"What am I supposed to do if I want to talk about peace and understanding, but you only understand the language of the sword?" is one of the most epic and hard-hitting lyrics ever.
"I let the blade do the talking
So my tongue shall become iron and my words the mighty roar of war
Revealing my divine anger's arrow shall strike
All action for the good of all, I see my reflection in your eyes
But my new age has just begun, the sword is soft
In the fire of the furnace, it hungers to be hit
And wants to have a hundred sisters
In the coldest state of their existence
They may dance the maddest in the morass of the red rain
Beloved brother enemy, I sing my sword song for you
The lullaby of obliteration
So I can wake up with a smile
And bliss in my heart"
That whole sequence gives me chills every time.
The lullaby of obliteration is a really chilling line here
@@johnwilliams575 I love that line so much! It just HITS so hard!
Krig in Danish means war. The English, "rap" part was speaking to it, "What am I supposed to do If I want to talk about peace and understanding. But you only understand the language of the sword
What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall. But you only understand the language of the sword. What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace. But you only understand the language of the sword." The official video is brutal.
I cried when I watched the official video. It awaked in me some feelings I've never had and I felt connected with nature and times where life was simpler. I feel the same with Wardruna and Forndom.
I instantly followed Heilung.
Same in Norwegian
And "Galdr" is magic or a spell or enchantment. So the whole title means "battle magic". Fun fact, Krigsgaldra were usually performed by women on behalf of their warriors, often during the battle itself, even right on the the battlefield.
@@Nerdsammich Nice, I was just relating the war part to the video and how violent it is.
@@Nerdsammich we, the Same people (Sami, from Sapmí) still galdr when we jojk.
Heilung is an experimental folk music band made up of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany.[3] Their music is based on texts and runic inscriptions from Germanic peoples of the Bronze Age[citation needed], Iron Age, and Viking Age. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". Their music is usually about Germanic deities, The Jǫtnar, and valkyries. "Heilung" is a German noun meaning "healing" in English.[4]
Cultural pre recorded culture. These are not performances as much as rituals. Much of the language is reconstructed proto Germanic. Nordic languages are also Germania languages ....but this is take from texts and histories prior to that ..as some have said bronze age.
thank you for saying this...most fans think it is Nordic music but their music comes from both Nordic and German cultures!!
@@paladinminipedro707 well I don't really seperate germanics into nordic and german, just because some germanics went to the main land and some stayed in the northern regions that doesn't seperate their culture ... especially when u think of the time difference
@@mikewhite8009 HEILUNG does NOT identify as VIKING!
@@lajuanadooley1344 ..just saying lol
Being Scottish and Norse in my ancestry, we’ve always loved tribal/Celtic/Viking music. If you really listen it draws you in and speaks to your soul primally.
100%
Love groups that use old languages like Heilung and Eluveitie. Any tribal music with rhythm and chanting from old traditions feels very soulful to me, no matter where it's from. I do feel a special special connection to Celtic and Norse music though. While I love it all, it might just be in my genes/soul because this stuff hits different for me.
Except the Scots were never celts. That was bs invented by an academic in the 19th C. Before then there isn't one written record of the British or Irish ppl being celtic. The celts were an iberian ppl. That's how they know through generic analysis that the Amesbury archer wasn't British. You, like most others, have bought into yet another historical lie. They lie about recent history like C nineteen, and 911, which will go down in official history just as they want to frame it, but anyone with a brain knows that's all bogus..but IT WILL become official history, just as history will tell us Oswald killed jfk and bundy acted all alone etc. And as I'm Welsh and supposedly 'celtic' these aren't just my ancestors from centuries ago and across an ocean, they're my family and neighbours and they all also believe all this celtic nonsense, that's because they too haven't done the research and get all their information from mainstream sources.
Remember, that we all are brothers
All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind
We all descend from the one great being
That was always there
Before people lived and named it
Before the first seed sprouted !
