Great to meet you and Chloe on the Saturday Sam and thank you for the video. It covers a few bits and pieces I didn’t get time to see. Thank you also for highlighting some N gauge projects at Revolution. These guys have taken a fair chunk of my money over the years and continue to have deposits for new N gauge items way out into next year and beyond. Glad you and Chloe had a good time and hope had a safe journey home in the weather. Best
And you too Adam - that's lovely to hear! haha I've seen things posted that I missed too - so easy to miss things! Really gotten a new appreciation for Revolution after this... will look at more of their gear for sure! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Super video Sam. Thanks for stopping by our Revolution Trains stand and thanks for inviting us to add some humour to your video. It was nice to finally meet you both.
I believe that vibrant looking GWR green is done like that because the number of that specific pannier tank is the number that Duck from Thomas & Friends wore in the railway series.
Hi Sam, great review of the exhibition, many thanks. I'm sure you know this but I understand the NEC hire out space in their exhibition halls on a 'sq footage' basis, this was the same in 2024 for NatFest as would have been for Warley previously. That means that organisers pay for what they use (odd given that no-one else is going to use the rest of hall 5) but that's what the NEC do! So while a bigger exhibition might be welcome in future, it could also come with higher ticket prices. For me £20 advanced for a 1 day was fair value.
Great vid Sam, really enjoyed this video. I was there on the Sunday - but I didn't see you anywhere! I would say the Model World Live show was much better, so maybe have a a look at that one next year?
Recently ordered the Accurascale J69 GER No. 87 version, so I’m excited to get it after all the build up. The Hornby J13/J52 announcement surprised me. I did think they were riding the coattails of Rapido again, but apparently not. It is fitting though since their vintage J13 tooling could do with an upgrade.
Thank you for producing this so promptly. It complimented Jenny Kirk's live coverage nicely. Personally, I like the fact that Rapido and Hornby are not perceived to be arguing over J13s. Also, in the past, there has often been more than version of a model by more than one manufacturer. I do like the look of the Hornby Flirt in the flesh, even though it is not cheap. One thing Jenny Kirk highlighted in an interview with Oxford Rail yesterday was how their progress has been hampered by, unless I misunderstood, what happened to Lyndon at the end of Warley last year and how he has subsequently apparently lost his sight. They are bouncing back though. I just wish they could sell some replacement motors for their Dean Goods and Adams Radials! Please keep up the great work.
My lad and Chloe met you near the Hornby Playtrains early in the day Sunday. It made his day extra special. Uses your videos to determine whether to buy or not.
I was there, helping on the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway stand, had a chance for a look around. While I didn't think it was as good as Warley, it was still an enjoyable show. I hope it comes back bigger and better next year!
Wonderful insight of the OO scene Sam. Something baffling us is why "product duplication" is or should be such an issue. Why not have a choice. It's quite normal here on the European continent that you can pick a loco from 4 or 5 makers. Each have their pros and cons, and the buyer then decides. It's been that way every since as we can remember, and why not. It's healthy competition 🤷 Cheerio.
I’m so happy to see Hornby actually communicate with Rapido to ensure there no prototype duplication. Shows that they can still accept some feedback from the community.
Great overview Sam, and I think we can say that we're going to be spoiled over the coming year, and there will be something for everyone. An idea for the Hornby-Rapido J13 project a double box with a Rapido and Hornby model, that would be an original one, and equal split sales for both, everybody happy… Perhaps what we also missed are the new announcements of "Sam's Era 1 trains"😜 PS. Thank got there where miniature cows, or you would be going alone next year mate😉🤣
I saw J13 amd tbh, its pretty good. That pannier is amazing for the roght reason and also toy trains is kind of cute. Bertha coming out. Man new models coming out is always exciting
Ohh man, those austerities look amazing 😮😮 hornbys flirt looks nice as well, and that rod class j36 is a strange oivery as you say! Glad you got to drive a real train sam! Awesome video as always sam :)
They really do don't they! Yeah the Khaki isn't what I expected - very cool. Super fun to drive that train - very satisfying! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Another invite, the Amherst Railway Society train show is January 25th and 26th 2025. The largest trainshow in the US, possibly the world! 350,000 square feet of model trains across four giant buildings in Springfield, Massachusetts. Obviously a bit of a haul for a Brit, but we'll worth the journey atleast once!
