Got the M16 a couple of weeks ago and love it. Still looking for posts like this to make me feel comfortable with keeping it and you have done that. Honestly the best compact windows laptop I have ever used. I am super picky, try them all, never keep them, and this one is here to stay.
@@theRadBrad2022 In a real world unplugged scenario using power management effectively you should be able to get 4-6 hours without plugging in. However with USB-C power delivery you can keep it running a lot easier than previous models. I have USB-C bricks in big supply these days and they are much more portable and have made it a non issue.
@@akshay5569 I mean its a compact gaming laptop with an i9 in it. In my opinion the fans are on par with expectations and nothing too crazy. Really doesn't bother me. If you need it to be quiet you can run on silent and it is truly silent. If you start pushing a lot of I/O or gaming they are going to ramp up and stay up. In this class of system its not a matter of "if its loud" its more "how loud can you tolerate" and in this case I personally feel like reviewers have to call out that it gets a little hot and loud but also think its a bit of an overblown point. I mean any 2022 laptop review that showers a system in praise and only dings it for being hot and loud pretty much means its class leading. They are all hot and loud. I had the 6900HS/6700S G14 before this one and it was also hot and loud. I greatly prefer the M16 over it. I have seriously tested and tried about 11 laptops from across the board in the last year and the M16 is the only one (other than maybe the 2021 Legion 5 Pro) where every time I come back to it I appreciate how well its made, how beautiful the screen is, how nice the keyboard and trackpad are, and how portable it is and heat and noise are just the trade offs and in this case the pros far outweigh those cons. Yes, also the fact that they cripple the RAM on the AMD models, to make the intel models perform better in games, where in reality high resolution gaming is all up to the GPU.

I would love to se an M16 with AMD guts. I don't really find justifiable going for Intel just because the extra performance, plus going with AMD grants you way better battery life.
Intel laptops are dogshit, battery life on amd laptops is way better, if u want intel might as well just build a pc before buying a pile of hot garbage
Ok idk if this insight is valuable but I bought the m16 and returned it bc I was tempted to give that AMD reputation performance a shot and got the other. BUT after being spoiled to the M16 full display I had to go back. It just doesn’t feel right to have a bezel at the bottom after gaming on it. I didn’t notice a performance difference my games run great on my M16 at 2k 🤤 I love the laptop and travel with it.
The 6800HS is efficiency behemoth. We are talking 10 hours of battery life. But as usual they gave the AMD dimmer and smaller screen to push sales the other way.
@@BolusTube there are also alder lake laptops with that kind of battery life (i.e. XPS 13 plus w/ IPS panel) those are different designs, but I still think that the dimmer screen is at least part of the beter battery life for g15 vs m16
Got my G15 in December and it was worth the wait. They sold out really fast early last year, and took several months before I saw one in stock. Got it for $1549 plus tax
I purchased the exact model of the M16 you reviewed. I´m an architecture student doing a lot of 3D Rendering and CAD besides my typical gaming. I so much prefer the screen on the M16. Its bigger, brighter and more color accurate. Perfect for me. In all fairness, when spending over 2000 bucks for a laptop, you defenitely should be going 150 bucks more for the m16. Using x16 memory in a 2000+ Laptop is just unforgivable and the performance and screen make this an obvious choice.
@Sachin armoury crate told me on average 75cpu and 65gpu But one time while gaming the cpu reached 95 while still managing 4ghz clockspeeds and gpu 86 while maintaining 1600mhz. I dont know if those thermal ready were accurate however, seen irradicate jumps in the aoury crate software.
Well I am an architect too, and I could imagine M16 is almost perfect laptop for architectural modelling/rendering/CAD/illustration etc, as it has outstanding performance in content creation with great display, which makes it really standouts among other similar model in the market. Although I must admit I only use it mainly for gaming/entertainment, as I don't usually bring my works back home :P

The 3070 TI gets almost double the frames in gaming over the 3060? That's insane. The G15 with 3060 is $1500, but the G15 with a 3070 Ti is $2000, only 32% more expensive.

