    Good video! Everyone needs their FIRST BREAK or first video on YOU TUBE! You hit a "niche" (Maschine and Logic 10.5 integration) that hadn't been examined yet over the 1st week of 10.5. So kudos for being first. Now wait and watch everybody else on You Tube copy your hard work! (the downside of going first!) But thumbs up!

    A few more things I would mention: (1) Obviously save the Logic session as a template (e.g., "Logic 10.5 Maschine Template"); (2) Save the Step Sequencer template as a User Template by opening Pattern Browser and choosing Save Template from the Gear icon (again, I called this "Logic 10.5 Maschine Template"); (3) Save the Maschine Project with the word Template in the file name (again, I used the same name as above, "Logic 10.5 Maschine Template"); and (4) I know you said you don't do this, but ended up creating arrange window tracks for all the Maschine outputs and then taking all of those and the track for the first channel and put them all in a Logic Summing Stack. That way you can create a pattern on the Summing Stack and it still plays everything the way it's supposed to. It also allows you to easily hide all the outputs in the arrange window.

    I have to give you props for posting this video. Since I've had the Maschine 2 Software I have never been comfortable with its workflow, so I searched for a video here on TH-cam about using Maschine with Logic's Step Sequencer and was really impressed with how Maschine's Audio & MIDI in & outs can be routed to individual Channel Strips! I'm more accustomed to Logic's workflow so I will save the link to this video so I can watch it a couple times so it clicks in my head! Thanks man!!

    HI Bodhi, This workflow works great for me. Now I need to convert to audio files for each track to be mixed. Might you have insight into how in Logic to convert step sequencer to midi then audio. If you are using drum machine designer this is pretty easy. However, Maschine behaves differently. Once I convert the Maschine region to midi, then Separate by Note pitch, the kick track is duplicated with the midi rather than the midi file being placed in the respective Maschine track. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Great Tutorial. If you were going to use all 16 pads in Maschine for a Drumkit, but wanted a separate group or groups for your instruments, would you just need to do multiple multi-timbral Maschine instances? I'm guessing Maschine is a pretty resource-intensive plugin to drop in multiple times. Then again, I guess now that Live Grid is a thing, I may not even need to do that anymore for my instances.

    • @bodhibeats8257
      @bodhibeats8257  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are different ways you can handle this, but my suggestion would be to just create a stereo instance for each instrument. That's the way that's worked out best for me. Another option is to get your pattern together in Maschine and then just export the audio to an audio track in Logic. That way is much lighter on the CPU. Maybe this kind of thing can be my next video. :)
      Also, with Logic 10.5's Quick Sampler, I think I'll be moving away from Maschine somewhat for sample chopping and chromatic playing of samples - that can be handled pretty well in Quick Sampler. Although, I'll miss the fun of chopping on the Maschine hardware. We'll see. Not quite sure how I'll go forward with this. Logic 1.05 has given me a lot to re-consider!

      You definitely can use Maschine to play in your sequences with Logic, but this tutorial was specifically about how to step-sequence. I don’t use Logic anymore, so I’m no longer the best person to ask but I’m sure if you keep searching TH-cam you’ll find some good tutorials on recording MIDI into logic from Maschine (hint: start with SHIFT-MIDI). 😁

    • @bodhibeats8257

      There’s no way to go from Maschine MIDI to the Logic step sequencer. You can drag the MIDI from Maschine to your Logic track, but it will end up as a regular MIDI region, not a step sequencer region.

    • @ThunderPorpoise
      @ThunderPorpoise 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same thing. But ultimately, I just decided to use Logic's new Live Grid for melodic content. You could use it for something other than drums. But then you can't switch on the Drumkit setting on the Group like he showed in the video. So that means you'd be using one instance of Maschine for Drums. And then a whole additional instance of Maschine for melodic stuff. Seems like that would be overkill, given that 10.5 gives us the Live Grid. I ended up using the Logic Remote app on my iPad for Cell/Scene switching in LiveGrid. I think iPhone works too. Unfortunately, they don't have Logic Remote app for Android.

