- RC Crawler tire test!!!
We recently picked up these Ottsix Voodoo 2.2 USD Sticky tires, and were really curious how well they performed versus some of the other tires we had laying around.
Competitors:
1) Stock Nitto tires off a RTR vehicle (rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...)
2) Amazon/eBay specials (amzn.to/3eeA66a)
3) Duratrax Deep Woods (amzn.to/3gksEs3)
4) Ottsix USD Sticky (rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...)
We ran these tires through a variety of obstacles, all to discern any difference.
What do you think? Which ones would you run? How could we have done this test differently?

@@RoadsideRC You're welcome Troy, well to be honest to much snow yet i have played in the yard some... i am retired going to be 71 in Apr...Iam only into this hobby about a month i am driving a Danchess Ridgerock a great way to walk in the woods following a RC crawler... soon to upgrade to an Element ecto that i have watched you upgrade that crawls with ease on you personal course in your yard very nice by the way... thank you for the rapid reply... Wow!! I thought the Duratrax wasn’t gonna do as good as it did! Very informative video, and that course is amazing!

@@RoadsideRC all my RCs still have the factory tires,two of my little RCs have cheep tires from Amazon,the big tires on my Danchee RidgeRock from Red cat are pretty awesome I like them alot.

I apologize, I honestly don't remember. This was when they first came out, and they only had one compound.
An interesting tyre test I noted that some situations the vehicle was grounded and that would effect what the tyres will do

After this I will definitely pick up a set of the Duratracks for our scx10 rigs but I really like the Axial BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX 2.2" Tires on the wraith, Yeti, Bomber...

OttSix Stickies (RED) and proline duel foams is what I went with, waiting on my Vitavon 2.2" Beadlocks. Axial Ryft is what I'm running them on.

I have been running the proline tsl xl super swampers on 1.9 beadlocks. But have been eyeing those deepwood tires for a while now. Will thedeepwoods work on beadlocks tho?
Yes. They will work on beadlocks also. They sell them either mounted or unmounted.
Really awesome comparison against different tires ... only thing that would have made it better, if Dad let the young fella have the transmitter and do the test while Dad watched and commentated :)

I have had good luck with them!
Typically, Pro-line Predator compound does seem to have better grip overall though. That is why I have gone to using them mostly.

Tell your assistant he's doing a great job. I'm wondering if the lack of tread down the center is an issue with the Amazon tires causes the grip issue? I'm sure there a theory behind it, but I'm not sold on a a completely empty continuous strip in your contact patch.
That is an interesting theory!
Normal 1:1 tires have grooves, but that is a whole different kind of usage.

I really think the wraith in either spawn or 1.9 is one of the best crawlers out there only because it’s so darn fun to run.
I had a lot of fun with mine!
I wonder it the ottsix would have done better on the smother surfaces if they were washed first. The come coated with a oil based release agent on them from the factory to get em out of the molds. Great video

I'm currently looking for a new set of tyres i use modified ripsaw tyres which seem good but I want to try different thinking losi rock claws or duratrax showdown but open to ideas

I run the Deepwoods myself and love them. I think they are the best crawler tire for the value. Unless you need it to say bfgoodridge for a scale truck I would choose the DW. The come just tires no rims and in 1.9 and 2.2.

Hey Troy! I know this is an older video but was looking for some reviews on the ottsix voodoo klr trail spec tires and can't find a single video on them! Think that's something you might do soon?, I can't believe I can't find a single video on them! They've been out for a while now!

I do wonder if most folks who buy them go for the comp spec. Honestly, it is where I would spend my $$$. I have literally NEVER worn-out a crawler tire. It is starting to be my standard to just purchase the Proline Predator compound because of this.
@@RoadsideRC Yeah comp spec would be the way to go but was curious how these "cheaper" ones were. I was also curious how the trail spec compared to the cheap Amazon KLRs and if it was worth getting the trail specs over the Amazon knock offs. I have a couple sets of the Amazon knock offs and they actually surprised me for $19 a set! I have a few proline predator compound myself (KM3, Hyrax, Super Swampers and Krawlers) they are my go to. I have a few jconcepts as well. You know how it is, though, tires are just one of those things in this hobby I love trying all I can get my hands on lol

I want to order the Voodoos for my Rock Rey for bashing.....they are quite expensive, do I have to go with the ultra-expensive USD Sticky foam or can you recommend me a cheap foam from Amazon or Ali in the right size, Sir?

Honestly, these tires are very heavy and don't have great traction. Not sure they would be the best basher tire.
@@RoadsideRC can you recommend any rough tire (in a similar look as the Voodoo) that you find better? For bashing actually too much grip is not good. Especially for the Rock Rey, it loves to roll over at any chance. The weight would help with the air control......but tell me your opinion
as for your foam recommendation - is'nt the sidewall to low for the Rock Racer-tires?

so i mainly run trails. I want a set of hyrax for when i go into mostly rock. I use mudslingers on the trail and for hill climb.

Have you ever used any of the Voodoo tires? Those are very popular around here for pure rock.
@@RoadsideRC no. my buddies use mostly pitbull rockbeast. I think thats my next set of rock tires. we have a lot of shale and my buddy told me his hyrax in that area, similar built trx4 sport, do not grip well in that spot. It's a HUGE 5 mile long shale beach. we have 3 within an hour of us, all similar size.
The deep woods are all over the place I wonder how good they are
As you saw in this video, I liked them. They did get better (and softer) with time.
That was a very good test video troy, Which tyre would i choose, I actually dont know. The cheap tyres did ok didnt they lol. I think i would have to watch this video 3 or 4 times to be able to make a final choice if i am to be honest. Traxxas trx4 tyres, i really rate them, and i agree about tyres getting better with use dude

I was REALLY curious how the Duratrex would do. Couple guys at the LHS run them and swear by them. I may pick up a set just for the heck of it now. Maybe I'll do a similar vid of some different brands lord knows we have enough laying around. lol

I got to admit when new i didnt like the traxxas tires, but after about 4 hours of use they really changed my mind.
I'm running stock gen8 tires with washed out foams, I wonder how those would compare. I think I'm going to get some metal beadlocks and the deep woods. Btw I watched 100% of the video

We have stock gen 8 tires that we are using on my son's truck. Seem good, but he is looking for an upgrade. Might be those Hyrax tires.

@@RoadsideRC the foams that come with them have a chemical in them that makes them act like a memory foam, really not ideal. If you take then out and wash out that chemical, they don't do too bad

Its kinda not fair as the new tires are bigger more clearance the Amazon were the smallest and did just as good if they were as tall they would of won. Clearance is the biggest problem crawling

I actually disagree that clearance is most important.
My crawlers have all gotten better as they get lower. Center of gravity - both forward/backward & vertically is very important for the performance of a crawler.
Yes, in general 2.2s can have an advantage over 1.9s - but some of these test are simply about traction, not about clearance.
@@RoadsideRC even with stock tires on my trx4 i can crawl over any rock that i don't get hung up on the frame and the video shows just that

Roadside RC I do like mine. And I have tried a fair amount if others including modifying stick canyon trail tires. So far they are the best rock climbers for me....however they do pack up in mud and lose their advantage.
