I would like to have a better movement (i have 6r15 and it is rubbish, this is basically the same movement with better power reserve) and a better value for money, which is a tradition in seiko products
Indeed especially on the bracelet, I put mine on a few different straps including the silicon strap from the SPB147 but quickly went back to the bracelet where it will stay for now.
Brought one, 58, never had a watch!! wanted a Sekio Alpinist, still love the alpinist, but looked to small on my wrist. Saw this diver, didn’t know the history or reference, looked balanced sharp and timeless, so pleased with my choice, and has given me an interest and appreciation of the history and talent of watch making,

Also that you showed how the watch looks on different outfits. Most watch reviews leave that out, but I really like to know how a watch looks with a shirt and how it looks with a sweater.

My SPB143 arrived this morning and it all lines up, so maybe they have their act together with this one, or I was just lucky!
Just got this watch as a present to myself for my 50th bday. Absolutely stunning in person. And I totally agree that a ceramic bezel would have been a very bad choice and not fitting for this watch. And that brushed bezel with the white numbers indented is gorgeous!
Yes I despise most ceramic bezels in classic looking watches. Take the Rolex sub for example. The ceramic bezel works on the maxi case but it looks awful on the 2020 sub that's more like pre ceramic sub.
Great review of this great watch. The most important watch Seiko has made for a while? Sure to be a smash. A classy and versatile piece, for me the only let downs are the clasp extension (not necessary on a casual diver) and the Prospex Logo. Without that logo it would look the equal of watches costing 3x as much (eg Tudor). While it carries the logo better than many new Seikos, it still cheapens it. The logo is too 'games console', or cliched (1990s) 'EXTREME!!' Some people don't mind/notice it, but would anyone miss it?
First video I’ve watched of yours and I’m so glad I did. You have a different style of reviewing and it’s refreshing because of the verbal punctuation you use throughout the video. Well done.
This is a spectacular video, pacing and visual wise. Specially loved the perspective from far away to see how it wears, it's something it's really needed. Earned a sub
Thanks a lot. Really appreciate reading that! Have a few nice videos pending, next one is a bit different and hopefuly a good watch, then some delicious (Grand?) Seiko goodness next! :-)
A good point about it being more comfortable on a strap. A universal truth for top heavy watches. My Tuna is more comfortable on a strap compared to a bracelet where it flops more for the same reason. I find this true of many full size dive watches. The 143 is undeniably beautiful as you say.
I agree, they nailed it. A lot of integrity in this watch, with no fake rivets like one of its competitors. It as the rugged good looks and soul of a Submariner but for only a thousand bucks! And you can actually buy one today! The perfect daily wear and adventure companion.
I took delivery of one last week and it is a very cool watch! Looks great, wears great, awesome all-night long lume, accurate to -15sec a day, bracelet fits like a dream.
I had the opportunity to try it out in a seiko boutique this weekend and absolutely loved it! Very impressed with the quality - the value for the price is astonishing ! Love your watch reviews, keep em coming 🤗 ! Cheers !
Excellent review. Not often that you see someone verifying details with the manufacturer. Beautiful footage, and I liked the on-wrist portion. Well done. 👍
If I didn't have a mm200 (sbdc065) I'd be looking at this watch very differently. Homerun from seiko. Nice review too! Much much better than most watch channels. You give us the facts, but also your own thoughts which add very well to the review. Most watch "reviews" are more like unboxings. This is proper, all the different shots are also a pleasure to my retinas :)
I like that it doesn't have any crown protectors and that the crown is at the 3 o'clock mark. I also like that it comes with a bracelet rather than rubber straps.
Just got it, it's just the perfect GADA. The people complaining about the X, well I don't really notice it. What no-one mentioned at all is that the bezel-insert is countersunk, so it's protected pretty well.
