  • A young idealistic girl has HAD IT with her boring life and her job at the phone company! She’s off to California!
    Things she has:
    -A bad attitude
-Unrealistic ideas of the glamour of Hollywood
    -No job skills
    -No qualifications
-A “bad boy” boyfriend (you can tell he’s a bad boy because… um… he asks if he can drive her home? They go on dates at well-lit restaurants? He has a steady job in manufacturing? He wears leather gloves? He likes Peter Frampton? He sounds like a damn youth pastor, what is her mom’s problem?!)
    Things she doesn’t have:
    -Job skills
    -Qualifications
    -Money
    -A clue
This goes exactly where you’d expect. Soon she’s doing pr0n and cocaine.
Oh California! You devil! Tempting pure young maidens with your beaches and temperate climate!

EDIT AGAIN: Hey, I keep forgetting this video exists! I’m grateful for all the views and subs, even though, alas… my account isn’t eligible for monetization 🤣 Ah well! Until the copyright holder gets mad at me, this fine film can stay up. (Even tho I’m not the only one who has it uploaded)
I try to heart or at least acknowledge as many comments as I can. I’m not really stepping in unless I see something really messed up, and me hearting a comment doesn’t necessarily mean I agree or endorse the opinion, just that I appreciate the commenter’s time and engagement.
EDIT 2: Hey again guys! I still intend to figure out a way to get this captioned! I’m in the middle of moving house right now and it’s super stressful, so I’m not able to focus on that right now.
HOWEVER! I found the DVD on Amazon! Shattered Innocence a.co/d/5MQX1Pv it’s only $10 USD and probably captioned. I don’t know for certain but it might be worth looking into.
    EDIT: RIP Melinda Dillon!
Hey guys, I don't know why automatic captions aren't available for this movie. I've set the language settings to English for both the video and the title, I have no idea why YT isn't trying to caption it. Part of the reason I uploaded it was in the hopes that it would have automatic captions, because sometimes I just can't understand the dang ol' dialogue. So sorry!
I MIGHT try to subtitle it myself if there’s any demand. I’ve never done it before but I have transcribed long sound files before so it can’t be THAT complicated (famous last words lol)

Guys this is a typical 80s early 90s movie. Y’all ain’t got no compassion. Things were different back then. There was no internet or « story time « vlogs. A lot of things that movies show now were based on stories back then or maybe you knew someone who knew someone who did. Most small town girls were naive and just like her.Have a heart. This is the life of many women and men in the industry.

There were no cell phones or computers. But, what this young woman had were loving parents and a support system. But, she couldn't see it past her materialism. She wasn't that naive. There were instances in this movie where she lied to get what she wanted even though the porn producers and drug dealer boyfriend tried to shield her from the pitfalls of her decision. Her own mother admitted that she was stubborn to a fault. It's sad she died so young. But, she started at 18 and died at 20. I'm surprised it only took two years for her to get to her breaking point.

Learning to love yourself is the most difficult task I've ever faced, so I completely understand how she ended up spiralling so fast. For me, I turned to drugs, not sex. I've recently learned that selfish people actually hate themselves, people assume that if you're selfish, you love only yourself, but it's actually the opposite and I've been very selfish. Still learning how to love myself and I haven't gotten very far.

It is a depressing movie, too sad to see someone so pretty and a young valuable life to destroy herself with pornography and drugs. Someone so naive cannot live alone and away from her parents. Some families don't train their children with society issues in the outside world. Perhaps parents and their children should read a newspaper together to teach their kids reality, cases, and issues that affect our world. Such as drugs and the world of horrible cheap movies.

I didnt' know it was based on a true story. I think this movie sugarcoats a lot of Applegate's real experiences. Still its a good movie.
