This is why I absolutely LOVE homeschooling. "...and maybe even outside on the trampoline, having an English lesson". The freedom to teach/learn wherever you and the kiddos feel most comfortable.
Thanks for your comment ;) When the sunny weather arrived we did read alouds in the forest by a stream and poetry readings in the Japanese Gardens, what a wonderful year it has been! can't wait to see what next year will bring.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for your videos. Found them last night and they have been so helpful. I’m preparing for homeschool next year and your videos are the best I’ve found covering homeschooling, especially the good and the beautiful! Love it!
Going into my 15th year of homeschooling. It is really refreshing and encouraging to see your enthusiasm because honestly I get burnt out! Praying your joy will be an inspiration to many and myself 😉. I will never regret the years and time I've had with my kiddos. I have one who has graduated as is working doing what she loves, one who is doing dual enrollment and entering his senior year all the way down to two starting first grade.
Oh wow! YOU are an inspiration to ME!!! congrats on seeing the fruits from your labors, I can't wait for that day. I think I need advice from YOU, the pro! ;) Burn out is real, and I know it will hit so I am really trying to take it easy and keep positive (I took 2 months totally off and didn't do 1 homeschool thing at all! it was SOOO amazing!).
I'm so glad and fortunate that I just bumped into your videos. It's definitely not a co-incidence. I am so moved by your faith to the Lord than even your homeschooling skills (its not like you are not doing a great job, its Amazing work). I heard somewhere, "By the grace of Almighty God the lame can climb mountains, the blind see, the deaf hear, and the dumb speak and a pauper becomes a king". Your faith and conviction convinced me and my wife that we can also do it. A HUGE thanks from the core of our heart ❤️. Keep posting these inspirational videos.
I see the love in your words! Your situation is my exact situation. I am a HUGE scheduler and my kid definitely needs routines and she'll hold me accountable too. Thanks so much taking time for your videos
I'm so glad I found your channel! Your video has been really encouraging. I feel the call to homeschool too and it's so encouraging to hear someone else's perspective. It's great you're having a positive experience! ~Jennifer Scott
the Daily Connoisseur, I love homeschooling my youngest daughter. Wish I could have done it with my oldest three. There's a ton of support and FREE information here on TH-cam and the Internet. I did as much homework or more with my public schooled kids than I do homeschooling. Homeschooling is better because I'm not flying blind like when trying to do homework with my public schooled kids. You could poke around a FREE website another homeschooled mom developed for all FREE called "Easy Peasy". Try out teaching your kiddos something they may be working on in their current school. You're already homeschooling by working with them during homework time. 😛
Hi Monson Schoolhouse! Welcome to the TH-cam homeschooling community!!! I am a bit late welcoming you as I just came across your channel with your homeschool room tour and this schedule video. I subscribed. 😃 I think you are going to be a fantastic homeschool mom (looks like you are already), because you have the most important quality...you care. Add in your excitement and your love of teaching and your kids are tremendously blessed. I'm excited to see more of your videos. Good luck in your homeschool journey. 💗
New to your channel - & in the PNW too!! Excited to see more of your videos. We're starting home school in the next year or so! So I'm excited and love videos like this - since I'll just be jumping into it 🙈
Jessica Melton, Good luck with your homeschooling journey too! Biggest suggestions...1) You don't have to be perfect, 2) neither will your kids. 3) Don't try to do it all or have it all when you first start out..gently ease into it. Add more subjects or supplies as you go. You don't have to have everything the first day/ week/ month/ year. Just start off with the basics like reading and math. There's some mindset shift that you need to allow yourself and your family. 4) There's a tremendous amount of support and resources available. I think the hardest part of homeschooling is trying to tame the info down. Especially at first, you can get overwhelmed easily with all that is available these days. 6) Allow for some time for "Home Ec" lessons as your home will be more "lived in". Allow yourself and your kids grace on that end. 7) Take breaks as needed, either during the day or by the day or week as a whole. 8) Ask if another family member or friend is good at a certain subject and wouldn't mind pitching in their knowledge on a certain topic either on a regular basis or from time to time. You and the kids will benefit from someone elses knowledge added to your lesson. I was surprised how much history and science my husband knows! (Geesh. Right when you think you know a guy!) 9) You don't have to go it completely alone. 10) Remind yourself you're new to this, just like newbie public school teachers are new to their position. They are nervous, excited, and seek out advice in their first few yrs too. 11) As long as you care about your kids, actually put forth your best effort, and stay committed , your kids have their best teacher...you. I wish you all the best. Good luck!!!
It's been good to listen to you today, we are set to start our first year of home school next week - your grounded way of thinking is inspiring and encouraging.
love how you let the kids lead the scripture time! thanks so much for sharing, i'm a newbie and i love seeing other channels like yours! your doing a great job!
Thank you for your videos. We are considering taking the homeschool plunge in a year or so. I have 4 kiddos too, 1 will continue in school, but the other 3 will be homeschooled. I'm so anxious about giving each 1:1 time, but seeing how you organize your day, makes it feel more feasible. My kiddos are 7,5, and 2 and also I have a 9-year-old (but she will be in school). The toddler may be challenging.