Why are people pushing Tuder so hard ? Set a $1000 watch down next to my Omega ($4400),and 99.9% of people will pick the one that is visually appealing to them. Let's assume they have the same basic complications, and depth resistance,if we're talking divers. I've owned a Seiko turtle 6309-7049 for 36 years. Been serviced a few times, but only because I whacked it with a 28 oz framing hammer. Just buy whatever iteration of the Turtle they're now producing, because no one will care that it cost you a grand. Unless it's a gift, then they're just ungrateful. I personally don't like the hour hand. Hey,that's just me. Buy what ya like, but if you're gonna pay a grand , why not save a few more, and buy something special to you. Can't remember who said it,but it should hurt a little, and make you question your sanity. I bought my Omega 300m after 2 years agonizing about it. Then I didn't buy the model I was agonizing over. Call me crazy, but I didn't want that "Look at me" watch. I live on a sailboat, i dive often, I paint mega yachts, so I'm fond of divers. Sorry, bit of a rant. Why is the Tudor on everyone's lips ? Watch collectors? I'm not suggesting they're not a good watch. I'm trying to understand all the hype.
That's marketing, getting the brand more exposed. I have the black bay and love it even though I find this watch a bit better looking it'll never make me feel the same way as wearing my Tudor. And I believe that was Archieluxury whom you heard say that quote that it must hurt to acquire a certain timepiece.
Watching this review while wearing the same watch. Got the 6R35 regulated on the same day I bought it a couple of weeks ago and it’s running within COSC since then :)
@@jeffdolgin7436 I think this settling in for a few weeks for a Seiko is a old wives’ tale that ppl pass around in forums without any substantiation. My watchmaker in HK, with over 30 years of experience, said that is simply not true for modern movements. And similarly, I quote a Jack Forster article in Hodinkee: “I asked one of New York's most respected watchmakers, Alkis Kotsopoulos, of Swiss Watch Repair Co., whether there is anything to the idea that a new watch needs to settle down on its rate for a few weeks before you can evaluate its accuracy. I mentioned this is something I've heard again and again, and said again and again but I didn't really know if it was true and he laughed. "I've said it a lot also," he said, "but I don't think it's really true."
Another killer review mate, thank you. Such a fantastic looking piece, my small collection is Seiko deficient, I think I have found the remedy to that problem. Keep it up ;-))
I was saving up on the side for a BB58, but since it was released I've more or less fallen out of love with it. The new blue one is quite nice looking and a local dealer had it in his window for a couple of days and now I have to admit that it doesn't do that much for me either. Then this one came along a couple of weeks ago and it does tick all the boxes for me and at a third of the price nonetheless. Basically the only thing holding me back is the fact that my collection is now about 2/3ths Seiko :)
I had a similar experience with the Black Bay 58. I thought it was the perfect watch when I saw it online but I was decidedly underwhelmed, disappointed even, when I tried it on in a store. Something about it just looks tinny or not solid enough. This model looks great.
Thanks! I have seen it yes, it is nice for sure, but I prefer this one personally as I found it the most versatile and also - not limited for extra points ;-) You should be able to try them both if you ask your seiko dealer nicely, with a bit of luck if you ask im advance they can arrange to have the different versions available for comparison (at least for now) 👍
I am also on the fence for deciding this or the SPB149. My local dealers are saying that their allocated stocks for 149 is sold out and they dont have this model yet. If the SPB149 was not limited edition, I would have waited until they both are at local dealer. So either I order the SPB149 now or later forget about it. I dont want to pay any more then list price on used market once they are sold out. These are already priced at the the higher side
Do you think that the new Seiko SPB143J1 can be considered the most authentic watch in the actual market to the original Rolex Submariner concept? In my humble opinion: 1) It is a real tough tool watch capable of diving and to assist the owner in every situation. 2) Still it can be easily dressed up thanks to the compact 40 mm size and the clean style. 3) It is not a luxury piece and costs less than a mean european salary. 4) It is produced all in-house from a long history company. Also, the line itself has very deep roots in the brand history. 5) You can buy it without having to wait and in a physical shop almost in every city. 6) could be a perfect candidate for a one piece collection.
Thanks, I currently have a black dial Tissot Gentleman as my one watch collection but was wanting a diver so I can use swimming. Hoping to buy the SPB143 (currently 25% off) and will consider selling the Tissot so I can have the SPB143 as my one watch collection!
I love mine . It is a little big on me but that's ok . It is just such a nice watch . The date is a bit small to see . The bracelet is good . I got mine on sale and saved $200 .
First of all thank you for making this video! Also what do you think about value for money here? Over $1000 for a seiko with pretty bad accuracy... I love the design and quality from what I can see over the Internet but accuracy of -15/+25 sec per day is just too much in my opinion. What do you think?
