I was a Wyze user from day 1. But in the last year the incessant firmware upgrades and the forced use of a subscription if you want to get any actual use out of your camera has killed the Wyze dream. A great startup 10 years ago, a useless much bigger company now. Success has ruined Wyze. Too bad.
At 5:22 I presume - appears to be comparing v3 with no light vrs v4 and all others with their spotlights turned on To me that means the only good one is v3 Here because of current sale on v4 and black color I have been a bit hesitant to mount a bunch of poe or switch over to likes of complete reolink or tapo currently but no person not currently heavily invested in wyze should ever buy wyze. My wyze cam rate failure especially v3 is about 80 percent and my wyze color bulb failure is about 90 percent The wyze 3 will power on and off super fast making a horrid buzzing noise and over heat The wyze white bulbs I have 2 now that have over heated and melted one with black crust indicating fire hot.
Excellent and revealing comparison. Pretty much confirms my thoughts that there isn't much of a difference from version to version. Other than the Audio Improvements for both speaker and microphone.
Dude, super impressed with the quality and consistency of your reviews. You'ved gained a subscriber, nice job! Suprised at how well the OG performs against the others. huge difference on the audio quality with the V4.
Thank you so much! Your videos are my go to 👍 clear, precise easy to follow! Just started purchasing Wyze OG and V4, lamp socket to replace ring and nest. Question, my Aunt has dementia, I want to put Wyze cams at her house. Can they be on my account and in my app even at different addresses? Thank you!
Great test! However there is something I never understand about the alarm feature on this kind of camera: I would like to secure my courtyard with this kind of camera in order to trigger a siren+flash when an intrusion is detected, BUT I want to easily walk in my courtyard without alarm. How to manage this kind of scenario? (without to have to manually disable the alarm in the app...)
This is an awesome product review. What made me select the wyze is a video. A wyze cam was tracking a meteorite in the sky. Thats when I knew it was the cam no questions asked
Great and thorough review! I live in an apartment complex. Could you recommend a setup? The V4 looks and sounds crisp and clear. I am looking to protect my front door and indoors. Thanks for your insight.
Yes, the V4 would be a great setup indoors and for outdoor not unless you can wire it, you can do a camera thru glass window setup and Wyze sells a window mount for this. Search my channel for this setup.
I live in an apartment as well and have two v4's through glass. I have one pointed out the window which views my front door and another pointed out my side window which records my car. I have a V3 pan in the living room area. It's nice to be able to monitor maintenance if they need to come in when I am not home
EXCELLENT review. Just outstanding! The details are great and the visuals are perfect! I have never left a review before here. This gentleman's review deserves notice!
I may have to upgrade to the v4 after watching this review. I’m wondering if you would ever consider doing reviews of in home motion detectors? I know your focus is more on cameras but I know a few people who have been using different brands and some of them seem better than others. Would love to get your thoughts on this! Thank you
I occasionally do it but mostly as a part of a security system setup. A battery powered security camera is also a great option for a motion sensor. If you don't want it to record or film, just cover the lens or set it in the settings. This will eliminate the need to install a separate hub for motion sensors.
Awesome review! For a simple camera being used indoors to watch the kids, which version would you recommend? Do you think the V3 is good enough for that? Thanks!
One thing I was hoping that you would compare is how events are displayed. I know that on some models, if you select the camera in the app, the 'Events' show as little boxes directly under the camera view, but not other cameras. Does that make sense ? Can you clarify how each works ?
V3 vs V4 - the V4 REQUIRES their cloud service to record event video - all you get are still images. The V3 will record video without the cloud. Plus the cloud service has a "5 minute cooldown" - once a video is recorded, another one will not be recorded for 5 minutes. You DO get motion notifications with the V3 without the cloud.
You are helping me a lot in learning about security cameras. I like the v4 but am wondering if it will also work behind glass. Your earlier video regarding windows talked about OG and V3. V4 ok?
I like this kind of review it keeps the comparison in real time to visually compare the footage! I’d like the v4 in a 360 degree option or at least a 4k stationary version
I gotten wyze not too long ago as my first cloud security cam setup and I liked it at first, but the video quality seems to be too poor to capture licenese plate from a higher floor apartment (aiming down the street). Is there a camera system like Wyze, that is much clearer, that you would recommended?
The v4 has best audio and best video its defiantly a improvement ! 30 FPS is good for V4. I wish the made a Battery V4 ! i do not have much outside power .. Still better than Ring or Blink at this Point.. BTW reolink has out the CX810 4K please do a review on that !
