I bought the previous model and I am happy with it so far. To give people who want to buy it some things to think about, here are some thought: 1. Laptop does get loud, in some office environments I wish I could have it on Performance mode and not be bothered by the sound, but usually I have to stick to silent mode. 2. Performance is great, designwork, 3D software and video editting have been fluid so far and gaming is also very good (although you will be hearing the fans a lot without headphones). 3. Laptop gets a tad hot, which is only understandable because it's so thin and light. 4. Great design but it does get dirty easily and I'm a tiny bit concerned about the sturdyness of the laptop for the future. Hope this helps people who are thinking of buying an M16 :) I'd say it's a very good machine if you're looking for an allround creative and gaming laptop that is super light and portable, with the addition that you will have to deal with some fan-noise and cleaning your laptop every now and then.
@@xi8918 yes it collects grease/fingerprints quite fast. So far it's been easy to clean but something to take into account. I do like the feel of the material but I would prefer something that stays and looks clean 😉
@@NielsDielen Yes, I think the metallic surface is much better than rubber. My current laptop is already 5-6 years old but because its chassis is aluminum so it's very easy to clean and almost doesn't collect any fingerprints at all.
Someone over at asus or intel thought it was appropriate to bump the base 3060 price from 1999$ CAD last year to 2499$ CAD this year. I can’t tell if its greed or delusion. This thing wasn’t worth 1999$ CAD last year its not worth 500$ more this year. They already started pushing sales on it at 2199$ but still too much.
Reach out to ASUS support to find out if they increased the wattage of the cards. $500 seems excessive either way. You should be able to buy the last gen at most retailers and Amazon if you look

@@akshay5569 yes, M16 has a poor battery life than G15 or G14. But if you need to play some games, you are ever connected to your socket, and is good to have the best powerfull gaming laptop as M16 is actually.. But if you are looking for portability, you need to see for G15 or G14 (2022 model is all AMD powered, and is a beast) I suggest you to choose for 3060 model at least. I never used laptop with 3050 GPU, I can't say anything about it
I got the 2022 M16 back in March. It's with the 12700h and RTX 3060. I love everything about it except it is quite loud (I feel it is more a little "aggressively cooled" than it is "hot"). An undervolt would help immensely I'm sure although I don't know how to do that for the 12th gen series from Intel. It cools a little bit aggressively too, at stock --- Performance mode it always keeps the CPU and GPU to a maximum of 80 degrees in a 3D Mark Time Spy Stress Test. I would be fine with 85-90 on my CPU so I guess I need to tune the curve a little bit. I find tuning the fan curve more difficult on CPU than the GPU because there's a specific thermal target on the GPU when in manual mode but there's none for the CPU.

Looking at the M16 2022 product page, they have a 0dB technology which essentially means cooling is silent under light loads (Presumably on the default Performance mode --- which I find to be true) with fans totally switched off in Silent mode. I did a 3D Mark TimeSpy stress test on Silent mode and the fans did turn on but it's still very quiet, although I could hear it slightly as a very quiet hum --- not annoying at all, but keep in mind it is a stress test so fans were expected to kick in with the worst-case scenario heavy load. With light tasks though it's inaudible.

I'm hesitating between this one and the razer blade 17 4k (mostly for photo editing en light gaming (age of empires IV , F1 2021,...). For me the display is most important and I also like to work outside (shade) which is ok with my current xps 15 UHD.
@@dirkclaessens1152 the M16 has got an amazing screen. I was also looking at the 2022 Razer Blade 15 & 17 but the prices don't make sense. There's no way they're worth £500+ more spec for spec and that's just the blade 15 --- much higher for the blade 17. They're a little quieter though prob because of the vapor-chamber cooling (I hope M16 2023/2024 gets a vapor chambers since the G14 is already having that transition) and slightly better 1080p webcam over the decent 720p webcam from the M16 and slightly better speakers for the Blade 17. Apart from that I think the blades are overpriced --- it's only worth your while if the slight noise reduction in Max performance matters to you.
Bought the last year's version. The fan noise would be acceptable if it is a 3070Ti. It gives me hard times to upgrade to Windows 11 and seems a clean update is probably the only way even after installed ASUS's official fix. Also found out many others that updated to Windows 11 got issues. Should have get this version.

