Alyssa Sutherland absolutely killed it as the mom, she was so good and being creepy, loving, taunting, demonic, and crazy at the same time, plus amazing physical work
Plus, she was kinda sexy, in a demented way. I'm not ashamed to admit it 😅

Yeah, she was probably one of the highlights/best parts of this movie
In the interview, she says her inspiration for this one was none other than Jim Carrey's Mask character. Let that sink in..
Her facial features were perfect for this. And her teeth as well. Perfect creepy smile.
This movie made a lot of money at the box office, $150 million dollars against a $19 million dollar budget.

I still can't believe after all this time watching tons of movies that Mrs Cowboy is still a scaredy cat. This one is a 5/10 on the scare meter. It's more of an nostalgia franchise if anything. The banter and chemistry between Mr Movies Kaiju Cowboy and his wife still makes the channel tho. Congrats. Great, Super.
Yeah I always appreciate Mrs Cowboy Movies going into these reviews blind. To get the genuine scares outta her. Boy I salute her courage for facing this type of traumatic experience. My girl won't watch horror movies no matter how much you pay her. It's not happening folks.
The actress they got to play the mom was perfect. She already had a creepy smile, but with the makeup she looked badass and scary af.
I loved this movie, so many call backs to the og films! My favorites were the pizza place being called Henrietta's Pizzeria and Bruce Campbell playing the priest who can be heard yelling "It's called the Book of the Dead for a reason"!
The director has come out and stated that nowhere does it say that Bruce is supposed to be a priest. All you hear Bruce yell is for the other priest to stop reading the book, or something like that. He's hinting that it just might be Ash in the past trying to stop the priest from reading the book. last time we see Ash, he's in the future but there just might be a story that he tried coming back to his present and instead ended up at the time of those priests.

Evil Dead Rise is not a reboot. It is connected to the original Evil Dead trilogy & Evil Dead (2013).
During the film when the character of Danny (Morgan Davis) plays the record he found alongside the Necronomicon, it reveals this is one of three volumes of the Book of the Dead. This plays off a joke in Army of Darkness when Ash finds three versions of the Necronomicon and must find out which is the real one. Evil Dead Rise suggests that all three are the real version and that Ash had to pick the specific one that was haunting him and his friends.
Nothing in Evil Dead Rise contradicts the events of Sam Raimi's trilogy or the 2013 film, so theoretically, it could act as a stand-alone sequel to either entry. It is a Schrödinger's cat of film installments, able to be both parts of each series and not depending on how one looks at it. Evil Dead Rise could also be seen as a direct reboot of the franchise, attempting to relaunch the series. Yet one line of dialog in the film indicates that Evil Dead Rise is not only a sequel, but its existence retroactively turns the 2013 Evil Dead from a stand-alone reboot into another entry in the larger Evil Dead story.
This means one version was in the original Evil Dead films and Ash vs Evil Dead, one is present in Evil Dead Rise, and the third one might have been the one featured in the 2013 Evil Dead. 2013's This recontextualizes that previous film as no longer a reboot but part of the main franchise. References like Ash's car (which is Sam Raimi's real car that has been shown in almost all of his movies) or the double barrel shotgun in that movie that were just easter eggs for the fans now suggest they are connected to the previous film.

Theaters should incorporate the ability to use headphones or earbuds.

She still stayed in her chair tho, I give her credit for that. The Descent made her leave her chair for a bit. And we got to see some funny meme-worthy facial expressions. My woman won't even watch horror movies. I might have to start my own channel and make her do it for the cash lol
I saw an interview given by Alyssa Sutherland where she said her Deadite performance was based on how Jim Carrey played The Mask, just a full embodiment of chaos.
Good movie. I personally liked the 2013 remake more. This one wasn't as scary, but the cinematography was amazing. Great shots throughout. Really visually pleasing.
To me it's the opposite.
I don't think any of the Evil Dead movies are very scary per se, but I also don't think they're necessarily meant to be.
They're creepy, brutal, over the top, gory, quotable, entertaining, and memorable.
Also, some sequences are scary in a relative way. I.e. understanding the pain that a cheese grater inflicts as most ppl who have used one can attest (as Mrs. points out in the reaction).
Or even by putting yourself in a character's shoes and trying to imagine how you would react or how quickly you could accept your friend, sister, brother, niece, or nephew are no longer that, and if you could/would kill them or what lengths would you go to to "free their soul".
This. It was technically well-made but I was hoping it’d be scary. I still prefer the Raimi and Campbell-produced remake over this.
@@The_Rickest_Rick I would say at the very least the original Evil Dead is "scary" in so much that it was a much more horror focused movie than comedy. But the 2013 remake was actual straight up horror and gore, but it wasn't "scary" per se unless you just love jump scares per se. It was more the creep factor and ambience in that one. Same with this movie actually, it's more creepy and gory and the setting with the ambience just sets it apart. And the practical effects, like in 2013 were terrific.
i’ll watch anyone react to this movie because i love it so dang much but when some of my favorite reaction channels do it, it’s always a great day. happy you got to this gem!

Up till now the movies have either been loose remakes or there wasn't much of a throughline. The plan going forward, which I'm really looking forward to, is that there will be multiple versions of the necronomicon and each new evil summoned will have different strengths and weaknesses depending on which book it comes from. It'll be a kind of Evil Dead cinematic universe. They're supposed to be planning the new mythology so that when a new director comes in they know where the story needs to go and instead of making an average of one movie every decade they'll start doing one every few years. I can't wait.
The beginning of the video was hilarious 🤣.
The whole theater was screaming during the chainsaw scene, plus the cheese grater on the leg and chewing glasses bridget. IT was a swell time when I saw this. And most people were laughing on the jumpscares and the taunting of EENY MEENIE MINY MOO! banter from zombie mom! lol
This was my favorite theater experience this year so far and favorite horrror so far too. I'm glad it did great in the box office
I went to see it in a cinema and it was absolutely awesome
Not only for the surround sound they used which made it really freaky when there was whispering or the sound of a fly
But because hearing people's reactions around me was also quite entertaining

Interesting facts about EVIL DEAD RISE (2023) Director Lee Cronin stated in an interview that 6,500 liters (or 1,720 gallons) of fake blood were used for the movie. (2) The pizza place is called Henrietta's. A reference to Henrietta Knowby, the demon in the basement in Evil Dead 2. (3) To get into the character of an alternate personality, actress Alyssa Sutherland took inspiration from Jim Carrey's performance as Stanley Ipkiss in The Mask (1994).

great reaction, I respect Mrs Movie in not liking this, I fairly enjoyed it but I respect her choice in not liking it much. If everyone in the world loved the same movies, then life would be boring.

Absolutely loved this movie. Whilst, yes, its not as gory as 2013 was I feel like the characters are far more memorable because of it and it just HAS that Evil Dead feel.

@@jamesmeechan6983 2013 had a LOT more blood in it.70,000 gallons total, 50k in the final scene alone, compared to 1,717 gallons in Evil Dead Rise.
Having more blood, not necessarily make it gorier. Gore would be blood and guts, not merely falling from the sky like rain.
Evil Dead Rise has MUCH better Deadites in my opinion, the mental warfare of the mother especially.

Fun Fact: The director made a statement, they only use the digital to enhance the effect, but they are all practical effect.
"It looks like rain forest" - It was filmed in New Zealand so yeah, there's tropical plants and trees you wouldn't see in California, I don't think.

I saw this movie at the theater front row so loud and chaotic I felt like I was constantly covered with blood. Sensory Overload. The opening title scene was almost orgasmic.
Evil Dead wasn't a remake or a reboot. It was the story about the second book.

This movie gave me exactly what I wanted and came out loving it. I knew the moment kids were involved in this franchise I was like damn that just raised the stakes and I knew the Mrs was gonna be on the edge of her seat cause we all know how she feels about kids being in horror especially horror that is known to be brutal when killing or attacking their victims.

This movie was a RIDE. My roommate, my boyfriend and I all went and watched it in theaters together and omg we were so scared, we were laughing, we had such a great time! When we were walking out of the theatre, all three of us let out a long, tired breath. We all agreed it felt like we had just gotten off of a intense ass rollercoaster. 5/5 for me 🙌🏻 love this movie

When Edison made the first records they were like a cylinder. The old records were played at 78rpm . later, they went to 33 and a third . They tried tin at one time but, it didn't work very well. I believe.
The thing that baffles me is how what’s her face … the mother specifically says to her children to never take the elevator after an earthquake because of after shocks but then 5 minutes later she takes it & it ended up being her downfall. The hypocrisy is crazy.

Dream Child is a classic. Some great death scenes (the motorcycle death especially) were great.
As for the remake, you may have a point. I wouldn’t call it shitty though. I also wouldn’t call it a masterpiece either.

the book is the third book that was intruduced during the evil dead movie series. there is a movie in which 3 books are on the altar. this is the thrid in evil dead rise

the records are probably 78 rpm , used to have a bunch ! lol recently bought the bluray , think this one may be the bloodiest of the bunch !
Back in the final days there were 33 LPs, 45s and also 78s which were pretty uncommon and almost none of the players had that setting, but occasionally one might. I think that’s what they were going for
I have a feeling 78s were also slightly smaller than 33s and 45s. They were common up until the 1950s; some record players had 78RPM settings up until maybe the 80s, but by then the 78 was basically just a historic curio. There are still tons of historic 78s out there though.

The final deadite in this film is called the Ravager, we had the Abomination in the 2013 one. I am not sure what the name if there is one in the first two movies.
The demon in this film is called the Marauder, not ravager. You are correct about the name in the 2013 film being the Abomination.
@@jrod4040 Yea I don't know why I typed Ravager. I was thinking of something else. I think all we dealt with in 1 and 2 was the actual Kandarian Demon and the deadites it summoned, no special deadites though.

@smiffy68 Not if it's done right. Hell, Scream 2 came out one year after Scream. Also, Scream VI came out less than 2 years after Scream (2022), and both were well received, VI even more so.

I was at a bar on the Oklahoma/Arkansas border and a guy dropped his beer and the top broke off. He drank from the broken bottle neck and started chomping on the bottle. I still remember that over 30 years later lol.

The first record was made from vinyl in 1930. So this isn't historically accurate. Although, vinyl itself was invented in 1887 by Emile Berliner for use with a Gramophone, but those discs were much smaller than actual vinyl records.
