Hands down, sun dry your basil! So much more flavor than dehydrator even on lowest setting. I've dried herbs for years, last year my dehydrated was full so I put basil out on towels and covered with a tiny netting tent, like you cover food at a barbeque...😄 And WOW, so much more flavor!!!
Thank you! She always seems to know when the camera’s on!

nice tips! thank you! i do have one tip to get the bags "vacuum": when you nearly close the bag, dunk it in water with just the last inch of the bag dry, then close it up.
I chop my basil in my food processor with olive oil and put it in ice cube tray. After they are frozen I wrap each one in Saran wrap and freeze in a ziplock bag. Absolutely hands down the best way to do basil.
I dried my herbs last year. This year I've put them into my freezer. Love your cigar way and using the straw for doing that. Also, the one putting them into bags for drying in your car. Great tips - Thanks!
I’m impressed, Never thought of drying in a vehicle. Everyone can do this! Thanks for sharing, I love growing my own herbs too. It’s very economical and fun. A big bang for your effort. Also that car is pretty cool, the best looking dehydrator I’ve seen! 💕😂🎉
I cut the branches and hang them in a dark reasonably warm place. Once the branches are pretty dry, I cut some of the big branches off and put the herbs in paper bags for a few days. Then I put the herbs into jars and open the jar each day until the herbs go firm again and close, and do this for at least two weeks, until curing is done.
Thank you so much for the great tips ! I just tried an herb garden for the first time this year. I had no idea how to harvest or when or preserve them 🤷♀️ 😅
Love that you have so many herbs in yr deck! I have 2 go down a flight of stairs 2 get 2 my herbs. I do the same thing with straw and freezer bags 4 my dried herbs or whatever I freeze. Love yr csr. P.S. My very 1st comments on yr channel. Just fnd u 2day. Itt was yr lemon ginger in honey video. This is my 3rd one 2 watch. Where in US r u located?
Love the car method! I used to put bathtubs in there to dry..it's country but works lol. I presently use the other 2 methos...or put I a mesh bag to dry...problem is I forget to label..so I go by smell when I forget...
Re: recipes w/o herbs It may depend on the region where the recipe originated. In Italy, they actually use very little seasoning in their cooking because the ingredients themselves-tomato, peppers, cheese, etc. have so much flavor. American-Italian cooking uses a lot of seasoning to compensate for the missing natural flavor.
Hi Angelina - Thank you! I'm glad you asked that question because I linked a smaller size! I've been using the 30 gram size. I've added its link above to Amazon.
I usually bring them in some time in the late fall. That’s usually when I get around to storing them. Unless I need the earlier than that. It takes a few weeks for them to dry completely.
What's your favorite method for preserving and storing your herbs? Let us know in the comments!

Hi! Thank you so much for your comments! The herbs on the deck are convenient, for sure. I'm in Stamford, CT. (Zone 7B)
I couldn’t believe how you used the straw to suck out the air! I do the same thing!
It works!!!

American-Italian cooking uses a lot of seasoning to compensate for the missing natural flavor.
That is a very good point. I still love my seasonings tho.
@@theladysgardenandhome Absolutely. Food in the US needs it for sure.
Thanks. Good video. Good drying. I use inexpensive 5 tier dehydrator and hanging method for garlic and some herbs. I use jars to keep herbs.
Those dehydrators do an awesome job and I see alot of people use them to dry fruit and veggies too. If I had the space, I'd love one!
What do to preserve them like sage.
what labels you use? The ones I bought don't stick well
Hi, here are the ones I use for my larger jars: amzn.to/3CynW6F
The Spice Jars come in a kit with the labels included: amzn.to/3WVNOS3
What size dissicant & where do you buy them
Hi Angelina - Thank you! I'm glad you asked that question because I linked a smaller size! I've been using the 30 gram size. I've added its link above to Amazon.
How long do you leave them in your car?
I usually bring them in some time in the late fall. That’s usually when I get around to storing them. Unless I need the earlier than that. It takes a few weeks for them to dry completely.
@@theladysgardenandhome Thank you! Sounds easy enough!👍♥️
How do save your sage
Hi- I dry it the same way I do the basil.
Good bye
