    Visit the AS3X+ setup guide on the Spektrum Wiki Page for a detailed explanation on each setting: wiki.spektrumrc.com/spektrum/as3x-setup-guide
    Join Ethan Ater and Miguel Alvarez as they walk through the initial setup and tuning process on a 3D airplane! Traditionally, pilots felt that a modern gyro would greatly increase the overall stability in 3D aircraft. However, they felt that a gyro would interfere with certain 3D maneuvers where the airframe's momentum was needed. With AS3X+, this concern is in the past! Miguel walks through the initial settings currently recommended by Spektrum that eliminate gyro interference with these kind of 3D maneuvers while explaining what each AS3X+ setting is used for. With a couple of tuning flights, Miguel and Ethan are able to get the perfect tune with their 3D airplane!

      When are we going to get a lightweight 4 channel AS3X+ reciever for our 3D profile planes? I would really love one. The AS3X+ 8 channel has made it easy for me to learn torque rolls with my EF 78 inch Extra 300 V3. Once I learned I was able to shut off the gyro and do them. It would be awesome to be able to do the same with our smaller 32" profile foamies.

    I'm in love with AS3X. It has some black magic going on. It feels so natural when flying. You forget there is a gyro. It flies like a much bigger plane. I switched all of my planes to AS3X+. I'm so glad we are able to upgrade our current receivers to AS3X+. This is going to be hard to beat. Great job guys! I'm excited to see what is coming next!

      I would follow the synapse video series that David Payne does, as standard tuning procedures are good all around with the exception of 3D (which is why we did this video). Aside from the powersafe/synapse specific stuff, the tuning is the same (AS3X+) th-cam.com/play/PL3xicOtuJ600o5dUvry9z2Og03EAJ-Xdg.html

    This is such a well presented video on this subject - best I've seen. Will you please do another showing how best to use AS3X+ with an EDF aircraft - perhaps the Freewing F22 Raptor. This would need, IMHO, to be with an aft CG compared to the OM setting, so that the gyro is having to work when it comes to landing in particular.
    And another video showing how to use the additional gyros which are available on the AR10360T. Probably best demonstrated on an aircraft with Thrust Vectoring Nozzles and Canards. TwoBrothersRC videos are good but he tends to skip through too fast for them to be good instructional videos.
    I'm sure there are others craving for more information and guidance on how to benefit from this imaginative upgrade.

    I appreciate this setup guide! As I am just getting into 3D and I did not totally 100% understand how to tune as3x+ properly, I was close, but your guys explanation with onscreen display and voice walk through was fantastic. I was able to understand the differences in settings when you demonstrated the flights, by turned down the speed down to .5 on certain parts to understand. I love the idea about putting the gains on the trim switch. But How do you trim the plane after assign the gains to that switch? Or is the point is to never trim again after first flight trimming?
    All hail the coding AS3X GOD!!

      This is actually using additional trimmer inputs which not all radios have. I believe NX8 and above, as well as all iX radios have them. I forget where the cutoff is on DX radios. In my case, I'm using the "L Trim" on my iX20, which is just above the throttle trim.

    Hi Miguel. I have another question. I have had everything setup and flew for awhile. I adjusted more servo travel onto rudder. So do I need to like factory reset and reset up my as3x plus. You said relearning servo after the fact is not a good idea?

    • @MiguelFAlvarez
      @MiguelFAlvarez หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not saying its a bad idea to relearn, in fact you should, but you might need to adjust your Yaw gains depending on how much it was changed. The systems gyro outputs will use the travel range taught to know its allowed movement range. If you reduce travel and don't relearn, the gyro might work on a higher range than what you want it too (especially an issue if it'll cause servo binding). If you increase travel and don't relearn, the gyro output might be limited as its not allowed to move as far as the user can.

    On my NX10, I am trying to use the left trim for gyro gains, I can only get -75 to +75, and travel is set at 150%, any ideas?

    • @MiguelFAlvarez
      @MiguelFAlvarez หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't change the travel. Leave it at default +/- 100. You need to assign the analog trim switch, not digital

    • @carlmorasch7831
      @carlmorasch7831 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ I guess like usual, there is nothing in the manuals about left or right trims, as far as I know, u have to assign the analog left trim to a channel to be able to use it as a gain channel, once I do that it only goes -50 to +50, then I raise travel to 150 and the output is -75 to +75. It does change my gains, but not 0-100.

    • @MiguelFAlvarez
      @MiguelFAlvarez หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@carlmorasch7831 You probably have something else set up in your model that is affecting the trim range. If you create a new model and assign an analog trim, you'll see it gets the full range. That is a miss on the manual for sure, however I did point out in the video that you have to specifically use Analog Trim as the range on digital is +/- 30 (assuming default travels).

