The reason we caution against yaw heading gain is actually not due to overtuning risk. That could happen with any of the axis. The main reason is if you only bank and yank (roll+pitch) to turn, you're never resetting heading on the yaw axis. This ends up leading to yaw heading accumulating and you might end up with it fighting your inputs without knowing why. This isn't an issue for Roll and Pitch since you pretty much always have to use those to fly the plane.
That's a good point too, thanks for bringing that up! Jon was thinking mostly about how some jets (specifically twin tail fighters) tend to snap roll with too much rudder input and a heading hold while banking/yanking would definitely lead to that. Appreciate you clearing it up!
Don't dismiss 'heading hold'! I find it is brilliant if you have an aircraft - probably tail-dragger or tricycle with short wheelbase - which is difficult to hold straight during take-off. I will set anything between 25 - 50% Yaw. Depends on the size of the rudder and a little bit of taxi trialing is needed to stop over-compensation. Once sorted it will hold aircraft as straight as a die during take-off run. Once airborne, as long as you use rudder you would not know it was operating, but I normally switch it off and next use it to taxi back from far end of runway! I have it setup as my 3rd mode - SAFE, AS3X+ and Heading. This has saved me on several occasions when I was beginning to make a fool of myself with ground loops etc.... on take-off. I now use it always, on certain aircraft. 😁
Great video Jon! I want to play with AS3X+ more, and can't wait to have the opportunity. This video is another reason why so many people really enjoy your content. Great work!
This is freakn awesome. So many videos and people say “just change gains to fixed”. Honestly I think you could do a whole video JUST about the basic setup and gains based on flight mode. This vid was great but I think it went a tad into the weeds for those that don’t even understand why gains are needed.
Thanks for the useful feedback! This is the first in a set of instructional videos on AS3X+. We'll definitely dive deeper into gains and why they're useful in the future.
This is fantastic, Jon. 35 years ago I stepped away from the hobby for family reasons. I was taught old school. 5 years ago I re-entered the hobby with all this wonderful new technology. I fully embraced the new technology and find it one of the most enjoyable parts of the hobby. Thanks for your easy to follow guide to AS3X +.
WOW Awesome video guys! I just programmed my first as3x + using your guide. (with many repeats, I'm slow LOL!) This video was super helpful. It explained the process in detail that made me understand how it works all together. Spektrum should have put out a video like this when they released it and owe you guys a big thank you!! I did go to use Spektrum wiki which also offered insight but after your video it made sense. Thanks again. Now i need to get to this discord you mention for further assistance. I already sent out your link to this video to several of my hobby friends.
This is the absolute BEST explanation and setup video I've seen. I didn't really understand "stick priority" and a couple other thing's until now. Put's Spektrum to shame. Though, I will need to watch it several more times to fully assimilate, and apply. Many Thanks!!!!
Great video! Now I know why AS3X+ needs 20 channels. It just didn't make sense that I have a 14 channel radio, a 6 channel receiver, but now AS3X is 20 channels.
Very interesting, I am reprogramming all my stuf to as3x+ and boy it works great. Now with this video I am going to go even further with playing with gains. Thx man!.
Jon, your channel has got to be the most informative, no nonsense (well maybe a little nonsense), comprehensive channels on YT. You and Tail Heavy are my absolute favorite RC channels, and it's a coin toss for which is my favorite. Thank you for the hard work and dedication day after day. Your video content has helped me tremendously ever since I found your channel about 2 years ago. I'm not meaning to sound like a kiss-ass, but thanks for everything you do. I know it takes considerable time and effort!
Then we wouldn't have the independence needed to create content the way we'd want to. Don't get us wrong, Horizon is awesome, but the overwhelming majority of our channel income is derived from YT advertisements and guys like you donating to the cause!
Fantastic Video Jon! Going to share this video to the spektrum people at my club to assist them on updating to as3x+. Thanks you and keep up the amazing content!
Thanks Jon for posting this one 👍🏾.now I can just share the link and send folks down the rabbit hole 😂. This is hands down the best all around tutorial of AS3x and its features I’ve seen yet! Trying to explain this stuff at the field can be exhausting. You’ve bundled it quite well. Thanks for always sharing this stuff with the world!
