Sounds like you need to put a rack together with some chargers on it then run a recessed plug into the side of the truck. then when you get home just plug it in and all your tools will charge overnight and before you leave in the morning unplug it and you'll never forget your tools again.

That's true, most times i see it is when people order on Amazon. But i have got bad parts from Autozone, one time an alternator was internally shorted out and blew the main fuse as soon as i connected the battery. @glock1inthetop45

So here’s the deal. I’ve watched a lot of your videos. I was cracking up the whole time. I’m a bit of a rookie but I do a lot of good repairs on our vehicles. They often take longer than I plan. But that’s the way it goes sometimes. Loved the step one. Step two….. That was a lot of work. Good job!!!
There are power packs that are big enough to supply household voltage. Ideally you ought to have one in your van that gets charged overnight but then can supply power to your equipment during your work day.
He doesn’t know everything. He knows hoe to look stuff up like a doctor or lawyer. There is no master mechanic. its impossible there’s too much to know.

Hey Matthew, I know I'm 4 weeks to late but the VW jetta's, Golf's and Passat's have a service mode, it'll pull the front end out a few inches and makes servicing stuff like that easier (love the content)
Something to build into your truck, a charging station. You can get a power converter or make it so you can plug into house at night . I would put a large solar panel on top that van to charge all them tools.
For the belt. Do not tighten the thermostat/water pump housing yet. Put the belt on first. It’s easier that way cuz the housing is loose making it installation of the belt easier.
Some water pumps for the VWs com with the housing already assembled. A trick to get that tiny belt on with the housing already on is to turn the crank shaft with one hand while applying pressure to the belt with the other hand. It's annoying but it works.

timing belt water pumps sucks. had to replace my 03 jetta 1.8t unless there was an easier way just to get the pump out of the engine i had to remove the motor mount and lower it to get enough space to get it out.
Reminds me of an old coworker. He got a TDI and the water pump went bad. They quoted him at $1,200 because it had two pumps. He returned it to the dealership. Then proceeded to say, "I don't get why it's plastic." I responded, "planned obsolescence."
Lighter. Cheaper (not for the buyer, but the manufacturer). You make it sound like you think a waterpump never failed before they were plastic. There's only a seal, gasket, impeller, and bearing to fail in a plastic one - the same as a cast metal one, and none of them are fundamentally different to that which would be part of a metal pump.
@@TonyRule most cars have metal. Which in the grand scheme of things. Plastic doesn't hold up to heat cycling like metal. I would say the old "German engineering." But my current car and last one have plastic components that connect the engine cooling hoses. One actually broke on me. Even typing it out reminds me I probably should replace it on my current car. But the part in question was so badly deteriorated from heat cycles it crumbled in my hand. It didn't take much pressure. I actually was trying to replace the coolant overflow tank, because the old one was opaque. Broke a piece off the T and had to replace it. On another note I had two water pumps fail that were metal. First one I think was actually the gasket, not the pump. Second one was cheap aftermarket and not OEM. Both metal and a pain to work on. Placed in the back of the engine required a special tool. After writing this makes me wanna swap out those plastic cooling parts. Cheap insurance. Someone else already changed one to what looks like metal... but not OEM.

the balance shaft belt never really needs to be replaced they are under very little tension. They are also a real pain to remove and the bolt holding it on is reverse thread
This car also has a lot of triple squared bolts big reason why many shops won't work on them got my set online for like 80 bucks has like 6 bits in it buuuuut... has saved me lots of time and head ache doing basic things best 80 I've ever spent
You would notice the timing being off right after starting the engine if that was an issue. He started it and all was well so the belt is fine, usually you should replace the belt too because it gets worn aswell but its not 100% needed and with this case she didnt even need a water pump he was just putting it on becasue she bought it already.
This engine does not have a timing belt. It has a chain. The water pump is driven off the back of the engine via a tiny belt (not timing belt). Common TSI setup.
@@M4sterT3ch Garbage engine? Now don't get me wrong, it's maybe a little over engineered and not as easy to work on as other engines, but my 2012 2.0T engine is bullet proof and my 2015 1.8T has been very reliable to this day. Very fun, responsive, and reliable if treated right.
@speakdino10 Absolutely, it's garbage. Water pumps leak due to premature cam girdle leaks. Turbo waste gate wears out prematurely, causing under boost. PCV valve ruptures causing a loud screeching sound due to air being sucked in the front crank seal. These are all pattern failures, and the list goes on and on. A buddy of mine had 2012 tiguan with the 2.0Turd platform and experienced all of these issues before 100k, plus more. The oil was changed every 5k and the car was not romped on. The final straw was the low oil pressure light coming on due to balance shaft bearing failure at 120k. Repaired several other customer vehicles with same issues. It's a very over-engineered platform that's good for about 60k before all the problems start to occur. Steer clear of VW.
I've done that job before, no room and everything is sharp and wants to cut your hands! I always try to replace that plastic oem junk with metal parts.

Matt, how long did it actually take.....I have a Passat wit the 2.0TSI so basically the same. I am sitting around 86K and looking to get the timing chain done but VWs have never been my wheelhouse. Not as easy as the Accord I just did on my kiddos car.
Done one of these myself recently on a golf, what a pain in the ass having to remove high pressure fuel lines just to get the manifold out, I left the water pump tho and just replaced the gasket and the plastic jointer between the pump and the oil cooler
That pump is not a 12hr job but you should have replaced that intake when you pulled it off they are 100$ and they break all the time I have a 2.0t and an ea888 1.8t jetta so I am super used for ripping these things apart lol
Thank you for confirming my suspicions and resolve to NEVER own a German car! Water Pump on my Toyota Took all of 30 minutes to replace, hardest part was removing the serpentine belt.
I had to rebuild my ex wife's jetta engine. Talk about a shit show. Lol I still have the head bolt socket hanging in my shed that I'll never use again. German engineering is just crap over engineering.

That's why I prefer to supply the parts to my customers, half the time they get the wrong stuff.

Look good! I find for some things, VW's are over engineered nightmares to do that are cakewalks on other brands.

Water pump on VW 2.0 TSI is a complex job, cuz his design engine and then coolers for the turbo and then the electric pump.
Way easier on the 1.8 gotta love those vw's
On a Jetta you can use the seal from the old oil filter on the oil cooler I be done it before
11 hours with 11 coffee breaks. Sometimes you can do it quicker if you know what your doing.
Worked for VW in 2012 did PDI brand new GTI from Germany Water Pump leaked after the Test Drive 🤪..learned stick with Toyota ❤

Put a aircornpressor 🌽 in that truck and get some cheap air tools for back up
