    The most important thing about a watch is how it looks. I think the spb143 looks better then the certina so get the one that you think looks the best. What's the point of having a better movement of you think the Seiko looks better

      Some people value accuracy over looks. I know both are important but when it comes right down to it a watch only has one job...to tell the time accurately.

    I've owned it for 1 year+, I've neglected my other watches every morning this is my go to watch. Wears like 11-12mm, very durable from scratches, drilled lugs and square shape makes it truly a strap monster, grey sunburst dial with slightly dome sapphire crystal very versatile.

      Same. I've got the SPB147, and I have to force myself to put it away in order to give wrist time to my other watches LOL. It really does wear like a 11-12mm watch. Seiko magic!

    If Certina offered a size somewhere in between 38 and 43 it would be a no-brainer. But those sizes are either a bit too small or too large for me. The spb143 has perfect dimensions.

    My many years of experience in the watch hobby have taught me several lessons. One of the most important is this: a watch is more than the sum of its parts. On paper, a watch can tick all the boxes but ultimately be disappointing. For this reason, the Seiko is infinitely superior to the Certina. Besides, the popularity of the Seiko says it all.

    Love it. Big fan of mid-tier Seiko's ( mm200, Sumo & currently wearing Willard) tempted by one of these. Equally as tempted by the new £900 Turtle's that are out in July - I despise the pointless date complication & since the ISO standards have changed that awful window is bannished to a far less prominent position on the dial ( I'd obviously prefer no date, but at least it's easier to ignore on all future certified Diver's ).
    Lovely watch, great long term review, very helpful, thank you 👍🏻👍🏻

    among a few very decent ones, incl. AT, SPB is my favorite one anyway. You can look at him all the time. This ascetic design and amazing dial fit perfectly. Of course we don't count the bracelet here, which sucks, but it's still a 'strap monster'

  • @martinharrison4245
    @martinharrison4245 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I purchased the earlier spb051, and although the 143 is nice, I don't think the price increase , justifies changing my 051. The bracelet on the 051 is better and the indices and domed sapphire, add a different quality on the 051. I think the indices look cheap on the 143, compared to the 051. Besides I've got the sla043, and it's a beautiful watch.

    Same grade lume in the Certina? Really? I have the Precidrive equivalent of that Certina diver, and the lume is horrible. (Edit: It is not horrible. It is quite decent. But it is "relatively horrible" compared to various well lumed Japanese watches I have owned.) It is even noticably beaten by my $90 Seiko 5 with stick hands, and it was beaten by a large margin by my SKX and my Citizen Promaster Diver. But I have also heard that the SPB143 has quite thinly applied lume relative to other Seiko divers. So it might be closer to my Seiko 5. And, maybe the automatic version of the DS Action Diver is better lumed than my Precidrive version as well. So that might even out things so that they are in fact very similar. That's a bit disappointing for the Seiko I would say. I expected it to be noticably better than the Certina based on my own experiences with the two brands.

    I love this watch. Unfortunately I've had movement issues with it recently. The 6R35 performs great on the timegrapher, yet sometimes the movement will just stop for no apparent reason while off wrist. This even happens when fully wound. A light tap on the watch gets the second hand moving again. Of course it's our of warrantee so I'm not sure what to do. Anyone else experience this issue?

    • @ThePlaiibox
      @ThePlaiibox 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had this exact issue with my willard with the same movement. The seconds hand would stop when over the minute hand and I thought it may be misalignment of the hands or something. Sent back under warranty and Seiko fixed it. I also mentioned a slight misalignment of the bezel and they also replaced the case which has resulted in perfect alignment. It did take about 3 months but all sorted now. I also have the spb213 62mas reissue and that has always been bang on. +3 secs a day. These movements are really hit and miss imo.

      I bought a new Willard SDB153, wore it for 4 months continuously and then took it off one night and left it on the nightstand dial up. Woke up next morning and it had stopped after only 8 hours! Took it back to Seiko for warranty inspection/repair and still waiting after 7 weeks. Really annoying because I was enjoying it heaps. Timekeeping was variable, initially very accurate out of the box but then slowly fell back. Not a big issue with me but the lack of resting power wasn’t good. UPDATE: I finally received my SDB153 back from Seiko Melbourne service centre after 11 weeks for a warranty repair and I’m pleased to say they’ve made a perfect job of it. They say they gave it a full service and in the process they corrected a misalignment of the hour hand which was out by 3 minutes. Watch looks perfect and is keeping very tight time. No complaints. Time will tell regarding long term reliability. Couldn’t buy a second keeper for the black rubber strap (desperately needed) but have since discovered that a slice of 26mm black (unshrunk) heatshrink does the job quite well.

The glass could have been better. It is nos as transparent as I like them . And the bracelet was an horror to set by myself when I bought this watch! Who did it? What the hell? Worse than the one on my MM300 SBDX017!

      Another thing about this Seiko. When I say it's a very accurate watch, it's a very accurate watch "ON THE WRIST". But, as my MM300, when the watch is put on the table, it's +10/+15 in 8 hours... So... +30/+45 theoretically in 24 hours... So, in the morning, you have to set again the watch with the stop second.
