Great video! I love this book. And I think the poem is beautiful, very moving and thoughtful. But most importantly, the language of it just sounds so incredible. People, make sure you read it somewhat outloud to yourself.
I borrow this book from the library every year when Spring comes around, I simply read it until I have to bring it back without any pressure of finishing it. Funny to meet someone else who has a time limited experience with this book lol
It was a bookclub book so, deadlines were agreed upon. It might have been more enjoyable without the deadlines. But then again, I might not have finished it at all. Do you really read it every year?
@@JoelSwagman I honestly don't think I will ever finish it either hahaha But I do like the introduction alot! It's so entertaining, and in a sense foreboding of what's to come. Just reading that part is enough for me to imagine a short film where a guy tries to befriend his hero, but has to reconcile with stealing his poem instead. It reminds me to enjoy the little things in life instead of always striving for greatness and that's a beautiful thought to celebrate with some cherry blossoms and little chicks tweeting down the park all day.
The poem has 4 parts. The book has 4 parts. If you missed that, and it seems you did, no wonder the book is so troubling. The Index is the best part. Do you or your "club" look up the source of the title? Shakespeare or the plot of the play its taken from? OK. I'll throw you a bone. The "King" makes reference to the magical Mirror of Sudarg of Bokay. Imagine in the mirror of your mind you read the name backwards. Try it. It should unlock another layer of clues in the game of the book .
you forgot to mention that Zembla isn't actually real and Charles Kinbote is actually a Russian scholar named V. Botkin. Zembla and him being the king of Zembla and named Charles Kinbote are a part of his imagination.
My experience was that the beginning was very confusing, but once I got the conceit of the book, it was enjoyable for a while. But then I felt that once I got the joke, there wasn't that much more too the book, and it began to drag a bit. But let me know what you think when you finish it.

You forget the Index. The fourth part and necessary to understand the real ending.
Reading the book right now. Once you get over the initial hurdles, I find the book very enjoyable.