Most welcome and thank you for watching! I think it is excellent value for money personally. The movement is not the most accurate, it is still very new and untested but let's assume it will be as reliable (or more) than say the 6R15, it also now boasts a 70 hour power reserve. that is more than on a lot of much more expensive (but more accurate) watches out there. This is definitely more expensive than say Seiko 5 prices, but the quality is also a lot better. I don't think there is anything out there right now, from any brand, in this style, that brings as much value to the table. Mind you this is a mechanical watch, so when I say value it implies also the emotional value - not the mere sum of its parts :-)
Ah and to your point: Seeing it on the internet would not be enough to get me to buy this personally, I was on the fence nyself until I held it in my hands. If possible definitely check it out in the metal first (pretty sure you'll love it if you like Seiko diverswatches)
astro boy yikes! My explorer is behind 9 seconds after almost 6 weeks of daily wear. That kind of accuracy will take some getting used to. Still this is probably my favourite non Rolex diver!
Couldn’t help bu notice a mistake: it says you have 2.56k subscribers when, in fact, the decimal should be moved 2 places to read 256k. Please sort this error out with TH-cam and keep up the fantastic reviews!! 🤙🏼
I just picked one up. I can't find something I don't like about it. It hasn't left my wrist in the 2 weeks that ive owned it. I got it instead of a BB58, and im positive i made the right choice
Bought the mm200 great blue hole last year and maybe i should have waited a little longer. This thing looks very simple and elegant! Seiko made a great watch here!
Good review although, you mention that one should spring for the bracelet but then, you mention that it wears best on a strap. Hmm, I get your meaning although, if your bracelet is going to sit in a drawer most of the time I have to wonder it it's worth it?
Really nice review of a gorgeous seiko diver watch!!! It fits on your wrist quite well too. How many inches is your wrist though? I am seriously thinking about buying this specific spb143 but i am also worried about my a bit smaller than 7 inc wrist. What do you think?
Just some advice, when you rock a suit your shirt sleeve needs to poke out further than the jacket sleeve... by at least a cm! Just watch any Bond movie when he’s in a tux :) Watch looks great though!
I agree. Outstanding watch. Note that its antecedent was introduced in the same year as the Rolex Submariner. The only dive watch that was earlier was the Blancpain 50 fathoms, which Seiko did take some guidance from, as did Rolex
Very nice review! I bought mine about a month ago, but mine doesn't perform as well as it should, I gain about 45s/day which is out of specs, should I do something about it? How about yours now?
I’m a terrible romantic, I rarely check accuracy on my watches once I fall in love 😄🙈 45 sec a day is not ok for this Calibre, you would be fully correct to have it checked out by your AD (at no extra charge) 👍
Which one if I may ask? GS has released more than a few beauties 😅 If you are patient, you can still find good deals on GS which are in any case stellar value 👍
@@degriff I want a springdrive. I'm looking at sbga375. But also looking at sbgw235. I've got sbgn005 and SBGT241. Phenomenal watches. The bad thing about stepping up to a GS is that it ruins anything in the lower price bracket
Pros and cons of 143 vs 149. I can get one or the other. Have a 001 MM300 and dark green sunset MM200 in my collection - thoughts? My feeling is the blue/grey dial will be a better choice since the 001 MM has a similar dial to the 143.
Given you have the MM already, I would maybe tend for the 149 for added color? But the 143, despite the dial color, is a very very different watch from your MM. Can’t really go wrong with either! 👍
Quite frankly, I prefer this. But - just got the (perfect) king turtle so not looking to add this. This one is 🔥🔥🔥 but also quite a bit more expensive. Have to calm down a bit before the next acquisition :-) Thanks for the sub! Next review is a (fantastic) GS GMT
I like this as much as I like the BB58, which makes it amazing value. The design might also age better vs vintage inspired ones. I’ll be getting the blue kamasu first though!