Talk about exhausting - this vid's script started two weeks ago and took about 30 hours this week to finish up. But y'all need to hear how these things work. It was well overdue. Happy to help!
You’re using TH-cam and not a VHS tape. Might as well move forward with the hobby. Doesn’t mean you have to change or get rid of any of your planes. Just enjoy what we have now and how much things have improved.
Excellent, comprehensive tutorial, Jon. Thanks! I fly in SAFE a lot. I just blow up the bank angles and enjoy the hell out of flying around the park near home- and bringing my planes home in one piece afterwards 😊 One thing I've learned is that SAFE gains are NOT the same thing as AS3X(+) gains. You REALLY don't want those adjustable. SAFE gains dictate how much throw the surfaces will move while in SAFE. And it's REALLY touchy on an NX8 R-knb. Barely saved my Maule after that little experiment. If a plane doesn't allow for enough elevator movement while in SAFE, I just bump up the pitch SAFE gains until the elevator deflects the same, in or out of SAFE. But, you really don't want SAFE gains adjustable. I've upgraded most of my receivers to 3x+. The plane I'm seeing the most improvement on is the Eflite p47 1.2m. I used to constantly tinker with AS3X gains, high speed passes would shake the roll axis. But the rotor from trees surrounding the landing strip would pummel her if I turned the gains down. With just a few flights in 3x+ I've dialed in the correct amount of stability in tree rotor I need to land. While keeping her on a laser at high speeds. I love that I've got that added challenge ahead of me- learning to fly without auto leveling to assist. It keeps my relationship with this hobby "spicy" 😊 Thanks again for the deep dive in 3x+, Jon 👍
Yup - that's why the subject of SAFE gains wasn't covered. There's no real point to adjusting them for the average user. + as a system is so much better, it's hard to believe the same receivers are being flown. What used to fly worse now flies so much better, regardless of the wind.
I really love your channel, Jon! Incredibly valuable info here and so well explained even though the matter is a pretty complex one. Still, this vid left me kind of dizzy this time and I ended up having a knot in my brain. 😂 Indeed, an awful lot of info in a rather short period, just like you said. Glad that I can watch it several times 😅. Thank you so much for your amazing work, highly appreciated!
Yeah, indeed. The forward flip in 2:23 stopped my breath for a moment and I was wondering if I also „need“ an EC 1500 now all of a sudden … 😂. Jon is definitely a bad influence on your wallet 😋
Thank you for this video!!!!! Been wanting to put safe on my extreme flight plane (just for insurance) for a while. Gonna have to watch this a few times to fully understand these vocab words tho lol
i thought we didnt used gyros here😂😂😂😂 for real great video it realy smooths out a good fly on any day thqts how i fly on as3x, i use frsky though there systems is bananas, barrel rolls on safe dont ask me how😂😂😂😂
Nice! I generally don't use AS3X unless it''s preprogrammed and then I don't mess with it but it's because I don't know how. Now I've got a good base point to start playing with things.
As a relative beginner with an NX8 this video swamped me and now I'm feeling more lost than ever. I was able to update my NX8 and 2 of my 3 receivers (for some reason the 631 in my EFlite T28 1.2 couldn't be recognized by the Spektrum programmer). Looks like I'm sticking with stock settings until I get my engineering degree LOL.
well done video, lots to digest, but looking forwards to learning ascx+ for my 3d planes. Been using the cortex for 8 years, but it looks like this finally has some of the adjustments I've been hoping for
Throttle Based Gains. I go along with your suggestion Jon, for some aircraft, but I think there is a conflict if you have an aircraft and want to perform a high AoA flypast, when she will require a lot of power at low speed, which is when you want the max gain available. I have my gains on the left slider and adjust them for different flight scenarios. Perhaps I'm missing something and I am certainly not meaning to sound critical. You have done a fantastic job in presenting something which, I for one, had not yet got my head around and was anxious to understand.
