    My English is bad. Someone tell me if the best is the DOT or ECE???

    Not necessarily so, sorry. As I said, every helmet safety standard has pros and cons. ECE allows large openings on top of the helmet, as in the Caberg Ego. DOT does not allow large openings like that. ECE allows flimsy chin bars, like on the Airoh J106 or Marushin X-Moto Squadron, which has a chin bar that I can fold in with my hands. DOT does not allow that, thank goodness!

    As it says in the webBikeWorld article, there is no "best". There are several different standards to choose from.

    very informative. I've been wondering what the difference between standards was.

    Unfortunately, the numbers don't tell everything, there is no consensus even among experts on what is the "best" standard. The chin bar test for ECE allows for some very weak protection in that area. Many people disagree with parts of the Snell standard also. It would be great if "lower is better" numbers could tell the story, but they don't unfortunately.

    Hi! Huge thank you for the visit. It is obvious that you put so much effort to this and i truly appreciate it. Nolan helmet with polycarbonate outer sheel met the standarts with 177G but i wonder what is the number for the X-lite helmets? They are amost twice expensive because of the composite structre. Worth it? What do you think?

      Good question, the helmets are all tested to the same standard. Carbon fiber usually makes the helmet lighter but polycarbonate sometimes will absorb or dissipate energy differently. Find a good quality helmet that fits correctly, that's the most important part after safety!

      After seeing these tests, i felt a lot better buying Nolan polycarbonate helmets concerning safety. Thinking about the N86 model ;) Thanks again mate, ride safely!

    Sounds good, let me know what you end up with and how you like it. Make sure the helmet internal shape matches your head shape! Very important. See the webBikeWorld Motorcycle Helmet FAQ page and Helmet Shapes page for more info.

    Just bought a HJC IS-17 in the US (DOT certified) to be used in Europe. Should I worry? I guess I might get a fine, but is there any difference in safty?

      +Anci's channel Not sure, if you're just visiting for a ride you should be ok. But if you live there, you'll need a CE approved helmet. DOT and CE generally equivalent, each has drawbacks.

    No, the U.S. version of the N43 had to be redesigned to pass the DOT standard. We have reviews of the European Nolan N43 Air and the U.S. N43 Trilogy on webBikeWorld. The N43 Air CE version would not pass DOT tests, nor would the Caberg Ego.
    The point again is that there is no "perfect" standard and like I said, each helmet standard has its pros and cons and compromises. This discussion is pointless; I'm saying that each standard has compromises, you're claiming the ECE standard is the best.

    EC versions of the Caberg Ego and Nolan N43 Air are two examples that fail the DOT tests.

    Sorry, never heard of that brand. I suggest buying a name-brand helmet from a reputable manufacturer who has retailers in your area that will support the product.

    That 2nd impact on the first helmet was way more focused. Would definitely consider that controversial lol wtf!

      @webbikeworld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snell does the same, multiple impacts in same location. Yes, it's somewhat controversial.

      Do they test 1 helmet out of the batch or test each and every individual helmet?
      I mean, they test the helmets, which in turn weakens them, then sell that exact same helmet?

    • @webbikeworld
      @webbikeworld  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The manufacturer sends a helmet sample to the lab, which is tested and not used again. Then the manufacturer self-certifies that they are using the same materials, production methods, etc. to manufacture the helmets. They do not test every helmet before it's sold. For ECE, sometimes random samples from the retailers are checked and tested again. For DOT, sometimes someone catches an error in a production run. But either way, there's not much of a guarantee other than if the manufacturer gets caught, they'll get in trouble.