*_It is difficult to justify a Tudor Black Bay 58 instead of this, at triple the price for the Tudor._* This Seiko falls a little bit short with its Spron balance spring versus the silicone equivalent in the Tudor if hyper-resistance to magnetism is paramount.(Such as for aircraft cockpit crew). Also its 3Hz beat rate versus 4Hz in the Tudor might be a mental obstacle for some folks, and the Tudor's chronometer certification is nice to have. The 6Rxx movements can be easily regulated to operate well inside COSC limits, and if necessary this procedure costs A LOT less than the massive price difference. The Seiko wins with its domed AR crystal (the Tudor is also sapphire but not domed or installed with AR coating) and in terms of water resistance, legibility, durable reliability and long life they are about the same. The Seiko beats the Tudor with a SS bezel and hard case coating, and its non-fake-riveted bracelet. Winner? *This is subjective of course but The Seiko will outsell the BB58 by many multiples.*
Yes, good points. Also if you try to get a BB58 some ADs play hard to get - are you a preferred customer? For what it's worth this Seiko is not limited, so hopefully the range can have a good long run.
This is literally everything I’ve been wanting from Seiko.
Exactly! 😆🙌
Yessss!
very very nice watch. no more modding the cheaper seiko variants. need to look for the money to buy it first
I would like to have a better movement (i have 6r15 and it is rubbish, this is basically the same movement with better power reserve) and a better value for money, which is a tradition in seiko products

One of the best looking watches currently, in any price category.
I bought one yesterday and I absolutely love it!!! I put it on a US waffle strap and it rocks. My best (Seiko) diver ever!
Indeed especially on the bracelet, I put mine on a few different straps including the silicon strap from the SPB147 but quickly went back to the bracelet where it will stay for now.

The rarest of all Seiko watches - the only one with a properly aligned bezel!
Haha, I know exactly what you mean, thanks for the genuine laugh! 😂👍🙏
If it's not misaligned, is it even a Seiko?
These newer pieces appear to have better QC

This is Seiko's answer at last to the Submariner of old in every way.
Great watch and video. Glad this watch brought me to your channel. Good stuf you produce.
Thank you! Much appreciated, finalizing another one right now, should be up one of the next days here :-)
Seeing this on a leather strap brings the Sinn 104 to mind, for me anyway. Really great looking watch!
Very informative. I bought to SBDC105, very unique color.
Thanks a lot and congratulations! :-)
Concise, informative and a pleasure to watch. Needless to say, the SPD143 is lovely.
Thanks a lot!
Jesus Christ this is a visually perfect watch.
77: *_I don't love the lugs BUT on a NATO they do look better. This is a minor nit-pick, the overall look is still very attractive._*
Thanks. The best review I have seen on this watch! Question - do you think this watch can be worn worn with a suit for work?
Thank you! Yes, absolutely, without any hesitation or doubt
I like the way you think, thanks for the reply!
astro boy yikes! My explorer is behind 9 seconds after almost 6 weeks of daily wear. That kind of accuracy will take some getting used to. Still this is probably my favourite non Rolex diver!
astro boy you’re actually right! I thought about more and realized that your watch is doing very well with accuracy :) thanks for letting me know 😁
Great video very informative still waiting on mind for three months now. Slow coming into Canada 🇨🇦🤞hopefully soon 👍
Thanks! I think they should start trickling in any day now 🥂 Congrats!! Wonderful watch
Great review! One question : I love the t-shirt, what brand? Where did you bought it? :)
Haha thank you! T-shirts not for sale, should we add these in the shop?
diameter, thickness, lug to lug, but no lug width in the 60 seconds?
Good job on including lug to lug though! arguably more important than diameter
Best vid I’ve seen about this watch.
Thank you!
Great video, thank you!
Thanks for watching and the kind feedback! 🙏
Couldn’t help bu notice a mistake: it says you have 2.56k subscribers when, in fact, the decimal should be moved 2 places to read 256k. Please sort this error out with TH-cam and keep up the fantastic reviews!! 🤙🏼
This genuinely made me first frightened and then laugh with relief 😂 Thanks so much for the kind and encouraging words, highly appreciated!!! 🙏
Great review, sir. Thank you for doing it.
Thanks so much for the positive feedback!
I just picked one up. I can't find something I don't like about it. It hasn't left my wrist in the 2 weeks that ive owned it. I got it instead of a BB58, and im positive i made the right choice
Can’t wait to receive mine🤗
A total beauty, I'm sure you will enjoy it :-)
Nice one 👍🏼
Did you get it for yourself too or just to review? I'm hesitant between this and the new Willard 😬
This one was for review... but I’m afraid I got bitten and need to place that order now 🙈😅 A real beauty
Nice review
Pin and collar are my favorite. I've had screw links get loose.
