I really wanted to like this camera but there seem to be some problems. Also, the non-functioning SD card slot is a deal-breaker for me. I guess some of these things can be addressed with firmware but it's not ready for primetime.
I have 6 Wyze cams including the original WCO. This new cam is a fail and appears it was rushed to market with many flaws. I’ll pass on this one. I was waiting for your review LH. 👍
just bought and mounted this camera. needed it because i had to mount somewhere with no power source, will be buying the solar panel for it though. thanks for awesome review as always! they fixed the sd card with a firmware update. but the about 15 second recording time (no matter what you set it to in settings) still exists which really sucks they need to fix it to whatever you set it to in settings it records to and it would be a good little battery cam. heres to hoping they fix it because i bought it and am hoping i didnt waste my money. if continous recording works with the solar panel attached and doesnt kill the battery every 10 hours i will be happy.
I have 5 v3 cameras and I know what happens when I'm not at home even without a cloud plan. I think that for the price we can't ask for much but for security, which is why we bought these cameras. I think for now they don't work for me since the solar panel is good but it alerts those who want to do something in your house

Can it be hung upside down (and app setting allows 180° rotation)? (To get the spotlight further away from the roof overhang bc when most cam lights light up, the over exposure of the roof overhang makes everything in the main view darker with the light on).

Just got one last month and had some small connectivity issues and others where the camera turned itself off and stopped recording until i had to restart the camera. Continuous recording at 2k on battery lasted about 8hrs before the battery died and then Wyze had some device outage while I was out of town, all other cams reconnected fine except this one and the only fix was to physically troubleshoot. Needless to say this is getting returned. Complete lack of reliability and it being out of service for 19 out of 21 days while out of state is completely unacceptable.
it's a Fail. someone could walk through your yard and be at the house before the notification alerts you. you could be looking in the wrong direction for the intruder.
This camera has the best pictures of all the other cams I have used, but the battery life is only 4 days at best. 😢 So if the camera is not easily assessable you should have soler panels to keep the battery charged.
I ended up ordering a Ring stick up cam battery instead. Only $53 with current discounts and ring protect discount as well. I'll wait for them to improve this camera. My other Wyze v3 cameras are doing great so far.
Yes, this Battery Cam PRO has very high compression and you will see a lot of artifacting compared to other brands and even when compared to other wyze cameras.
Anyone else having problems with the Wyze app lately? More often than not when I open a camera I don't get a live image I have a V3 pancam and although I can control the position from my Pixel 5 the image remains a freezeframe. Also, although I have the cam set to record events it hasn't recorded anything for a while. This has been going on for a few weeks now and restarting cameras, force closing and restarting the app and rebooting the phone doesn't seem to help. Ive done everything short of uninstalling and reinstallin the app. The phone in general works fine
There are numerous aspects that need improvement for this camera... There's a significant journey ahead... Nevertheless, I do appreciate the removable battery feature.

