I found Bowser's Fury far more fascinating than I had expected to. It is simultaneously strongly a sequel to 3D World (in fact, it is kind of a sequel to a specific item, the cat suit, in 3D World), while also obviously being a spiritual successor to Super Mario Sunshine, as we see with the use of Shines for (I believe) the first time since Sunshine. This video really helps explain in what ways it was a successor to both 3D World and Sunshine at a gameplay level as well!

@@Nickk7878-v8t those were not remasters lmao those were roms running on an emulator. like you said, Bowser's Furry seems to be an appetizer, but the full meal can still arrive soon. I think Bowser's Furry might be like MGSV: Ground Zeroes - a solid, fun, but short experience that transitions a franchise into a more open world format. @@thegreatestdane8978 I agree that sun and moon kinda sucked, one of the more boring games. Although I enjoyed pokemon sword and shield a lot, I think it needs "side areas" to spice up the adventure, something like the dreamyard in b/w or the mansion near the start of x/y. I LOVED the sw/sh DLC, with crown tundra being my fav. Being able to explore a giant wild area with very little other than my curiosity to make me explore was a breath of fresh air from most of the isle of armor's fetch questing. This also solves my issue with "side areas" because if you wander off through the cave for example you just end up at a dead end with the temple for the new regis.
i mean i did have fun with ultra sun but ehhhh not as good as the earlier games it was way too ez i literally only lost one time to ultra necrozma and thats it and that was because i suck ass and im pretty sure the only reason i kept playing postgame was cuz i got wonder traded a mew like it was fun but really the content after the whole ultra necrozma and becoming the champion stuff sucks and before that is all way too easy
I absolutely love your analyses of these games. It‘s amazing to see how many parts come together to create such games and what the intention of Nintendo’s directors was.
The next big step for Mario that could expand things in directions on the RPGs have played with is lore. Rainbow's are a prominent feature in Mario environments and aesthetics, as are mushrooms. What do these two things have in common? They typically show up in warm weather after a period of rain: mushrooms pop up out of the ground under humid conditions. They are the fruiting part of the fungi and serve to spread spores. So such conditions are essentially mating time, which presumably happens whenever the spores of different mushrooms happen to mix. So while our society centers around the Sun, for various philosophical and religious reasons, the mythology of a toadstool society would be based around clouds, rain, and rainbows. Mushrooms also contain psychoactive chemicals that make them "magical." Conveniently, Bowser is associated with fire, and no environmental conditions are worse for mushrooms than aridity. If the world was too wet, it would become flooded like Hyrule in Wind Waker, so there his to be some antagonist force in place to keep things in accord. So Bower's line exists to drain the Mushroom Kingdom of it's water and magic and repurpose it to his own ends. Mario occupies an interesting position because, as a plumper, in order to keep sewers, drainage systems, and the like running, mushrooms would be liable to block pipes, corrode materials, and generally be bad for his business. But at the same time, in Mario's world, mushrooms exhibit sentience. So what I imagine is that a big part of Mario's work would be trying to work out compromises between people and mushrooms. Maybe other plumbers (like Wario) aren't as understanding and exterminate mushrooms as they find them, while Mario is a hero because he always finds them a new home for them even though it makes his work much more difficult. In return, the mushrooms use their magical powers to help Mario. We can take more than few liberties here to suit the purposes of Mario as a game franchise, but that's the general idea. With just a few basic concepts and without any plot, we've established, -- What the Mushroom Kingdom is -- Who Mario is and why he's a hero -- Who Bowser is and why he's evil -- How this all plays into the way Mario games already present themselves All it really takes to expand upon this is to examine each of the different elements and see how they fit into the whole. For example, since Odyssey established that the New York inspired environment Mario comes form is a real place, we can play with the dichotomy of the human and mushroom worlds and how they interact. Does the different worlds result in Mario taking on different personas; Is he known as a different person in the city? Or is he still a hero like he is in the Mushroom Kingdom? Is a person walking down the street going to know, or care, that Mario saved the colony of mushrooms growing under his house that time he called him out for repairs? If not, then Mario effectively has an alter ego as a regular joe in contrast to his wonderful journeys into the magic world of the mushroom kingdom that exists in parallel to the everyday world (an idea that the Super Maro Bros movie went with and completely botched -- but that was mainly because of how little of a relation it bore to the games.)
I am heavily impressed with your fluidity in discussing these topics. It's easy to stumble upon switching to video essay formats after doing previous shot form content, but you've managed to do it a few times now. Well done
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is really a celebration and a culmination of every single mario game, Bowser's Fury adding stuff from Sunshine and Odyssey which was the only thing missing, SM3DW covering the other games with its map structure, star-locked levels, character cast and level design. It's really such a relief to see such an ambitous experiment like this be released!
btw you feel super natural (not supernatural) in front of the camera lately, and im glad youre getting comfy with the new setup. genius analysis as always ceave!
When I first saw Bowser's Fury, I was like "Wait, so it's like Odyssey but with the 3D World engine?" I didn't notice the paradox of that sentence until now.
I think it would be cool if Mario did something similar to Nier: Automata, where there’s open 3D sections, linear 3D sections, and 2D sidescrolling sections, with seamless transitions between each gameplay style.
@@Flymerick If you didn't know, March 31st is when Nintendo is removing core features from Mario Maker on Wii U, including the ability to upload levels and bookmarking levels from the website. It's quite sad because the game is very special to me and I am sure that Ceave can agree with me.

