Okay I definitely can see the appeal, it looks great in your wrist bro, but yes, the games with ADs and overhyped prices with the gray market are a major turn off. The SPB oozes tool watch vibe, the Rolex oozes brand recognition and flex 😅
Nice review and well articulated. I have both (well the SPB149) but I find myself wearing and enjoying the Seiko more. It's a more honest and worry free watch to wear.
@daveLin104 I know preowned ones are selling for less than retail. From a financial standpoint it makes no sense selling yours unless you need the $ to buy another watch. Best of luck 👍🏼
I sold my sea dweller 16600 over COVID as the prices for Rolex were ridiculous. Banked the money and bought an SPB143 as a replacement. The only affordable watch that scratched that itch.
My SPB143 was my first serious watch and also a wedding gift from my wife. So not only is it an amazing watch, it's super special to me. A Rolex is and always has been on the list but I think I've ticked the diver box for my collection with the perfect example already. I think an Oyster Perpetual 36 would be my ideal Rolex. Great video!
Happy for you to have gotten the submariner out of your system. 😄 The Black Bay 58 and the SPB143 look better anyway! Great video! I hope a lot of people watch this.
Last summer I walked into a store with my SPB143 and they had a new preowned 2021 Sub AND a BB58. To me, the Sub was the best looking and best feeling, but it was $13,500. The BB58 was $3,500 and I liked the BB58’s bracelet and bezel better than the Sub. The SPB143 is very good at what it is, but I don’t think it punches above its weight. And while the Sub is better in many ways than the BB58, it’s definitely not $10,000 better. If I have $13,500 to spend on dive watches, I’m taking a SPB143 ($1,100), a BB58 ($3,700) a BB GMT, ($4,100) and a Pelagos ($4,600). But if I can get a Sub at retail, then one watch is all I need, lol
I have the SPB143 and love it to bits. I do appreciate the Rolex Submariner as a watch of prestige and history, but having seen Grand Seikos and how well made they are, my next grail watch will probably be a Grand Seiko.
I was shopping around for a 16610 sub when they were still 6-7 thousand dollars, but after multiple trips to the AD I ended up getting myself a GS SBGN003 and I could not be happier with it, a catch myself staring at still quite regularly
Thanks for the comparison. The SPB143/SBDC101 is the watch that cured me of my lust for the Submariner. I tried and tried to justify paying $12k for a stainless steel Rolex and realized that I was just crazy. Sure, the Sub is objectively a better watch but it’s maybe $2-3K better, not $10k better.
The SPB wears a little lighter than the Seiko SKX007/009 and pretty similar to the sub. However the SPB feels like a true tool watch compared to the Sub and I absolutely love mine!
First off Miguel...as a Latino myself, thats sooo awesome you are doing these watch reviews. Not many of us Latino's are into high end watches and this videos helps a ton. I am the first latino in my family that is really into watches, so getting advice on what is good from my immediate friends and family members is un likely. I will pull the trigger on that Seiko SPB143...sometime this week, I want to get a great deal on it though!!! What was the name of that Tudor you have??? any videos on that one also?? I Love this Review Miguel!!! very very nice and well thought out!!!! subscribed and looking for more watch reviews. God Bless!!!
I got a double sided screw bracelet sized at my jeweller. Young man who checked me out was wearing a sub like this, I was in awe, it was absolutely beautiful in person. He would not let me handle it :( but what a pleasure just to get that close, congrats on getting your hand on one. That Seiko is gorgeous, and one that I would like to grab up one day as I will never get a subby but wow the subby really is something else. Fantastic video Mig!!!!
Thank you 🙏 for the support and I hope you get a chance thank o handle a sub, it’s a very well made Watch. However as I said in the video, it not worth the hype $! Take care my friend!
Great comparison. Thanks. Can you tell me more of the size of each model? It seems in the video that the Rolex is a little bit bigger. Is this true or are they the same (wearing on the wrist)? I have a 8" wrist so the size is important for me.
Thank you for the support the Seiko wears a little bigger but pretty much they’re very close. I believe I mentioned the specs of the watches in the video, I don’t remember off the top of my head. Good luck and happy holidays.
Miguel, I am torn between the bb58 gilt and this spb143. I don't care about the price difference I just want to choose the one that fits and wears the most comfortably (I have a slightly larger than 6.75" wrist but just below 7"). I notice you have a very similar wrist size. In terms of wear, which did you prefer?
Man this is a hard choice. Honestly the BB58 is going to wear more comfy, but there’s something special about the SPB, I can’t put my finger on it. I’ll say this, if you need a rugged watch go for the SPB as the case doesn’t scratch as easily as the BB58. However if you care about Precision time keeping, better finishing and ultimately (I hate to say this) Invest ability, go for the Tudor. If you have to the opportunity to see both in the metal before pulling the trigger, I highly recommend it. Best of luck and let me know the outcome!
@@SoCalWatchReviews awesome, thanks for sharing your experience Miguel! I kinda want more of a rugged travel watch that I won't be afraid to beat up. Think I'm leaning toward the SPB143. Thanks man!