Self-contained battery cameras are just not able to get the job done. What they need is a continuous recording mode, and a solar panel and battery that are big enough to keep the camera on and recording 24/7. Everything seems balanced around preserving battery life and only waking the camera once the PIR/radar triggers. But that's just not how surveillance cameras are supposed to be used. They're supposed to be always on, always watching.
You jumped to the wrong chapter lol.. siren is mostly last in my testing. I always lowered down the volume though in post so that it is not going to be that loud...
Well, on my detection testing, the camera was able to detect me at 40 feet. Also, wyze needs to add at least 10 seconds after motion has stopped to continue recording so as to get the whole motion event.
Great review of a poorly made product. Not surprised that Wyze would push out a half-baked camera to market with all the flaws. I own 3 Wyze cameras that were great when they first came out with the free AI feature. Once they went to subscription based, their cameras are not worth the money even at their cheap prices. I am currently planning on replacing a;ll of my Wyze cameras with a better brand.
Wyze seemingly puts the same camera in different containers. Other companies improve their products, Wyze just repackages the same thing over and over again.
I'm going to give this camera a chance and do some of my own testing because everybody's house and everybody's Wi-Fi and equipment is different all my cameras work great but the same cameras at somebody else's house might work shity you gotta remember it's a battery camera and it's never going to be perfect I have 20 wyze cameras 17 are v3s 1 v3 pan and 2 V1 battery cameras the two battery ones are more for viewing than anything else they're okay they just have no distance and notification is about thirty seconds behind my V3 cameras notifications for all my plug in cameras are three seconds after motion is detected. I do have four battery ring cameras and notification speed is almost instant if the new wyze battery camera can at least match my v3's in detection speed I'll be happy , I was impressed with the audio I know there was some wind but to hear you clear from 40 feet away that's a major improvement ....When I do some testing I'll come back and let you know. Hey LifeHackster, is there any chance you could do reviews on dash cams to find out best for zooming in on number plates at different speeds, because if you cant catch a number plate it could be hard to catch an offender if they dont stop.
I have some here that I need to check out. As to dashcams as long as the offender car is in the field of view of the camera and did hit you, then it went pretty close that any dashcam you have will be able to read the plates...but time of day is a big factor. At night, depending on your headlights, the glare will prevent you from reading plates of cars 5 feet in front of you...
@LifeHackster thanks bud, there are settings in the cam that are changeable, can you tell/show us the best settings they should be on with maximum micro sd storage, higher quality of the video versus length of storage, if you know what I mean. I'm not sure how many people actually read the instructions, but it would make a great video for you.
I got the camera and wow what a disappointment .....the live view takes forever to open up, the notifications take longer to come in than my V1 battery cameras ... The 2k picture was beautiful but the very late notifications is a deal-breaker I will stick with my V3. The V3 picture is crystal clear notifications are two seconds and detection is twice as far it's a no-brainer. I hate to say it but my ring cameras notifications are instant.
Okay so I bought this camera and am disappointed that it doesn't show the correct colors, my V3's are way more accurate to what I see with my eyes. The colors with this camera are very dull, hope Wyze can fix this but given their history they probably won't.
Great Vid ! I purchased one (late spring 20023) and love it. Wish u had made a solar panel mounting vid too ? What I don't like is - The"Live Stream" Lag. Certain Android phones running the latest app version will not handle playback. (Er- code 9) Also no SD card playback, too ! Sadd. Come on Wyze, the Cam is great, the software, is not. Do Better !
This review requires the subscription, without that its not even usable. Its like 12 second video with min 1 min cool down. I hate that they lock basic features behind the subscription. MIght be returning these.
Ashamed most cameras still do 15fps or like 20/24fps. I think 30fps should be minimum. If local storage dont compress as much, if cloud then sure compress. I get the compression in some aspects, but different use cases should yield different video quality. Obviously most people will use the micro sd since they are super cheap
15fps is trash.. sorry wyze you could do better with that 100 million investment you got. The starlight doesnt look good. you should do a review mounting on your driveway and see how long the battery last with cars going by all the time... im glad i waited for this review and i will pass for now on this camera. its need a upgrade right out of the box.

You have to check out video doorbells..they have 4:3 or 1x1 aspect ratios. Regular security cams are usually 16x9.

I’d like to get cameras and a doorbell. Can do wired door bell and some of the cams can be wired and others battery. Suggestions?
Yes, most companies have a mix of wired and battery doorbells and cameras and you can connect them in their app.
Was testing done using the 2.4 or 5 ghz wifi? I'm wondering if using the 5 improves it's performance?
It connected in 5GHz... Truthfully, I'll go with 2.4 GHz in outdoor setups because the signal can go out farther than the 5...

I noticed it stopped recording when you left 30 ft… that is the maximum range of motion.

they said yes and it would last about 24 hrs recording nonstop. so basically just something to get you through a short term power outage

they should give free trial subscription until the firmware update to use SD card, seems like scam it's not enabled by default.

Video quality looks almost the same as from the Outdoor Cam.
Surprised that battery is only 6200maH

The true winner will be with the size of wyze cam v2 and at least 5mp image quality so you can read car plates 15 yards away