I love this...is a good way to live
AHO
It’s a german/danish/norwegian band who are taking lyrics and symbols from the iron/Viking time into all their songs. Very inspiring 🙏
If Heilung does not connect to your soul, you are dead.
Recently discovered this myself. They apparently draw on bronze and iron age Northern European cultures
She does the look as a Viking volva pretty well
This dude posted this on Heilung's video of this song.

I play this music when I have guests over, it helps me weed out the undesirables..... 🤣🤣😂🤣😂
So They have multiple albums each dedicated to a specific type of person. There is a "male" album and a "female" album both with each type of energy. The newest album is geared towards their child, so I am excited to see what that will be. They have translations for most of their songs, which is a mix of proto-Germanic, Goth, old english, ancient roman, old norse. Some songs are directly taken from carvings and translated into a song, or from the viking sagas into the songs.
So just to clarify, what Heilung represents is Bronze Age pre-Viking time period. They use several languages. Some being dead languages like Elder Futhark which would be represented with “Runes”
ᚴᚱᛁᚷᛋᚷᚨᛚᛞᚱ(krigsgaldr)
All instruments and stage dress are handmade and traditional. The bones Maria is using are human fibula bones. (True)
Krigsgaldr means “War magic”
And some lyrics are adapted from the Eggja stone. A gravestone found in Sogndal, Norway by a farmer in 1917.
Two of the core members of the band Christopher Juul and Maria Franz are members of two other musical bands as well. Euzen and Songleikr. Euzen is modern while Songleikr is Scandinavian folk.
Kai Uwe Faust(w/horns throat singing) is a German born tattoo artist in Copenhagen, Denmark. This is the bands
motto….
“Remember, that we all are brothers
All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind
We all descend from the one great being
That was always there
Before people lived and named it
Before the first seed sprouted”
Thank you for presenting this on your channel!
Vikings are about 800 years ago, this is more proto norse around 2 thousand years old and takes the earliest carvings and Norse sagas as inspiration for the lyrics, this band formed from a historical re-enactment group and everything they use is genuine, including the human bones Maria plays, love from UK where we have danes, also old Norse who integrated into UK culture many years ago :) eg Wednesday = wodens day = odin's day
I would say pro-Germanic since the Norse were considered a Germanic tribe like the Swedes, Geats, Jutes, Chursi, Chati, Saxons, Anglos, etc..
@@lappesjl1 yes definitions have become more detailed over time for example Celts, Irish ran the vikings out of Dublin, my family was involved in that with king Obrien, yes, pre Germanic is a much more descriptive term. I look forward to what designations are assigned to what tribes in the future.
Love how focused Asia is during this. I remember when I first heard this and wardruna that was my same reaction and I listen mainly to hiphop
Awesome. Old school Norwegian Black/Folk Metal….awesome presence for all involved…..Maria Franz’s vocals are so ethereal…..awesome stuff y’all 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
It is very cool - buts it’s not Norwegian Black Metal. That’s completely different.
@@zmbiaccountant2812 I’m just saying it’s a mixture of a few different genres, especially the whole sinister, creepy vibe of black metal….and of course there’s plenty of indigenous tribal music involved there. Very much of a melting pot of styles & vibes 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
not bad for the first gig they ever played. its an experience live, I tranced out, felt like coming home after a long journey
I had no idea you had discovered Heilung yet! Maria Franz is the flawless/stunning female with the bone taps and sweet vocals. I call her our secret weapon,as she is truly a Norwegian Powerhouse, but a total sweetheart and soo modest, down to earth. Her husband Christopher Juul is the gentleman with the ponytail 7:49 He is the founder of this band and hes Danish.
Have you by chance seen In Maidjan yet by Heilung? Since i know Asia is into singing, she should really listen to that performance,it has mindblown even vocal coaches and left reactors speechless. She shows abit of her range in In Maidjan, compared to Krigsgaldr where she only sounds "sweet". Krigsgaldr means "War Magic" btw,and you are correct. Heilung performs traditional tribal Viking history music, and theyr clothes and instruments etc are all identical to actual findings from that era.
