You make an excellent point here, that getting rid of stuff is more exhausting than shopping and bringing it home. I work really hard to think about things when I shop, for this point alone makes me cringe thinking about having to dispose of something later on. I also love that you are so self aware. That is wonderful! I am now searching for a small cottage, maybe 3 to 4 rooms at most, space for my animals and gardens and a place to sit outside.
Yes, it really is difficult to get rid of stuff. I have the same thing now, whenever I want to bring something new in I try to think about how much effort it is going to take to get is out again and if that is worth it. Your dream cottage sounds so wonderful! Space for your animals and a place to sit outside, so lovely. 💛🌻
Yes, I completely relate to mess. I can always feel when the clutter starts creeping in. I become stressed, overly anxious and not liking to clean. I now declutter almost daily to ensure I have more control of the excess.
It’s so important to listen to your own needs. You made some great points that it’s so easy to bring things in and so hard to move things out of your home. Also that it’s not permanent as you can decide to bring things back in if in the future you want to. Wonderful video and well done.
Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed watching it. 💛 Yes, it really is very important to listen to your own needs and to know that the changes don't have to be permanent.
hello anja-i know just how you feel--people like to say to me, that the reason i don't like things ,is that i either don't have enough to do--or i'm dealing with heartache or other related stress. i feel it causes confusion and too much work that is not needed--its' lovely to be free from this stuff as we have said--thank you again--your friend deatra
Hi Deatra! :) You said that very well. I also deal with people saying or thinking that about me. But indeed I also think stuff causes too much confusion and too much unnecessary work. It's so nice to be free of it! 💛🌻
Yay fellow minimalist! We live on our sailboat, sailing the world so we definitely consider ourselves minimalists and love to see other minimalistic youtubers! Cheers!
I (and others) thought I was crazy for saying my already pretty minimalist room was "still bothering me" 😅 I'm an HSP and find that muted colors and small but cozy spaces are what I gravitate to. This is almost exactly how my room looks now. Mainly the essentials and a few things that exist simply because they spark joy. I feel like that's the true meaning of happiness for me. Thank you Anja for your lovely insight and inspiration into minimalism and extreme minimalism ❤
Yes, I know the struggles of being an HSP, even very minimal rooms can still bother us :) I'm happy to hear that you listened to yourself and what feels best for you and that you are living the way you want. It's indeed the true meaning of happiness. And thank you so much, I'm so happy to hear that you can find inspiration in these videos. 💛
I appreciate what you said about not needing to think about the future and that you have to try it to know if it works for you! Also, you can always choose to bring it back in.. feels very free and flowing
Thanks! :) I'm happy to hear that it resonated with you. Yes, I know at least for me it can be easy to forget that things don't have to be permanently. Free and flowing is exactly what it is!
I 100% agree with your thoughts on minimalism and life. I'm very much the same. I laughed when you said all you need is your pets and laptop because I thought the same when I had my rabbit. Technology is amazing and I feel like I need some sort of device since I love to write/type and the internet connects us to so much :)
It's so nice to hear that we are like minded about thoughts on minimalism and life. And it's so funny to hear that you had the same thing with only needing your rabbit and technology :) I totally agree with you, I also really appreciate the connection technology and internet can provide me and to be creative with writing and editing. And I like the fact that it is so compact. You can do so much on one device.
Your view on minimalism is so beautiful🤍 I often times focus on getting rid of things as permanent. when in reality we may not need things at certain moments, but later on we can welcome them back into our lives. This video is a perfect reminder of that.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! 💛 Yes, I understand the feeling, when you discard things it feels so “permanent” and as if you can never have it back. But it really doesn't have to be permanent. Often times it's not that difficult to get something (similar) back if you want to.
I think it is wonderful that you are doing what is right for you. I feel I live very minimally but I live with my husband and 8 of my children and they have belongings and some like lots of items. I find this hard to deal with some times. I think I would have a place like yours if I was alone.
It's good to hear that you are living minimal as well :) Yes, I understand that it must be difficult to have a minimalist household with a family where you share the space, especially with children and their belongings. I understand that sometimes it can be hard to deal with. Honestly, I even have this feeling already sometimes with my pets and the belongings I need to take proper care of them as well. It's very different of course and not comparable with the amount of stuff of a family but sharing spaces definitely brings in some challenges!
This was very inspirational. I have got rid of a lot of things recently but I am not as far along this journey as you but this is where I am heading and it feels very liberating.
