This is pretty much EXACTLY what I'm doing. But I'm coating a u shaped frame from them with oil, and leaving the doors. The doors will be my accent colour and I'm going to stick vinyl on them. That way I can swap out the entire colour scheme in the future with ease.

YAY ... did not think varnish on top of wax was a thing !
I wouldn’t normally as wax is a repellent. I guess it is like using a stain in this case. Looks ok though.

Is there a need to apply some rubber profiling between the wood floor and the bottom of the unit to prevent squeaking?