Great video!!! I'm in the process of setting up my F22 but have the gyro rates switching between lower gains for higher speeds and higher gains for lower speeds using Elevons. Also a gyro off position. Shouldn't this work better for high alpha playing around as well as landings? It seems like throttle based gains would be less stable than that approach. I'm relatively new to using gyros so may be overlooking the obvious. 😅
I wish I watched this BEFORE I spent 84 hours trying to configure my SU57 twin 40mm! I'm on spektrum now after 2 years of throwing money at Fertoobuh. If you know, you know. I just wanted to get away from multiple devices in the plane. I'm a believer.
Brother, you are the man for this! I've learned so much from watching your vids. I've been using throttle based gains for good while now since you showed it in one of your vids a while back and its an absolute game changer! I honestly don't know what it is about people who can't see past their nose about gyros and how to use them to your advantage, setting them up as "mini flight computers" and such. Thanks again, and keep doing what you do to help keep advancing this great hobby of ours!! 🫡🫡👏👏
I switch to as3x+ last week and i love it !!! I only had to lower my gains .. is that only me or did you had the same?! Didnt mess with the nosewheel and heading stuff .. just flying my fms sukhoi and freewing mig-29 like there is no tomorrow!!😂
@@TwoBrosRCthanks for your quick reply! Gonna try the throttle based gains (on throttle curve) thanks for the great info and sharing ofcourse !! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Hi Jon, Good video but a bit like trying to eat an elephant all in one go! Might I suggest you follow up with short videos that cover just one topic at a time. The viewer can set to repeat and work through their own setup to the video - if you miss something the first time it will quickly come around again. You don't cover nose wheel gyro settings so how about doing that in this format. Just remember there are a few of us there that are not super fast computer wizards. Thanks for your efforts thus far.
Unfortunately that won't work well with our schedule of video releases, considering we post once per week. That would take up at least a month's worth of scheduled uploads, and we have companies and people waiting for us to post aircraft. Don't be afraid to re-play segments or ask questions on Discord!
I have a sig tclips im tempted to setup gains to my throttle. As3x+ works great on it. Problem I now have is the plane will push 100mph full blast. Full span flaperons and it lands at a crawl. It does get bounced around more for sure.
The AS3X+ is a game changer over the AS3X. I tend to prefer using a hobby eagle a3s4 to assist with additional gyro needs but this I am going to need to try out.
Awesomeness as usual. I’ll hop to discord as well for further info regarding previous FW F16 TBR setup and updating Reciever and how it may require additional changes in radio? Or is it as simple as update, re configure in forward programming and done? I’ma still learning and hopefully I won’t get spun. Thanks again for the content maestro.
The FW F-16 will be using your own open-stock receiver, so all you need to do is update it and follow the initial setup info in the vid - then program in throttle-based gains if you want to see what bliss is like in model jets lol Hop on Discord for follow-up comments!
Hi John, I am sure this has been asked before but what servos do you use as replacements for 17g and 23g FW servos? I know the 9g ones but I could not find any for the bigger sizes.
Great video I’ve learnt so much, I do have an issue that I can’t find heading in the giro setting menu, it appears to be missing, maybe I’m missing something.
Hi Jon… excellent instructional video. Thank you. Does the 8 channel AS3X+ receiver have multiple gyros, or is it only the 10 channel receiver that has this feature?
Only the AR10360T has multiple gyros. You CAN trick the receiver into kinda-sorta acting like it has multiple gyros but it's a crappy workaround that's nowhere near as precise as having the multi-gyro setup with independent gains/channels/etc.
Thanks for putting this up. Super helpful. Does relearn servo settings work on a 637? I’m trying to get the stabilisation to work on full span ailerons on my Super Timber (after your video I got it as soon as I could in the uk) but it isn’t working as I anticipated from this video. Wondering if it’s a limit of the 637? PS your explanation of Priority is brilliant.
Relearn Servo Settings is part of the coding of Forward Programming, so it works on any receiver that's got a gyro in it and is modern - e.g. AR630, 631, 637T(A), 8360T, 10360T, etc. Definitely hop on Discord via bit.ly/TBRCDiscord and show a video of what you're doing in #tech-and-setup
@@TwoBrosRC thanks. On watching the video for the 5th time it clicked. I was going to relearn servo when I should have gone to the aux wizard. It was all there when I had been through and found how not to do it, I understood the error of my ways. Thanks for everything you put up. Liking the look of the ec1500. I do like a cargo plane doing 3D. Horizon and others keep the planes heading your way. You’re my preferred review of planes. Now Horizon, where’s the 90mm viper with thrust vectoring?