So you dont have to subscribe but if you dont (with the v4) will you not get notifications? I just wanna use this at night for keeping an eye on the baby does it have backgroud sound available like consistently playing withiut app playing?
It is understandable why the v3 and V3 pro will be discontinued. I am confident that some of the features from those cameras will be integrated into the OG2, considering the picture is over-saturation on the OG. Furthermore, I hope they will increase the FOV on the V4Pro. Additionally, I anticipate the introduction of a blackout version for the V4 shortly. Maybe a Pan Cam V4 soon or at least a PCv3Pro?😁
I’ve heard an important factor being brought up by someone else. The fact that V4 requires more expensive membership fees. Like you can’t use cam plus light, or something to that fact.

10:05 I'm pretty sure you mean the V4 cam is the only one compatible with WiFi 5 (GHz). Admittedly, I could be wrong but 2.4 and 5 are WAY more prevalent than 6 at this point.
People are asking too much for a $35 camera with all of the features the V4 provides. The V3 Pan is a PTZ camera available to the public for $40 lol. Why would Wyze want to have RTSP cameras? Nobody would use their cloud service and they wouldn't have revenue to continue and make new products . I prefer this to a NVR setup with having to change to whatever new CAT cable comes out and having to run them through the attic. From what I understand 2.4 GHz is better anyways through walls. And don't let these dorks haze you as some Wyze shill because I watch a lot of your videos and you give them valid criticism when it's due. Remember not too long ago security cameras was a rich man's game when you had to result to a cumbersome NVR and business class computer? I have a 256GB card for my 3 V4s and 128GB for my 2 V3s with the CamPlus. The flat USB cords are easy enough to use them outdoors and run them to an indoor outlet through the windows which to me is preferable to a wireless cam that needs recharged and can't handle 24/7 footage. Reddit is really harsh on Wyze, they act like Wyze should have a 4k camera for $40 and even then they'd groan because it's not RTSP. How dare they?
With Nest killing off the dropcams tomorrow I find these videos helpful. The camera's all have come a long way, but the apps are just so bad. The Nest app is simple, good vid quality, scroll through is easy, multicam view, etc.... Now being forced into google home app, not being able view multiple cameras at the same time live, scrolling that is miserable, I am looking for something new. Any recommendations that get near to the old Nest app experience? The Wyze app was ok, but still not very user friendly.
I have the Sd Card for the wyze Og and the play backs on the recordings stop, like if a car drives by it doesn't fully pass and the play back stops with the car still in view. Any tips to fix it?
Everyone always said good things about the OG camera but it looked to be the worst of all the ones you tested and its picture colors were off. I really don't like how quickly Wyze keeps coming out with new cameras. They are trying to get their customers to buy all new cameras all over again. I'll be keeping my V3 cameras until they sell an affordable 4K battery camera with zoom.
My theory on why the v4 only requires a 1A charger is due to Wyze removing the on-device AI capability that is present in the v3 Pro. While it will work with accessories such as the lamp socket - or a secondary camera attached to the floodlight, it will not do person detection without the Cam Plus subscription.
did not know that pro had the onboard recognition. I assume then you get faster notifications of what an object is since it doesn’t send it to the cloud to decipher? Thank you for any clarification.
The OG seems better overall for price to performance, speed, features, etc and I personally think the wyze OG looks better than v3 and is so much faster responding when accessed via app. Although wyze keeps breaking the app as if they never test it in house
V3 wide angle is so much wider. Why the hell did they go and shrink that on V4. That's just stupid. I would upgrade just because of the wider angle. Thank you for the best reviews on all of them. I own them all. Just need to buy a bunch of V4 since they are on sale at costco.
I am always confused by your videos when testing the Wyze cams at night and you have lights coming from the windows inside your house. Why don't you have the lights in your house turned off? What am I missing?
You are missing "reality".. in reality, there are always lights somewhere. This is my setup at my house. All my testing of other cameras have the lights on with the blinds closed. It is still dark but not totally dark.
@@LifeHackster Of course, sometimes stars and a moon are visible, but not always. I am speaking about artificial light obviously. With two of my Wyze cams, unless the motion detection light comes on, they show only black and white. I often watch your videos for years and appreciate the thoroughness of how you do them. I just wondered why it appeared to me you hadn't turned off the lights inside your house where you test cams. I have thought this many times. If that's how you want to do it, so be it, but for me, I always wonder why you do that. My biggest problem with my cams is keeping the cameras online. Recently, I got Starlink, thinking it would solve my cam problems. My house is not large, about 1000 sq.ft. and even a cam about 10 ft. from the modem in the same room still goes off line. I am so disappointed. Currently, I am paying for my old internet and Starlink. Just don't know where to turn.