Just got a 2022 asus M16 after having the 2020 G14 for over 2 years. Glad I did! Unfortunately it's the FHD version (1200p) but love the large display, colors, and it's much much brighter than the old 14. Would've got the G15 but the sale model went out of stock at best by, but the M16 was on sale for the same as I got the old G14 for so not a bad deal at all. ($1,100 from about $1650). One of these days I'll have QHD 🙏
I’m actually getting an M16 later today, I’m trading my PC to a buddy since it fits my personal life better right now. And I’m excited to see how it is :)
I still want this device, but I cannot justify buying the 12900 version just so that I can get 16gb soldered. The 12700H/3060 version seems like the best buy option for me, as I barely play games on PC anymore (i've always been a playstation person), so the only games i'd really play are things like Hollow Knight Silksong when it comes out. But I don't want to give up having a dedicated GPU entirely because it's too useful. Plus the 12700 version presumably has slightly better thermals for normal use & probably slightly better efficiency. The only place I'd notice a difference between matched dual channel memory Vs 8Gb & 16GB is in video editing right? Which i haven't done for years
Like Alienware and Dell, manufacturer gimped AMD version in all fronts. Screen quality, SSD speed, Ram spec even Wi-Fi cards. You really think Asus would save $5 to go with mediatek? lose all good compatibility on routers and bluetooth devices? too many shenanigans happen underneath.
I disagree that 16:9 is better for gaming than 16:10. You do get black bars on the 16:10 display if the game doesn’t support other aspect ratios, but at least you have the better aspect ratio for content creation and web browsing rather than bezels always there. That being said, AMD > Intel in terms of thin and light laptops.
I think that's not really dificult to consider which one you go for between mac or asus. One for work and one for gaming. Yep you can work on the m16 pretty well but carrying a huge charger around is not a good deal. IMO I do not like mac cuz apple profucts are so damn boring
Things I don't like primiarly In this yr G15 though is they gave us very slow ssd 😡 and a lot less brightness display even when we compared to 2021 model! 😔
You should start mentioning if it is HDMI 2.1 or NOT because that would make a lot of difference to people who are buying these as 4k 120hz monitors and TVs will become lot common in the near future. Also in 3 Years there will be 8K TVs. So, during the product lifecycle of these devices, people will get in situations where their current HDMI 2.0 standards won't be good enough. It may seem like a minor change, but its not. HDMI 2.0 is 18GBps while HDMI 2.1 is 48GBps And some laptops have started to come with HDMI2.1 while some do not even from same brand, so it is confusing when you do not mention it. For example Asus ZenBook Pro Duo has 2.1 while these in the video dont

But the thing is, if you mention, it also incentivizes companies from putting Hdmi 2.1 as more people will start noticing the difference. Otherwise, most people will not even know about this. I choosed G15 with AMD R7 6800HS 3070 TI 240hz WQHD Display, just because i wanted a laptop with more mobility (Battery Life, Since i already got a 3090 Desktop at home) Really happy about the display. Hopefully it holds longer :D

For the $150 difference, I would choose m16 for significantly better display and a more powerful cpu. Batter life is not significantly different for the 2022 model.

Hey regards to the 2022 Razer Blade 17 speaker comparison, have you done a youtube short or something comparing them to like a MacBook pro speakers. If you have I certainly can't find it, but if you haven't it's completely fine.
The m16 (3050ti) in my experience on Apex Legends has been really inconsistent in FPS. This was my first PC (laptop) and is definitely really good especially the screen. It's just not good if you play competitive in tournaments and what not as your frames might be inconsistent. I play on all low settings (and two things in mid settings)

@@pableins6106 full brightness, 165hz and non-eco mode last 4-5 hours. With eco mode and 80% of brightness around 6-7 hours. I was owner of asus zephyrus s15 with intel processor and battery life with intel is 60-70% shorter! I fell in love with AMD because when it is without charger, the laptop behaves as normal laptop, however with intel fans are always on (its very annoying). It terms of gaming for GPU matters much more :)

ROG M16 is way to go. If it's G15, I had rather get the G14. They look identical but the AniMe Matrix on the G14 looks cool and worth buying. G15 is like the mix of the G14 and M16. But I rather take M16 if I want to focus on performance.
Logically speak, AMD is always better fit for laptop as its more efficient for smaller machine, with better battery life. So G15 is always a good choice. But M16 is a beast in content creation this year, no other thin gaming laptop beats its 12th gen i9 intel CPU and superior display.
@@beanbuff6946 G14 is considered good enough, but of course M16 would have even better colour display (for photoshop) and faster rendering time (for Sketchup with plugin rendering such as V-Ray or Enscape). I'd choose G14 for its portability/overall usefulness, and M16 for its colour accurate display/rendering speed.

my laptop boots twicw to start its the zephyrus 2022 rtx 3060 r7 6800. The rog logo appears initially, screen goes blank and then the rog logo reappears and then everything boots normally. What should I do? Is it fine that it boots twice?