Is a mere mortal suppose to be able to do this? You fail to recommend take an old beater plane to practice on before putting it in your gasser. Going to buy the AR10360T and for a satellite RX what would you recommend? Another good video and thanks for the encouragement.
Happy to help! If you're able to buy from our links in the description, it's a huge help to keep this channel running well. Satellite receivers aren't always necessary, but for something big or complex we usually recommend this one and fly it on a few of our own aircraft: alnk.to/9moPphJ
I’m looking at the nose wheel gyro Settings and will I get less back and forth movement as I’m in my takeoff roll and go straight as possible if I lowered the window number which defaults to 50%?
Hi Jonathan. Got a question regarding your Avanti with the thrust vectoring set up. What are your thoughts about making the elevators work with the ailerons to create more of a role rate very similar to your scorpion video that you made. I only ask for possibly helping with even more stability when doing slower, thrust vectoring maneuvers
You could do that, but it wouldn't do much else beyond making the jet roll faster. The moment arm of the elevators used as ailerons is relatively small, especially at low airspeeds.
Thanks for your time making these videos. Much appreciated. I have an omp bighorn 49. I have installed a AR8360T+ and and avian smart esc. I have setup all the mixes from your video to a T utilizing full span ailerons, flaps and so on. I read somewhere that with mixes the AS3X+ and safe will be confused and will not work. Is this the case? Or can I still use it? I have been flying for many years now. I have an NX8 also and want to learn to fly 3D with some AS3X and or safe assistance if possible. I also have the Draco 2M and Cessna 150T. I am starting to spent a considerable amount of money on birds and don’t want to see it go to waste. Thanks for your well appreciated time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dean. From Canada.
Definitely isn't the case. Our Bighorn uses tons of mixes and has no issues with the gyro systems in the receiver. Hop on Discord for more help: discord.gg/twobrosrc
Hi Brothers!!I wanted to ask for clarification: If I update the transmitter firmware, (NX8) do I lose the models that are stored? Another question: what happens for the UMX series models? To make as3x + effective do I have to delete them and install them again? Thanks for your kind reply.
Hi thanks for your clear explaination. I was wondering if you setup the nosewheel and you assighn your rudder channel with the nosewheel with y Cable. Is that possible.? Ifly always with spectrum gyro and now Just starting with as3x plus. Thans for video’s . Gerard
@ thanks. 👍🏻🙋🏻♂️The question came that i have a spitfire with a 6 channel as3x/safe receiver en was wondering of i could use this to the rudder channel with the tail wheel . The spit likes to break right.
I fly the E-flight Habu SS 50mm EDF. This plane does not have flaps. Should I setup the Throttle and gain mix as you explained in your video? Enjoyed the video. Thanks
Nah, definitely not needed on a small beginner's jet like that. It *might* help but the jet isn't capable of flying fast enough to really benefit from it.
Hi Jon. Can you help with nosewheel gyro set up. It is a bit confusing as it is attached to the rudder and i see something about it needing different channel. I think we all will benefit from a video from you on this. Will appreciate it.
You can't use the nosewheel gyro if your rudder is physically wired into the same channel as the nosewheel. You need to separate the channels, which means you need a receiver that's generally 8 channels for anything that has retracts and flaps. Join Discord via discord.gg/twobrosrc - there's two written setup guides that cover how this is done.
Omg I just bought the spektrum ix14 and gonna set it up with my new fms viper 90mm. But this is so confusing and I’m little bit worried I’m gonna fail with the as3x so the plane go down 😬 do you have the values for the viper 90? I can try from the beginning? I’ve only used the reflex before. This seam so much better when you get it dialed in but it looks scary 🙈😇
my Zohd dart can't fly without having some sort of stability augmentation on board. just installed an ar630 and setup using my dx6e and that was a pain. the scroll wheel button on a 5 year old radio is really not fun
Any chance you will provide specific settings for Viper 90mm (AS3X+)? I’d like to know the settings you recommend in Text Gen section. I’ve watched this video multiple times and have a general understanding but would like to know your specific recommendations.