I try to make decision but it is hard. Asus M16 (2022) 3060 1TB, 16GB DDR5 vs Asus 16x pro (2021) with Ryzen 9 5900HX 3050ti and 32GB DDR4, 1TB. I will use this laptop for studying IT, programming, sometimes video creation. I don't play games, so it will be more laptop for business tasks. For me it is important to run all kind of aplication and have 100% substitute of desktop. Any recomendations?
Thanks für the detailed review! One thing I'd really be interested in is how well it can manage realtime audio processing. I do music productions and the app which tests if a laptop or suited for such a task is the "latencymon app". Is there any chance you can do a test with that (it's a free program you'll find online). Usually a short run for 2-3 minutes will show if there are dropouts or if the laptop is suited for handling real time audio processing. I'd highly appreciate if you could such a test!
I actually considered the M16 until I looked at the price for 32GB ram and 2TB storage which in my country costs RM16k+-. Might go for the 2022 g15 instead as I need the webcam. Hoping it is under RM10k. It would be a major upgrade over my Lenovo legion y520 plus a weight saver.

Malaysia has pretty expensive import taxes for laptops, so not surprising, I also like the M16 alot for the offerings it has, but G15 might be a better choice, cpu performance not as powerful but man the efficiency

Why hasn't anyone spoken of this case, any youtuber too hasn't spoken of it ..... the laptop is one of the best but just that exhaust will wear out the screen like hell......

Hey! i just realized something at 3:39 on the top right of the screen it seems like there is a dead pixel there. I just got my 2022 m16 and there was also a dead pixel almost in the exact spot do you think that might be a issue on some of the screens?? Also I am pretty confused about the ram part you said that some might come with a 16 gig sodimm and 16 gig on board while some might have 8gig sodimm and 8 gig on board can you elaborate on that?? I dont know about the dead pixels but about the RAM, he meant that there are two model variation of this laptop that has either 8gb or 16gb or RAM soldered(means one ram stick not interchangable).
I had one but returned it. It would last two hour tops off battery power with the GPU turned off. I maybe had a defective unit. Great gaming laptop but not good if you want something that’s gonna run off battery.
There are too many compromises and poor choices for a laptop of this cost. I know Apple gets killed for its pricing, but any usb c port on the macbook is thunderbolt. Even without Intel it is thunderbolt. Why can't there be two thunderbolt ports on this device? And the notch on the MBP? This thing has that hideous black plastic all around the screen. The macbook, on the other hand, is all glass except the bottom to provide some cushion and just looks so much more premium. And a micro SD card slot on a 16 inch device that costs over $2,000? I mean that is just a poor choice. How is there enough room for six speakers but not enough for a full size sd card slot? And while we're at it, why not put in an excellent four speaker system instead of a subpar six speaker system? The reason for my criticism is I like this machine; I would buy this machine; i want to buy this machine. There are things that make it stand out from other gaming laptops (especially that display; what awesome display specs it has). But all these other bad choices add up to a point where it's just impossible to justify the purchase. It reminds me of Steve Jobs, what he said about Microsoft once; he said Microsoft just lacks taste. Even if that OS was technically superior, Windows just wasn't tasteful. I understand this is Asus, not Microsoft, but man, it feels like this machine - which could have been the best windows laptop this year (and can we just have a regular metal keyboard deck that hides fingerprints?) - just lacks taste.
I am an MEP engineer in China. I love everything about MBP, but it doesn't support many software like Revit or other professional software. I tried to find a perfect substitute for Mac: Great Screen, speakers, battery, produced quality. XPS and Zephyrus comes in front of me. But as you said, non of them have tast like apple. On many details design and quality, not even close. Sad....

If you KNOW the 12900H CANNOT be underclocked/overclocked... why are you disappointed that these features aren't available... unless you didn't know?? Only the HX verson can be clocked, no?
Even Apple has a full-size SD card now and this thing micro-SD. Really??? Phones used to have those now they're gone. The only use for that SD card slot in the laptop is the ability to use large camera footage from professional camera faster. No professional camera will ever use microSD so why bother putting microSD slot in a laptop? Give us the full size always full size.
I bought a Zephyrus M16 2022 recently.It restarts unexpectedly and i cant find out the reason.I have resetted the laptop but still having the reboot problem.Does anyone face with the same problem?
They didn't have enough space to put an SD card reader instead of the microSD? On a 16" laptop? When 14-13" models can? When the side is 240mm/9.5" and an SD card reader assembly, so reader + often conjoined USB port + logic board/circuitry, takes about 40x50mm (or 1.5x2")? I find it hard to believe. It's more like - we have tons of mSD readers we could get for cheap we can utilise and call this functionality impairment a future-looking feature for the customers living off mSDs of their phones or drones and call it a day type of decision made back at prev gen development stage and the subsequent releases/revisions only utilising same shell/design/parts for the economy of masses to improve profits on units made/sold...

Need help deciding between a good laptop on the go, gaming, and office work (Bluebeam/large pdf files). It's a toss-up between a 2022 G14 6700s and this 2022 M16. Awesome laptop but for 9/10 people that kind of CPU power is just not worth $3300 CDN and for someone like myself, at 60 dB I wouldn't even *want* to use that CPU power. I am however a huge fan of the G15 reviewed earlier this year. Still waiting for that to arrive on Canadian shores.

