Prime example of this video is what Deegan most recently posted giving Hudson another chance to qualify for Lorettas. Hudson came to the conclusion that he needed to work harder on his own with a little guidance if you will from Deegs. You can tell he was disappointed, but he stayed level, and stayed in the "parents" role and used that instance to teach and I think Hudson got it. Really cool to see

the end of that video when brian was just talking was so good... a lesson learned for hudson i think but it didn’t require screaming or mental manipulation lmao

In a world full of MX how-to uploads, this has to be one of the very best and exactly the kind of content that sets MXF apart. Thank you for seeing the value and having the guts to upload, there's lots to share about this sport and often doesn't include whips, bucks, noodle cracker, loop-out, superman, scrub... Well Done!

Awesome video. Coming from a dad that has 6 kids that all ride, except the baby. I have epicly failed at all of those guidelines at one time or another. But the biggest one is I have never told any of my kids I love watching you ride. Half ass effort on my part. Thank you for making this video. I can't wait to watch my kids ride and now experience that to them.

I am sure in one way or another you have told your little ones how much you enjoy to watch them ride..... I certainly am enjoying teaching our 4yr old girl how to ride. Not sure if I have told her exactly that "I enjoy watching her ride", maybe I should 🤔 Although she is only 4 it may not be concerning to her yet..... The way I look at it, the amount of pride we have in her for any amount of riding she gets in (whether she wins or comes in dead last) says it all!!!! Have a wonderful rest of your day sir 🙌 and feel free to stop by and check us out we are gonna do the same for you ✌

We drove off and he didn’t even say one word about the race until we got home. He’s pretty experienced with training the big dogs back in the day, he built training equipment for RC, Reed, Windham, Canard, J. Stewart, etc. He’s been training them so I think he’s trying to train me the same way he did to them. I’m 13 and I race four classes with a 125. Thank you MX Factory

Growing up never riding dirt bikes or BMX and later in life (20 years old) getting into BMX to hone bike handling skills, and being that 1% (after many years as a Downhill MTB racer) I was appalled to see, and hear how hard some parents are on their children. They literally sucked the enjoyment of the sport out of those kids. I would always have time for those kids to make sure they knew I was impressed with their riding and helped them to be better. The toughest part was sometimes having to challenge those parents and help them to see how they were mishandling their child's situation.
Thanks for posting this guys! I hope there are a few parents out there that take this all into consideration. Nothing worse than a killjoy parent. . . .
I'm 40 years old now with a wife and 6 kids and we just purchased four dirt bikes and love it! I don't see any racing in our future, but we have endless trails and fire roads to rip on up here in British Columbia Canada. All my kids are stoked to ride even my 1 year old! He'll sit in the bike all day trying to kick start it. Its a great sport that can really bring a family together.
    Cheers!!!

This was an excellent video. I'm not inclined to post much In the comments but kudos to you guys for this content. We all need this reminder. It's amazing how quickly you transition from young guy not so far removed from that kid in the back seat to a parent bitching at the little dude in the back. That was the greatest tip to me. That drive home. Well done guys. Thank you. This is worth reminding periodically. As you mentioned, for most of us it's not a profession riding and racing breeds, but a permanent lifestyle and a depth of character.

In Bmx I always see the same issues and unnecessary coaching at skate and bike parks too. And the last tip is probably the best thing to hear as a rider. Even from random people who you don’t know. It lights a flame and makes everyone want to go push harder and get back on the bike every weekend. From a simple 5 words 👌🏼

I think one thing parents/ adults also forget is just having patience with a child. Kids sometimes get easily frustrated. Sometimes it’s better to have another adult/ rider give them
Advice. For some reason they comprehend it better than the parent they typically have to listen all day to.
And make sure you tell them good job when they do something good. Kids loved to be praised lol. I think that little bit of confidence helps with the next thing they need to tackle.
Keep up the good vids guys ✌️

This sport gets intense and it is easy to forget about keeping it fun when they start doing well. Good work, now can you tell a 40 year old vet how to get less slow :).