    • @carlmorasch7831
      @carlmorasch7831 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ so I decided to create a new model, I found that the original model was effected on all 6 trims, they would all go -50 to +50 in increments of 1, so 100 steps. The new model goes -100 to +100 in increments of 2, so 100 steps, Just like the old model. I don’t have a clue what setting could do this, if any? The trim menu is very limited, and it’s set up the same between the new and old model. I’m saying it’s a glitch in the radio, until proven different.

    Is it possible you guys can Hook up. on a 50 CC or 30Cc gas airplane.

    • @MiguelFAlvarez
      @MiguelFAlvarez หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gas is fine. Make sure to soft mount the receiver. If you run into vibration related issues, you can increase the gyro filter level on the receiver.

  • @carlmorasch7831
    @carlmorasch7831 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I read a comment here about soft mounting in a gas plane, I have the AR20410T with Synapse that I put in a 76cc plane, is there somewhere that a guy can get info on how to “soft mount” the Synapse? Or mount it at all? Like turbine jet vs gas plane? Spektrum makes great products, with no follow through. These types of videos are appreciated and are a game changer.

    • @MiguelFAlvarez
      @MiguelFAlvarez หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Synapse mounting is already soft mounted through the included grommets with screws. Alternatively you can remove the grommets and use double sided tape, though it might not be as secure. As mentioned in the other issue, if you still run into vibration issues, you can increase the gyro filter strength. I run a synapse in my 100CC Extra with no issues and no gyro filter changes just mounting with screws through the grommets.

      @@MiguelFAlvarez that would be great, thank you. On a side note, if you could get someone to put in the manuals that the wiki exists, it would really help new pilots. I just got into this hobby 6 months ago and it took me 5 months to stumble across the wiki, and what a game changer it is. Like u said, videos are really difficult to update, but the wiki is easy and super accurate. Every video I tried to watch to learn how to do something, I noticed the transmitter menus were all different. So I knew I could not use said videos and had to just figure it out myself. This was an awesome year for me to start doing this hobby with all the new stuff, but it made it even more difficult without the wiki. So please, try to get the wiki web page added in the manuals. In bold print! lol

      @@carlmorasch7831 If you look at the manuals for the pre-updated "+" receivers or the latest powersafe, there is actually a QR code that will take you to the wiki. Obviously for the older rx's its not going to be there (manuals date before the wiki). There is also a link to the wiki in the support tab for any of these new receivers in the product page.

    Several months ago, I downloaded about 50 SRM files for Horizon's BNF planes from the shared Google drive. None of them used the 2X or 4X gain sensitivity setting, and I 've never been able to use them. So, I'm wondering why you'd double the gain in the algorithm and add the 0.25X and 0.5X options. If someone wanted more AS3X gain, they could simply set the sensitivity to 2X or 4X. Did you really need to have 5 sensitivity ranges? I used to be able to use the 1X setting, but now I have to use the 0.5X setting. Adding two more ranges when 2X or 4X could have been used makes no sense to me.

    • @MiguelFAlvarez
      @MiguelFAlvarez หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just because the BNF's don't use them doesn't mean they're not useful to others. Our BNF's are only a fraction of the model variety out in the world.The gain was doubled in the algorithm because most of the models we tested ended up with twice the gain that they had in 2.x code without oscillations. If we didn't double the gain behind the scenes, most people would've been having to change their multiplier from 1x to 2x to reach their max gain, so we decided to "shift the window" instead. Believe it or not, there are people that use up to the 4x multiplier (very docile planes), and there are others that use the 0.25x multiplier (extremely sensitive/3D planes). In fact, I personally have planes with both 0.25x and 4x multipliers.

    Is Spektrum becoming like Tesla with 'full self driving' trying to eliminate the driver? Just like how a race driver would not want to become a passenger, a 3d pilot wants to actually fly the plane. What's next? An AS3X setting for glider 'pilots' that finds its own thermals and circles above with no input?

      There's nothing autonomous about AS3X plus here, all flying is done by the pilot. Like the difference between an autopilot and flight stabilization with airliners. Doubt 98% of fliers could do the maneuvers Ethan performed here. And Ethan could have done them without the gyro, it's just that when flying in gusty conditions, his plane would seem like there's less wind. And landings would be more like "butter" all the time. And we can fly smaller planes, more realistically (as they touched on here.) Oh, and you can fly with the CG further back, yet still fly in a straight line. That's electronic stability.