Heilung means Healing! I love the sound, so good. Almost rapping.
This is the most enjoyable and interesting music I've listened to in quite a well... I love folk music especially Irish, but this is on a level I personnally haven't really heard before.
When its difficult to catagorize or describe what you just saw, thats when theyre on to something good.
Dem be HUMAN BONES.
The full show is amazing to watch. If y'all ever get a chance to check it out I highly recommend it
Heilung does both Nordic and old Germania folk music...kinda tribal honestly. Going to see them in September
Pagan folk music taken from ancient runes chills a person to the bone
Krigsgaldir = The screaming for war like they said in the talking bit "You understand only the language of the sword"
It might sonds crazy, but the song is about trying to live your life is peace.
I am exceedingly proud of you two for taking a listen to this fantastic experimental folk band. Their music is like a shaman's journey into a ancient tribal past. They are NOT demonic. They are grasping at the spirit of the ancient way of showing reverence to the old ways. Thank you for checking it out!
Heilung - Asja
Is probably my favorite song by them. The best of the drums sounds so crisp, with the inhaling of the nostrils, is really really intoxicating.
They will be in concert in the US.
You should check out the music video they made for it. It's art is based off of some cave paintings they found.
After listening to Heliung for the first time, if you haven't felt something stir, deep inside of you and the long forgotten past, you are probably an android....
drums from the skin of the fallen
This is not a call for war, but a cry for the need for world peace .
Maria Franz sings that there is enough death and blood shed and too much victims.
Heilung preaches that we need to start to listen to each other
They btw just released a new track called "Anoana" :)
Pretty wild sounds!
Thank you so much for listening with an open mind. So much diconnection from the Earth, from our Ancestors, from each other. These were our cultures before we were forced to convert to the Catholic Church which caused even the Vikings to be captured(enslaved), raped, burned alive, bled out, etc. The blood of all our ancestors cries and wails for justice however, we must live in peace so that the past horrors and atrocities never happen again. Oh yeah. Love this song, loved your reactions
The music is beautiful. Their newer performances (songs,) they admitted they also don't know the meaning of the words.
"Heilung" means "healing" in german, theres a nice interview with Kai Uwe Faust about this topic.
Music from the bones of my people. ᛏ Heathen Pride of the Futhark/Vandal/Norman Peoples.
C est trop beau cette façon de chanter et le son derrière ! J adore!
Hello I got Norwegian ancestry... basically Norway is Scandinavia... Norway is the new name of that area lol ancient times were different geologically
The bones and antlers are all real.... The female singer is playing the two bones in a human forearm..... The instruments are almost exclusively re-creations of ancient instruments using real skin, antlers etc. Their dedication to education (learning ancient languages and singing/instruments) and history is incredible... Being mostly German and Scandinavian in descent, listening to their music and shows is as close to a spiritual experience as I seem able to get.
This was written in Old Norse, based on a transcription of runes carved into the Eggja Stone, which was essentially a burial stone dating to the mid-7th century in Norway. Although it's nice to hear an English version, I prefer the original :) The English chant is quoted below. Worth reading, in the context of the current invasion of the Ukraine, and in the broader context of all wars of cultural assimilation or destruction:
"What am I supposed to do
If I want to talk about peace and understanding
But you only understand the language of the sword?
What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall
But you only understand the language of the sword?
What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace
But you only understand the language of the sword?
I let the blade do the talking...
