Never blame yourself. It’s all part of it. Don’t screw yourself out money. If she had taken it to a shop it would have been 10 times what you charged. I just replace 4 motor mounts and both cv joints on my sons car for about $600 or so. The shop wanted $1500 per cv joint part not included and it was $400 for each motor mount. That’s why I don’t go to any shop I do everything myself. But you are a blessing to a lot of people. 👍🏻

Not that my opinion is worth much, if anything, but I have gotten into the habit of replacing the brake hose when a caliper fails. The reason behind this is that, because I refuse to not completely know why something fails, I have always captured the brake fluid in a clean container and about 85% of the time a caliper has failed, I have had rubber chunks or powder in the fluid. Followed up by removing the piston on the first 30 or so I replace and found piles of rubber jammed in behind the piston, causing it to stick. Does that mean it is always the hose? Absolutely not. Is it worth it to replace the hose while you are there? 100%, every time. Even at an additional 50-100 dollars, it is worth it to not have another caliper needing to be replaced next month and have a customer satisfied with my work and continue to call me when anything goes wrong. Might not be right for everyone, but it is right for me!
I always wanted to be a mobile mechanic. But man, it's really hard specially here in South America when in every corner you get robbed without a flinch... Great job Man 👍🏻
Your a hell of a mobile mechanic, I’d say 95% of the mechanics in my area (Cincinnati) that aren’t working out of shop are morons and just trying to get peoples money. When inspecting brakes it’s always important to compress calipers before you go to the customer. Also brake the bleeder open if it’s stuck. Sometimes it’s the hose causing it. If calipers moves with open bleeder you know it’s the hose.
You also have to watch for collapsed rubber lines on the caliper. If the bleeder won't come loose I break the line loose. If caliper pushes in its the line. I know Matt knows that but maybe help a viewer. Believe me I have been in your shoes. The many trips are a pain. O'Reillys are great people to deal with.

Thats the life of the mobile mechanic, I feel that struggle. You did everything right aside from not checking both sides, but even then if you visually checked both sides you wouldnt have known the caliper is siezed. In my shop the first thing we do during a brake job is push that piston in after everything has been torn down. You could have spent the time to clean everything and the last thing you did was push that piston in. That would have sucked. You handled it well. lesson learned.
as a mechanic myself, i feel your shame. everybody makes a mistake, its what you do to fix the mistake is what matters, being honest is always the best. you can have a hundred cars where you diagnose the same thing, where its always nothing special. but the one time you skip a step in the diagnosis its always something else! i dont know how this happens but it gets me every damn time!
In the uk our cars have to have a inspection by law to make sure theyre safe. Like seatbelts brakes and so on...also severe RUST! / corrosion on parts like subframe.. that car would be a instant fail its not safe at all. If somone rams it from behind it could crumple and hurt rear passengers
Anytime a car is driven in a rust belt, Change the rubber flex hoses. The crimp rusts up and creates a one way valve effect. Burn up a new set of brakes. I learned the hard way.
What about a mechanic that got "mad" I supplied my own strut, had it overnited to his shop & the threw the strut & bent the mount for the brakeline. Then zip tied the rubber part of the brake hose to the side of the strut thats going up & down in traffic! I hit the brakes hard & my pedal went to the floor. Thats when I pulled the wheel & saw what he did. He raced competition class on the weekend so he was fully aware of what he did. It wasnt a mistake.!🤬

Back in the day I jacked up a 83 cutlass. The jack goes into the rear bumper to work. I jacked it up until I noticed just the rear was coming up. Bye bye car.

Yea, when the pads are written all the way down like that, yikes! I had one where the piston popped all the way out. And instead of buying a new caliper, customer wanted me push it back in (which is not as easy as it sounds 🧐) 🤷🏽♂️ But, lesson learned; good job 👍🏽
Frozen / leaking calipers are always a possibility. That's just brake jobs. I always tell people I could find other issues once I do a full teardown because of the rust and corrosion issues. That vehicle is not safe even after the brakes are done.
"Imagine if the rust came up here". That's how my Escape died. Pothole, shock let go and punched a hole then dug into the tire. You could see the hybrid battery from the outside. These Escapes love to rot.
i had a similar situation, after replacing the caliper brake got hot. turned out the rubber brake hose deteriorated from the inside and acted like a check valve.
if its stuck can you break it free by pressing the brake pedal? if you can get the slide pins out you can most likely clean it up, no? lubricated c-clamp is what i use, i feel like that has more leverage than your thingy
I had a collapsed line one time. It would go back, but not come out. Replace that caliper and still the same thing. To find out the line was collapsed inside the line
I was honestly waiting for you to address the fact that you said they felt like they were sticking while you were looking at them and when you said just brake and rotors I was like awe man ya done goofed lol