I wanted an omega Seamaster professional Dive watch. I think these are better than Rolex submariners, but less desirable because its not really a status piece. I really love the aesthetics of the sub, but if I bought one, I would worry about wearing it, devaluing it with scratches, it getting stolen, etc. The Omega was still too expensive. I didnt want to spend $5000. I bought a christopher ward C60#tide Chronometer. Amazing watch. Amazing value. Im satisfied with my purchase and I dont pine for a rolex or an omega now. Seems like you did the same with Tudor. I look at my watch and it makes me feel good. I enjoy and am impressed with all the hard work and engineering it took to make that incredible movement and beauty. Cheers

More importantly, I'm happy to pick up many of the non-hyped brands at affordable price points. Omega, Zenith, Panerai..and my latest, Glashutte Original. I thought the same thing about the Rolex sub until I pulled the trigger and bought one, now that’s the only watch I wear! Nothing compared to a Submariner.

Great vid Miguel. Love both watches. I really do! Even though one of them is over priced (premium over retail) and made of that rare metal called "unobtainium" 😂
Great review , but have you considered the sla043 from seiko ? The quality of these sla models are comparable to the rolex in terms of build quality. At half the price of the rolex , these are beautifully made.
Thank you and of course I have, but it’s out of my price range. The SPB143 for me is what I could comfortably afford when I bought it and it’s been an amazing watch. Thank you 🙏 for watching.
@@SoCalWatchReviews I got lucky with mine at just over half retail price used. So I paid basically double the price of a spb 143 model. And it's worth it too. Is it worth 4x the price, well that's a tough call. The more you go into the higher bracket though, the harder it is to see the value for money. I've got a spb051 which was the first 62mas reimagining, and it's still a great watch. It was the first seiko really that had the higher price point that we are used to now. But it was a step up in quality from the normal seiko divers. You will get one one day , if you love the 62mas design enough. Good luck

I really enjoyed this video and comparison Miguel. It must have been amazing to get hands on with a Sub and speaking as someone who has (pretty much) come to terms with the fact that I’m unlikely to ever own one myself it’s actually comforting to know that although they are amazing watches, they aren’t necessarily the be all and end all.
The subby is manufactured to perfection, however to me it lost its tool watch appeal. Too big and too blingy for me. It became more of a flashy status symbol compared to it’s predecessor.
True that. I can buy ten submariners in one shot and think nothing of it but the AD games, Rolex artificial shortages have pissed me off. If the shortages were real they would have the same issues with Tudor. But in fact too many Tudors are made and are selling at deep discounts. Does not make sense? Buy the way my first Rolex was not as good as your Seiko and it cost me 800 dollars in 1987.
@@SoCalWatchReviews It was losing 35 seconds per day and I owned 2 as had the SPB147 as well and yes the problem was apparent on the SPB147 as well. My Longines Hydroconquest, Steinhart Ocean One and My Tudor BB58 are all within COSC so my thinking was why can't my SPB143 be even close to COSC and the answer is the movement is sub par. On looks alone the SPB143 beats them all bar the BB58 but even that is a close call visually. Losing 35 second a day may not be a problem if one changes their watch daily but I tend to wear my watches for weeks on end before I swap out so I noticed the terrible time keeping more.
U cant compare a Rolex to a Seiko, BUT when theres $15k+ difference in price involved then You can make an argument that the Rolex does not define the additional $15k+! Rolex is a jewelry hardly worn. while Seiko is a Great daily watch with a realistic price tag!
The Seiko - while being a very nice watch at a reasonable price point - is lightyears away from a Rolex Sub when it comes to fit, finish and movement. It's not even in the same ballpark. Not the same continent.
The 143 is terribly inaccurate. I owned two of them; the second one was even professionally serviced to no avail. The 143 is the best looking pos that I have ever seen:)
Nice video, but this is the typical argument given by those who can't afford a Rolex. Most people who have the funds to buy a Rolex do so and are very happy and satisfied with their acquisition. I'm pretty sure those who share your sentiment would buy their Rolex watches if they had the extra discretionary income and money was not an issue. They are excellent time pieces and are worth every penny the market price commands, whether it be low or high. There's a reason they hold their value and are highly sought after and it's not majority hype.
With a wrist just under 7.5”, I’m good with the diameter and LTL, but wish it wasn’t almost 14mm thick. It’s really my only complaint, outside of the mediocre timekeeping.
Okay I definitely can see the appeal, it looks great in your wrist bro, but yes, the games with ADs and overhyped prices with the gray market are a major turn off. The SPB oozes tool watch vibe, the Rolex oozes brand recognition and flex 😅