@SamsTrains hope you make the journey someday! There are people that come from all over the world and make the trip like a pilgrimage to the holy city, it's pretty nuts. They literally fly into New York City and make their way to Springfield whilst stopping into all the local hobby shops along the way
Thanks so much Steve - it is indeed - £20 for the show would be fine, but car parking, food, and certainly travel are very expensive there! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
It was great to see good looking Chloe and her beautiful thumb at the end and you got to operate a train Woo Hoo! You covered the venue very well, but I was hoping for the two jovial fellas at the Revolution stand to get some interview time after seeing their antics in the background. I could see that Sam's Trains fame preceded you by the inclusion of the cars you made on a layout, nice. All I can say is well done you two. Jersey Bill
haha thanks Bill - yeah the train drive was amazing! Yeah unfortunately I'm not set up for interviewing as I only had the radio mic... I might look at bringing more equipment in future, but do try to travel light as we're on our feet both days and have to carry everything a long way from the car park, haha! Such an honour to see my own cars on that layout Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Superb video Sam, personally I was a little disappointed, it was certainly smaller than Warley, no Bachmann either which was a surprise. But hopefully it will be build back up over future years. One noticeable positive I must add was on the Saturday when I visited, that there seemed to be a lot more younger visitors. I’m 55 and there lots my age and over but many more younger which was pleasing for the hobby. I’ll be back 👍🏻
You had fun and that's what matters. Maybe next year, I'll ask Ryan if he can take me there, so I can find you and Chloe. I might try and sneak up on you and scare you stiff, lol. I'd love to meet you and Chloe in the flesh.
Not surprised that the show was much smaller. I was privileged to hear from a well known trader who was absent from the show, the level of charge for a position at the show. The numbers in attendance seemed low in your presentation.
I got to go too. Found it very fun, and saw interesting model layouts which were nothing like ones I'd ever seen, and I enjoyed seeing Douglas, it was the one engine I hadn't seen at the Talyllyn. Great event, but did get overwhelmed after a bit.
I can't blame you at all - and the walk from the car park was terrible this time due to the rain... you can take the shuttle bus if you don't mind standing waiting... we decided we'd rather be walking in the rain than standing in it, haha! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The 75 appeal for the tallylyn isnt for the loco, one of the big things is a new work space/carriage shed to help with overhauls. Gutted I missed ya sunday, but great updates :)
I have to admit, this seems like a great event. Unfortunately, for someone who's not living in the UK, going on holiday to see shows like this is not worth it. Its a shame. But man, the models are exciting. My favourite is the J36 and M7 in that transitional livery. As much as they are over-priced today, I pre-ordered the J36 which is something I don't usually do. I wait for the proper release to look at it in stores and whatnot. In Germany there is one Hornby supplier I like to order from. But I want both. I have the T9, D11 and J83 in this livery. I love the transitional era. The final hurrah of the colorful liveries before BR Green and Black. Then the Hunslet by Accurascale are something else. The coal guard on the rear windows looks impressive. You got me, I want one. The rounded cab version you showed is very unusual and reminds me of the Lambton Colliery tank no. 29. The Rapido 01 looks amazing too. I want Bramble in Bluebell Railway livery, as well as my Accurascale P Class which ie hopefully here by Christmas. Lastly, the J13 situation. I was a bit irritated by Hornby's post at first and disappointed in their decision to replicate Rapido's offering. But when both announced that they were collaborating, it made me relief. So yeah, I like the fitted lamps of the Hornby model a lot. But is it enough to warrant the higher price? Idk. I haven't heard of the specs yet but maybe it's heavier than the Rapido? If Hornby does it to the standard of the TTA Tanker it will be absolutely amazing. Great video, Sam 👍 greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
It sure was good! But no, I can't blame you for not wanting to travel over-seas to get to them! Ahh yes the transitional liveries are great aren't they? The Hunslets are locos to watch... mark my words! I'll be very interested to see the specs of Hornby's J13... Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Sorry to have missed you Sam, I wondered if you might be there, we had the Buggleskelly Station stand in the centre all weekend. The large amount of space at the end of the hall proved essential for getting our stands out on Sunday evening in the torrential rain as all the vehicles could get in at once, so from a trade POV it was much better. It was also a hell of a lot better organised than Warley which I think was getting to the point where it was too big for volunteers. We'll be back next year anyway :)
Hi Sam, great review. Ive been to warley at the nec the last 2 years but thus year done both statfold barn events. With a 7 year old theres more to do so cant see me going back to the nec for a while. Maybe worth a look as both events have been great.