I'm glad to hear that it was inspirational! And that you feel so liberated in your journey. Minimalism really is a journey and it did take me some time. Wishing you good luck with your journey 🌻💛
You are very inspirational!! Love your videos sooo much and love the energy of your space! You inspire me to clear up my space as well and whenever I need a bit of motivation I watch one of ur videos! Keep doing what you do, we love you and support you ❤
That is so nice of you, what a sweet, sweet message! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it and it was so nice to receive it. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoy watching the videos and that it gives you motivation 💛💛💛
I know very well how that feels, I was doing same thing, but I've never went beyond some point of decluttering (tho I was still seen as an "extreme" by my family and some friends) because I was afraid mostly of being judged... But now I sold my apartment and move into my dreamy tiny house, I decided to get rid of most things including heavy furnitures and bed, because why not, life is to experiment!
That sounds amazing, I love it that you followed your dreams and moved into your dream tiny hose. What an inspiration. Yes, it really is difficult to deal with the judgments of other people. But t's so good to follow your heart. And you're so right, I love the “why not, life is to experiment” attitude so much! :)
Hi Anja! This is a very inspirational video, your apartmrnt is really lovely i think its great what you are doing and it reminds me of when i got rid of all my furniture, i too got the screwdriver out and took it all apart, actually the same tool that originally came with the furniture/units i now don't really want to have furniture again in my flat, your beautiful floor looks amazing and now you have taken away the furniture you see it all, by the way i love the netherlands and thankyou for this video!! great stuff
Thank you so much for your kind message, I really appreciate it! And good to hear that you have been through the same process with getting rid of furniture and that you now love your apartment. I feel the same way, I also don't want any heavy furniture in my home anymore, especially no storage space units or closets. And so nice to hear that you love the Netherlands :) it's a great place, I love living here!
Life is much about experiment, trying something new, throwing out the old and you do change as life goes by (I mean, the older you get). I'm not fond of cleaning myself and your clean spaces looks so tranquil. If I lived all by myself I would consider perhaps something more like you have got, but since I don't I really can't. My husband would wonder why we no longer have a sofa, a table etc lol! Wait a minute - did I get it right? Did your guinea pigs get sick? Or are they okay? Please excuse me, I'm completely senile. Sending much love from Sweden
Why do you now not move into a studio apartment. With maybe a bit of garden, where your rabbits can hop around and nibble on some fresh grass. Just a question. Of course it depends in which country you are living Anja. Love from Switzerland.
Thanks for asking! :) I live in the Netherlands and I'm looking for a new place indeed. A small garden is very important for my pets! :) Actually that is the most important thing for me right now. And something a bit smaller would also be nice. I don't need a lot of space. Though a studio is a bit too small, at least for me, just because of the fact that everything happens in one room and I do like to have a separate room to sleep in. I have lived in a studio for 6 months when I first moved out and unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience for me doing and living in one room back then. Maybe times have changed but I don't dare to take the risk so I'm searching for a small apartment instead right now. Greetings to you in Switzerland! 💛
I want to remove more things from my space. I am a student so I have books and school supplies and dance clothing that I need to have for school. I feel like the things for school overwhelm me and one day I'd like to minimize these things more.
Good point, I think that school supplies really can be overwhelming indeed. It's difficult because you need them to study but it can really be a lot of stuff. I remember that I was very happy to declutter my school supplies after graduating, but art supplies took me some extra time after college. Hope you can get it down soon or when you're graduated :) wishing you good luck with it!
I like that you did what was best for YOU! I've been trying to get rid of the stuff that doesn't serve me anymore but it's so hard. By the way, that table was lovely what brand is it?
Thank you so much! Yes, it really can be difficult to get rid of stuff, it's not an easy task. Mentally/emotionally but also physically it can be challenging. Wishing you all the best with your decluttering journey. 💛 The table was hand made locally. But I think I have seen some that looked a bit similar (at least in my eyes) at Zara Home.
Thanks for asking :) I'm in the process of finding a new home right now. Something smaller would be nice indeed but I like having space and for me it's important to have different spaces for different purposes, like sleeping, eating and working. I don't like being surrounded by a lot of stuff but I really love having space around me. I have lived in a studio for 6 months when I first moved out but for me unfortunately it was a terrible experience to always be and do everything in 1 room and it made me depressed back then. I remember literally crying about feeling stuck between those 4 walls. So a bit smaller would be nice yes but not too small :)

