Wyze getting rid of the free cloud storage really soured my view of the brand. I've been with them since the original, the cameras of theirs that I own all have grandfathered in free 12 second cloud clips. My next system will probably be a closeted circuit system that I manage myself.
4:42 I would suggest not using Night Vision if you have a little light outside (5-9W LED works). I was the only one on my street that knew a red SUV driver was breaking into cars. Everyone else thought it was "silver". I have V3 cameras.
As far as paid subscription model, it isn't sustainable without one. We learned the hard way with the Wink platform that free just doesn't hold up in the long run.
I have V3 of the Wyze camera and am quite satisfied with it. Both the camera and cloud service and pretty inexpensive. The image quality is good enough to make out faces even at a distance. As for RTSP support I believe you needed to load an alternate firmware to have that feature. Though by using the alternate firmware you would lose some functionality. I didn't really care about RTSP so I stuck with the mainline firmware. I could see upgrading to V4 at some point and place older camera in another part of the house. The cloud service supports up to 99 cameras.
For around $30, the Wyze Cam v4 is hard to beat. It offers 2.5K video quality, color night vision, motion detection, two-way audio, and a built-in siren. You’re getting a lot for the price-more than you’d expect from a camera in this range. No it’s not perfect , but it’s a solid, affordable choice for anyone looking to add basic security without breaking the bank.
I use the docker bridge solution here at home; when I picked up a V4 it didn't work -- I had to update the docker image. But then that resulted in being required to log into the account in a new way (requires a Wyze API key now). But once I got it sorted, it worked great. Integrates easy with Home Assistant as a generic camera. I'm curious how the bridge breaks for others. 🤔
I have 5 Wyze cams v3-OG I like them overall but I wouldn’t rely on the sd card 3 of my cams developed problems writing to the card tried different cards but didn’t help I just subscribed to their service so far no problems other than the occasional problem writing to sd card prompt after a reboot
@dmo848 Is SanDisk no good for these cams? I like Sammy products (Note 20 Ultra currently) I just have a BUNCH of SanDisk SDs bc I shoot alot of drone footage. 🎉
Make sure you buy "endurance SD cards". Tried different brands before and the normal cards don't last that long. Been using the Endurance ones the last 3 years with no issues.
Have my 1st V3s with the spot light add on. Worked well first week or so, but then the one I have covering my drive just stopped. Removed SD, power cycled, tried to factory reset...multiple times.( yes I held the setup button for much longer than 17 seconds ) Bricked. I'm seeing online that it's common and that it's likely a bad FW update. Problem is, I removed that cams original profile from the app so I can't even attempt to backdate it's FW version. Best I can recommend is do NOT update the V3 model past a couple versions back from current. That seems to be where it went sideways. Though front porch cam has gone through exact same updates and setup processes...and just hums along like a Swiss watch and works great! Wyze seems to be curiously contradictive in their product quality..even just within different examples of the same model! Lol..but I'm not scared away from trying future products as any electronic that works largely from a wifi or LTE signal, and it's strength or lack thereof, can be fickle no matter the company. Will likely bump up to a v4 for the driveway cam as they are basically identical in price online now, and it seems to be a markedly refined cam. 🎉 Great video with very helpful insight and feedback for the model my man! Keep up the good work! 🍻
I use v3 cams with the light sockets (2 of them). It works GREAT. Yes, you can configure the light to turn off/on at dawn/dusk. Just be sure to leave the indoor light switch always ON. The paid service is cheap (about $3/mo) but works fine without it. Thumbs up from me as a cheap solution.
Overall great video! I think the Wyze is dong the subscription and SD card in a smart way and helps their business grow as well But I do wish some features were not blocked behind a pay wall!
Does it detect motion when shooting through windows? Reolink cameras do not. Would be handy to place them in places that are more secure, dry, and easier to power.
Im using the wyze og with spotlight on the back of my van i live on and can see it through my Alexa echo show 10 1st gen and i have the pan and scan v2 ontop my dashboard too and everything is going through a cudy p5 5g hotspot router
I have the V.2 & V.3 versions with RTSP and love em. Obviously, without RTSP all future WYZE products are BS to me. Lon. please review/recommend a couple newer security cameras with good RTSP support. Long time subscriber/supporter -great channel -thank you!
Same here. The only reason I have WYZE cameras is for the RTSP and was watching this video to see if I should get the V4. Hopefully he will make a video like you suggest.
@@JasonWade mine works everytime quickly. Sounds like you have a poorly designed Wifi infrastructure. Upgrade your equipment and hire a professional to give you a hand.
Both cameras have quite literally the same lens: F1.6/2.8mm 4mp. This lens is not capable of producing "2.5k Quad Core", or whatever they're saying. The actual video quality on wyze cameras may as well be 360p. You can see it when he is moving, really bad motion blur.
Wyze has a great mission statement but I’ll stick with my gen 1 cameras that still work great. I’m disappointed their sensors didn’t last a year even with multiple purchases

I have at least 20 Wyze cams from the V2 and up ... I have replaced one of them, which was a V2 not rated for outdoor use. Most times people have WiFi issues such as band steering being a main issue.
I have 4 V3s. One died, and I had to replace the power supplies on all of them because they were causing instabilities. (you might want to try that!) They are dirt cheap, but not sure I'd recommend them because of this. They are far from "set and forget".
I do not recommend Wyze cameras, do not be fooled, when you buy this camera you have to pay a monthly fee, because if you do not pay monthly, it will only take photos. especially the Wyze V4.

This the same Wyze that admitted to security breaches of their cloud network?
Yep 13,000 videos and thumbnails apparently exposed but only 1504 users tapped on them.
