    I had the pleasure to wear both and after pondering I went for the Aquis 39.5. At that dimension is just perfect. I love the fact is very distinctive design and Oris is working so hard and so good to transform him into a classic. Wearing the 39 is just pure pleasure. And I don't mind the sellita. I think is a great movement that will last forever and that is his purpose. Lasting.

    Both are nice looking watches. I would happily wear either. It boils down to price. I ended up with the Longines simple because I got a deal on a pre owned ceramic 41, black version. I enjoy wearing it and the history behind the name. At the same time I would feel that way with Oris. Good video

    For me, the Oris is a lovely looking watch, well balanced, well executed design but the Longines just feels special when I look at it. Longines gets my vote. Superior movement and wow factor! Also that sub 12mm wrist curving design mmmmmmm.
    Though the real winner is anyone that gets one of these two watches! They both hit the mark, just depends what mark you wanna hit :)

      I agree, if you compare the new Oris aquis with the 5 day power reserve, then it's a no-brainer. Then again, the Oris would be around 2.5X the price. It's all preference. I wish both of them had a tool-less micro adjustment

      Hydroconquest have ridiculous long lug to lug distance over 50 for its normal size case 41mm. Also ridiculously sharp crown guards idk why presige brand like Longines wont fix this issues its not acceptable at this price points.

    • @TheWatchDoggg
      @TheWatchDoggg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Visitor555 you could get the 39mm case size, but I imagine that won't fix the sharp crown issue

    • @K.J.H_
      @K.J.H_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Visitor555 I can see how they might lose a few customers with the long lug to lug. The rubber band version definitely wears smaller without all that metal there and for me it comfortably holds the watch away from the back of my wrist. I could have got away with the 43mm (or the bracelet version) though I did start to notice the guards poking me with the larger 43mm size for some reason. So could be one of those things that is a bit personal to the wearer.
      The crown is a bit fiddley to get out from behind those large guards, so that would be my criticism there. But not a big one for me.

    First- I have this dilemma between these two models (blue dials) for more than a year.. many many thoughts about many things with them, yet basically for me its the size of the crown guards on the Longines - and the quite ordinary dial of the Oris.

    I own both of them, the Longines is a superior piece I believe. The Oris movement, with the open caseback doesn’t really sell it for me however it’s a very nice tool watch without a lot of flash. The Longines bracelet is certainly its weak point with its lack of taper, the Oris has a very hefty appearance on the wrist and a better bracelet but I prefer my hydroconquest on its rubber strap over the summer, it’s got a nice slim look and mine is a white dial version which looks pretty sharp with its earlier version all stainless bezel. Plus the movement in the Longines is running within cosc while the Oris is consistently +15-20 seconds a day. Nice comparison, just stumbled onto your channel and it’s very well put together.

    I prefer the Longines for its form factor. I prefer the lugs to blend into the case, rather that sticking straight out the way Oris and Tissot do them. Just a personal preference, but I like the sleeker styling to the '"lollipop on a strap" look, in part because it makes the bezel less prone to catching on clothing, or on other hazards that like to snag your watch. Not much to chose between them otherwise on specs, but the Longines wins on appearance for me, recognizing that this is a personal preference. I am not sure that the movement in either of these watches is decorated to any significant extent, so the transparent case back on the Oris is not much of a factor for me.

    After doing weeks of grueling searching for the perfect dive watch under $2000, I can say that from a "value for money" prospect, nothing is going to beat the Longines Hydroconquest. The Oris Aquis is amazing in its own right, but I just cannot find myself paying more money to have a worse movement, and worse power reserve, along with the slight downgrade in the sapphire crystal, and a rather flat dial, in comparison to the Longines sunburst blue variant that I am gravitating towards. Overall while the Oris Aquis is amazing value for money at the price point in its own right, the Longines comes out on top by a fair margin for me.

  • @whodeycinbengals
    @whodeycinbengals ปีที่แล้ว +3

    After debating between the two for quite some time, this is what I’ve come up with. As much as I dislike the huge 6,9,12 (and no 3 marker), the ugly crown guards, and the anti reflective on the outside of the crystal, the Longines is still a nice looking watch on rubber strap, especially the grey dialed one. However, the Aquis is a better overall watch. The Aquis has a robust and original design, whereas the Longines case design looks like many other divers out there. The Aquis looks better on wrist and has a symmetrical dial design and while it’s movement loses to Longines in the power reserve category, the Aquis movement beats at 4hz (Longines beats at 3.5). Now while I think that both are solid choices, I ultimately went with the 41.5 mm Aquis with the caliber 400 movement (on bracelet). It should be here in two days and I cannot wait!

But by time and a lot of videos about automatic watches (with me the liking quartz ones more) I decided that my first automates with value performance and quality in between the brands Tissot, Oris, Longines and TagHeuer the most interesting ones were (for me presonally) the Longines HydroConquests. (I am a fan of Rolex submarines but with me not having enough money for byuing Rolexes 😅😭, these remind me of rolexes with their design, the Longines are the winners for me in this case.) I have the blue ceramic version of the Longines and a number of Oris Aquis's all bought from authorised dealers. Love both in terms of the design, however one massive difference to me is the quality of the finishing. Especially around the back and when moving your fingers across the crown guards, the Longines is full of really sharp and cutting edges. Stands out a mile to me and even watches far less in price (e.g. Sumo's) are streets ahead on the finishing. The clasp on the Longines is also poor compared to Oris. Love the Longines styling and specs but it let's itself down badly in these two areas.