I am setting up a single prop fighter trainer and trying to figure out which receiver to buy for use with my NX8 transmitter. Do the concepts in this video apply to my situation?
@@TwoBrosRC this may be the most informative RC video of all time honestly! There’s great information in here whether you go PLUS or NOT. But yes, perfect walk through, I think you covered all the bases well. I for one love the technical aspect of our hobby, I enjoy a good technical challenge, but I can see the flip side as well, where it could be frustrating if you don’t possess certain technical skills already. That being said, why not learn! Great vid as always Jon. Thanks!
Thanks Jon, if I'm using all 6 channels and both auxiliary channels since one is being used for reverse Thust. How do you get adjustable gyro gains ? Will the (+) update give me more Aux channels?? ?
Adjustable gains should be covered in the initial setup section and in the throttle-based gains section. Updating your radio (assuming it's a NX(6/8/10) or IX14) will get you at least 14 channels, with most radios being upgraded to 20 channels.
Sorry for the confusion. I added 10 minutes ago a workflow where i favorite to use the spoken flightmodes (also) for the F-Mode Settings for the FM Channel. To not distribute "critical false Information" i deleted my comment, as you commented that those are not corresponding - and primary for "flying" Flight-Modes. May its better to discuss in discord, but i took a short look (after now self confused) into the nx8+ manual pdf, and there is on page 15 : "For example, if your airplane has flaps, retracts, and SAFE: On a single switch you may configure one flight mode for takeoff which adds a small amount of flaps with the gear down and SAFE activated in one switch position, a second flight mode for normal flight with flaps and gear up and SAFE off on a second switch position, and a third flight mode for landing with flaps fully deployed, retracts down and SAFE activated on a third switch position. By putting all of these features on one flight mode switch, you don’t have to work separate flaps, gear and SAFE switches during the flight." In my understanding - its not complete wrong to assign the F-Mode "Switch" as the FM-Channel for the forward programmed / Flight Modes. If iam complete wrong, it would great to get a feedback. Thank you for your great AS3X+ summary.
@@TwoBrosRC It's confusing, isn't it? Hope they re-label the receiver-side "Gyro Modes" instead of "Flight Mode." Or maybe "Gyro Gain", and limit it to such. Spektrum is upping their game, they'll get this right I believe.
The initial Gain Channel Select looks different from the Gain Channel Select when you return to it if you want to make a change. No one's been able to explain that yet. Do you have any insight into this?
We'd need to see a photo or a short video to understand what you're getting at here, but neither can be posted to YT comment sections - hence why we usually ask people to join Discord via bit.ly/TBRCDiscord
@@TwoBrosRC Sorry, wrong spot, I meant 14:11 where you say "gain channel select". It seems that the initial setup gain channel select and returning to gain channel select have a different look. Right at 4:53 it says gain channel select, then on 14:11 you said gain channel select again. In my situation I just reset my receiver and started over to get that 4:53 screen.
Im getting back to rc planes since like 2013, bearly have like 2 months now. Might be more crrazy lol i fly zero gyro & full throw 😂 . Started with cheap mazon p51 with gyro, then got an UMX otter, then 2 50mm f16 & f18, now i have 2 mig29 twin 80mm jets. Zero gyro on all of them, lost 1 mig because of gyro. Plane felt way more heavier on air & felt like it was fighting my controls.
@@TwoBrosRC for sure, but i don't have one :D so far the horizon bnf planes and helis that i bought work fine with the radio out of the box though, so it shouldn't be an issue in the future, i hope :)
O.K. This is pretty good information for when you are flying airplanes and / or jets, However, is it possible for you to discuss all the aspects of forward programming setup as they would pertain to helicopters. On some models such as the 330s and/or 360 Smart some features of the FC6250HX Flight Controller are not accessible. Can you discuss why. Purchasing the FC6250HX has these same features available to the pilot. So, can you go through the setup procedure for a factory FC6250HX when using it for either a Horizon Hobby or other Manufacturer's R.C. Helicopter. It's hard to learn about the features and benefits of an R.C. Aircraft when certain features of the flight controller have been made not accessible to the pilot from the factory. Purchasing a new FC6250HX to replace a good working FC6250HX for the only reason of having total access to the FC6250HX Flight Controller does not seem reasonable to me unless it can be applied to another aircraft.
