Let me give you a tip as a custom vehicle builder. Make a template from either some hardboard, or thin steel, which the vents will sit into perfectly. Then use that hole to mark the bonnet. This way you have checked your hole dimensions, for a proper fit, before cutting the hood. Then once the hood is marked, make a line about 1/32” inside, and cut that out. You then have two options. You can either swage the edges, to allow the vent to sit IN the hood, which certainly is a more pro way, (eliminates any curvature issues that you had) or you can sand the edges back to the first line, and fit the vent.
I love these vents! Looks amazing! You could have shot cherry max rivets to avoid the access holes. You can add more fasteners to close the gaps (don’t cheap out on bits to prevent delam/splintering). I’d recommend titanium rivets since the graphite in carbon fiber is highly corrosive.
Looks good. Nice and evenly spaced. As a professional body tech, you did a damn good job. Only thing I would have done differently is put some 3m or SEM double sided tape on the vents between the bolts. That would help hold them flush and seal them a bit. Takes some 🍒 to just cut up a hood.
Kinda wish I would have done so but gling to add either a bead of silicone or weather stripping to help. But did the best I could and enjoyed the ravage on the car taking an angle grinder to it 😅
From working as a roofer, whenever we would cut anything with an angle grinder we would paint the edges to stop them from rusting (the grinder burns the anti rust coating off) might be worth doing dude so your hood doesn't rust from the inside out!
The aluminum shouldn't rust but the lsdy went through and touched up all the raw Al to make it look better so we have some paint on them. But appreciate you adding it in! 😁😁😁 not a bad tip!

Dude, well done, looks good, I can see why you went that route, I couldn’t do that to mine. I know the cost of a carbon hood is not the cheapest option but here’s why I’d go that route. 1: You can remove it if you sell it and put back on the OEM hood for car sale. 2: And this is just theory and it may not be as big a difference, Heat soak! you are venting to release heat? wouldn’t a carbon (essentially plastic) vs an Alloy hood not retain heat as much eg metal heats up it takes a while to cool down, plastic dosent really hold heat the same way? This is my main reason if wanting to reduce heat soak while Id gone for a complete carbon hood, that’s my theory anyway. Love ya work and it’s still great to see someone cut shit up, that never gets old haha. keep up the awesome work dude, you deserve way more subs🔥🤙
Haha thank you! Nd in theory it wouldn't retain as much heat but it also had the potential to keep it in because the carbon is not absorbing the heat. Like stated earlier I’d use some weather stripping between the hood and vents or even the same “gasket” material used between base plates and the trunk for spoilers. Also I’d use some touch up paint on the raw areas where you cut to prevent any type of corrosion on the hood even though it’s aluminum. Looks solid tho!

How do you protect your engine from the rain with those air vents? Any suggestions? I just picked up the CW carbon fiber style hood for my WRX and I’m concerned with the rain? Should I be concerned?
Takes Cahonas to cut your hood! Yours are bigger than mine 😆. Vents allows heat to escape which I am all for but can allow other stuff to come in, like rain, dust and snow. It’s like a rule 🤔! Trust you enjoy cleaning your engine bay more. Some vents have trays that can be installed to block off rain etc. Perhaps you may want to look into that plus some two sided tape to seal off the vents.

Have you seen any positive change in intake temperature dude?
Saw a decrease of around 4* on IATs under normal driving conditions
Do they sell matching rain guards for these apr vents ?
Unfortunately no 😢
What about rain and washing the car 🚗??
The vents are placed so the water goes between the frame rain and engine 🙏
Doing this exact thing on my S209 hood 😈 but kept my oem one I got a different oem from local. Literally buying those vents too, this made me pull the final trigger. 10/10. I’ll be doing a little custom paint on this hood too, why not?
Worth it! They look so good 🔥 definitely would suggest using a dremel rather than an angle grinder 😅
Waited 5 months they couldn’t fulfil order, got a 17 wrx limited n built it more, so re ordering these and doing it instead of 4k on a varus hood. Do you know if you need to use rain treys for this?
Sti
I’ve been looking for those exact hood vents and I can’t find them anywhere do you know where I could buy some the link in your description says it’s all out and I don’t want to buy other ones because I don’t want to get the wrong ones
They've been out of stock since I've bought them 🙃 i think they're made to order now 😢
what would you do about the water?
They drain between the engine and frame rail 🙏
Did you cut open the fender vents as well?
Which fender vents 👀
@@Smeedia the front vents right behind the wheel well. Under the STi badge. I cut mine open and got the compressive tuning fender vents. I figured their design would force more air through versus grimmspeed and perrins offerings. I used a obd scantool to monitor AIT and noticed a huge difference in traffic and highway speed temps. Well with in 4 degrees of ambient temps
Can you link them for me? Interested in doing a set now

Be sure to cut the fender vents as well. The next step would be to drill into the actual sheet metal which I have yet to do. Simply cutting the plastic made a difference. I also painted mine cherry blossom.
What's the paint code on those newer subis? Want to paint mine that colour.
Not sure on thr code but its WRB (World Rally Blue) same one they've been using in the US since 2002 😁😁
@@Smeedia oh wow I didnt realise they were still using the same paint variant. Do they have tags in the engine bay showing paint and trim code in America? Sometimes inside of door shuts.
Thr color code should be on the sticker inside of the door frame 😁
A thick bead of black silicone =good !
Not a bad idea, going to end up doing that now 😅
@@Smeedia I'll bet black silicone will become a main staple in you're garage ! It is in mine , it's extremely tough too !
Are you going to seal the gaps with anything?
Either weather seal or some sealant 😁
@@Smeedia i figured just wanted to see what you would use. Thank you! It looks pretty sick! Very excited about your dyno video
What’s the length and width of this vent ?
I beilive 6" wide by 20" long
What place did you order the vents from ?
Rallysportdirect.com 🙏
Thank you! 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Looks amazing brother. You’ve inspired me to do this myself.
Thank you! And just take your time when making the cuts 😁😁😁
Would these look good on a 2002 subie
I think so 🙌🔥
