Those cheap rice cookers are actually even cooler than he explained. There are no sensors in cheap rice cookers, only magnets. When magnets get hot, they lose their magnetism, which makes the little plunger inside let go and breaks the electrical circuit.
@@Azanthiel A sensor isn't necessarily high tech... This is literally using a magnet as a sensor. In the West you shouldn't wash rice. The reason for this is due to how Rice is industrialized. When you wash rice here in the US, you are removing a powder that enriches the rice. The industrial grinding process removes too much from rice, so companies enrich the rice. I've never experienced Rancid rice and most Western people don't. The reason Rice is washed in the east is due to how it is produced and it doesn't have preservatives. If you wash your rice in the US you are removing vitamins from the rice. I understand you are from Malaysia but just wanted to spread some neat knowledge.
@@GundamGokuTV This is not a universal truth. Not all rice sold in the US is enriched. If I didn't wash the rice the gluten bubbles would push the lid right off my rice cooker.

"Of course I've used a rice cooker to make rice before"
"Idk how long this preheats"
"Why is this staying on warm"

She still ended up getting the home cook version of a Michelin Star - an Uncle Roger Approval - and that's all that matters.
No I think she do use rice cooker but only for cooking rice bcos she's not so poor that she can't pay her gas bill
I use my rice cooker once a week, I just learned how it knows when my rice is done 10 minutes ago. I thought it was just magic 🤷♂️
I think she used a digital rather than this simple one.
Probably a different model

Nothing gets more nostalgic than that song when you are stuck at the dorm missing your family’s rice cooker
11:15 “curling iron “ 🤣
There was a time I moved house temporarily and unless I'm frying something, I cooked most of my meals in a rice cooker. I agree, very versatile.
I had to spend a week in a hotel in a big city when my late husband needed surgery. I had a room with a big fridge, toaster and microwave. But I went and hunted down a rice cooker to make simple meals. There were a lot of restaurants along the street, but with the stress, I knew that I wouldn't be able to stomach much of it. It was life saver and I made room in my luggage to take it home
@@judyjohnson9610 Hope your husband is doing well!❤

We Malaysian always wash our rice before we cook it.If you dont wash the rice,Our mom will come and beat us with steel spatula.I LOVE YOU MOM.
@@GundamGokuTV Asians just use water a lot for cleaning, you can't take it out of us lol
Brazilian moms act the same
@@therealmkposh yeah but he’s just sharing knowledge on why it cannot be done in the east
@@GundamGokuTV This is not a universal truth. Not all rice sold in the US is enriched. If I didn't wash the rice the gluten bubbles would push the lid right off my rice cooker.

If you make sure there’s always water at the bottom of the rice cooker, you can even do slow cook or stew or braise cook with a rice cooker.

If you live in a school dormitory long enough, you can get really crestive when it comes to cooking. Other than using rice cooker to cook anything but rice, my room mates and I used a clothes iron as a substitute as a burger grill.
