I had a 1989 and this video brings back so many memories. I lived in a remove area of NJ with miles and miles of trails, rocks, steep hill climbs, etc. The KDX was the perfect trail machine. Amazing throttle response and so easy to maneuver through the trails. I would love to have that bike back.
Xr 200 was the bike my sister rode. I had, 80 kdx 175, then '84 PE 175 ordered from.Japan, then 85 kdx 200. The xr sucked. 85 kdx was the best offroad bike. My friends son still rides it.
I’ve got a 1992 KDX , probably will not ever get rid of. Bought it new . My main bike now is a crf 450 , setup for woods. I went through the the KDX a while back, and it only has about 4 hours on it now. I take it out at least once every year , if not more. They are sweet bikes.
I miss my 1992 KDX that I bought brand new. Back in the day my fellow riders and I would play tag where whomever was "it" would have to get tagged on the rear tire, I hardly ever lost lol. That bike was a beast, I wish I never sold it for 1K in 2002!
I didn't use a rebuild kit. I have a lot of kawasaki trim assemblies and I took the best brushes, gears and housing to make 1 good motor. The gears are the highest wear point, usually the motor brushes and armature are fine. The biggest issue with these is corrosion so take everything apart and clean it real good. It's meticulous work. Check to make sure the wiring isn't corroded. Seal it all back up with a little bit of silicone.
Dude you can ride! That 200 is plenty of bike for 99 percent of the riding public. They are a really good bike. Very good quality video...I felt like I was on the bike riding it. Thanks for posting!
Your voltage form the igniter “gray” wire is AC 2~4 not DC to the trim control module that is what activates the micro relay for the DC “red” wire that sends power to the main “orange” wire. Your gray wire is for the tac pulse that wire is what activates the trim box. your completely bypassing the problem doing it this way. With the engine running you locate the red and gray pigtail near the exhaust manifold that is your main power supply set your meter to AC probe the gray wire and and find a good ground. You should be getting 2~4 VAC. If not your igniter is bad, if you get voltage your trim module is bad.
Anyone can ride a old POS fast but they are more likely to put you in hospital And that's a 2 lane Highway your'e riding on- so I don't think it counts. Find some single track on the side of a rocky hill and id be more interested
Love the older KDX 200's l had one in the late 80s that was built bored out had some grinding on intake and other things. Man that thing would wheelie 1-5 gear easily. Man you could snap the throttle it would jump over trees and things like nobody's business. Awesome bike. Man l wish l still had it.
@@frank9301 Yep, out of all the great bikes I've had I regret selling my '88 KDX the most. Bulletproof engine, seriously hard to stall, sweet handling in the tight open and could hit 145kph in open country while feeling solid.
Is this at Brushy Mountain? Love that bike!

Great trail though.
Drove an xr 500r a few times. Way too big and heavy in woods but awesome 3rd gear wheelie .machiine.

Music to my ears...sounds like you have it tuned to perfection, long live the kdx.
That is some pretty country. The trails are a little too wide open for my taste, though. I'm used to tighter trails.
That is awesome! Kdx will flat git it!
How boring really goodness
Some minor suspension mods, alloy parts added for lightness, full fmf exhaust and that puppy will run forever
Nice ride
🎉

Great video! Very helpful! You said you rebuilt the trim motor? Where did you get the rebuild kit from? Thanks in advance

If you consider a KDX as a POS, it's obvious that you don't have clue as to what you are talking about
Stand up and squeeze the tank with your knees , and quit looking at your fender