    • @MrLeafsta
      @MrLeafsta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In regards to the clasp on the hyrdoconquest I do agree, it is poor. My seiko 5 has a better clasp in terms of finishing. My oris clasp wins hands down but in the end the watches are supposed to be worn and to enjoy for many years to follow, expecially if your diving as both clasp finishes will get battered in the long run.

    I own the Longines Hydroconquest shown here on a black rubber strap. I own an Oris Big Crown Date Pointer with a similar back and display case, and here are some observations. The Longines movement is superior and the power reserve functions well. I can put the HydrConquest down for two days and it still is running when I come back to it. The Longines buckle, at least the one on the rubber strap, is good quality and has micro-adjustments on both ends so you can work it to a good fit. The two-sided AR treated sapphire crystal on the Longines is an underrated strength of the watch. The view through the crystal in any light is clear and sharp, making the deal easy to see and admire. True that it does not have a display caseback, but keep this point in mind: since both watches are automatic, half the view of the movement is covered by the rotor, so you don't really see that much of the movement at any given time. Plus, the Oris movement is not all that interesting to look at. I would not let considerations of display caseback factor into the decision between these two watches. I don't have the Oris Aquis so I can't say for sure that the Longines HydroConquest is better, but I think you get more watch at a better price with the Longines.

  • @jasondavis3715

    I was looking for a green diver and checked out both of these. Holding both and wearing both, I felt the Oris was the clear winner. I understand comparing lume, weight, etc are competition points, but they are kind of irrelevant. I absolutely LOVE my Aquis and found the Hydro to be just "a good" watch. I felt like the Hydro was a consolation prize to the Aquis. I could absolutely see an individual having the exact opposite opinion as me though. This is a great comparison, but to choose the one for you, you really have to wear both. It's really comparing two great pieces and if you're fortunate to be in a position to compare the two, there's really no situation in which you lose. Somewhere down the road, I may still pick up a different color Longine Hyrdo. It's that close.

    I was in one of their shops in Edinburgh recently, the guy argued that the 5KX GMT had a kinetic movement, wouldn't be told otherwise. Spoke over me when I told him he was wrong, I walked out without purchasing. On my only other visit to these guys, I enquired about servicing for my Datejust, they were more interested in where I got it than actually arranging a service. Again I walked out, I'll stick to WOS in the future.

    Disclosure: I own an ORIS Aquis with the Caliber 400. As far as the watches go in this video, I definitely prefer the Longines. I just wish the Hydroconquest had an option without the big Arabic numerals. The Aquis with the older movement is just underwhelming at this point.

      Glad someone else said the same. I brought a Oris on that argument, I’ve dinged the AR coating on a watch before and it looks awful! AR coatings also scratch far too easily, I’d prefer to rock without it every time.

    I was thinking for long time which one would be better and I chosen Longines. This is because of the movement. L888 i much better then also solid sw-200. Although sw-200 is cheaper with servicing and less complicated l888 has better reserve and is thinner

    The Longines for the easy win by far. The only way to describe the Oris is odd looking. Just my opinion, in car terms the Oris is a 1990s Skoda and the Longines is a Golf.

    Until I watched this this video I had never seen one as detailed to consider the differences. After seeing this I have a few comments. The Oris is just a nicer looking watch to me unless you get the Hydroquest with the silicone strap then it looks great. As for the finish on the two I would suggest that there is more mat finish on the hrdroquest that will scratch. The open case back is beautiful but if your really getting it for a diver is the Hydroquest less likely to leak? Now for the major stuff. I have the s-200 movement in my current watch, it’s great but not near as good as the Hydroquest. Now, even though the Longines is wins in brand recognition the Oris will outsell the Hydroquest because it’s VERY popular. Prices for the Oris will be between 1600 and 2000 dollars. You can get the Hydroquest for 1250.00 . Oris looks better yes, but the Hydro is a far better value.

    after they launched the Aquis 400 they finally realise their problem, it is the design not the movement, so they followed up by launching loads of new diver 65, and selling with an even higher price if it is with the cal400

    Do a Longines HydroConquest vs a Tudor as Rolex alternatives. I know many would say the Turdor easily wins, but the Longines actually looks cleaner to me than a Tudor. If people did not know anything about watches or brands, and they put a top Longines, a Tudor together, many would pick the Longines Hydroquest on its clean classic READABLE time aesthetic.

    • @istvantoth7431

      The bracelet is not that bad. I've been wearing a Hydro for little bit more than a year now. Yes, I do miss a push button clasp, but hey... you find almost the exact the same no-nonsence folding clasp on a 3-4 grand worth of Breitling... Longines sells a watch in the world in every ten seconds rumors say. So the mess production of a push-button clasp might be over their budget. Compared to this demand, Oris is really a boutique brand. They can cope on their level.

    • @endlessrage4062

      @@istvantoth7431 yeah that’s a fair comment. To be honest I’m going with my heart so it gonna be a Hydroconquest. It's simple, practical and legible. It might be slightly overbuilt in some areas (like the crown guards), but it is a great example of an everyday GADA watch. The Longines is nice but I think is trying a bit too hard.
