  • @alymorning2961
    @alymorning2961 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Folks I don't think you need to cover a whole panel with sound deadening materials, a square patch or 2 is sufficient for it to do it's job, it's both heavy and expensive and you really only need it on large vans and panels.

    • @buggs9950
      @buggs9950 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, it only to reduces resonance by adding weight to the panel. I also can't really see most wheel arches or floors being worth sound deadening at all. They are heavy gauge metal with usually almost no large flat areas to resonate. Sure it may help a bit but nowhere near as much as as it does on the exterior panels.

    I've found that the sound deadening works great, but I abide by the 25% rule; after that it decreases the decibel level but it does not actually deaden the van any further. After the 25% I move over to sound insulating foam - it's lighter, does not deaden but that is already achieved - and decreases the db levels.

      i have to agree. I think its good advice to put the moisture barrier as the most inner layer to stop moisture from reaching your insulating layers.This will stop the moisture reaching the outer/colder layers where it would condense and cause water in the bottom the cavity - basically avoiding what he said at the start if the video. i can't understand why these professionals don't follow basic principles for this.

    • @chrishoulding5065
      @chrishoulding5065 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@athertop So what happens when you get moisture behind the vapour barrier which I believe would be bound to occur at some point however well you think you have done it. It would be trapped and have nowhere to go and rot your van. Ventilation is the key to keeping moisture from condensing and trying to seal a van up is counterproductive. think these videos are really professional and make practical sense but at the end of the day its your vehicle and your choice but just because someone has a different opinion it doesn't make it invalid or unprofessional.

    Great vid. For the floor of the van, wouldn’t it be better to use block based insulation such as celotex or kingspan?

    Can you send me link for two inch fleece, please

    Does it matter if you put the 10mm and 2mm in the other order as I have used the foam insulation and was wondering if I could put the 2mm mat on top of that.

    None of these products are available in the U.S.A. Do you know of equivalent U.S. products?

    I’m not convinced you need it . Maybe is some countries depending on weather , I’ve slept 8n the uk in cars basic vans and insulated van I can’t tell any difference, yes put a heater in and you can tell the warmth, we spend years in cars with no rust problems, they key is a heater to keep it dry and ventilation.

    Hi when you say pre clean do you use anything specific, or just a spray cleaner from under the sink ?

    • @CombeValleyCampers
      @CombeValleyCampers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A solvent based cleaner such as panel wipe, or brake cleaner, would be fine

    Why is none of the insulation or sound deadening required for the metal beams in between the panels? On the top half they looked like they were also part of the outside metal.

    • @CombeValleyCampers
      @CombeValleyCampers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Doug. You can sound deaden and insulate every square inch of the vehicle if you wish, however, in terms of practicality and cost, the level of product application you see in this video is adequater for our environments and how most people use a camper. In colder climes or round the world travel, I would advise further research into overall insulation.

    What's the advantage to putting in thermo van liner and then fleece, vs just putting in some fleece/rock wool/mineral wool? I'm guessing it's *additional* sound proofing? but maybe there's some advantage with the closed cell foam?

    • @CombeValleyCampers
      @CombeValleyCampers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robin. The thermo van liner does two jobs as you say. It serves as a great sound barrier (external noise) and sound deadener (panel resonance) as well and thermal properties with the closed cell foam.

  • @stevenmarry6845
    @stevenmarry6845 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice vid, could just the van liner be used under the fleece?

    • @CombeValleyCampers

  • @SidtsaraTTP
    @SidtsaraTTP 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    hiya. why would i need touse a sound deadener AND then another deadener insulation on the top? Why not just use the deadener/insulation

    • @philipjelley4777
      @philipjelley4777 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They do different jobs. The thin deadener adds mass to the panel stopping resonance, the booming sound when you tap a panel. The thicker, foam materials absorbs energy and is usually used to reduce airbourne noise. If you cover aargebthin panel with a lightweight foam it'll absorb the airbourne, but it'll still boom in sympathy with lower frequencies

    Is it possible to get a ballpark figure as to very roughly how much it would cost to fit this insulation? I have a 2004 ford transit van which has been converted into a liveable van and it’s not insulated. I was wanting to do the ceiling and walls only at this stage . I know it would be a very rough figure but just want to know a estimate please to see if it was worth it or just work on getting a new van thank you
