up as a child of nature, learned about the languages of the animals and the call of nature and was acting as a protector (helping the dead bird, overlooking the isles and so on). Then, when a new child was born, her role ended and her time as a protector came to an end. There was an eclipse during the ceremony, where all the people danced around the fire and thats the sign that she will die. And so she sought out and died against the musk-ox and a new horned child will take up her mantle.

I too have to catch myself around the point where they show the newborn swaddled. That's one point.
The other thing I wanted to point out was the ending, where you expressed some confusion about it. This is my opinion though.
Look at her when she was young. So in love and respect for nature, she was able to bring back a dead bird. Let's not forget to mention that a bison even allowed her to hug it. But, by the end, her adult self saw nature as something to be challenged. That too is a part that catches me off guard no matter how many times I watch it.

    Hej from Sweden! ❤️
I like to describe their style of music as 'Viking-trance' 😂 The deep drumbeats and harmonies are very soothing for the soul and mind. Likewise with other similar bands like 'Forndom', 'Wardruna' and 'Danheim'.
Depending on the mood I also like to describe 'Meshuggah' as 'Trance' 😅
    Anyways,
I like to watch 'Reactions' on music I've listen to 'all my life' such as Opeth, Tool and other metal-ish bands, and I must say you are one of my favorite channels. I like your sincere reflections and when it sometimes comes from personal life experience.
You seem openminded, empathic and down to earth and I believe you're a great role model for many but maby in particular for younger girls. 😊
    Take care! ❤️

I love that, every reaction video to this awesome song/video, even though the men's reactions do not alter when the baby belly is shown, every woman goes on instant high alert! 😍 And, beautiful reaction. When you talked about the "lullaby" being sung to the baby, it made me tear up in the remembering and renewed gratitude that I had that kind of music, stories, and exposure to Nature when I was a child.

Fun fact, there is only a single word in this song that can be roughly translated. "LadawarijaR" kind of means "protector of the land."
Also the reason you feel like Heilung is a form of self care makes sense. Heilung means "Healing"

I believe they will be touring the U.S. soon. If you live in the States and can make the time, absolutely go see them. We've seen two live performances and loved both of them. As for other bands, Warduna is awesome...."Helvegen" and "Lyfjaberg" are stunning pieces. Faun, Gealdyr, Grai, Skald and my current favorite Trobar de Morte ("Sacrifice" and "Summoning the Gods") are all good listens although each band has a different vibe to it. Welcome to a new world. Have fun.

Heilung always manages to be contemplative and mystical at the same time. Maybe the best word to describe their work is "primal." It doesn't need to be "understood" for the power to be felt.
Oddly, Pink Floyd can accomplish the same thing with a completely different musical style. Try the A side of Atom Heart Mother for an example. It has the added benefit of an ending which will leave you feeling triumphant.

I know it's been a while since you reacted to this, but in the Norse alphabet, the letter Uruz stands for auerochs and endurance at the same time because young warriors used to measure their strength and endurance on sparring with auerochses. so the landwarrior, land protector - the spirit of the land is enduring. that's my interpretation, at least. she was measuring her strength as someone who is nurturing, who is *life* as well, not just a warrior with a sword, for the land, for the people, for herself

If you like healing music, you might like Norwegian songwriter and singer Aurora. Maybe start with her collaboration with Wardruna (a Norwegian group similar - maybe not as ancient - to Heilung) on the song "Helvegen", then move on to Aurora's own songs like "Runaway" and "Running with the Wolves".

    Listen to Heilung's "Traust".
Her voice sings the vocals, and then with the end of each verse she's worshipped by an all male chorus chanting a reply. It's incredible.