    • @bodhibeats8257
      @bodhibeats8257  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thunder covered most of what I would have said! I usually have my drums in one Maschine instance set up this way, and then additional Maschine instances on tracks for samples and chopping, etc. But with Logic 10.5’s new Quick Sampler, I may be moving away from Maschine for those melodic sampled instruments.

    Hey Bodhiiii. Finallllly got around to setting this up. Everything works perfectly BUT when I hit record in logic with the maschine track on record monitor nothing happens. I thought this would enable anything you are doing on maschine to hit the timeline. Funnily enough the audio does come through on all the individual channels but noting recorded on the timeline. When I use the step repeater it does happen on the track. Any ideas?

  • @es0terra

    Hey Bhodi... I know this video is years old, but its one of the best I've seen so far. Hopefully you can answer my question: When I set all my notes for the 16 trackes (C2 through D#3) and then click on the step sequencer to make a beat, I am not getting any sounds playing back. I have turned off both midi out and midi in buttons in the menu bar above the Logic step sequencer, per your pro tip guidance. Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong? Also, when I go to change out a kit in the maschine plugin, all of the midi setup that I have done in the Maschine plugin (drumkit, host, ext 1016), resets and I have to reenter it all back in again, EVEN though I have saved as a template in Maschine Plugin.

    • @bodhibeats8257
      @bodhibeats8257  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chris! I’m afraid I don’t use Logic anymore, so I’m not too sure on the first part of your question. On the second part: you very likely have the “Routing” button checked at the bottom left of the Maschine window. This setting loads the routing from whatever kit you are opening when you open it - killing all the routing work you’ve done. Just click to deselect that button and you should be able to load kits without each one destroying your routing! Hope this helps, so I’m not so up on Logic anymore. Switched to Ableton a couple years back. 😁

    Thanks for this. Such a concise, clear video. Question: let's say I did want to create a Track Stack for the individual Maschine outputs. Is there any way to get the step sequencer to send notes to the individual Aux channels? So for example note C2 goes to the track hosting the plugin, C#2 goes to Aux 2, D2 goes to Aux 3, etc.?
    Right now it's looking like it only sends MIDI out to the track you've got the pattern cell on. So if I am using a pattern cell at the Track Stack level, it only sends notes to the track where the pattern cell is playing.

    • @matt-marque
      @matt-marque 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @bodhibeats8257
      @bodhibeats8257  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've done that without issues. No problem just dragging regions back and forth between the Live Loops and Arrangement views. What snags are you hitting? Maybe I can help. :)

    • @wetbar624
      @wetbar624 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I drag the regions into the live loops page, the top cell (usually my kick) plays fine and lower cells play fine but only for one cycle. Then the kick plays fine and each activated cell shows a midi note on at full velocity on beat one of the new cycle - weird right? Ive had my maschine set up like yours for a long time and can arrange in the arrange window perfectly and was super excited about recording live loops but I can’t get beyond this obstacle - NI say they’re fixing some plugins (massive X, etc) but have not mentioned Maschine - yours works great, right? Interesting

    • @bodhibeats8257
      @bodhibeats8257  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wetbar624 So I usually record all my drum MIDI in only one track (not individual tracks for each instrument (kick/snare/etc). BUT, I just tried the way you're doing it - with separate MIDI regions for each track and I see the exact same super weird behavior as you - it only plays for one cycle on every track except the first one. SUPER weird. Definitely seems like a Logic bug to me.NI has some issues to work out (I'm annoying that Replika is crashing), but I think this one's on Apple.
      All that said, it does work fine if you use "Drumkit" mode in Maschine (like I described in the video) and record your pattern into just the one track for all elements, instead of each track having it's own, separate MIDI. It's nice to work that way sometimes, though, so I hope they fix this!