Just a question. Upgrading to AS3X plus my Turbo Timber Evo does it mean that since i will factory reset it it will unlock the 637TA receiver in order to increase the surface throws too? Thx
Followed all your instructions and setup a Motion RC Vulcan Jet. It crashed on the maiden flight with forward programming based on your instructions. Is there anyway to look at the export file from the receiver and figure out what may have been configured that cuased the crash? It was a straight vertical drop and Safe was on when that happened.
@@turboed00SI I don't think so cause I checked the gyro directions before flight and the plane went around the field twice before this happened. I think if the receiver orientation was incorrect, it would have crashed immediately. I will double check the receiver.
@TheSlyfly Hmm. Thats a strange one. Besides just an all out failure of the receiver. It could have been a number of things. Maybe it lost connection and fail safed? Are you sure the receiver was secured and did not come loose somehow?
We suggest double-checking the orientation and surface directions before flying again. It's unlikely to be anything with the receiver, but if it is, you can have it mailed to Horizon for inspection and possible warranty replacement. This sort of thing happens most frequently when the servo settings, wing/tail type, or orientation in the receiver aren't set properly.
@@turboed00SI Thanks for your reply. The receiver was definitely not loose because it came off the plane with taped to the board which it was on with two-sided tape and additional tape around it. I tested the receiver, and it works fine.
Do you have any information on setting up two spektrum AS3X receivers? Would like to have at least 12-20 usable channels by combining two spektrum receivers.
@@TwoBrosRC I was under the impression the two bound receivers worked independently and added channels per the second receiver. I rigged up a power source and bound two receivers with servos to see the controls and get a better understanding of you answer. Thank you for responding and providing clarification.
I'm kidding, but for now I need something not too complicated, and while everything works perfectly (a good recommendation for a spectrum), I don't want to put extra money into the hobby.
Horizon was kind enough to send us a NX8+ so we can make some content on how to create our style of gyro setup/aircraft setup using NX radios. But that'll be a while from now - Jon is kinda burnt out from a 30 hour job on this video.
@@TwoBrosRCI think, my next radio will be a nx8, but thanks to this video at least I understood the gains etc, before that I was using presets from HH trying to choose them to more or less fit my plane (size, type etc.) Greetings!
@@TwoBrosRC In conclusion, I am absolutely a fan of Gyro and new technology, this video is a great instructional video and will definitely use these tricks in the future!
I've got an E-filte Viper 90, a few years old. It has an AR637TA. I updated my Tx to 4.0.0A. I updated the Rx to 3.01.03. I then loaded the AS3X+ Rx Preset for the Viper 90 into the Rx from the Spektrum Programmer and then loaded the Tx Preset from the Rx into a new Model on my NX10. I do not have any new menu items...e.g. Nose Wheel Stabilization. I then Reset the Rx from Forward Programming, and put the Preset back into the Rx. Still no menus. I'm wondering if the Preset hides all the new menu items.
@TwoBrosRC may I ask, what's the primary sources of your "documentation"? Spektrum doesn't say jack squat about most of this stuff, with some exception given to the wiki page...but still to figure out things like the order of programming something and them having to go back to another screen and do something before you can do something else.....I've not been able to find that kind of "flow chart" information about any of there stuff, and I've been using it for 15 years! Thanks for putting this info out here for others to use, that's really awesome of you!
FrSKY Archer Plus SR10+ it’s only about $50 bucks and with an open source radio you can do all of this with it and more! There is a serious learning curve though. Programming is not nearly as intuitive as Spentrum forward programming but the mixing options are seriously endless with 2 separate gyro systems and a maximum of 24 channels.