I have m16 2021 and my screen has some flicker and jitter while it's on 165hz on some special apps like chrome and vlc player. When I change the refresh rate to 60hz on vlc player it fixes. Could you possibly help me?
Someone please help! I'm about to buy one of these laptops in the next couple of days, I'm trying to buy from Best buy. When I look at the M16, it says that it has an Nvidia GeForce RTX3060. I'm so confused, because everybody who's reviewing the M16 seems to have a RTX 3070. Why is this? Is there something wrong with the one I'm looking at. The exact name of it is listed below. This was in no way a fair comparison. Why not compare a g15 with a 3070ti and 32 GB of ram Instead of the low end base g15? The biggest difference is in the screen of the m16 which is 33% brighter as well as 240mhz vs 160mhz refresh rate.
4:52 doesn't seem like a valid point at all. Noone ever forces you to play any game at 16:10. You can easily switch the in game resolution to 16:9 while still having the full 16:10 area for everything else non-gaming related. Black borders don't seem like huge deal all, just a minor inconvenience, at least it's not a notch. Also, both screens have almost the same width ( ~13.6" ) so even at 16:9 rez on that 16:10 display, the game content is pretty much the same size.
You can’t compare the models from last year to this year the GPUs take less power compared to the ones from this year. The GPUs from the 2022 models the GPU uses 100 W while last years models it takes 80 W so they’re down performing their GPU. you can’t really make a recommendation like that bro they’re not apples to apples

Asus TUF 4800H was crippled by blocking vents in AMD model so that t Intel model looks great.

I lean toward the M16 for three reasons : 1-Better display & bezels 2-Thunderbolts availability 3-Intel is a bit more compatible with Linux.

Like Alienware and Dell, manufacturer gimped AMD version in all fronts. Screen quality, SSD speed, Ram spec even Wi-Fi cards. You really think Asus would save $5 to go with mediatek? lose all good compatibility on routers and bluetooth devices? too many shenanigans happen underneath.
Ideally, I wish you could have compared the G14, G15 and M16. (I guess the S17 is a part of the line up to but that’s not updated just yet.)
I disagree that 16:9 is better for gaming than 16:10. You do get black bars on the 16:10 display if the game doesn’t support other aspect ratios, but at least you have the better aspect ratio for content creation and web browsing rather than bezels always there. That being said, AMD > Intel in terms of thin and light laptops.
In open-world games, the 16:10 is definitely better.
Is it possible to connect the G16 to an external monitor that is 16: 9? or I will have some distortion?

I think that's not really dificult to consider which one you go for between mac or asus. One for work and one for gaming. Yep you can work on the m16 pretty well but carrying a huge charger around is not a good deal. IMO I do not like mac cuz apple profucts are so damn boring
Things I don't like primiarly In this yr G15 though is they gave us very slow ssd 😡 and a lot less brightness display even when we compared to 2021 model! 😔

You should start mentioning if it is HDMI 2.1 or NOT because that would make a lot of difference to people who are buying these as 4k 120hz monitors and TVs will become lot common in the near future. Also in 3 Years there will be 8K TVs. So, during the product lifecycle of these devices, people will get in situations where their current HDMI 2.0 standards won't be good enough. It may seem like a minor change, but its not. HDMI 2.0 is 18GBps while HDMI 2.1 is 48GBps
And some laptops have started to come with HDMI2.1 while some do not even from same brand, so it is confusing when you do not mention it. For example Asus ZenBook Pro Duo has 2.1 while these in the video dont
Quick google search or checking the spec sheet will let you know. But I'll make a mental note to mention it going forward.