Wish wyze would fix the livestream issue, i haven't been able to view my livestream on cellular data in over 6 months. Can only view it if im connected to my home wifi. Cameras are basically useless at this point.
I actually have a question regarding the Wyze cameras. I have 13 wyze cameras and pan cams combined and they all work like they’re supposed to when I’m at home on Wi-Fi but when I leave home and I have my iPhone with me which is an iPhone 15 Pro Max and I am on 5G the Wyze app will not load the cameras so I have no way of knowing what’s going on at home when I’m gone with my phone. Another issue I have with the Wyze cameras and app is that even though I am a cam plus customer in the app it keeps asking me to sign up for cam plus which I already have and it won’t let me use some of the features. As I’m sure everyone knows trying to get anything done through Wyze support is futile wyze does not care about their customers. This is a fact that is very obvious when googling customer support and my experiences have not been any better. My question is are the Eufy cameras and App. any better and more dependable than Wyze?
I don't like keeping my cameras online, cameras are way too easy to hack, and also send video feeds back to the spies at the home company. There was a news story on "private home video feeds" being sent back to China over the Internet, without authorization. My current 5 camera system is connected to my router but my router is OFFLINE. So i can view all my cameras locally from my phone (connected to my offline router) if I am within 50 yards of my router, which includes my entire property. Can I use Wize cameras in a similar manner, where I can record motion locally to the SD card, and view live streams locally from within my house without the cameras being online?
It seems they partly promote Wi-Fi 6 and partly don’t… mostly don’t, not even on the box… and it still takes forever to load compared to many other cameras not much more in cost with better or same features. The v4 is better but a long wait for not much of an improvement. Others are leaving Wyze and the price savings behind
Important note: Wyze OG cams will NOT record to sd without an active network connection. The v4 will however. I lost network connectivity one day and missed out on a very important camera recording because of it.
These cameras are great until a burglar uses an easy obtainable wifi jammer rendering the cameras useless whether you have a subscription or not. Unfortunately...
Not really, they record to the micro SD cards inserted on the camera itself which a WIFI or wireless jammer cannot jam. You are not going to get notifications or the footage uploaded to the cloud but it is in the micro SD card.
Clear, concise review of the actual camera operation and features. I don't know why more reviewers can't do it like this. Thank you so much!
I dont know why you cant do one for us as well… nerd.

Same here and I agree, I pulled most of my Wyze and went back to Ring. But I still use Wyze for RTSP (lags like HELL)
Agreed
You can use an SD card and just turn everything to record on SD in settings. Still get motion detection as well as recorded playback. Look up videos
@@supernova8962 you can use wyze docker bridge but it doesn't support the OG

This is a fact that is very obvious when googling customer support and my experiences have not been any better. My question is are the Eufy cameras and App. any better and more dependable than Wyze?
Thank you for this !!!
Good stuff 💯 thank you
I don’t understand why you need a subscription for motion notifications
I don't like keeping my cameras online, cameras are way too easy to hack, and also send video feeds back to the spies at the home company. There was a news story on "private home video feeds" being sent back to China over the Internet, without authorization.
My current 5 camera system is connected to my router but my router is OFFLINE. So i can view all my cameras locally from my phone (connected to my offline router) if I am within 50 yards of my router, which includes my entire property.
Can I use Wize cameras in a similar manner, where I can record motion locally to the SD card, and view live streams locally from within my house without the cameras being online?
Thanks for the video, the v4 definitely looks like a good camera.
At least Wyze is innovating unlike Ring, Nest and Arlo.
I still don't understand the purpose of motion tagging. Well, maybe it is made to be annoying.
My V4 won’t connect 🤦🏽♂️
Just be aware that the V4 is not compatible with Wyze Home Monitoring System with is honestly disappointing. I hope Wyze fixes this.
🤜👏👏👏such a great video
The best Wyze cam is........
Tapo! Hahaha😂
LOL.. that't next...
@@LifeHackster looking forward to it
Important note: Wyze OG cams will NOT record to sd without an active network connection. The v4 will however.
I lost network connectivity one day and missed out on a very important camera recording because of it.
Can you view live feed for free
Yes. It records for free too just install a micro SD card.
@@LifeHackster Can you view the recordings on the sd card without the subscription with the app?
@@octavioriverajr3031 Yes.
The V3 pro is the worst one on all levels
