How timely! Just last night I installed a new Ring Stickup to view whole house and yard, and found that it wasn’t picking up motion unless you got close to the camera! Bummer! Today, you gave me the reason, and a solution! Thank you, thank you!
Hi Steve love your channel man.. ... I have a question about do you fee flood light camera...... I have it over my garage and I set up an activity zone. But it doesn't seem to work. Is there anything specifically I should be doing so that the notification works before I in 10 ft of the camera. The activity zone I set up is to the end of my driveway which is only about 40 to 50 ft..... Any help would be appreciated Thanks
Excellent presentation - much appreciated. Re the 5 second clip length, that actually does make sense if there is a high chance that the camera will be discovered, and disabled. It allows the clip to be rapidly sent to the cloud. (I'm assuming the clip has to be cleanly terminated/closed before it is transferred - it's conceivable that this may not always be the case, in which case I'd agree that 5 seconds would be unnecessarily short)
You’re spot on with the logic behind short clips and cloud storage. The key is ensuring your system's settings allow for a clean, immediate upload. For anyone setting up security cameras, always test your upload speeds and cloud integration to avoid potential issues. A quick test can save you from future surprises!
The type of system everyone hopes the cloud based systems are end up more expensive than people are comfortable with. Every third party driven system has security flaws, it’s just going to happen given the scale that these companies are wishing to operate at and the methods that make that scalability possible. Most people want want a system like what ubiquity offers but don’t know it exists, want to stomach the cost, or learn how to set up the hardware and especially the software - mostly cloud key aspect. There’s a cost to how easy, convenient, and affordable the popular cloud based systems are. It’s best to take a nerd dive into how to set up your own system if data privacy is your priority.
This is very informative for someone who has steered clear of security cameras because it seems so overwhelming. Thank you! Something I don't recall being addressed is wifi. I'm assuming at least some of them need to be within range of the wifi? I'll go search other videos, but it was something I was wondering throughout the entire video.
Love your videos. Excellent. My question is "I want to be able to zoom in and see faces and license plates. I purchased several Arlo Ultra 2 4K cameras - however when you zoom in the picture gets very blurry - basically unusable. The features on the camera otherwise are great however in the scenario where a car enters the driveway and I cant see the license plate clearly makes the camera sub-par." Suggestions? Do I need an LPR camera?
I know the person with the long driveway is probably already gone, but a cellular camera with a solar panel, along with a driveway detection device would give them ample time from the entrance of the driveway and then regular wired and/or battery (solar) powered cameras close to the house. Gives them depth of coverage and early detection for the front camera and driveway alarm from like YoLink.
Cellular cameras are way too expensive. A regular solar camera and a mobile WiFi hotspot with a large power bank works great. And you can use several cameras on each hotpot.
I found tried eufy starlight, very unreliable regarding sensing. Plus speaker was crap when you try to talk through camera. The app was clunky. I then tried Arlo. It seemed good until it kept going offline. Had to do hard reset every time. Also couldn’t trigger live feed. Just kept freezing up. Both cameras are unreliable, suffer from different issues. I’m finding the LTE cameras suck.
Excellent video. It was not too basic. I have been searching for days a security system for a motorhome. For it to be practical I would need the cameras to stay on the rig while driving so the mounting system would be critical. Also looking for 24 hour monitoring so I know I need to stay with wired. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I was a bit confused watching this. 5 minutes into this video, He says with Ring, Blink or Nest, you can at least pull up a live view without paying extra. Then immediately afterwards, he says big name companies like ring, Arlo, Nest, & Blink will charge you a monthly subscription fee per camera. At first I thought he contradicted himself. Now, I think he means that those companies charge a subscription fee to access saved/stored footage. Is that right?
Great video. Thank you for the effort. Why would adjusting the re-trigger time be a thing and why isn't 0% gap an option? The camera has one job, ONE Fracking job. If there's something to record....It damn well better record without any gaps 😅
Thank you so much for this. I wish I could find a review that covers c v r cameras with high quality audio recording capability. My main issue is needing to record the audio from a neighbor. Arlo does have 24/7 recording but other reviews reported the audio poor.
What is the major difference between the NVR surveillance system camera brands like Reolink, Hikvision, & Lorex versus cloud based solutions like Ring, Google Nest, Arlo, Eufy & Wyze?

Love your content. Been following your video’s for awhile now. I have the arlo pro 2 4 camera setup with the paid service for about 3 years now Thought it was the best thing ever but one of the cameras corroded inside the housing from being outside and another camera is blinking blue and orange even when I swap to a known good battery or even if it’s plugged in. Tried pushing the sync button. Do you have any suggestions about the blinking . Thanks for your information
I don’t know much about security cameras, but if you say you ran into a problem with corrosion on an outside camera, I could guess it’s possible that the other camera giving you trouble might just need a little TLC with electrical contact cleaner, Small file, medium fine sandpaper… A product like CRC It’s only about five dollars for an 11 ounce can.