@codybertram6122 I had a buddy move from New York he was trying to trade his 2007 Nissan frontier in on a new truck. Body looked straight visually no rust besides rear bumper. He told me no dealerships would take it. I told him to let me check it out I might buy it if it's cheap enough. Holy shit I couldn't believe the undercarriage. Control arms had were just about Bluetooth. I told him as a friend this isn't safe get out of it asap. Mind blowing compared to what we see. And also in my country it's mostly illegal to work on your car on the street unfortunatelly You can get fine from city police if someone snitch you.
Yea, when the pads are written all the way down like that, yikes! I had one where the piston popped all the way out. And instead of buying a new caliper, customer wanted me push it back in (which is not as easy as it sounds 🧐) 🤷🏽♂️
But, lesson learned; good job 👍🏽
Wish I could ride with you and learn to fix cars! I just recently got into car repairs
Not sure how you survived using that chrome socket on an impact 🤣 cool channel bud
Face like gum powder.RUN !
Hahaha
What's up with the lady hiding behind the door?
Next time bring a big C clamp and compress the calipers before removing anything to check if they're stuck.
You're a good man. I hope you didn't eat the expense of the calipers.
At that moment, he knew he 🎉 up lol
i had a similar situation, after replacing the caliper brake got hot. turned out the rubber brake hose deteriorated from the inside and acted like a check valve.
Living in some of that tax payer affordable housing 😂😂
You live in some fancy-ass apartments. Son, you aint seen what a ghetto complex looks like. These are nice as fuck. Go touch concrete!
if its stuck can you break it free by pressing the brake pedal? if you can get the slide pins out you can most likely clean it up, no? lubricated c-clamp is what i use, i feel like that has more leverage than your thingy
I had a collapsed line one time. It would go back, but not come out. Replace that caliper and still the same thing. To find out the line was collapsed inside the line
i wish i had as good of an ear as you so i could tell if i had a rod knock or not 😂 love the vids
the good news is, you know by now. XD
I was honestly waiting for you to address the fact that you said they felt like they were sticking while you were looking at them and when you said just brake and rotors I was like awe man ya done goofed lol
Structural rust. Im so glad i live in an area that surface rust is the worst we see
I live in the rust belt and it blows my mind the amount of people that buy really nice vehicles only for them to rust out in 5-10years. Be glad you don’t have to just cut everything apart with a torch and angle grinder.
Even at the coast the rust is Nothing like the areas that salt and brine roads
@@T6Tarek yup they salt and brine here in Iowa and it isn’t the worst state but it sucks seeing 10year old trucks with the wheel wells bubbling already. I’ve seen cars so rusted that the frame was starting to buckle and the car would bottom out and belly rub over bumps lol
I think the fact you pas on your discount totally makes up for the stuff up mate
I got neighbors above me that stomp all night and day. So when I’m ready to change the tires from winter to summer. My impact is making lots of noise at 7am ;)
I love how you over think and over analyze everything that you do and how you problem solve and try not to make the same mistake again. I'm the same way with things but please don't ever neat yourself up.over some of these things bc I can so see you over thinking and beating yourself up over something that's totally put of your control. You are the best mechanic I have ever seen. You are very good at what you do.
These prices you quote! Wtf! No where near that here in Seattle metro. I’m moving!!!!
That wood 😂
Looks like the same woman that had the buick and thought it had a blown headgasket but wasnt! LOL!😏
supposed to remove cap first to keep from blowing a rubber line thats dry rotted.. whateva.. ur killin it my G. im doin thiis once crypto recovers.. your an inspiration forsure
As a New England technician, i have learned to exercise calipers before quoting the job.
This is what usually happens when i assume.
