you forgot the most important one: picking riders up in unsafe/illegal locations e.g. red curbs, bus stops, cross walks, no stopping zones, and in the middle of busy streets.

I ALWAYS get that one person who has an attitude because you don't pick them up or drop them off a couple feet from their location because it is NOT safe. I got into an accident because my passenger did not want to cross the street!!! I safely made a turn BUT someone reversed into me 🤦🏽‍♀️ I'm way too patient and nice, but you learn and I'm done being nice 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hey, it's better safe than sorry. You don't want to pull over in the wrong area and risk getting a ticket!

    • @petttekelly2997
      @petttekelly2997 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

yup. : ( Unfortunately and as much as i hate to do so, at this point in time i will just cancel on these type of pickup locations. Since the rideshare companies don't seem to want to take any proactive steps to circumvent the problem, and since a lot of riders seem to lack any empathy for what drivers have to deal with on a daily basis, i feel like thats the only option we have. I recommend every driver to do the same; especially when the tickets for breaking these laws can be pretty expensive! But if you do choose to cancel make sure to contact driver support to let them know your reason; that is important! Drive safe : )

I’ve noticed that as long as I’ve driven close enough, I can make myself as arrived even if I continue driving past, so I get close enough for the arrived button to pop and look around for anyone. If I see someone I wave and continue to a safe place to park. If I don’t I just continue to a safe place to park close enough. Then I’ll call them right after I park to let them know I may not be in plain sight

I would say it’s about 25-30 percent who do. I was surprised at first which passengers tip and which do not. Millennials going to trendy bars have always tipped me more than middle aged business people going to or from the airport, which really surprised me at first. What I have figured out is that if someone’s job is paying for the ride or if they are going to use it as an expense account deduction, they usually don’t tip because they are afraid it will be seen as gouging their employer.

Most of these hints are common knowledge, or at least should be. The others are just flat out wrong.
For instance, there's no such thing as a typical passenger. You get chatty Cathy, who doesn't shut up the whole ride, then the next one is silent Stan, who doesn't use words. At all. Ever. You have to learn to read your passenger. Start with Hi! I'm me, what's your name? This gets your verification done, and builds rapport at the same time. Then ask 1 open ended question, such as, how was your weekend, or do you have plans for the weekend? If they give a one word answer, they're a Stan. If not, Cathy will carry the conversation, and you're good.
One good thing about this video is you mentioned talking on your phone and playing loud music with a passenger on board. Just don't. Music should be for ambiance, this isn't a rock concert.
If a rider wants to stop at a store, make them add the stop into the app. That way, you get paid for wait time, which is way more than traffic time.

#15 happens so #14 isn't out of pocket! If my rider wants to swing past taco bell and get me a steak quesadilla as a tip for the stop.... then I'm going to stop, paid pennies to sit in line but a free lunch...

Texas Hunter that’s actually the best way to do it to save gas, time and energy. But if you are in a market that is spotty or rural it may make sense to drive to the hot spots. In LA, just park where you can and wait. ;) Ben doing this for four years now

  • @21DegrassiStreet

A lot of this is case by case. The eating out thing is moot if you do this FT, otherwise you may need a cooler which takes up space if you're in an area that L/U likes to give you a random airport ride when you're not in the queue.
You can't always tell who a minor is, you're gonna end up taking one that looked older.
If your vehicle is leased, you can't depreciate. You can also write-off your car payments. Also, I'm an accountant/Tax preparer and he forgot to explain that you have to choose between mileage vs auto gas, payments, maintenance and depreciation. Mileage is gonna win out for this job. Every single trip is a business expense, there is no home base (office) really.
Personal Power Zones for Lyft are great. Park somewhere dead, max out the bonus, drive to a good area for a ride, you can leave the the purple/pink area.
Drive around for rides, you need to study the map. Know where the highest demand is at a given time.

Kevin Emilio Vlogs Awesome! Lyft is doing a huge promotion right now if you use my link in the description, with a sign-on bonus of up to $500! That's on top of you already making up to $40/hr as a driver. I believe they are trying to beat Uber, one of their biggest competitors. All you need is a car and a driver's license! A great smile helps too :)

What if you don't break the law? Why does lyft suspend you? A drunk girl stumbled onto the road and was bumped by our lyft driver on a Friday night. The Lyft driver was so stressed and concerned, we got out of the car and tried to find out if the girl was okay. She was ok. The driver asked to take her to be checked and but she and her friends were more eager to go to the club across the street. The driver insisted on taking her name and number and called Lyft to report it and to find out how she was the next day. We took it details too so as to also follow up. On calling the driver the next day and a few days to check up or be witnesses. The driver is still under suspension 2weeks now. We were there and saw what happened. The driver says that that is his only source of income and he is suffering because of this. I felt bad for him because he seemed like a good driver. Our ride was really good before it happened. I'd hate it if my job was that insecure. I don't know about your system but be considerate to your drivers.