I agree. AMD is so much better for actually having good efficiency and better battery life in a laptop. Intel machines are essentially desktop replacements in terms of battery life. That’s not good for thinner and lighter laptops…

I've heard that the skin-like finish normally gets very sticky after some years and it collects fingerprints and oil very easily, is that true?

Worth mentioning... the "RJ45" port is 2.5 Gbps ethernet... an important detail missed in the review.
i have the M16 from last year and i really like it. the only downside is the battery life. but other than that, this laptop is excellent.

Does the i7 and i9 version of this laptop have a huge diff?
Bestbuy’s versions are FHD for the i7 and QHD for the i9.
In NL we have it with the 3080ti and 2tb, 32 GB of ddr5 for 2000 euro, so basically 2000 dollar since it’s quite equal nowadays.

You could buy a second hand myvi for that 😂. Its $4k++ for our foreign friends, so its pretty expensive.

I don't seem why there isnt a debate on zephyrus g series exhaust vents design....... the air that's coming out of the laptop hits directly the screen!! Why hasn't anyone spoken of this case, any youtuber too hasn't spoken of it ..... the laptop is one of the best but just that exhaust will wear out the screen like hell......

Hey! i just realized something at 3:39 on the top right of the screen it seems like there is a dead pixel there. I just got my 2022 m16 and there was also a dead pixel almost in the exact spot do you think that might be a issue on some of the screens?? Also I am pretty confused about the ram part you said that some might come with a 16 gig sodimm and 16 gig on board while some might have 8gig sodimm and 8 gig on board can you elaborate on that?? I dont know about the dead pixels but about the RAM, he meant that there are two model variation of this laptop that has either 8gb or 16gb or RAM soldered(means one ram stick not interchangable).

I had one but returned it. It would last two hour tops off battery power with the GPU turned off. I maybe had a defective unit. Great gaming laptop but not good if you want something that’s gonna run off battery.
There are too many compromises and poor choices for a laptop of this cost. I know Apple gets killed for its pricing, but any usb c port on the macbook is thunderbolt. Even without Intel it is thunderbolt. Why can't there be two thunderbolt ports on this device? And the notch on the MBP? This thing has that hideous black plastic all around the screen. The macbook, on the other hand, is all glass except the bottom to provide some cushion and just looks so much more premium. And a micro SD card slot on a 16 inch device that costs over $2,000? I mean that is just a poor choice. How is there enough room for six speakers but not enough for a full size sd card slot? And while we're at it, why not put in an excellent four speaker system instead of a subpar six speaker system? The reason for my criticism is I like this machine; I would buy this machine; i want to buy this machine. There are things that make it stand out from other gaming laptops (especially that display; what awesome display specs it has). But all these other bad choices add up to a point where it's just impossible to justify the purchase. It reminds me of Steve Jobs, what he said about Microsoft once; he said Microsoft just lacks taste. Even if that OS was technically superior, Windows just wasn't tasteful. I understand this is Asus, not Microsoft, but man, it feels like this machine - which could have been the best windows laptop this year (and can we just have a regular metal keyboard deck that hides fingerprints?) - just lacks taste.

I love everything about MBP, but it doesn't support many software like Revit or other professional software.
I tried to find a perfect substitute for Mac: Great Screen, speakers, battery, produced quality.
XPS and Zephyrus comes in front of me.
But as you said, non of them have tast like apple. On many details design and quality, not even close.

The only use for that SD card slot in the laptop is the ability to use large camera footage from professional camera faster. They didn't have enough space to put an SD card reader instead of the microSD? On a 16" laptop? When 14-13" models can? When the side is 240mm/9.5" and an SD card reader assembly, so reader + often conjoined USB port + logic board/circuitry, takes about 40x50mm (or 1.5x2")? I find it hard to believe. It's more like - we have tons of mSD readers we could get for cheap we can utilise and call this functionality impairment a future-looking feature for the customers living off mSDs of their phones or drones and call it a day type of decision made back at prev gen development stage and the subsequent releases/revisions only utilising same shell/design/parts for the economy of masses to improve profits on units made/sold...

Awesome laptop but for 9/10 people that kind of CPU power is just not worth $3300 CDN and for someone like myself, at 60 dB I wouldn't even *want* to use that CPU power. I am however a huge fan of the G15 reviewed earlier this year. Still waiting for that to arrive on Canadian shores.

I agree. AMD is so much better for actually having good efficiency and better battery life in a laptop. Intel machines are essentially desktop replacements in terms of battery life. That’s not good for thinner and lighter laptops…
