It's why I will never stand for any negative words being said about her.
Today 20 years ago Susan Lucci finally won her long awaited Emmy. Her win gave hope to the hopeless and all those who have been on the losing end. It was a rare win that no matter who you were you had to smile - even her rivals and many who felt she was not talented or was being paid to much or jealous of her success and popularity couldn't help but cry, cheer and applaud to the undisputed queen of daytime. An amazing moving speech matched by a shocking standing ovation so rarely seen. Wow. Her speech was just amazing - the bomb. This win had it all - class, beauty, elegance, meaning, drama, poignancy, passion, humanity, excitement and power.
I remember watching this live at a bar in Chicago. I swear, even drunks, homeless people and people that didn't speak English were celebrating that she finally won.
When this happened, my father and twin brother were at an SF Giants game. Midway through the game, they put up an announcement on the scoreboard that Susan had won the Emmy and everyone loudly cheered. That is how monumental this win is.

I grew up watching Susan and her amazing portrayal of Erica and was super stoked when she finally won. It was a very well deserved and long overdue win for a soap opera diva and legend.
I think this was by far the best award winning moment in history and it will probably be the best always because of her reaction of her humbleness of everything I think this was the best
This is one of the greatest moments in the history of any of the award shows. A Wonderful moment that reminds me that the unlikely can eventually happen and there can actually be fairness after injustice so to me it never gets old to watch.
Get a clue, Emmy producers- a daytime legend finally wins her Emmy after 19 nominations and the orchestra starts trying to play her off halfway through a not-very-long speech? Good for Susan to keep going and finish her thank-yous, with the audience firmly on her side.
It was okay...they did that music thing to rush the winner off the stage year after year because the show would start running too long...it was endearing to watch her get the same treatment and then watch the audience demand they give her extra time to finish!
The only soap opera I've ever seen is "One Life to Live" and even with that, this moment makes me cry like a baby. Combine that with how generous Susan Lucci is IRL and you better put respect on Ms. Lucci's name!
She seems to be a very likable person indeed, which is why I suspect the audience is delirious with joy. Even at 00:27 she has the grace to appreciate her escort up the stairs with a thank you nod. She's actually trembling through her tears and you just want to go up there and give her a big hug.
WHEN SHEMAR MOORE SAID THE STREAK IS OVER I JUMPED UP AND DOWN ON MY COUCH.! SO WELL DESERVED. IT'S SO SAD CAUSE SHE JUST RECENTLY LOST HER BELOVED HUSBAND. I LOVE YOU MS LUCCI. XOXO.
Susan Lucci's win at the daytime emmy's was not a daytime emmy moment it was a moment in history. Her winning and her amazing speech and the cheers and applause was huge - on par with the Oscars or any other award . You didn't need to watch her or know her show - this was truly a historic moment. You could tell the love for her from Oprah to her adoring husband to the fans and fellow professionals. I do agree her losing was a ratings bonanza - after she won the ratings plunged and now the daytime emmy's aren't even on tv and certainly not prime time. You need to separate a legendary character and actress. Both are worthy.
I wish they would put the whole All My Children episodes/seasons from when it started till the end on a DVD box set , it would sell a lot & pretty sure it would gain more fans of people who were not born at that time or who miss watching it !
remember that day!!! The show debuted the year I was born (1970).I cried right along with her.She deserved the award for every year that she was nominated. Great actress and a beautiful woman.
FINALLY!!!!!! I don't think she could believe it!!!! Susan, the number 19 is yours!!!! I was crying when she FINALLY WON!!!!!! A long time coming!!! Much love!!!
I was outraged that they piped that music up on her. Come on. 19 years her and the fans have been waiting for this a d it's the highlight of the show. I never even watched all my children. Lol.
I recall that my twin brother and father attended the San Francisco Giants game that evening. Midway through the game, they put up on the scoreboard "BREAKING NEWS: Susan Lucci won her first Daytime Emmy tonight for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series" Per my twin brother, the crowd went wild. I don't even think they cared anymore about the baseball game. LOL!
3:57 The wrap up music started and Susan just kept on going and was like nope I'm going to give this speech till I'm done giving this speech and finally the music stopped.
And in true soap opera style, it stopped at just the right moment to magnify those final words - "I'm going back to that studio on Monday, and I'm gonna play Erica Kane for all she is worth, thank you so very much!" Mic drop!
She could hear Dick Clark over the headsets telling the producers to let her continue. But they kept flashing lights at her to get her to wrap it up. She waiting a long time (too long) for this moment. The fact that they tried to rush her is ridiculous.
If I were a soap actor and I was present, I would've screamed SHE WAITED 19 YEARS, YOU PEOPLE IN THE PRODUCER'S CHAIR CAN WAIT 19 MINUTES. #greatestmomentdaytimeemmyswilleverhave

The eruption of the cheers when she won! Gosh you can compare that to any sports event.