Great tips. If I may add a couple...treat it as a business, not a job. Please take the time to go through your driver app and learn as much as possible about the service you're providing in the event a customer may ask you some questions. You look very professional. This thinking should also apply to the rider app. It doesn't matter if you're not a rider. Get to know the rider app as well. Too many times I've had a rider who can't figure out how to use the app properly and as a result it takes more time for them to include a stop along the way or change the destination address. By helping them navigate the rider app, it teaches them how to use it, and you add value to their experience. Treat it like a business, not a job. Make it about them, not you.

Solid content, didn't hear anything untrue. Thanks for posting.
But, I'll amplify a couple points...From experience to the rookies; absolutely verify your passengers; definitely save your receipts (all of them, anything you do or use in the car); stay legal and stay safe -
    don't drive like a moron.
Bottom line: this is a service industry guys and gals. We don't work for Lyft or Uber; they are our referral service. It's name recognition and they push fares our way. That's it in my mind.
I have no problem closing the opening spiel I give all my rides by saying "hey, I don't work for (X company), I work for you".
That does a few things right off the bat. For one, more often than not, it helps to lower that automatic guard-mode on getting in a stranger's vehicle. I.e., "see, we're in this together"... Already I'm building rapport.
Already offered to change the climate, music, charge their phones, verified name and destination and of course I've got water aplenty. Took 10 seconds.
"Oh wow, you're the best driver ever"...and I'm still in park, y'all.
    It's really that simple.
The bar has been set very very low for us serious drivers committed to safety and service (while still being quite profitable, thanks) by a bunch of clowns playing at being drivers.
New drivers: just ask yourself what you would want as a rideshare client.
Seasoned drivers: assess what you provide. Does it measure up?
    Stay safe and stay happy

When I tried to file my taxes, Uber and Lyft sent me back emails saying that because I didn't make over "3,000" individually with either company for the year, it wasn't even necessary for me to even file. As a driver, I highly disagree with number 9. I constantly have passengers thank me for driving the speed limit. They also complain to me about slow drivers. If I heard you correctly, you said you like it when drivers go slow. That is in direct contrast with every passenger I’ve talked to.

Sometimes the names are hard to pronounce so I always ask them how they pronounce their name and a profile picture will be helpful big time

You forgot to mention a couple of things
Is very good if you have USB charger port cuz some people phones are low And they really needed my charger
Taking it is good to have multiple good Chargers just in case someone phone is about to go dead but they don't have a charger I've gotten good ratings and good tips when I let a passenger know just in case you need I have extra charger cords and Chargers that you can use and a lot of passengers alike great you are awesome thank you so much

Here's the best advice... Don't drive for ride share if you want to make anywhere close to minimum wage, and want your car to last more than two years. It's a sucker deal after you factor in your taxes (40% independent contractor taxes) and your expenses and overhead. You are going to be making about 5 to 10 bucks an hour. That's just signing up to be a wage slave.

Starting the ride before the passenger gets in doesn’t happen too much nowadays. In the past, I’ve had drivers start the ride two minutes before they arrive. I always take a screenshot and send it to Lyft with a complaint.

Rideshare actually pay better than most company truck drivers with Walmart truck drivers being the only one that pays very well averaging around 100k a year. The only thing is you are using you own car. If you were to buy your own tractor trailer you would of course make a lot more. Some truck owner operator gross at 10k a week or even more but after fuel which is very expensive in trucks and also road expenses and company percentages you are left with probably half that or a little more. Also breakdowns are more often in truck since they work so hard pulling heavy loads and racking up miles after miles . Unless you have a new truck expect an expensive repair every few months or so. Then again you are driving a very large vehicle and have to put up with so many headaches like DOT regulations and a ton of other things associated with trucking. Ride share is a lot simpler and a more relaxed type of self employment. As a former trucker I find ride share very nice and always excited to go for a little drive in my little four wheeler. No more swinging over to make a turn or having to get out and look every time I have to back up. And the worst of all shifting 10 to 13 gears of standard transmission in traffic that is so tiring