Love the t-shirt ! Do you sell them? Couldn’t find it on your website 😕
Very good review, thank you!
Very well produced video
Thanks a lot for the positive feedback Daniel! :-)
Very good done. Thanks mate
Thanks a lot Igi, much appreciated!
Great video! Well done.
Thanks a lot 🙏🥂
Bought the mm200 great blue hole last year and maybe i should have waited a little longer. This thing looks very simple and elegant! Seiko made a great watch here!
Good review although, you mention that one should spring for the bracelet but then, you mention that it wears best on a strap. Hmm, I get your meaning although, if your bracelet is going to sit in a drawer most of the time I have to wonder it it's worth it?
Yes it is worth it imho, it makes for a nice change once in a while 👍 But then, I’m a serial strap/bracelet changer so perhaps not the best example 😸
Really nice review of a gorgeous seiko diver watch!!! It fits on your wrist quite well too. How many inches is your wrist though? I am seriously thinking about buying this specific spb143 but i am also worried about my a bit smaller than 7 inc wrist. What do you think?
Thank you! 7” is absolutely perfect for this. Mine is 6.5 for reference :-)
What SKX watch are you wearing in vid while presenting this one?
Thanks for asking :-) It is this one right here th-cam.com/video/2_pKkktwteg/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for showing how it wears from distance with different outfits, it adds a lot of value to the review
Thanks for the added insight!
Are you wearing an SKX while reviewing this? Would love a size comparison on wrist
Was wearing the turtle (separately reviewed on the channel) - it definitely wears larger than this SPB
Excellent editing, just found your channel. New sub here brother!
Thanks a lot sir! Much appreciated 🙏
@@degriff Hahaha alright, thanks tho ;)
Awesome presentation,thanx for sharing.subscribed
Great to hear, thank you! 🙏
This looks killer, but why won't they just add a signed crown?
First thing that's pissed me off. At the price it's a must have. Bonkers.
this shall remain a mystery forever... I don't get it either (but it doesn't bother me)
Rolex has sterile case backs so I have no problem with a sterile crown.
Don't get the 58 comparison - bigger watch and has a date window- but certainly a great alternative to many current dive watches
Bb58 kills this watch
Saw the watch today at 6 marker is not aligned, watch on the video too. Seiko QC issue..
Nice review! What is your wrist size for reference ?
Thank you! It is approximately 16.5cm (6.5”)
Great vid man
Thanks a lot Wafiy, much appreciate the feedback!
This might be the best looking diver on strap after the rolex sub
No, before the Sub. The Rolex looks like a 500 dollar watch, while this one looks like 5K.
Does this also work on the larger wrist? That is my question when I see this beautiful piece. So 8" or more. A certain wrist presence I like
I genuinely don’t see why not 👍 Try before you buy if possible
i have a 18cm wrist and it wears like a dream.... To be more specific, it has a very similar fit with the Submariner
@@oaoaoas Thanks both for the reaction! I will indeed check it out in person and try, because it is a serious beautiful piece. Goed weekend
I have the blue LE version. It is very nice, but not perfect. The bracelet clasp could be better and the date change take over an hour (why!??).
Hahaha! I have some vintage Seikos, where the date change takes like 3 hours! lol count yourself lucky
Its a beautiful watch but at this price I'm not pulling over but continuing to drive to Grand Seiko Town.
I hear you. Making a quick stop for this watch....then on to GS town for me too.
Just wait. I have a strong feeling that GS is going to release a 40mm spring drive diver in the near future
Nice review. Thank you.
Thanks a lot. Much appreciated!
Great review 👍 Cool watch 👍
Thanks Gergely! Great to see you here by the way! 😄
Great review, I am late to the party but love mine.
Just checked one out in boutique. Lovely.
Agreed! Did you grab one?
Pros and cons of 143 vs 149. I can get one or the other. Have a 001 MM300 and dark green sunset MM200 in my collection - thoughts? My feeling is the blue/grey dial will be a better choice since the 001 MM has a similar dial to the 143.
Given you have the MM already, I would maybe tend for the 149 for added color? But the 143, despite the dial color, is a very very different watch from your MM. Can’t really go wrong with either! 👍
AND it’s not absurdly a “limited edition”. Thank goodness
How do you like it compared to your King Turtle? Excelent review, keep the videos coming subbed for sure.