I think this was by far the best award winning moment in history and it will probably be the best always because of her reaction of her humbleness of everything I think this was the best
i didn’t know this woman before today but omg the respect i have for her and the joy i felt watching this
This is one of the greatest moments in the history of any of the award shows. A Wonderful moment that reminds me that the unlikely can eventually happen and there can actually be fairness after injustice so to me it never gets old to watch.
Such an iconic moment. I miss the show so much.
Me too is it just me or does anyone else miss, the soaps as much as I do, to bad they can not do reruns, I would watch😊😊
Met this lovely, classy lady for the first time today and I never get to meet living legends like this woman. What an honour it was!
Get a clue, Emmy producers- a daytime legend finally wins her Emmy after 19 nominations and the orchestra starts trying to play her off halfway through a not-very-long speech? Good for Susan to keep going and finish her thank-yous, with the audience firmly on her side.
Right????? So disrespectful!!!!
@@brentduanefoster Exactly! Let her have her moment!
It was okay...they did that music thing to rush the winner off the stage year after year because the show would start running too long...it was endearing to watch her get the same treatment and then watch the audience demand they give her extra time to finish!
I'll never get tired of watching this. Susan Lucci will always be the queen of daytime tv. ❤️
One of the best Emmy speeches ever!
Susan should also get an Emmy just for the speech 19 years in the making.. she's so amazing.
It was actually more than 19 years because there were 3 years she wasn't nominated.
Her smile as she walked to the microphone 😭. The best acceptance speech of all time. This was LONG overdue. She is such a sweet and gracious lady.
I think, this is one time when everyone in Hollywood is actually happy and not envious or bitchy that someone wins!!! Priceless
Legend has it they’re still clapping for her to this day! Lol
The only soap opera I've ever seen is "One Life to Live" and even with that, this moment makes me cry like a baby. Combine that with how generous Susan Lucci is IRL and you better put respect on Ms. Lucci's name!
Amen!
RIP Helmut. May God give Susan the comfort and strength she needs.
XOXO.
Just goes to prove, nineteenth time's always the charm!
Considering she is unanimously the Meryl Streep of soap operas, it definitely was historic.
Best acceptance speech EVER.
History will repeat itself: Shemar will present Susan with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Daytime Emmys
This is one of the most generous, heartfelt, beautifully phrased acceptance speeches at any awards show, ever.
SIMPLY OUTSTANDING AND SUSAN LUCCI IS BEAUTIFUL 😍😍 LUV THIS WONDERFUL NIGHT FOR THE QUEEN 👍👍🤗🤗❤️
Historic moment in television!!!!!!!
i remmeber my mom jumping up and down for this and im like 9 having no idea what she so happy for, now as an adult i get it 😭😭😭😭
I wish they would put the whole All My Children episodes/seasons from when it started till the end on a DVD box set , it would sell a lot & pretty sure it would gain more fans of people who were not born at that time or who miss watching it !
Yes I would buy it too, to bad they can not do reruns of soaps like, they do everything else😢 am I the only one who misses the soaps, 😂💙💙💯
one of the best moments ever for all of us who watch daytime
Has now officially been 20 years since she won. Time flies! What a great moment and win!
"Never give up, Never surrender!"
She worked long and hard as an actress Susan Lucci long deserve it after nearly 20 years
Can’t stop crying 😭
So awesome - everyone genuinely happy and crying happy tears for her. Just wonderful
Amen she finally got it
It's almost worth losing 19 times just to experience this moment.
The absolutely stunning Susan Lucci!
I remember crying in 1999, when she won. It was her time for too long.
remember that day!!! The show debuted the year I was born (1970).I cried right along with her.She deserved the award for every year that she was nominated. Great actress and a beautiful woman.
💐Definitely a tear jerker!🤩🤗
I remember watching this live. I was so happy you would have thought I had won. All these years later this moment still makes me smile.
Dang, that place erupted like someone just hit a game winning home run.
Lol.
I so remember that night we were all in front of the television her reaction was everything ❤️ she is a absolutely stunning beautiful woman
You knew this was big in the 90's when everyone talked about it in school even if you didn't watch All My Children
I recall that my twin brother and father attended the San Francisco Giants game that evening. Midway through the game, they put up on the scoreboard "BREAKING NEWS: Susan Lucci won her first Daytime Emmy tonight for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series"
Per my twin brother, the crowd went wild. I don't even think they cared anymore about the baseball game. LOL!
Crying while watching this,in 2019
Crying watching this in 2021
2024 and crying too 🥹🥲
3:57 The wrap up music started and Susan just kept on going and was like nope I'm going to give this speech till I'm done giving this speech and finally the music stopped.
No one EVER deserved it more!!!