Would've loved to go there. There's a model exhibit in Paisley coming up in two weeks though, so I may be able to go to that again. 1:24 I plan on pre-ordering a Manning Wardle, their liveries look quite stunning for an ancient 0-6-0! 1:55 Looks suspiciously like a certain pannier tank who featured in a series of books, perhaps it waddles too?
Ahh excellent - hope you can get out there to that then! The Manning Wardles look stunning don't they? And yep - quack quack! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Nice one Sam. Nice to see progress on some of the models I have pre-ordered. They should have filled up the empty space with more exhibition layouts. As it's RM Web, did they have a rivet counter, older moaning, smelly men stand?
Thanks mate - it's all very exciting isn't it? Yeah would have been nice to have seen a few more stands there to be honest! haha I didn't see one!! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Entertaining and informative - thanks, Sam! The Mysterious Mystery of the Two J52s is indeed odd - presumably, the two firms will be charging much the same price, but we shall see...
@@SamsTrains O well - maybe it'll have Special Extra Features? A rather obscure prototype, anyway, though the preserved example was active on railtours in the early 60s. I think I'll save up my pennies for an Accurascale Hunslet!
For DCC Ready: - The Rapido J13/J52s have an RRP of £164.95 or about £141.21 at model shops - The Hornby Hunsletts have an RRP of £174.99* or about £157.49 in the model shops. Based on that the Rapido one's about £16 cheaper at the retailers. * HOWEVER, if you buy direct from Hornby you can potentially use a voucher code for 10% off the RRP AND if you're a club member will get 15% in Reward points towards a future purchase that works out as about £133.87 so about £8 cheaper than the Rapido. And if you wait until Hornby do one of their offers e.g. double points or £50 off when spending over a certain amount you can reduce that further. Extra tip: Use both a cashback site AND cashback card to save a bit more.😀
I was there on Saturday. Lots of lovely new models, almost too many. My Wallet says I can't buy them all, so I'm going to have to choose my favourites carefully, especially as I already have some pre-orders outstanding.😐🤔 I thought there were fewer layouts than at Warley, as well as no Dapol or Bachmann, but hopefully next year they'll be a few more and it was still good with plenty to see. N.B. Also found out some more good news. I've been wondering what happened to Hattons tooling for their genesis coaches as I'd not heard anything about what happened to it. After asking a couple of manufacturers I discovered all the Hattons toolings were bought and who by. Apparently they do currently plan to produce some more genesis coaches at some point in the future, though I don't know if they've decided a timeline yet.
Hey Sam, really enjoyed that 🎉 just like going. Good to see the collaboration with Hornby and Rapido, much, much better. Interesting new stuff to come. How far away are the O1s do you think? Great background music too, really liked that, is it in the library?
21:15. Sam, have you ever reviewed a Shay? I'd love to see one. The mechanism has always fascinated me. It'd be something to see in HO or OO (I'd be surprised if it was in OO).
I did spot the leader running on the way past! The chaps at the KR models stall were telling people about you too which was good! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Didnt recognise you with glasses on Sam though you really are in your element here,a very pleasant look around. Locomotion is the draw for me though if any company ever decides to knock out a Lancashire,Derbyshire & East Coast Railway set from the 1897-1907 era prior to becoming Great Central stock i will be on it!