Before I homeschooled it did seem overwhelming and almost impossible. I was like "how do people do this?!", but once I was actually DOING IT i realized it is super easy as long as you stay planned and organized. Preparation makes all the difference. Prepare and you will do great!
I just stumbled upon your channel, loving your homeschool room! I would love to hear about how you lesson plan. I'm really type A with my planning and enjoy seeing how everyone else does it too! I also like to see curriculum videos, what you're using and what you think of it, what you might change for next year. Looking forward to more videos!
So love how you share your passion about HS! We love it too ... God truly intended it this way. I truly learned so much this year and one thing is not to take brakes with public school time. Thanks for sharing !
I want to be you when I grow up. 😉 Your schedule and methods are exactly what I hope to implement. Thank you for the inspiration! What history and geography curricula do you use?
you are welcome! History and Geography are actually the curriculums I am struggling to find... I have come across some great ones but in the end I find that none of them meet my exact vision for my family. So, right now I am creating my own early American history curricula using historical fiction novels for read alouds and individual reading, my own LDS church history, journals from my ancestors who came across the plains, gathering maps, scheduling field trips walking the Oregon Trail, and we will journal it all. I am hoping at the end of the 2018 school year my kids hearts will be forever changed when they pledge allegiance to our Sacred American Flag and they will have the desire to defend our God inspired Constitution!
Thank you for a wonderful video, may God bless you and your family on this homeschooling journey. How do you take care of your home while you also homeschool. Do your kids always want to learn?
good questions! for the home it seems to always workout, the kids help, I clean and my husband chips on on Saturdays. And yes, my kids always want to learn, as long as they have something fun and exciting to look forward to!
i am about to start my first year of homeschooling with my daughter for 1st grade..she will go to a homeschool academy one day a week..this video is super interesting to me but also i found it overwhelming bc this is so much planning and preperation..i love a schedule but am not a good planner
Do you keep Record for what your kids have learned? I have to keep records to show my son's father what he is learning when we start homeschooling soon after we move in to new house.
I do have all their work in folders and records of everything in my planners. Whenever I get down on myself I go back and look at all that we have learned and I am ALWAYS uplifted and inspired to keep going forward!
That is great. 😀 i got a Dr. Seuss Lesson planner to put stuff in so I can show he dad what he learning and how ABA therapy is going when my son starts that.
KJ M, When I first started homeschooling, I just wrote down on lined paper each subject and a note of topic, page numbers, etc. Just a very brief overview to get the point. Then, I ended up typing a form so I could just fill in the blanks each day. Some days I forget to fill one out, but that's ok. I can go back and put most down by using the date on the worksheet, etc. and jarring my memory. I am one that keeps every single paper and thing we do in either a plastic or cardboard box, "just in case" a governmental school rep needs to see what we've been doing, we need to review, or if I forget if or when we covered a particular topic. Some people put a sample portfolio together at the end of the year with sample work from the beginning, middle, and end of their school year, then toss the rest. If you're in any custody type battle, I would HIGHLY suggest to keep it ALL in a box or two. Include pics of your kiddo(s) actually doing some school work and projects. Pics are a big help when trying to verify your kids are actually doing the work. If you think your local government would ask for it, then keep it all too. It just depends on your particular situation. The lesson plans are good to add as well. My form I fill out is the stuff we ACTUALLY get done that day. The lesson PLANS are my goals. We may or may not get to the day I have scheduled. I hope this helps. Good luck.
I want to pull my five-year-old out of public schools what is my first steps is there any legal steps that I have to make do I just stop sending him an alert the school that I will be homeschooling what should I do thank you
the first thing I did was google "Oregon homeschool laws", and that pointed me in the right direction with what I needed to do. I suggest doing that for your state/ country!
Hello! I follow your channel since a few days. There are lots of similarities between your girl and mine. We homeschooled since 2011. I am looking for a penpal for my girl. we are a french family, we learn english...Do you think about having a penpal, by mail.Thank you for sharing your homeschool way.
Indeed! I think, I should take a social network, like facebook, to give you my Email first and then my post address. Tell me if you agree. Thank you for your answer.
Do you just read the Old Testament straight or have you found a guide you like. I’m trying to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t include the seminary manual :) for my 2nd and 3rd grader
For Old Testament we followed a curriculum because it can be overwhelming for littles ones and even adults! www.bookofmormondiscovery.com/oldtestament.html For the book of mormon we use the same curriculum to guide us but we read the book of mormon straight through, every word
And the other side of my favorite. I will have a good day. the other day and age. you can also be used, and the other hand. it was up. I have a lot of fun. the only one that I am going through a series of events. the first to write you a lot of fun. the only
Your smile and enthusiasm is so infectious!!! I bet your kids love it because you're so excited about it. Blessings on your amazing journey!