Hi Elizabeth, living with other people who are not minimalist while you yourself would like to pursuit that is difficult, I understand. Hi I really appreciate you to remove things from house if difficult each little comes home we get attachment with it it so difficult to remove from house
I want to make my environment more empty, but I find it hard to trust that when I need something similar in the future, that I will have enough money for that thing. For example, a quilt for a double bed. or curtains that don't really fit the window in my current space. All these things will be able to be used one day, but I don't know how to fee comfortable letting them go.
Yes, I definitely understand that it can be difficult and it's also alright to hold on to things if you want to. Some of the things we really can use in the future and we don't want to waste our money. That is very understandable. As I said before, for me making a priority list helped with deciding whether or not to keep certain items :) And I think that the minimalist have this rule of 20/20. If it's under 20 dollars and you are able to get it within 20 minutes then according to them it's not that important to hold on to it (but again that's different for everyone) I sometimes find that looking at those statements helps me to decide whether I agree with it or not. And I find that Fumio Sasaki's statements were also interesting to look at and shape my own values regarding to letting go. I hope this can help you a bit :)

I love the clean, uncluttered expanse of your wood floor. It looks calm and restful 😌
You are extreme,in the very best way 🌼
Thank you so much R.D. Whitaker! I'm also very happy with the calm and restfulness that is present now :)
I like your house and I 100% feeling distracted and tired with furniture
Thank you so much! And you're right about it. Furniture definitely can be tiring and distracting. I know the feeling ;)

I am following minimalism everyday..🌱

Thank you so much! :) Yes meditation is amazing, it makes such a difference in my life I find. I'm happy to hear that it helps you too. 💛

I don't like a lot of furniture or anything in my cabinets. As a matter of fact, I don't like cabinets or a kitchen. Peaceful video💞.

Hello Anja, I hope your guinea pig is doing okay now. A sick pet is so scary. Sending you and all your beautiful babies much love.
Thank you so much Celia! 💛 It's much appreciated and much needed here. 🍀 A sick pet really is so awful and scary indeed.
loved your side table!
I know, it was a difficult decision. It was really lovely but someone else can enjoy it now as well
You poor thing... I'm sorry for your lost. BUT I'm glad you kept your vacuum cleaner. Do what's best for you, happens is the goal.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. Yes, I agree with you happiness is the most important goal :)

I enjoy furniture that folds and

Yes, those kinds of furniture are very useful! :)
how can you bring it back? do you have storage?
I like that you did what was best for YOU! I've been trying to get rid of the stuff that doesn't serve me anymore but it's so hard.

Hi Elizabeth, living with other people who are not minimalist while you yourself would like to pursuit that is difficult, I understand. At this current moment I'm staying at my mothers place who also is far from a minimalist. This is just what works best for me with others. But I have been living alone and single for most part so I'm not the best expert on advising how to deal with living with other people, maybe some who has more experience with this can help you as well. Hi I really appreciate you to remove things from house if difficult each little comes home we get attachment with it it so difficult to remove from house

This is extreme minimalism....and its not for everyone...
Maybe you should move into a smaller square foot home.
New friend im planning to do minimalism too
Welcome, new friend! It's nice to have you here :) Wishing you all the best with your minimalism journey!
I hope your little piggy is feeling better?
hi!! gaaf om een Nederlander tegen te komen die geïnteresseerd is in minimalisme! Komt niet vaak voor
