Glad to see that at least one has been preserved. Keep up the good work (sorry, I’ve been out of the loop for a while with mild mental health issues, with stays in the Isla Ward at Milton Keynes Hospital and Mulberry 1 at Fulbourn Hospital in Cambridge, but I am being discharged tomorrow back to my maisonette at High Barns in Ely. Yippee!).
I remember cab riding in a class 58 around the Sittingbourne to Sheerness branch, shunting wagons in Ridam Siding and Sheerness Steel works in 2002! Was a great day, I was only 21 at the time and having just qualified as signaller in Sittingbourne Signal Box I jumped at the opportunity to get some route learning in, thankfully it wasn't a class 66, this was the last time I ever saw a class 58 on the mainline.
Fantastic. I always loved 58’s. One of my earliest memories was 58007 Drakelow Power Station visiting the SVR for a diesel gala and getting to sit in the cab with the driver at Kidderminster ❤. I’d love to see a photo of it from that day.
As somebody who has spent time working on Class 56 enhancements, but never seen a Class 58 before (save for some data recorder schematics), it’s very interesting to see the enhancements that were introduced in the 58 cab.
Cabbed it myself back in the day I also cabbed 58001 half built at Donny works with what looked like 500 miles of wiring hanging out of it. Two cab ends on frame no engine fitted & the frame of 58002 was behind it
Being a Geordie lad I never really saw Bones in service, just at depots while we were on railway/beer trips. Going to have to revisit my pics to see if I ever caught one moving. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
4:17 We always used our right fist to punch the emergency plunger. Using our left hand could result in a broken arm if catching the the other extremeties that were in the way.
Nice video nice locos. Shame they didn't get a good crack of the whip in years but as we know their main industry was taken away . I really think 58050 should be brought back over it was the last loco built at Doncaster works which you would assume the NRM would consider important I am sure many like I would gladly donate.
Yes, enjoyable video, but the ‘train’ thing really grates, a millennial thing perhaps? We seem to keep hearing more faux pas like that from younger enthusiasts on YT. Now back in my day we learned everything by rote, pouring over old copies of ‘Railway World’….
Great video, although I can't stand people who can't describe what their looking at properly. It is a Locomotive, not a train. A train is the Locomotive + what it has in tow. The powered vehicle (in this case 58023) is the Locomotive.
Really upped the production by the looks of it! Keep the vids coming 🚂 📈
Great loco, lovely to see it restored and running. Mainline livery wouldn't have been my first choice for it's debut tho.
Imagine being in and around Saltley at the time Bob was there. The variety of locos.
Saltley, sadly today is no more.
That is a nice informative video, thanks to you (and to Bob Dunn) for uploading it. I await the next part with great anticipation :).
LOCOMOTIVE!!
Such a delight to see a 58 back!!!
PBL stands for Poussoir Bouton Locomotive. Very nostalgic!😁
Almost the same in French and English when you think about it (and know what the abbreviation stands for).
Enjoyed that.. great to have someone so knowledgeable telling us his experience. Maybe other locomotives could feature in this series.

I managed to CAB this lovely locomotive. Thanks guys
Happily enough that loco is still here at the Severn valley railway

Thanks to Bob! I grew up near Didcot Power Station and would often see the 58s running through the MGR. Sadly all gone now 😢
Class 58's preserved !!!....I know feel officially 'bloody old' 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Very informative and interesting!

Hell fire loco ill take one over a shite shed any day!
Shame the 58s didn’t last very long. I always enjoyed Bob’s stories in Traction magazine.

It's been cut up
Are there any 58's still in Spain? All the examples in France have been scrapped.
Do you remember a driver Jim Allen?
😢
Grt vid thanks..but heh loco not train please!

What's this "I've been Atlas" thing? Is it a character that you play?
PBL = Poussoir Bouton Locomotive. He should remember, that’s what we were taught.

lol thanks for the reminder and sorry you cant stand me, will remember for next time. 😄