So my tongue shall become iron,
And my words the mighty roar of war
Revealing, my divine anger´s arrow shall strike
All action for the good of all
I see my reflection in your eyes
But my new age has just begun
The sword is soft
In the fire of the furnace
It hungers to be hit
And wants to have a hundred sisters
In the coldest state of their existence
They may dance the maddest
In the morass of the red rain
Beloved brother enemy
I sing my sword song for you
The lullaby of obliteration
So I can wake up with a smile
And bliss in my heart
And bliss in my heart
And bliss in my heart
Coexistence, Conflict, combat
Devastation, regeneration, transformation
That is the best I can do for you
I see a grey gloom on the horizon
That promises a powerful sun to rise
To melt away all moons
It will make the old fires of purification
Look like dying embers
Look like dying embers
Look like dying embers"
They are indeed using real bones, horns from animals, and hyde based drums.
When it comes to Viking type music I listen to the songs title " My Mother Told Me" and "Vahalla Calling Me"and "Ragnarök". I listen to Peyton Parrish who sings them
We share the earth
We share the same sky
We share our food
We share our motives
We share the Gods that look down on us
We shate the love
We shateto strive
We share to survive
Skål 🍻❤️
Just a little fun fact. The bones Maria is using as percussion throughout are in fact human. A human femur i believe.
This is their most simple song, they are masters of crafting sound into ways not thought possible.
I recommend starting with their soft stuff then working your way up to the more intense. A good place to start would be the studio version of “Traust.” Or perhaps their newest song.
Then once you’re used to them a bit, you MUST listen to their live performance of “Hamrer Hipye” during the LIFA performance! It is a spiritual experience that if fully absorbed may awaken a part of your soul long left dormant and forgotten.
Heilung and Wardruna, and the other groups like Tenhi, Forndom, Osi and the Jupiter, Sowulo, Danheim and more are revolutionizing music while at the same time reconnecting millions of us to our roots. Where man lived not above nature but within. Where death was a threat everyday, so people stuck together for survival. There was little to waste, everything was used, everything was cherished.
This pagan music genre is beyond being a hidden gem. To me it is possibly the only way back from this soulless corporate hellscape the world has become.
This is the music of my culture, Norse Paganism.
its like shamans music compo with nature..
If you go Forest and but play this and get silence you see it😁👍🏻
Birds come lissen this a lot😂.
I'd like to recommend 'The Who Band', from Mongolia. I like their performance of ' Wolf Totem '. You can get a captioned version, which I would recommend.
The harsh singing is called throat singing.
I don't think I've ever seen you guys as drawn in as you were during this video! Quite captivating isn't it?
If you enjoy the sound of this music check out these two... wardruna, danheim. You won't be disappointed!
It's more like "Pagan" music. The dress the use of handmade instruments, etc. Just my opinion.
Besides ancient Germanic roots they incorporate shamanistic influences from northern Asia/Siberia.
Everything about them suggests to me something much earlier, shamanic, rather than early Medieval.
@@chrisreed5463 Definitely pre Medieval....more like hunter gatherer era to Nordic Bronze Age between 1,700 BC and 500 BC
Heilung means healing, the style is not viking but nordic shamanism, Krigsgaldur means war song.
What totally blows me away is how people here in America seem to think that white people have no past...no culture...or can't be of a tribal nature. I beg to big time differ....what you see right now is only just a mere taste of the many different cultures and tribal ways of European cultures. You need to go see the cave paintings. Did you know there is actually an official INDIGENOUS group in Denmark....totally unrelated to any Norse group...they are called The Sa ami. An tribal INDIGENOUS Group who have even lived in housing similar to teepees....they too have a shamanic culture....they are the Reindeer people. Mistakenly called " Laplanders". And this group of people really do look like the classical composite of angels....yes they are very beautiful. White hair and violet blue eyes....and yes they too have suffered discrimination from all the Norse peoples Government...similar to what native Americans.
4 years ago Heilung changed my life🤘
Your faces while watching this video..... 😟 My face watching you watch this video...🤣
The language they use is Germanic, Ancient German. Scandinavian/Viking, German/Barbarian Tribe Cultures vastly settled to the north.
The guys who kicked the Romans ass.