@@resjon7981 Got it, thank you for sharing.
U cant compare a Rolex to a Seiko, BUT when theres $15k+ difference in price involved then You can make an argument that the Rolex does not define the additional $15k+! Rolex is a jewelry hardly worn. while Seiko is a Great daily watch with a realistic price tag!
👍🏼 thank you for watching!
Like yourself the sub was my grail . I was lucky enough to get the 126610ln at retail. I own tudor and love them , but for me it's the sub a day long
Man congrats 👏 and thank you 🙏 for watching!
The Seiko - while being a very nice watch at a reasonable price point - is lightyears away from a Rolex Sub when it comes to fit, finish and movement. It's not even in the same ballpark. Not the same continent.
Agree, but it’s beautiful ❤️
The 143 is terribly inaccurate. I owned two of them; the second one was even professionally serviced to no avail. The 143 is the best looking pos that I have ever seen:)
I’ve heard they don’t keep great time. Since I rotate my watches so often I always have to set them so I’ve never noticed. Thank you for watching!
If they used a better movement in this watch, it would be best of all time. I really tried to love it:(
Algo push✌️
😊 ❤️
Nice video, but this is the typical argument given by those who can't afford a Rolex. Most people who have the funds to buy a Rolex do so and are very happy and satisfied with their acquisition. I'm pretty sure those who share your sentiment would buy their Rolex watches if they had the extra discretionary income and money was not an issue. They are excellent time pieces and are worth every penny the market price commands, whether it be low or high. There's a reason they hold their value and are highly sought after and it's not majority hype.
Thank you for watching and your comment.
Love submariner but the Seiko is most beautiful.
😊 thank you 🙏 for the support!
I can afford to buy a rolex submariner but i cant afford to dive it under salty water!!! But this seiko spb143 a can afford both!!!
💯
this watch can destroy subs / hold its current trading value, embarassing. but Daytona & Gmt still strong
👍🏼 thank you 🙏 for watching!
If I were a billionaire, I'd still only wear Seiko.
👏 thank you for watching!
Seiko all the way. Rolex ruining their own brand by literally not allowing people to buy their watches. I go with a seiko and grand seiko.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼
The Rolex is a piece of jewelry. Don’t confuse it with a watch.
💯
PROSPEX vs submariner
Great title!
Subs bore me, and they are robbery magnets. Seiko for me.
👍🏼
First!!
Thank you 🙏 ❤️
Seiko is to damm big
40mm is big?
With a wrist just under 7.5”, I’m good with the diameter and LTL, but wish it wasn’t almost 14mm thick. It’s really my only complaint, outside of the mediocre timekeeping.
Spb ... poor accuracy
I’ve heard a lot of different opinions from a lot of different people. I really wish Seiko would have more consistent QC.
Both overpriced. The logo is worth 90% of the tag 😁
😂
Seiko is just more beautiful 😊❤
