I miss my 1992 KDX that I bought brand new. Back in the day my fellow riders and I would play tag where whomever was "it" would have to get tagged on the rear tire, I hardly ever lost lol. That bike was a beast, I wish I never sold it for 1K in 2002!
I had a 1989 and this video brings back so many memories. I lived in a remove area of NJ with miles and miles of trails, rocks, steep hill climbs, etc. The KDX was the perfect trail machine. Amazing throttle response and so easy to maneuver through the trails. I would love to have that bike back.
not sure about the counterbalance but new kdx 200 engine and new lighter frame with updated suspension would be good... id buy one.. i have a 97kdx 200 engine in a 98kx 125 frame.. light and fast.. I drag off the 250f no worries...
@@blixxy1320 I had the engine cases and swingarm modified by a retired mechanical engineer, he also rebuilt the kdx 200 engine for me.. but yeah, there is a little work to get it all to fit together.. lots of helpful information on thumpertalk and kdx forums ..if you are interested in doing a conversion..
@@2strokeaddict830 reminds me of my 86 IT 200 Yamaha, I had 85’ YZ 250 forks and shock on it along with Lectron carb and full DG exhaust. Man she was a runner, I had so many people want to buy that bike after I ran off and left them on their newer bikes.
Dude you can ride! That 200 is plenty of bike for 99 percent of the riding public. They are a really good bike. Very good quality video...I felt like I was on the bike riding it. Thanks for posting!
@Robert Wallace exactly right ! I had an 86’ IT 200(same difference)with 85’ YZ250 suspension, it would hang with about anything, especially in the tight shit.
@Robert Wallace you wouldn’t believe how many new KTM’s and Husky’s I embarrassed on the gnarly hills. Then id take their bike, the one they couldn’t make it up with and rip that bitch up through there lol.
Love the older KDX 200's l had one in the late 80s that was built bored out had some grinding on intake and other things. Man that thing would wheelie 1-5 gear easily. Man you could snap the throttle it would jump over trees and things like nobody's business. Awesome bike. Man l wish l still had it.
@@frank9301 Yep, out of all the great bikes I've had I regret selling my '88 KDX the most. Bulletproof engine, seriously hard to stall, sweet handling in the tight open and could hit 145kph in open country while feeling solid.
I’ve got a 1992 KDX , probably will not ever get rid of. Bought it new . My main bike now is a crf 450 , setup for woods. I went through the the KDX a while back, and it only has about 4 hours on it now. I take it out at least once every year , if not more. They are sweet bikes.
Bought new in 01 a leftover 99 KDX200. Put it on a diet and dropped at least ten pounds of weight by adding a FMF Gnarly woods pipe and Turbine Core II silencer, and V force reeds, removed airbox lid. Open country on stock 13t countershaft, for tight technical trails I ran a 12t front. It may not have been the fastest thing in production but I know I surprised the hell out of many bigger bikes quite often. Very spirited bike, easy to maneuver, just an absolute blast to ride. Damn do I miss it.
Xr 200 was the bike my sister rode. I had, 80 kdx 175, then '84 PE 175 ordered from.Japan, then 85 kdx 200. The xr sucked. 85 kdx was the best offroad bike. My friends son still rides it.
good rider over good bike anyday. ill never forget the time i smoked a 250f on an XR100 cause he didnt know what he was doing edit: BIG* bike. kdx is a hell of a good bike
I have both. 2004 KTM 200 SX with slight woods mods (FMF Gnarly, flywheel weight) with WP suspension. KDX is a 2001 with an FMF Gnarly, Factory Connection suspension, otherwise stock. KTM has a weight advantage at about 23 LBS lighter. Turns slower (wide) than the KDX and is a fair bit stiffer. No surprise there. It IS an MX bike after all. Power is a LITTLE more on the KTM at the higher RPM, but will NOT lug down low. Short gears, always shifting. KTM does better over high speed rough whoops than KDX. KDX is far more supple in the woods, but not mushy either. Can REALLY lug down low, seldom stalls in technical stuff. HUGE advantage in the technical stuff, despite the added weight. Rev rage far more usable. No doubt more confidence inspiring. Definitely ride better, smoother and overall faster on KDX. I recently finished a full restoration of the KDX and rode the KTM in the interim. Getting back on the green machine was a HUGE reminder of what makes it so special. The one I'd never sell. Bulletproof, inexpensive, comfy and all the machine an intermediate to skilled rider under 200LBS and over 50 yrs old would ever need.
@@michaeltalbert38 I tried that. Stock is 13/47. The bike came with 12/47 then I went from 13/49 to 13/48 to 13/47 and now I want more space between the gears. KDX220R with FMF everything, high cap spark coil, Lectron, RB high compression head. On the trails that bike is wild. Great ride video & thanks for sharing!
Anyone can ride a old POS fast but they are more likely to put you in hospital And that's a 2 lane Highway your'e riding on- so I don't think it counts. Find some single track on the side of a rocky hill and id be more interested

Modern day train riding
finally a kdx that runs properly lol
@@TheWithoutLawManwdym man those are probably one of the most reliable two strokes😂
Music to my ears...sounds like you have it tuned to perfection, long live the kdx.
What we need is a modern counter-balanced, electric start KDX 200 in the KX250F frame.
Maybe the F. Frame might be heavier and not balance the same way. Food for thought.

Some minor suspension mods, alloy parts added for lightness, full fmf exhaust and that puppy will run forever

That thing is ripping through the woods! Nice riding!
That's awesome..that kdx is running perfectly..love that sound of angry swarm of bees haha
That is some pretty country. The trails are a little too wide open for my taste, though. I'm used to tighter trails.
The KDX has a race pedigree like few other dirt bikes. Folks who don't know this are fair game.
This was a fantastic video. Thumb up, subbed and shared. Also added to my 2 Stroke Content playlist. Can't wait to see your newer content.
That was awesome that’s my New Year’s resolution get me a KDX and hit the trails they have one here 1999 baby 👌🤘🏻
Frickin awesome run! Nice work!
My brother is currently rebuilding a 1989 kx 250 and 500 such great bikes
Drove an xr 500r a few times. Way too big and heavy in woods but awesome 3rd gear wheelie .machiine.
The kdx is barely even being pushed half of its potential against the 4 stroke turds
Honestly wish I could see the rest of the ride
Is this at Brushy Mountain? Love that bike!
Nice riding.......you put it to the red and orange bikes👍
Love your work mate, nice riding. Great bike, stuff legend are made of!
Awesome video bike sounds fantastic what fuel mixture are you running
We use 25 year old kmx 125 here...they are fun to ride on trails
That's how a kdx should be ridden!
Give 'em hell m8! I'm looking for one of these too. You have to look every day because.... well you know why.
I feel like a minor sprocket change on that KDX would have made a MAJOR difference in this "race"..... :p

Nice riding! Is this trail on the East coast?
Brushy mountain Motorsports near Taylorsville, NC
Had 6 of them the do anything go anywhere bike nothing can stop them not
Mudholes or mountains
Great trail though.
Absolutely awesome
They can’t put run a KDX.
This videos insane!
👍

Yes
Where’s Brushy Mtn.? It looks like it’s around East TN where I live.

What size sprockets are on this bike?
I think it was stock up front, couple more teeth over stock in the rear.