  • @leswakeham3596
    @leswakeham3596 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Having been a long time 2 wheeler. I agree with the 'step back' mentality for the parents to do, when their kids are learning something. I graduated through the 'school of hard knocks', falling off and picking myself up again. Reading specific how-to ride articles in the magazines of the day. Rarely did I get a face to face chance to learn from the pro's directly.
Nowadays, it's much better with specialty how-to DVDs available and training camps, with the top champion riders instructing. More importantly, bike maintenance has also followed suit with a few good Ytube channels, guiding the newbies and the fearful through the 'dark black art of motorcycle repairs'. This creates a better all-round development and experience for the rider. That way the parent-child relationship is balanced, and not suffered by high expectations by either/or different views. Should the interest be shared, great !! Supported by non-conflict encouragement, a bonus there too.
The main thing is, the child is stretching themselves in all aspects. Learning what life is all about, while persusing a healthy outlet for their energies within.

I know this is a very old post but I believe we can make the sport incredibly safe and stop spinal injuries and death. I love to see outdoor motocross as we all do and I think spacing between small jumps is the key allowing the rider to get set up. The second thing is we need to stop any jump that allows a rider to drop more than 10’. The jump can be very large but as long as it’s a tabletop so they don’t drop so far down. This would help a lot and motocross will still be just as bad ass as it always has been. Reducing injuries is the key to building this sport back to what we had in the 70’s-90’s along with the 2 strokes. I believe a rider shouldn’t be allowed to rider without neck protection and a helmet about 1” larger in padding. Now on to the most fatal jump of all which is the endo. This is how people end up on their head, neck and back. I don’t have the answer but Elon Musk and others can EASILY figure this out. The bike can’t endo ever. When they figure out a way to stop from going over the bars this sport will boom and we will all enjoy motocross so much more. It will take electronics to bring down a back wheel quickly to stop an endo. I know it’s possible but it takes brains and people that understand this law of physics. I’m all for toning the tracks down a bit on dangerous jumps because I know the sport will be incredible and you’ll have much better racing

5 is the best. And also don't force them to ride. Hell don't even ask them to. After they learn how to ride that choice should be on them. Too many parents are forcing their kids to ride every day or every weekend. That makes it less fun for them. If you don't force it they will have more fun. My son begs us to let him ride. But I see it often when the kids don't want to or they already rode enough one day and their parents say no you need to keep going. The ONLY time I make my boy keep going is when he crashed hard but he wasn't hurt. I make him do one more lap so he doesn't get scared of the bike. After that one lap he never wants to get back off.

My 3-year-old daughter wants to start riding dirt bikes she seen her dad riding his and now she wants to we got her one for Christmas and she really wants to start racing she's a little tomboy I know where data let her do it but I'm a little hesitant I don't want to see my little girl get hurt so we've been watching a lot of tips and tricks for teaching your kids to ride dirt bikes where's a good place to start teaching her the fundamentals uprising I know the basics you know teaching her how to stop and go use front and back brakes I know that we even went out and bought cones to teach her how to weave in and out and put placements and all that stuff but I'm kind of stuck on some of the other stuff

I grew up playing hockey and my dad was a coach. He used to beat my ass when I had a bad game. Im 34 and I won't even watch hockey now. And I find myself getting seriously triggered when I see parents being tough on there kids over a sport.

sorry but not sorry... your dad is an asshole, yelling at your kid and beating them doesn’t make them better at a sport 😂 i wish people could understand this

There's nothing to be sorry for. He was a piece of shit. He took a sport that I loved and made it so I can't stand to even watch it. The bad thing is there are way too many parents like him.

What you said in this video was just advice on parenting in general. Parents in every sport act like morons. My senior year of high school myself and one of my friends at the time decided we’d try coaching little league baseball in the spring because we had some free time. We were literally coaching like preschool and kindergarteners. It was crazy to see how seriously some of those parents took it. Most of the parents that had kids on our team were pretty good, but I would always see one or two at every game screaming their lungs out because their kid didn’t tag the runner or something. You’d have thought that they’d just lost the World Series as hard as some of the parents I saw were on their kid.

Ive seen dads pressure their kids to keep riding and ride harder by shaking their fist. Im sure the dads must feel proud when their kid is on a stretcher getting rushed to an ER.
