Gandhi was a good man...his astrological chart also implies the same verified by western astrologers too.

Thank you so soo much for sparing your time expanding on this book and the life of Gandhi so articulate! The cycle of agreement and disagreement is unending. That being said, I'm grateful that you gave your insights, it really helped me with my english textbook lessons, and that you exposed me to this book, a thread to begin my knowledge of Gandhi with!❤

I studied in an American High school. The curriculum in American schools varies widely from district to district, but in my school we studied Gandhi in 10th grade and in 12th grade. He was part of our study of decolonization. He was also studied as an influence on the famous American Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Interesting. Good work. You should read the articles of Ghandi to get a netter understanding.🤓

Wow, that was fast! One source is: www.gandhiashramsevagram.org/gandhi-literature/collected-works-of-mahatma-gandhi-volume-1-to-98.php
It's impossible to read this all! But you will notice how important writing was for Gandhi and how he never stopped discussing new political or cultural issues. I like his autobiography "THE STORY OF MY EXPERIMENTS WITH TRUTH" and his reports about his life in South Africa "Satyagraha in Southerner's Africa". He was an impressive political thinker with a lot of contradictions, but what else would you expect.
I like your blog, your passion to write and talk about your reading. I'm also teaching language, so I understand how difficult it is to help students learning. Academic research is not always very helpful. Too far away form your classroom. So continue with your good work und keep your tail up!

Thanks for the book recommendations. I've Googled "The South African Gandhi" and read a few of the Amazon blurbs. It does look pretty damning, but I'm not sure the South African Gandhi represents the Gandhi in later life. point made explicitly in Louis Fischer's book is that Gandhi's attitude towards the British Empire evolved since his time in South Africa. So, yes, he did support the War effort when he was in South Africa, but he was a different man by the time he died. As to his attitudes on race, this isn't explicitly addressed in Louis Fischer's book--at least not his attitudes towards blacks. It is stated that his attitudes on untouchables evolved, and I'm guessing maybe his attitudes on blacks may have been evolving at the same time? But this is never addressed directly in this book

@@JoelSwagman welcome. His attitude on untouchables didn't evolve. He stopped the untouchables from getting a separate electorate in India. I'm from India and we are not taught about this side of Gandhi in schools or the mainstream history books. Read the book by Arundhati Roy. In Ghana people started a Gandhi must fall campaign.
People think his views changed but it's not true. Read about Brahmins and shudras you'll know more.
      Enjoy researching.
Also read "what Gandhi and Congress have done to the untouchables by BR Ambedkar".