But the thing is, if you mention, it also incentivizes companies from putting Hdmi 2.1 as more people will start noticing the difference. Otherwise, most people will not even know about this.

I choosed G15 with AMD R7 6800HS 3070 TI 240hz WQHD Display, just because i wanted a laptop with more mobility (Battery Life, Since i already got a 3090 Desktop at home) Really happy about the display. Hopefully it holds longer :D

For the $150 difference, I would choose m16 for significantly better display and a more powerful cpu. Batter life is not significantly different for the 2022 model.

The m16 (3050ti) in my experience on Apex Legends has been really inconsistent in FPS. This was my first PC (laptop) and is definitely really good especially the screen. It's just not good if you play competitive in tournaments and what not as your frames might be inconsistent. I play on all low settings (and two things in mid settings)

@@pableins6106 full brightness, 165hz and non-eco mode last 4-5 hours. With eco mode and 80% of brightness around 6-7 hours. I was owner of asus zephyrus s15 with intel processor and battery life with intel is 60-70% shorter! I fell in love with AMD because when it is without charger, the laptop behaves as normal laptop, however with intel fans are always on (its very annoying). It terms of gaming for GPU matters much more :)

ROG M16 is way to go. If it's G15, I had rather get the G14. They look identical but the AniMe Matrix on the G14 looks cool and worth buying. G15 is like the mix of the G14 and M16. But I rather take M16 if I want to focus on performance.

Logically speak, AMD is always better fit for laptop as its more efficient for smaller machine, with better battery life. So G15 is always a good choice.

@@beanbuff6946 G14 is considered good enough, but of course M16 would have even better colour display (for photoshop) and faster rendering time (for Sketchup with plugin rendering such as V-Ray or Enscape). I'd choose G14 for its portability/overall usefulness, and M16 for its colour accurate display/rendering speed.

Will playing on 16:10 coming from 16:9 ruin my aim? How can I make up for it in the sensitivity settings? AND. If select a 16:9 aspect ratio on the m16, will video quality be affected since its not native resolution? That´s the only thing that´s creating my big dilema between both laptops.
you get black bars at top and bottom if useing 16:9, sensitivity may need a little dialing when changing resolutions on certain games.

my laptop boots twicw to start its the zephyrus 2022 rtx 3060 r7 6800. The rog logo appears initially, screen goes blank and then the rog logo reappears and then everything boots normally. What should I do? Is it fine that it boots twice?
It's a shame the M16's battery is so lacklustre compared to the G15, otherwise it'd be nearly perfect

I have m16 2021 and my screen has some flicker and jitter while it's on 165hz on some special apps like chrome and vlc player. When I change the refresh rate to 60hz on vlc player it fixes. Could you possibly help me?

Its using PC Marks Modern Office battery test. So its a combination of video conferencing, office 365 type work and idle time.

Someone please help! I'm about to buy one of these laptops in the next couple of days, I'm trying to buy from Best buy. When I look at the M16, it says that it has an Nvidia GeForce RTX3060. I'm so confused, because everybody who's reviewing the M16 seems to have a RTX 3070. Why is this? Is there something wrong with the one I'm looking at. The exact name of it is listed below.

This was in no way a fair comparison. Why not compare a g15 with a 3070ti and 32 GB of ram Instead of the low end base g15? The biggest difference is in the screen of the m16 which is 33% brighter as well as 240mhz vs 160mhz refresh rate.
I like the m16 in terms of specs but it's just not there in terms of design quite yet. Feels/looks a little cheap, but Asus is improving year by year.
4:52 doesn't seem like a valid point at all. Noone ever forces you to play any game at 16:10. You can easily switch the in game resolution to 16:9 while still having the full 16:10 area for everything else non-gaming related. Black borders don't seem like huge deal all, just a minor inconvenience, at least it's not a notch. Also, both screens have almost the same width ( ~13.6" ) so even at 16:9 rez on that 16:10 display, the game content is pretty much the same size.
He’s making a general point that if you’re buying this specifically for gaming then you don’t have much to gain from 16:10.

You can’t compare the models from last year to this year the GPUs take less power compared to the ones from this year. The GPUs from the 2022 models the GPU uses 100 W while last years models it takes 80 W so they’re down performing their GPU. you can’t really make a recommendation like that bro they’re not apples to apples