idea: a Mario exploration game but you have a "dimension transporter" where you can take shortcuts by going through new dimensions. The dimensions will be platforming challenges with cool gimmicks (for example in one dimension it could be a platforming challenge, but you can reverse time around you, or maybe a 2d dimension with a small boss battle ) But instead of going through dimensions to take a shortcut the star/ moon / whatever. You also have to option to explore and find it normally like in odyssey. This idea also gives Nintendo to option to have much more unique level designs and adds replayability to the game because you can explore the levels you took the shortcut in and you can take the shortcuts through levels you already explored.
the videos always leave the main point, and then go back to the main point and i love it i love this new style of video, cuz im kinda burnt out on mario maker good vid as always ceave
OH GOSH That's such a good idea!! Combining all genres of Mario! Maybe even more genres will be combined in future, such as Mario Maker and Mario Kart and so forth... 🤔
This really got me thinking about how Nintendo can combine all of the different mario experiences into one game. Imagine if the next Super Mario game features time travel as a gameplay mechanic. Travel back in time to different mario games to gain their abilities. Odyssey gives you the ability to capture enemies with your cap, along with the movement from odyssey. Sunshine gives you the FLUDD to allow you to traverse large obstacles with your increased maneuverability. Travel to one of the older marios to become 2 dimensional. Maybe getting sent back in time to mario 64 would be like having your cap removed in odyssey. With each different era, the entire game could be changed to render in the grapics style of each game. Imagine, one minute you are going through a level with the moden Odyssey movement system, but then a magikoopa hits you with a spell, cursing you to become 2D. The entire level shifts to being a 2D mario game until you receive a powerup to change what era you are in.
The whole 2D and 3D combining concept reminds me of Super Paper Mario. Hopefully people's viewpoints on that game don't hinder Nintendo's willingness to something like you described...

