  • I had to compare the KDX200 to something, so I thought it would be cool to see if it could hang with my much more expensive CRF250X!

Considering the fact you can buy a KDX for what a complete engine rebuild would cost on the CRF. I think the KDX takes the win. Yes, I'm a fan boy of the KDX. I own two.

Own both. Love both. CRX is best Rocky Mountain bike. KDX best eastern mountain bike. Both good in desert. Both have been bulletproof. KDX much easier maintenance, but CRX rock solid dependability also. CRX handling plusher. KDX turns much better in tight stuff. CRX miles per gallon is superior. Longer range. I'm a 67 year old rider with 52 years on a dirt bike.

Really great side by side comparison! I like it when you' do this type of comparison with the split screen and elapsed times. Anyway, the KDX of course is really a woods bike, single track, trail bike. I'm honestly very surprised it did as well as it did out in the wide open desert terrain. But then again, your XR250 is also a tight woods type bike, but it seems to do well in the open country also.

I’m just getting back into dirt biking this past year after being away from it for a long time. I’ve been mostly street riding/track days/road race schools for many years. Anyway, I found a brand new leftover 2017 CRF250X for sale at a dealership. I bought it on a whim thinking it would hold me over until I decided exactly what I was looking for. I must say I love this machine. It’s such a great all around bike. I’ve opened it up to let it breathe, installed lots of protective parts and it is great. I think I’ll be keeping it for awhile.

Honda four strokes are unmatched. A Crf250 is more than enough bike to have fun on.
But the KDX is a sleeper. It’s almost as good as a four stroke MX 250, and it was developed at a time when MX was all two strokes.
The KDX200 was/is a special bike. Affordable then, more affordable now, and they run like champs!
That said, I love Honda four strokes! Your CRF will run and ride better, and be a fun freekin machine! 👍

I can say that I'd much prefer another KDX when it's time for a rebuild though....last time I rebuilt one it was a couple hundred bucks,I rebuilt my second CRF250X with a mild cam upgrade, was around $1,600 (same shop, same rates for labor). BUT,I made street legal and plated my last CRF250X,can't do that (as far as I know) a KDX where I live. Too tough to call for me,LOL,I did love both. I also own 3 KDX's and cry 450. The Hondas are more refined, slightly better suspended and definitely make use of the 4 stroke traction advantage. But if you're play riding like I do, neither bike has much of a performance advantage. The KDX has a bit more confident engine feel for me. The CRF is like riding on air, great suspension. I’m not knocking CRF250s, but I can say as an owner of an 89 KDX200, it’s a much better value than the CRF. My son learned to ride on a klx125, then the KDX, and now rides a 2001 CR250R. We love Kawas and Hondas, but we really love two strokes! Four strokes are great, but two strokes are far more cost efficient than four strokes, way easier to rebuild, and have a higher power to rate ratio than four strokes, assuming identical frames.
Two strokes are harder to manage in the beginning, but deliver the goods when you learn how to ride them.
Anyone who learns how to ride a two stroke, will easily learn how to ride a four stroke.
Going the opposite way, riders who learned on four strokes will have a learning curve, getting accustomed to the narrower power band.
Fortunately, my son had the KDX to get his two stroke chops. It’s a smooth riding two stroke!, but still has the two stroke kick to it.
My son’s best friend just bought a KX250F. It’ll be interesting to see how it does against a CR250R.

The KDX is the one that would finnish an actual enduro race. It is simply impossible to break. After 15 years of riding and racing mine, I only had flat rires and chain snaps.

Bring them both to Kodiak and try snotty rocks with very little dirt underneath. I promise you won’t have to tell the viewers when it’s uphill🤣I’ll take, and I did, the KDX all day long.

Help... Considering one of these two bikes here. I currently ride a crf450r, but my son (9yrs old) just began riding with me and the 450r is just too much bike to lug around while he is learning. We will be riding single track trails type on soft terrain in Florida. Will need something reliable going slow and need torque for sand. I have ridden a 250x and like the low 1st gear, electric start is a plus but I know a 200 2t is easy to start and jetted right wont foul plugs. Plus the 200 costs less and if it ever needs a rebuild I can tackle that in a couple hour for pennies compared to the crf. Resale is probably no big deal, both bikes have probably depreciated to the max by now. Torture Test Magazine, which one would you recommend?

If I were just having a good time enjoying the Earth's terrain, the KDX is probably my all time favorite bike to ride so far. It's also practically maintenance-free. But for most of the racing that I do, I prefer the CRF250X. The CRF doesn't feel out of place when the race course includes a man-made motocross track or lots of whoops. The electric start is pretty much a non-factor when comparing the two in this case, because the KDX starts if you practically just look at the kicker! And I am not a fan of kicking at all, so the fact that it doesn't bother me on the KDX at all means it really is that easy!

@@TortureTestMagazine thats great thanks, I'm just following my son as he is learning so I have felt the kdx is probably the best for what I'm going to do with it.

can already tell you the crf230f has no chance , not even close, not that the crf230 isnt awesome

    • @ThatMotorsportGuy
      @ThatMotorsportGuy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@macunion1225 I can speak on that. I own a 1990 KDX200E and also a 2008 crf150f. From what I heard the 150 and the 230 are pretty similar, the 230 might have a little more low end and maybe 2-3 mph better top speed.

@@ThatMotorsportGuy ive just found out the crf230f is severely restricted from the factory , i just derestricted mine and the main jet had to go from 102 to 120 nd now it whellies off the throttle so i completely believe that 150 was close to 230 , as far as comparing a KDX still no chance as i found out

  • @codenamenoob4973

Stick a pipe on the KDX jet it and maybe that'll make up the difference, it's very easy to make nice power gains on 2 strokes

Fun factor can't be beat...and to be honest, the KDX shines best as an East Coast Woods bike. Not many CRF 250's around me...I am usually- not kidding here, passing Gas Gas, Beta's and KTM's all day long. No joke. But I get passed as well...but this ol bike CAN hang with the bid DAWGS! At my club I keep up with a CRF450. I don't pass it, but can keep up.

Crf has better outta box suspension bringing the kdx up up in that dept alone with emulators or a fork swap and possibly a stiffer spring in rear and it may well eat the crf for breakfast. Every negative thing said about the kdx in this video. Could have been avoided or over come with ssupension. Jmo but they so close now with the crf havin the advantage of newer tech. Go with the kdx with a proper suspension setup hands down the better bike.
