thanks for the video, I just replaced mine with the same speakers and was so simple. BUT, you do not have to disconnect the electrical plugs or door actuators (locks) if you have a friend hold the door panel and rotate it out of the way while you remove and replace the speakers ;) I did all 4 in 35 min. It is a HUGE improvement in sound quality.
Cooool. Good to know. Maybe there is a solo, Helping Hands way to hold the panel, too...for the friendless... a string to tie to the doorframe and something to keep the panel away. Tx for the idea.
Crutch is great, including the mounts and wires with speakers, and free shipping too! Thanks for this excellent guide. Can't wait to get in my new speakers later this week when it all arrives.
don't do what this guy did. Spend a little extra time and money on making your install proper. Properly sound deaden your door, make the mounting ring as sealed, and as sturdy as possible. Dont use plastic mounts. This door panel in the video is going rattle and buzz like crazy in 2 years. Your speakers will sound 10x better.
This is supposed to be fairly budget friendly. If anyone has the money, they might as well send it to a professional audio shop and get quality equipment and installation.
@@eriklandgren2734 Some homemade HDF mounting rings, and sound deadening the door would take very little additional effort and cost than what you did here; I mean, you already have to take the door cards off. But I hear you, sometimes the appeal of an easy plug and play, in and out job prevails.
It sounds amazing and I'm pleased with the results even with Subby's stock speakers, I highly recommend Beat-Sonic to anyone regardless on their budget? @@eriklandgren2734
On my '13 Impreza sedan, used the baffles behind the Infiniti door speakers to eliminate any door vibrations. I get my bass response from a small powered sub under the front passenger seat. Use an aftermarket Eclipse receiver as the Subaru radios in those days were total garbage. Have tweeters pointing up from the door location, no dash speakers. Having tweeters too far from the door mounted mids hurts imaging.
I got a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Premium. I'm still trying to convince myself whether to buy it or not. But after watching this video and checking its price, I ordered them right away. They're on sale @ Crutchfield.
Great video, thanks for posting, I just did mine all the same! Did you end up on a standard EQ setting? I feel like I’m getting too much high and mid now
What did you do with the spare wire on the dash tweeter that the metra 72-8110 has? It’s so much freakin wire, should I just wrap it around or something?
@@eriklandgren2734 I did the same, used small rubber bands. Got the install done in about 20 minutes, thanks for the walkthrough. Doing the front speakers tomorrow. Put infinity reference in the dash and it’s a big difference. Way more midrange and even some bass, putting infinity reference in the doors as well and focals in the rear
I thought about doing the Infinity’s! I saw better/more reviews for the Kickers though so I went that route. I did the tweeters in about the same amount of time in a hotel parking lot 😂
@@eriklandgren2734I did mine in the rain at night😂 when I got in the next morning I noticed two distinct smudges on my windshield on both sides where my forehead was pressed against the glass. Pain to get to 😂 I like the infinity reference in the dash, has a surprising amount of mid range, probably more than the greeting card “6x9” speakers in the door. Doing the doors today
I had seen multiple videos of people adding larger holes for the speakers themselves to breathe I guess? Since the video I’m glad I installed the baffles but not happy with the hole. Crosstreks by design flow rain water through the small window seal where it then drains out the bottom of the door. With the hole in the baffle I’m getting water intake into the baffle. I’m in the works of finding a way to cover it back up.
@@eriklandgren2734 Also on the crutchfield page for the baffles, there is a video that explains that without the hole, the sub response can get muffled. The vid explains that youre supposed to cut the hole, but make sure you put the side with the hole on the BOTTOM to avoid getting water in the speaker XD
@@eriklandgren2734 Id suggest your turn your baffles 180 so that the cut is at the bottom so water has a harder time getting in and an easier time getting out. A simple slit would have been enough to get the wires through. Some have suggested that the extra venting allows for more bass. Hard to believe that since the baffles are so flexible. I'd have to listen to two installs to see if there is a difference. I'm considering adding baffles to mine. Right now I have sound deadening in my doors and it sounds great. Way better than stock.
Thanks. Say, does upgrading the rear speakers increase the rear speaker VOLUME? I find that the stock speakers don’t sound nearly as loud as the front ones.
All around, I noticed a slightly higher volume before clipping and distortion. Stock speakers i was getting to about 20 and now on anything but rap, i can get to 26/27ish before distortion.
Thank you for the video! I bought today crosstrek limited with “premium 10 speakers” HK audio system. In fron it sounds not bad, but rear speakers sounds like regular mobile phone speakers! After your video I'm thinking about changing rear speakers, or all of them 😆
Wonderful video! Thank you. I am assuming the stock system came with a crossover, so that higher frequencies went to the stock tweeter in the dash and lower frequencies to the stock bass driver in the front doors. Thoughts? Trying to figure out if i want to upgrade the front with a component speaker, then the back doors with co-axial. Again, wonderful video!
Just an fyi, I found this out after install that rain water can flow through the door cavity and get the insulation wet. Thankfully the baffles saved the new speakers from getting wet. Apparently the water comes through the small from window and drains through a hole on the bottom of the door.
Do I need to disconnect power from the battery before doing this? I know the car is off but still get door open indicator and also image in speedometer about the door being open.
You may want to ditch the baffles. They lesson the volume behind the speaker. It kind of creates a small speaker enclosure. The larger speaker enclosure gives you a better bass response. I bought those baffles on my last car. The low end was just not what I was hoping for. Taking the baffles out made a huge difference.
I’ve definitely heard hit or miss things with the baffles. It’s easy enough to get the door off, I might take them out just to see what the difference is.
@@eriklandgren2734 The real trick is to isolate the front of the speaker from the back. If you screw the speaker into the door by themselves you'll get poor sound. What you want to do is get a good seal around the edge of the speaker all the way around. I use thin foam insulation (note all the foam on the OEM speaker and adapter, you want to emulate that). I have used the baffles in the past but I ended up cutting the edges off and using the edges to seal the speaker. I threw the backs away. Once you get a good seal it wakes the speakers up.
Appreciate the tip! Unfortunately the whole baffle might be staying on. Thanks to Subarus poor design, water flows through the door from the small front window down to drain holes. Without the baffles, the speakers are subject to getting wet.