Ring has 30 second record time I think? But when you view the camera live I notice it records your live feed for longer as long as you have the camera view open. I counted 3 minutes at one point. Also say the ring stick up camera is stolen but it recorded the person stealing it but I can’t seem to view that “offline” camera’s recorded video? I thought the recorded video footage was automatically saved in the “cloud”? How do you get that footage for an offline camera? I’m assuming it would say offline on the app if it’s stolen? Oh wait you view history right? Just found it now lol. Nevermind
The reason you would want to have a 5 second clip is to receive more updates on intruder. 5 second clip + 10 second retrigger =15 seconds. 30 seconds +10 retrigger= 40 seconds. You can find out where the intruder is every 15 seconds as opposed to 40 seconds. If your child is in their bedroom would you want to know intruder status every 15 seconds or every 40 seconds?More valuable Information you can give the police. The difference between the police stopping by when they get a chance to lights flashing and sirens blaring. Running red lights to save your child. If you are serious about protecting your family do not be cheap on cameras. Get a professionally installed and monitored system. You might not hear the notification on these cheap systems. The fail rate is huge. They might not send a notification. They might not detect. Might go offline etc. Seconds count. What is more important to invest money in as your family security? Spend less elsewhere.
From my experience, if the camera only records on motion it's useless, recording 24/7 provides a much better idea on what is happening. Secondly, if the camera cannot read a license plate after you zoom its not worth the investment. Frankly all these box store camera's offer little value. Unfortunately you get what you pay for, there is a massive difference from these box store camera's and commercial quality.
All These webcams are constantly linked to the cloud and as a result cause excessive use of your data plan. If your plan don’t have unlimited data then be prepared to pay for overages as well as cloud storage plans. Your best bet is to get a NVR camera system that stores your recordings locally.
Well I'd assume these cameras are using the wifi or ethernet which would have unlimited data? Also, it's better to have a camera system that stores locally and cloud at the same time.
Well, you didn't even mention the most important aspect of camera recording. No mention of recording to your own hard drive. You don't HAVE to pay for cloud services...
Steve, you started off by saying you had a customer who asked you what is the best camera to monitor down a long driveway.....You never answered that question. You started talking about random camera features and never addressed the question. The real answer is none of the camera's you spoke about are ideal to capture that type of video.
K. I get I’m dumb. I’m sure I’ll get it once I learn How am I offended I don’t know anything about cameras at all. Lol. I talking through you teaching. ADD or sumthin Ok.

So much information I wish you had more time to present it. I missed so much.
Thank you so much! I love your shirt!!
I'm just as confused as when I started
😂😂😂😂
Ring has 30 second record time I think? But when you view the camera live I notice it records your live feed for longer as long as you have the camera view open. I counted 3 minutes at one point.
Also say the ring stick up camera is stolen but it recorded the person stealing it but I can’t seem to view that “offline” camera’s recorded video? I thought the recorded video footage was automatically saved in the “cloud”? How do you get that footage for an offline camera? I’m assuming it would say offline on the app if it’s stolen?
Oh wait you view history right? Just found it now lol. Nevermind
do you no longer have vivint?
Still got it!
Very good. Thanks :)
Interesting considerations 😊
What is the point of recording the thief when the "law" system refuses to prosecute?
As a 'newbie' to CCTV cameras I need to watch this video a few times; but I learned a few critical things.
Thank. you very much. Well done!
Thanks Steve🎉❤
Thanks 😊
Excellent video
Very informative video.
Very good review
Hey there, I didn't give you a thumbs up nor subscribed but i let some of the ads. play all the way through, hope that helps. Thanks
How come you have not done a review of the Simply Safe camera? 😉
I tested out SimpliSafe in a review for the Reviews.org YT channel. I think i briefly covered their cameras too.
I’ll buy them
🎉always excellent 🎉
With your permission I'd like to link this video on my website.
When my camera detects motion,,i just send the wife outside , no need for subscription 📽📽📽📽👍👍
Your wife is a busy woman. haha
I need an option with no WiFi to watch my cat when I’m away?? Any ideas
Well, you didn't even mention the most important aspect of camera recording. No mention of recording to your own hard drive. You don't HAVE to pay for cloud services...
I just want to monitor my pet when I'm away from home. I hate that so many devices require a subscription.
Thank the Lord for covering my cameras ...
I would take the camera too😅
Steve, you started off by saying you had a customer who asked you what is the best camera to monitor down a long driveway.....You never answered that question. You started talking about random camera features and never addressed the question. The real answer is none of the camera's you spoke about are ideal to capture that type of video.
what about uniview for no sub?
I need help. This is all a puzzle to me
I want one that turns 360 degrees.
I am returning ieGeek it’s disappointing
What about solar? They don’t work on 5G only 2.4
It would be the rang from the router ..5Gh is better but less rang then 2.4Gh
I don’t want to pay for someone to watch Solar and battery is what I need
K. I get I’m dumb. I’m sure I’ll get it once I learn How am I offended I don’t know anything about cameras at all. Lol. I talking through you teaching. ADD or sumthin Ok.
If someone breaks in and steals your camera without cloud then they can take the evidence too.
Hello I have blink cameras they are horrible they stop working at times really noisy you can’t hear what’s going on at night you can’t really see and I’m very unhappy with him I’m going to return them 3 thumps 👇👇👇👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽😡
