In case you couldn't tell, Jodi's spirit was trying to warn/scare the family away. Basically to save them. The Preacher spirit was trying to destroy them. Which is why you see Jodi being held on the ceiling by another spirit.

Yesss thank you !! Finally someone said it! Jodie wasn’t evil, she got rid of the babysitter bc of the disrespect… other than that she’s not evil. Idk why she would try to get Chelsea to die too but maybe those intentions were good and just didn’t know bc she died so young. Although the closet scene with the babysitter used to make me cry I was so scared from that scene. But that’s when I was a kid. But I remember that scene sticking to me. The end made me sad as I got older when Jodie got dragged down because when I got older I was like traumatized from the fact a little girl was taken to hell. I got the book for Christmas and read half of it and stopped after a while but I remember my heart racing through the book as if I was watching the movies because it seemed truly terrifying. But I haven’t finished it. I just haven’t had inspiration to read lately lol. Jody deserved better🥺

@@AustinFoss00 Really? American characters in movies are very prone to killing and the revenge before justice mentality is very rampart in both movies and outside of them. The amount of American reactors who screams “just kill him!” When watching movies Is astounding. So being American doesn’t necessarily include everyone but there is no denying it’s uncommon for this to happen.

No parent should EVER tell their child/children that you don't believe them when they try to tell the people they trust the most in the world that they're wrong ! Parents need to listen to what their kids are saying or experiencing . I say this due to personal experiences. I ALWAYS listened to my girls because my experiences were very similar ! So, yes, what I'm saying is that some things in this movie hit close to home.

Fun watching with you guys :) It was a treat to see you both watch this for the first time. I love all horror but when it comes to my favorites, I'm definitely in the tradition of the originals. I absolutely love older horror movies. The classics..where the suspense builds and seeing less cheap jump scares and special affects .. where are own mind and imagination does most of the work. This remake wasn't bad but the original is way better to me. It is the epitome of your classic haunted house movie with also the true crime aspect of the story. I have always been into true crime so I know a lot about the true story of the Defeo murders in 1974...it has always been the most intriguing part of the story, the 6 murders for me is the true "horror" . Whether you actually believe in the Lutz ghost story or not, the fact remains that Butch Defeo did actually kill his entire family in that house and that to me is terrifying 👻 🎃 🔪

Definitely preferred the slow build up of the horror in the 1979 version. Also in that George is more influenced by the house to not trust his own eyes and all that. It also felt more like there were kind of trapped there. Having really no other place to go and having all their money $$ tied up in the house.
In this George is pretty much straight up possessed, kills the dog and axe's his wife in the gut. So it's a bit absurd that they just tie him up and take him with them having ZERO clue if just taking him away from the house was going to snap him out of it.
Plus the stuff at the house was just too intense too early on that it makes you wonder why they didn't leave sooner. If my kid climbed up on the roof because she wanted to go where the little girl who died in the house was? Well any good parent would've taken them out of there ASAP!

For Mr Movies: The house used in this version was in Salem, Wisconsin. The Front part with the Eye Shaped Windows was added on to make it look a little more like the real house looked. The Original movie used a different house in New Jersey.

The real life Lutz family, who always stood by their claims the story wasn't a hoax and the house really was demon-infested or something, tried to sue over this remake. George Lutz watched it and, among the very, very few things he said it got right was "we owned a telephone." I personally don't like this movie, but regardless of entertainment value the way it was explicitly marketed as "A True Story" when there had been heavy, heavy doubt cast on the veracity of the original events for decades AND the film's plot bears virtually no resemblance to the book or the actual Lutz' claims anyway is pretty crummy.

    • @BadBeepBoy
      @BadBeepBoy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Something positive about the remake: Ryan Reynolds' abs.
And no, the house in this version looks nothing like the real house or the house in the original films. The first three Amityville movies were shot at a house in Toms River, New Jersey; the 2005 movie was shot at a house in Salem, Wisconsin. Neither house actually had the gambrel roof or quarter moon windows that gave the real house its trademark look, so partial facades were built onto the houses for all four films. The house in Toms River was at least roughly the right shape and size, while the Wisconsin house used for the remake is practically a mansion.

First off I subscribed to you lovely people today!
Second, when he was telling the kid he can call him whatever he wants, it reminded me of when my dad told me the story on my older brother and him. Before I came along. My dad had started dating my mom and eventually got her out of a crappy home and into a nice apartment with him. My brother was around 2 at the time. He came home disappointed cuz his bio dad said he would take him fishing but never showed up so my brother stayed with his grandparents that weekend. He got back just a sad mess, crying and wondering why his bio dad never showed. My dad grabbed fishing gear and took my brother fishing. Awhile after that, my bro came to my dad and said "Is it okay if I call you dad?"
He gave him the best response.
"You can if you want to bud."
Ahhh my heart. Parents are divorced now but I have good relationships with mom dad and bro.

I live about 20 minutes west of this house on Long Island. When this movie came out all of us kids of driving age would grab a case of beer and invite some girls and go to see the house. I myself didn't see what the big deal was after the first time. Other than the fact it was easy to get the girls to go. LOL. It was a Large colonial? house next to an inlet in an upper middle class area. Long Island is filled with houses similar to this one so after you saw it once.....It was on a small side street that only had room for one car at a time on it. So it was a long wait to actually get to the house once you were on the street. If memory serves, a few years prior, a teenage boy actually killed his entire family in the house so thats were they got the "haunted" idea from. Fun fact. Jaws the movie was shot in Marth's Vineyard. But Peter Benchley the author was VERY familiar with Long Island and would often go to The Hamptons to party and or relax. The Hampton's for who that don't know, is a playground for the rich and famous and about an hours drive east of Amityville. Jaws the book was actually based in South Hampton. But to get to South Hampton you HAVE TO literally drive by Amityville. So the fictional town of Amity in the book is most likely named after Amityville. The same town this house is in.

The little girl in this is played by Chloe Grace Moretz in her first theatrical role. Ten years later she’d play the foul-mouthed Mindy, aka Hit Girl, in 2010’s adaptation of Kick-Ass and immediately after explode in popularity. These days, she’s mostly doing voice acting.

This is one of the best horror movie of all time imo! Maybe it’s just nostalgia speaking, but i watched it first time as a kid, 12-14 years ago. I was SO SCARED! And Ryans amazing acting makes it 100 times better.
Sad that you didn’t like it. But horror movies is not for everyone. 😇

For me the original is scarier. Those lingering shots of stillness and silence at night where they've done a good job of building up that something _is_ out there send chills up my spine. I've seen all kinds of gory and gruesome imagery in movies so for me this one is an okay 2000's era version.

    • @WOranos

Agreed. They reveal WAY too much and leave almost nothing to the imagination. The original was frightening, not for what we saw, but for what we didn't. This subtlety seems to have completely eluded these film makers. But maybe that's what you need to capture the attention of modern audiences.

Facts about The Amityville Horror (2005) To create a higher level of performance, Ryan Reynolds decided not to bond with the actors and actresses that played the children in the movie. He became rather distant so that when his character (George) started to change, he wouldn’t have any issues when he had to inflict verbal or physical abuse on them. He was so distant during this time that the children truly thought that Reynolds did not like them. It was a special pair of contact lenses that Ryan Reynolds wore in many of the scenes that were responsible for creating the effect that his eyes were black with a white ring surrounding them.

I have to say that even though I do think that this version is scarier than the original, I still prefer the original over this one. It's just a lot more classic and the older feel makes it really creepy but in a different way than this one is. Jodie is the creepiest part of this movie for sure. Every time she showed up, I was shivering. Haha!