@@christopherrogers7572yeah as someone who has both spektrum and frsky sr10+ the new updates from spektrum kinda kick butt! I’ve bugged all the TH-cam frsky gurus and their tech support about adjustable throttle based gains on frsky IN FLIGHT and they still go😮 what..? And with spektrum opening up hidden channels finally they are retaining flyers like myself who have been following Jon since day one. I think frsky transmitters feel and handle like high quality but, they just need to step up their use envelopes and growth with modern flyers .
I've updated my ix14. Updated the Ar8360t. When I go to foward programming, it won't connect. Times out. Reciever is powered up in F22 and all surfaces work. Thoughts?
@TwoBrosRC if possible can you share the rate gains for the zeus.. thank you

Glad you found it helpful, man!
This is the absolute BEST explanation and setup video I've seen. I didn't really understand "stick priority" and a couple other thing's until now. Put's Spektrum to shame. Though, I will need to watch it several more times to fully assimilate, and apply. Many Thanks!!!!
Glad to help you understand the ins and outs of AS3X+!
I wish I could give this video more than 1 like. There’s just so much meaningful info here!!!
Great video! Now I know why AS3X+ needs 20 channels. It just didn't make sense that I have a 14 channel radio, a 6 channel receiver, but now AS3X is 20 channels.
AS3X has always supported 20 channels - it's just more useful now!
Very interesting, I am reprogramming all my stuf to as3x+ and boy it works great. Now with this video I am going to go even further with playing with gains.
Thx man!.
Glad it helped!
Man I'm a old school flyer, going on 45yrs of flying rc, I would need to fly your planes to see what I'm missing
You can always try out a gyro to see what you've been missing!
@@TwoBrosRC I have used them but not to a level of your kind of use
ALOT less correction when flying in wind i love it been flying around 30 years
You’re using TH-cam and not a VHS tape. Might as well move forward with the hobby. Doesn’t mean you have to change or get rid of any of your planes. Just enjoy what we have now and how much things have improved.
@TheValleyFlyersRC I record my flying videos on a old school tape player and I drive a old 21 window VW bus
Excellent, comprehensive tutorial, Jon. Thanks!
I fly in SAFE a lot. I just blow up the bank angles and enjoy the hell out of flying around the park near home- and bringing my planes home in one piece afterwards 😊
One thing I've learned is that SAFE gains are NOT the same thing as AS3X(+) gains.
It keeps my relationship with this hobby "spicy" 😊
Thanks again for the deep dive in 3x+, Jon 👍
Yup - that's why the subject of SAFE gains wasn't covered. There's no real point to adjusting them for the average user. + as a system is so much better, it's hard to believe the same receivers are being flown. What used to fly worse now flies so much better, regardless of the wind.
I rock Radiomaster. But still enjoyed this video. Great job Jon 👍

Your intro made the EC-1500 look like a better 3D plane than the new RV-8 some other channel just claimed was so good.
The EC-1500 is a superb airframe that just needs a few mods to really perform. We'll be covering that in a couple of weeks!
Yeah, indeed. The forward flip in 2:23 stopped my breath for a moment and I was wondering if I also „need“ an EC 1500 now all of a sudden … 😂. Jon is definitely a bad influence on your wallet 😋

i thought we didnt used gyros here😂😂😂😂 for real great video it realy smooths out a good fly on any day thqts how i fly on as3x, i use frsky though there systems is bananas, barrel rolls on safe dont ask me how😂😂😂😂
I know what you mean, just when I thought I was getting this stuff down, John hits us with this video and I'm left scratching my head 🤔
I love you man. Good shit. 👍🏻
well done video, lots to digest, but looking forwards to learning ascx+ for my 3d planes. Been using the cortex for 8 years, but it looks like this finally has some of the adjustments I've been hoping for
Great video Jon
Never thought of mixing the gain to the throttle. Just off to try it on EdgeTx. Thanks for the idea!
I agree with the attitude stuff! Good one John.
Increase the gains using your slider or switch when doing low speed passes that require lots of stability.
Thank you! I'll do this in the morning!

The best thing about the AR10360T is that you get multiple gyros for the same price. It's a steal.
Feel like it would really be helpful to my mig-29 once I have it up and running.