@@bigflx2754 But not only did we get Bowser's Furry, but 4 other 3D Mario game remasters in the span of just a few months. It's giving me the impression that Nintendo's next big Mario game isn't coming for awhile and these are just appetizers.
@@Nickk7878-v8t those were not remasters lmao those were roms running on an emulator. Remember this was an anniversary thing, thats why there was extra Mario, but all the Mario they gave out was low effort. It’s been 3 years since the last new 3dmario. It usually takes 3-4 years for a new 3D Mario. We’re due I don’t think there will be one in 2021 but in 2022 or 2023 for sure we’ll see a new one
like you said, Bowser's Furry seems to be an appetizer, but the full meal can still arrive soon. I think Bowser's Furry might be like MGSV: Ground Zeroes - a solid, fun, but short experience that transitions a franchise into a more open world format. Hopefully, the next Mario game will be like The Phantom Pain - fully openworld, fixing the issues of the Bowser's Fury, and containing a much long and even more enjoyable experience.
edit: i actually watched the video and nevermind lol
@@bigflx2754 I keep on getting in trouble with people on the internet for misusing the words port and remaster. Like with Skyward Sword being a port, when it’s actually a remaster. This terminology is just too much.
i really liked how they did power-ups in fury. every one feels useful for different scenarios and they aren’t impossible or annoying to find and can be stored for whenever is appropriate
I was hoping you would make a video on this game, I'll look forward to watching this.
really really well structured video, love how all the ideas here develop
I think it would be really cool to hear what you think about modern pokemon and how it could improve. Because right now it feels like nobody exept me is able to enjoy pokemon at all.
I enjoy romhacks
I still enjoy it, I just don't think it's as polished as the 2D titles like B2W2 or (in my opinion the most overrated 2D Pokemon) Platinum.
This also solves my issue with "side areas" because if you wander off through the cave for example you just end up at a dead end with the temple for the new regis.
i mean i did have fun with ultra sun but ehhhh
not as good as the earlier games
it was way too ez i literally only lost one time to ultra necrozma and thats it and that was because i suck ass
and im pretty sure the only reason i kept playing postgame was cuz i got wonder traded a mew
like it was fun but really the content after the whole ultra necrozma and becoming the champion stuff sucks and before that is all way too easy
And then there was Super Mario Wonder.
The framerate thing was only a problem for me in handheld mode. I don’t remember any dips in tv mode, but in handheld mode you got 20fps at best
Weird, it lags more in TV for me. I never lose any frames with handheld.
the framerate is horrid when the bowser goes rawr
No lag on PC😎
Cant believe i found this channel again - first watched you when you probably only had like 20k subs - proud to see how far youve come
You’ve heard of 2d Mario. You’ve heard of 3D Mario. But what about..... 4D MARIO
even better, 1d mario
3.5d mario
pi-D mario
0D mario
I absolutely love your analyses of these games. It‘s amazing to see how many parts come together to create such games and what the intention of Nintendo’s directors was.
That jab at pokemon graphics though.
He is not wrong though.
The last time Pokémon graphics were welcomed, it was 2010 and TH-cam was just about to be ruined for the first time.
2:34 - And now I'm wondering who our first favorite Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device is 🤔😛
Are challenge runs and Mario Maker contraptions not happening anymore? I love the video essays, but I'm starting to miss that classic Ceave content!
Same. I always thought of him as the Mario Maker science guy.
Mushrooms also contain psychoactive chemicals that make them "magical."
Conveniently, Bowser is associated with fire, and no environmental conditions are worse for mushrooms than aridity.
With just a few basic concepts and without any plot, we've established,
-- What the Mushroom Kingdom is
-- Who Mario is and why he's a hero
-- Who Bowser is and why he's evil
-- How this all plays into the way Mario games already present themselves
All it really takes to expand upon this is to examine each of the different elements and see how they fit into the whole.

Well done
at 20:12 i thought that was a real cat purr XD
That pokemon rost at 7:05 sent me. Great stuff
I didn’t know what you meant about Pokémon. Then I got an ad about it
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is really a celebration and a culmination of every single mario game, Bowser's Fury adding stuff from Sunshine and Odyssey which was the only thing missing, SM3DW covering the other games with its map structure, star-locked levels, character cast and level design. It's really such a relief to see such an ambitous experiment like this be released!

When I first saw Bowser's Fury, I was like "Wait, so it's like Odyssey but with the 3D World engine?"
I didn't notice the paradox of that sentence until now.
I think it would be cool if Mario did something similar to Nier: Automata, where there’s open 3D sections, linear 3D sections, and 2D sidescrolling sections, with seamless transitions between each gameplay style.
I wouldn’t consider BotW an reference for “beautiful state-of-the-art graphics”.

Ceave, can you make a video describing your final thoughts and memories you had with Super Mario Maker Wii U before it’s gone forever as a goodbye?
When? Where?? Who??? Why????
@@Flymerick If you didn't know, March 31st is when Nintendo is removing core features from Mario Maker on Wii U, including the ability to upload levels and bookmarking levels from the website. It's quite sad because the game is very special to me and I am sure that Ceave can agree with me.

Ceave: Nintendo should make a Mario game where you can switch from 2d to 3d
Super Paper Mario:
Am I a joke to you?
Paper Mario series is a spin-off plus it's not Nintendo who makes them
Odyssey lol
idea: a Mario exploration game but you have a "dimension transporter" where you can take shortcuts by going through new dimensions.
The lake lapcat music is the reason bowser's fury solves 3d mario, you won't change my mind 🎧🎶

Mario Generations
Epic
The whole 2D and 3D combining concept reminds me of Super Paper Mario. Hopefully people's viewpoints on that game don't hinder Nintendo's willingness to something like you described...
When did "fan" opinions ever stop them from doing whatever the heck they felt like?