Shame theres no LMR livery for the Austerity 0-6-0STs given the amount of stuff we’ve got recently a modern Austerity saddle tank would be nice, I’ve wanted a model of the original condition 118 “Brussels” for a while.
Perhaps they will grow, it is the first year, how big was the show it replaced it's first year. Mind you the Amherst Model Railroad show in Massachusetts is five exhibition buildings... You and Chloe should take a bus man's Holiday and come here some year.😅
Yeah absolutely - I'm sure it'll grow - but I doubt the first Warley show was £80 for the weekend per couple, haha! That sounds absolutely amazing... how do you even get around all that!??! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I’ve wanted one of those J13s for years now, I didn’t really fancy the old Hornby one and I can’t wait for the new ones, if you do a future review of them that might decide which one I get.
Good video Sam - shame to say i swore never to return to the NEC as a complete rip off......car park cost, car park distance from the event, food costs..... Nope, not going back.
It seemed a lot more trader biased than Warley to me. The floor layout seemed rather slapdash, with layouts plonked between traders or even stuffed out in the middle of nowhere (Trinity Dock), and aisles were either spread wide or were bottleneck thin. They could do with improving the floor layout going forward.
Hmmm I'm not sure - I do remember a lot of traders at warley, but yes I suppose the traders were a bit more mixed in with the manufacturers... I suppose the fact that Dapol and Bachmann were missing didn't help the trader bias too. Thanks for sharing! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Have I missed some drama with KR? I've got a set of their consett iron ore wagons which I really like, and had no idea there was any negativity going round.
2:53 - Did we just see the birth of a new Sam's Train t-shirt? "Can I Touch Your Hunslet?" 🙂
hahahaha amazing idea!!!
@@SamsTrains Or have you got a tender behind? lol
Rapido also have Hunslets. With their model details I think I'd better be careful what I say 😉
What?! I almost thought that was a life-size model replica of Douglas, but no; he actually visited Birmingham? That's very nice of him.
hahaha!
She was over at Severn Valley Railway anyway, wasn’t really much of a jump to get over to the show.

Thanks so much Sam. I'm in NZ so couldn't get to the exhibition. You made it feel like I was there.
I had an email today from Hornby that the J13/52 is now on sale at £149.99
I believe that vibrant looking GWR green is done like that because the number of that specific pannier tank is the number that Duck from Thomas & Friends wore in the railway series.
Yeah it is - you might have noticed the face next to the loco too haha!

3:13 New Junction Spotted
Sorry to have missed you Sam, I wondered if you might be there, we had the Buggleskelly Station stand in the centre all weekend. The large amount of space at the end of the hall proved essential for getting our stands out on Sunday evening in the torrential rain as all the vehicles could get in at once, so from a trade POV it was much better. It was also a hell of a lot better organised than Warley which I think was getting to the point where it was too big for volunteers. We'll be back next year anyway :)
Ahh that is a pity - where abouts were you?! Would love to have seen your stuff... so sorry to have missed you!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains right in the middle about three stands down from Lawrie (Nearly Competent Modellers). No worries, see you at another one I'm sure
Hi Sam, great review. Ive been to warley at the nec the last 2 years but thus year done both statfold barn events. With a 7 year old theres more to do so cant see me going back to the nec for a while. Maybe worth a look as both events have been great.
Hi Sam, Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get to Birmingham. No thanks to Storm Bert.
Hope you enjoyed the show 👍
Ahh so sorry to hear that - the weather was extremely foul to be fair!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I wanted to go there so much but the weather was bad I hoped you loved it I hope I can go next year
Yeah don't blame you - the weather was horrid!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
great see great train show vlog lot of great train things thanks for the great vid on train show thanks four share
It's a pleasure my friend - really glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Thanks Sam. That was great. My wallet is nervous!
haha mine too!!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Poor Duncan needs an overhaul.