The FW F-16 will be using your own open-stock receiver, so all you need to do is update it and follow the initial setup info in the vid - then program in throttle-based gains if you want to see what bliss is like in model jets lol
Hop on Discord for follow-up comments!
Hop on Discord and show your transmitter screen.
Ok. Thanks very much for the clarification.
I’m looking at the nose wheel gyro
Settings and will I get less back and forth movement as I’m in my takeoff roll and go straight as possible if I lowered the window number which defaults to 50%?
You're better off running high gain values for the nosewheel.
@ perfect. Thank you.
Hi Brothers!!I wanted to ask for clarification: If I update the transmitter firmware, (NX8) do I lose the models that are stored? Another question: what happens for the UMX series models? To make as3x + effective do I have to delete them and install them again? Thanks for your kind reply.
You shouldn't lose anything by updating, but no idea if the UMX models support AS3X+.

Heading Window default is 50% so it makes sense to me that the lower the number the less variance which is a good thing correct?
Generally, though heading is not recommended for the nosewheel.
Hello Trigger.

Hope it's useful to ya!
Thanks!
This is like calculus class! Haha😅
How to set up and what values for 'Hand Launch' assist please?
We intentionally didn't cover that because we've never used the feature and have always hand-tossed in SAFE. At some point we may cover it.
May its better to discuss in discord, but i took a short look (after now self confused) into the nx8+ manual pdf, and there is on page 15 :
"For example, if your airplane has flaps, retracts, and SAFE: On
a single switch you may configure one flight mode for takeoff
which adds a small amount of flaps with the gear down and
SAFE activated in one switch position, a second flight mode for
normal flight with flaps and gear up and SAFE off on a second
switch position, and a third flight mode for landing with flaps fully
deployed, retracts down and SAFE activated on a third switch
position. By putting all of these features on one flight mode switch,
you don’t have to work separate flaps, gear and SAFE switches
during the flight."
In my understanding - its not complete wrong to assign the F-Mode "Switch" as the FM-Channel for the forward programmed / Flight Modes. If iam complete wrong, it would great to get a feedback. Thank you for your great AS3X+ summary.
Flight Modes in the transmitter are a different system than the flight modes in the receiver. They can be completely independent of one another.

@@TwoBrosRC 4:44 looks different from 11:12, and they're both Gain Channel Select.
They're definitely not the same screen. 4:44 is the gain channel selection, 11:12 is heading programming.
@@TwoBrosRC Sorry, wrong spot, I meant 14:11 where you say "gain channel select". It seems that the initial setup gain channel select and returning to gain channel select have a different look. There's no reason it wouldn't.
A properly configured gyro won't affect how your control feels.
i wonder if that programming works with the tx16s. that forward programming script always seemed buggy in the past
Possibly, but it's way easier to use a Spektrum radio with their receivers.
We don't fly helicopters so we're unable to help here.
Just a question. Upgrading to AS3X plus my Turbo Timber Evo does it mean that since i will factory reset it it will unlock the 637TA receiver in order to increase the surface throws too? Thx
You need to factory reset any receiver you've upgraded to AS3X+ and rebind it.
Sounds like your receiver orientation was incorrect?
That's not how they work. Channels are not additive.
@@TwoBrosRC I was under the impression the two bound receivers worked independently and added channels per the second receiver. I rigged up a power source and bound two receivers with servos to see the controls and get a better understanding of you answer.
Thank you for responding and providing clarification.
Ok, thanks, I'm staying with dx7s and ar636a
That's unfortunate, you're definitely missing out.
Join up on Discord and ask for help in the #tech-and-setup channel. We can't help on YT comments.
@@TwoBrosRC Will do, thanks. It's right in your description. Heading over now.
How did you learn this?
Through lots of experimentation and referring to documentation.
It should be linked in the description.
if you're not on spektrum whats another good gyro with similar quality?
Uhhhh... the closest would be the Flex Aura, and that's crazy expensive and requires a laptop to adjust values instead of using your transmitter.
@@TwoBrosRChawt damn that price 😅 I have a hobby eagle A3 super 4 for now but I’ve been curious as there’s no clear hierarchy in this hobby
Thoughts?
Rebind and try again. If it doesn't work, contact HH support.