MonsonSchoolhouse, I love this comment. Thank you for your bright faith and testimony!!!
Love your energy about homeschooling! I took notes on your schedule I really like it. I love the "flexible Fridays" I already have it a name lol 😄
I'm very structured, too! Totally get it!!
I'm happy to see another LDS homeschooler on TH-cam. We are in the PNW too!

This is my 1st year to for my 1st grader.
I'm browsing old videos and came across your comment. So how's the first year going?
i recently bought my daughter a preschool book at bjs. Bjs sells great book.
what made you want to transition from public school to homeschooling?
Great video!
Keep making videos please. Love it!
YOu are so sweet! Thank you for being super nice and motivating. Have a wonderful week!

Why did you decide to homeschool?
I want to pull my five-year-old out of public schools what is my first steps is there any legal steps that I have to make do I just stop sending him an alert the school that I will be homeschooling what should I do thank you
the first thing I did was google "Oregon homeschool laws", and that pointed me in the right direction with what I needed to do. I suggest doing that for your state/ country!
Do you have a list of the words you use for your word of the day?
I use Wordly Wise 6 for everyone. The words are great for my 9 yr old boys and 11 yr old girl
So school is from 9am to 2pm? That's like the hours for public schools...? Confused.
Hello! I follow your channel since a few days. There are lots of similarities between your girl and mine. We homeschooled since 2011. the pen pal sounds so fun!

yes God has given you wisdom . i can see why you want to change and teach you your kids because in public schools kids don't learn about God .
Do you just read the Old Testament straight or have you found a guide you like. I’m trying to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t include the seminary manual :) for my 2nd and 3rd grader

I don’t see dad in the videos so I’m guessing he is working or camera shy.
ha! YES! He hides when I take videos. silly man ;)