I really wish I could have been at this show but have all the Ivor projects on pre order can’t wait to get them
Ahh well - hopefully the video was a small substitute! Can't wait for Ivor!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Thanks so much Ian - it turns out Hornby's is quite a bit more expensive!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains O well - maybe it'll have Special Extra Features? A rather obscure prototype, anyway, though the preserved example was active on railtours in the early 60s. I think I'll save up my pennies for an Accurascale Hunslet!
For DCC Ready:
- The Rapido J13/J52s have an RRP of £164.95 or about £141.21 at model shops
- The Hornby Hunsletts have an RRP of £174.99* or about £157.49 in the model shops.
My Wallet says I can't buy them all, so I'm going to have to choose my favourites carefully, especially as I already have some pre-orders outstanding.😐🤔
I thought there were fewer layouts than at Warley, as well as no Dapol or Bachmann, but hopefully next year they'll be a few more and it was still good with plenty to see.
18:49 the the siderods are very crooked on that war department loco 😅
Hey Sam, really enjoyed that 🎉 just like going. Good to see the collaboration with Hornby and Rapido, much, much better. Interesting new stuff to come. How far away are the O1s do you think? Great background music too, really liked that, is it in the library?
Seems Warley is coming back next year according to there website so hope
Fun was had by all😅😅😅😅
haha very much so!!
21:15. Sam, have you ever reviewed a Shay? I'd love to see one. The mechanism has always fascinated me. It'd be something to see in HO or OO (I'd be surprised if it was in OO).
I never have - they really are fascinating isn't it!?
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The size issue could be due to it being a new event. I'm sure it'll get better every year as it becomes more established.
Yeah no doubt - I'm sure we'll be back again to see!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Its a pity you didn't see us running the KR model prototypes, we had the leader running all weekend and the clayton and Bellerophon on the Sunday
I did spot the leader running on the way past! The chaps at the KR models stall were telling people about you too which was good! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Didnt recognise you with glasses on Sam though you really are in your element here,a very pleasant look around. Locomotion is the draw for me though if any company ever decides to knock out a Lancashire,Derbyshire & East Coast Railway set from the 1897-1907 era prior to becoming Great Central stock i will be on it!
haha glad to hear the disguise worked!! Ah that'd be the dream... I'd buy that too!!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Shame theres no LMR livery for the Austerity 0-6-0STs given the amount of stuff we’ve got recently a modern Austerity saddle tank would be nice, I’ve wanted a model of the original condition 118 “Brussels” for a while.
hi sam, regarding these J52's i will go for who ever has a decent spares back up. so its not hornby !! quality control is not up to it,
Unfortunately I had to work so couldn't go. I'll try and get there next year.
I've been calling it Not Warley
Yeah I know - it's long overdue... and much like waiting for a bus, two have come along at once!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I totally missed you at the festival.
Ahh sorry to hear that Mike!!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@ At least I acquired a handful of Pre-Grouping steam locos.
Talyllyn Railway number 6 Douglas - not number 75. The 75 refers to their appeal. 👍
you should visit the yearly model train fair in the netherlands :0 zutphen, two days between 20-30 december : )
That sounds a lot of fun! We'd love to try some shows further afield!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@ np :) love to meer you there sometime, keep up the dun video’s and i love the prints ❤️
Good video Sam - shame to say i swore never to return to the NEC as a complete rip off......car park cost, car park distance from the event, food costs..... Nope, not going back.
1:56 That pannier tank pacificly is supposed to be Duck from Thomas & Friends. Heck i can see a duck face next to it.
No Peco? Maybe Dapol and Bachmann will come next year. Not sure many people would want to visit on both days.
Yes Peco were there but it was a very small stand with very little in display compared with at Warley!
When will Martin-mart-martinson Models appear at a model railway show?
Who saw the Milton Keynes cow
Have I missed some drama with KR?
I've got a set of their consett iron ore wagons which I really like, and had no idea there was any negativity going round.
early days yet, hopefully it'll fill out in coming years.
I'm sure it will do!
