Absolutely amazing work, Malleo. The commentary is top-notch and really helps communicate the degree of micro-optimization that went in to this run. The Palace Skip may be the most complicated glitch yet discovered in a game. Hats off to the TTYD community!
This is one of my favorite games and i know people say that a lot but this is genuinely the most magical and absorbing experience i had playing this as a child. Everything from the music to even how the badges look is just so memorable. Easily one of Nintendos finest games of all time
Just watched the entire thing. It was amazing, I have waited for this for so long. Thank you for all the amazing TASes of this game. It has been fun to watch.
well, TEC's light has most likely been switched to blue in the Western release because the red light clearly resembles HAL 9000 from Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey". However, unlike HAL, TEC is non-violent, thus choosing a less aggressive color.
I really hope the next TAS is going to be set up like this one, with the commentary and the overlay, both have really helped me understand how other TAS runs work, thanks man
I'm just going to post the approximate splits for each chapter/section here (split ends once Mario is off-screen/entering the chapter unless otherwise stated): Section- Split (Cumulative Time) Prologue-- 13:31.433 (0:13:31.433) Chapter 1- 30:05.100 (0:43:36.533) Chapter 2- 39:30.300 (1:23:06.833)* Chapter 7- 13:39.900 (1:36:46.733) Chapter 3- 17:16.134 (1:55:02.867)** End----------- 27:22.716 (2:22:25.583) I put 583 because each frame is 1/60 of a second, and you can't have a fraction of a frame. *Split ends once Mario disappears in the room prior to the X-Naut Fortress. **Split ends once the curtains for the chapter 8 screen begin to show. 32:07 You don't refuse to give her money. You refuse to RECEIVE money from her. 45:03 In Goombella's tattle log of the X-Yux, she reveals that it is pronounced Cross-Yux, not Ex-Yux. Thus, these guys are Cross-Nauts, not X-Nauts.
That was by far the best commentated run of any kind i have ever watched. You have a great voice for it and did a great job all around. You have a clear talent and also put in the effort to make this truly spectacular. This is the first TTYD run i have ever watched. I have never watched anything related to this game except the palace skip video explanation before this. I can't say enough just how amazing of a job you've done. I can't wait to see more stuff created by you!

This commentary could not be better for a newbie like me. You explain everything-even the story beats! Thank you for giving a proper introduction to this speedrun.
1:25:55 You know... I never realized that the correct path was shown on signs on the back wall. Not once in the many years since I first got the game as a kid. I always just followed the floor tiles themselves - the safe ones are pretty obviously brighter in color. Somehow, despite my being colorblind, following the colors of the tiles was so much easier that I never even bothered to look at the back wall. I hope I'm not the only one who never realized.
To be fair, it would be amazing if a real person did this without saving once. In a TAS, there's no reason why hitting a save block would ever cross anybody's mind.
Man, you have to talk really damn fast. I'm surprised you manage to stay coherent with all that speed! Your dialogue and the questions about the people you never officially met are pretty funny too.

I think I would like to see an All Chapters TAS. It would be interesting to see what kinds of techniques could be developed and/or repurposed for an All Chapters category.
I think this got lost somewhere, so i'll put it again. Would it be faster to take HP on the level-up after bowser? This wouldn't effect shadow queen's second phase, since you could take two attacks while she had the larger hands out.