Jotun. "Singing in Giant" I think it's the translation. It's not demonic sounding to me, even though most Christian folk music would consider the vocalization to sound demonic.
Viking yes very old music waken.
Check out throat singing and subharmonics.
Other tribal bands to check out are OTYKEN, they mix Siberian tribal with a modern style. Or try UN, they play Mongolian traditional with a modern style. Both of these bands have a kool sound.
Its a form of ceremony or ritual rather than a song.
Heilung is very authentic. Everything was made by them.

NICE YOU FOUND VIGKING MUSIC
Yes and the Pagans wanted peace but the Christians didn't . '' Who Brought, who brought the hoard to the Northernmost lands.''
Love it. Check out Wardruna they are pretty good too. :)
Re "demonic" it would be more correct to say "demonized". Throat singing, polyphonics & gutturals was associated with Gaul/Celt/Druid music which was closer to the Germanic/Nordic style here than it was to Roman or Greek music. So it was defined as barbaric, pagan, evil...
But of course it is not, it is expression of emotions suppressed or forbidden by the controlling 4th to 19th century Christian sects of Europe. Especially feminine expressions other than religious.
Maria Franz is here acting as a bridge to the spirit world like any shaman in ancient times, a role not restricted to one gender.
African and native American music was similarly suppressed and "demonized" in the West, though not in North Asia where guttural sounds and throat singing has remained central to classical music for...well...at least 20,000 years.
A little Viking themed or Norse themed music…lol
Oh my god, or Thor..Heilung..it is tribal..
Heil Heilung! ⚡⚡
Tap into their ancestors????yes...that is EXACTLY what they are doing....
Fyi krigsgaldr means warchant
All bones ate real including the hunman and animal bones
Sorry typos
Hey! You're back like you never left! :0
im not big on the demonic throat chanting. It hit kinda nice in the middle part after the short silence with all the elements hitting at once. But generally, it's kinda freak-like.
I love the way that language sounds (female singing). I'm just not sure why they would inject the sounds of death metal into it.
Call it artistic sure, but not sure how that jives with the whole "we are being authentic to our ancestors" aspect...
Anyway, the tribal bit was perfection; cathartic vocals of another world. All tribal music has that way of speaking deep down somewhere in us. Not sure what that means exactly.
i know i shouldnt, but here goes. It is very hard to take a person serious when they have painted eyebrows
This song made me cry and I have no idea why. Absolutely love this group
It is about war..that is why. I cried too the first time I heard it. The original video gave me goosebumps
🦉
All bones are real including the human and animal bones
Throat singing is not demonic. In northern arctic circles has historically does throat singing within the Inuit tribes also. 😄
It's not difficult to find lyrics on Google 🤷
Those ARE real human bones she is playing on.
This song is basically a Devil on one shoulder and an Angel on the other.
It's a war chant!
Det ved jeg. Det er hvem vi er.
This is just my personal oversimplification so take it with a grain of salt, think of the singing part like a prayer for peace or a blessing of home. The spoken part was two waring clans meeting and saying if we fight you'll die to each party respectively. While simultaneously denouncing the violence. Kinda sorta 😁

This concert is an entire ritual that the crowd gets involved in. They describe their music as "amplified history" If you get a chance watch the entire show.

nordic culture generally (to answer BJ's question), but I'll defer to the experts ;)
You are correct.... however in my musical circles bands of this ilk from many different countries land under the general umbrella of "Pagan" music. But that might be due to my country of origin.
You guys should check out their new song Anoana. It’s awesome
the way Maria turns and looks into the camera feels like she inspects your soul, smiles slightly, finds you wanting.
Maria doesn’t judge your soul so harshly, she looks to the camera and smiles in acknowledgment and a quiet “welcome”
Seems like I'm not the only one who caught that shot. Definitely a "welcome to our ritual" look.
It’s the look my wife gives me when I ask if I can purchase another motorcycle 😬
It says “Yes, I AM badass.”
