The outriders having gaps is due to the push fit design of the models. the parts comprising the 2 halves of the bike have cylindrical pegs that goes inside cylindrical sockets. If you put a lot of glue on either the peg or the socket, it gets trapped inside the socket and compressed by the cylinder. Eventually there's a limit to how much the glue can be compressed so when you set the model down to go build something else, the two halves separate. The easiest fix for this is to trim down or clip off the pegs entirely, leaving no gaps.

My latest assembly was the Redemptor Dreadnought. That bugger took me 4-5h of assembly!
Why are there so many parts that require to be assembled, only to be hidden under a plate of armor?
Also, the piston that attaches the leg to the hip, my god. You have to glue the ring around the hip, without gluging the ring to the hip.
Finally, there are some pieces that are supposed to fit perfectly so that you don't have to glue them and thus keep an articulated body. Yeah well the bottom latch over the coffin is stuck, in my case. And I had to trim the armpits's joints for a solid half hour to make them rotate, otherwise my Dread would have been stuck in a T pose

So the Ork Kommandos were the first 40k Model Kit I ever built and they were horrible to put together due to their parts being spread across three different sprues. I had built other plastic models (Gundam) before and this initially put me off 40k a bit. Thankfully other models were not as bad in that regard. However, just recently I had a similar experience with the Night Lords kill team. I understand that the base of them is a regular CSM Legionaries kit, but they also have parts all over the place for individual miniatures, but at least similar parts are grouped together (e.g. all the backpacks are together).
I guess though this could be helped if GW had a sensible numbering scheme on their sprues, where parts were numbered according to location on the sprue, rather than according to when they show up in the instructions.

It's perhaps one of the other reasons GW kept the old ork boyz kit around, since it would doubly suck for lootas and burnas to have a weapon option restricted to an OOP kit. However the upside to the loota/burna kit is that the unit options don't share any parts, so if you get some spare ork bodies, you can make up a whole unit of burnas if you built lootas from the kit or vice versa.

eldar grav tanks. the falcon is the same kit that originally came out in 1997, it literally doesn't even have all the weapon options the falcon can take in the rules. for both the main body and upper turret, there's a pilot inside a cockpit, and the pilot glues into place and holds the hinge for the clear plastic cockpit glass. the way all these pieces fit together, you basically have to fully paint and varnish everything before you can finish assembling the model fully, because you won't be able to get a brush in there afterward. and then once you do that, the parts will not quite perfectly fit together (because the kit is so old) so you'll end up having to fill some gaps with green stuff or plastic putty, and then you'll need to re paint those areas where you dod that. combine all of that with the fact that it has a million weapon options that you will probably want to magnetize because of the insane rules churn in this game, and the fiddly flight stand it sits on... gorgeous models, but so much work to finish.

The basilisk is a weird one because it's got the gun platform sprues which are from the 90s, that go on the chimera hull sprues from the 2000s, but for the longest time GW didn't seem to bother updating the instructions. On top of leading to build mistakes it ends up causing confusion with people searching the sprues for a heavy bolter which despite being in the instructions isn't actually in the kit anymore.

100% on the Basilisk, I made one recently and it's awful. The smallest fiddliest bit is shown on the 'instructions' on the far side of the vehicle and so the assembly is completely obscured, just some dotted lines pointing somewhere on the right side, and pieces are shown in completely the wrong order and back to front!
My gun barrel came warped on the kit too, fortunately soaking it in boiling water allowed me to bend it back roughly true, plus there's a half-inch void between the base of the Chimera chassis and the firing deck, just a completely open hole with no blanking plate or anything. Just a miserable build.

Pretty much all of the modern monopose million parts kits are awful. We used to have a simple system for posing and parts, and that was arms, head, body, legs, and extras. Now it's left lower leg, back of torso, head (attached to right arm), right half of jaw, left lower arm, upper hand attached to gun, left hand attached to gun, right leg attached to waist, etc.
Why? Why continue to design minis like this?

Even when the Bloodletters were brand new, their torsos and legs never fit particularly well. The trick is to pair up the legs first, let them all dry, then start fitting torsos and adjusting as needed. Would also recommend building their heads and letting those dry while fitting the torsos to ease things along. A lot of the heads and arms kind of interfere with eachother too, I think as a consequence of them being primarily designed for Warhammer Fantasy Battles and having to fit snug on a 25mm square base, so their posability suffered.

My eternal hatred for a GW kit will always go towards that which isn't even a single kit, but three - noise marines. You buy the base Chaos Space Marine kit for $65. Then you buy two of the Noise Marine Upgrade Kits, which are resin, for $16.50, because you can't get enough to outfit a full squad without that. Then, if you want a few head options to make your noise marines look at all like noise marines or if you want the backpack that you're meant to be able to have on the sergeant, then you need to buy a third kit for another $16.50. So you could spend $114.50 to get one squad of 10. Or you could buy 10 of the specialty noise marines they made for display for $420. Or finally, you could buy two of the Forge World Kakophoni kits for $162, which are of course all in resin, and since they're some of the first minis made for the Horus Heresy the pieces have a decent bit of warping now. Probably the nicest thing I can say about the noise marine upgrade kits is that they're such solid pieces of resin that it's hard for there to be significant warping on those parts. But no, every potential option you have from GW kinda sucks.

All those kits where most of the weapons you can use aren't even in the box. I know they are kinda trying to remedy that in a very halfassed way by adapting the rules to certain kits, but in many cases it just would't work and would RUIN those units. Some examples: Drukhari Scourges who only have one of each weapon. Havocs who only have two and just one Reaper Chaincannon. Chaos Legionaries who don't have Lascannons and Reaper Chaincannons in their box AT ALL, although the Kill Team at least has one Reaper Chaincannon now. And despite the changes to Crisis Suits, you STILL can't build a full Sunforge unit and only mixed weapon Fireknifes/Starscythes units with what's in the box. I'm currently updating my CSM army with a couple of more Legionaries and the amount of proxying I have to do...oh boy...

It was clear that they were very new to the concept of digital design; some some components were designed with compensation for the slight angle (necessary for mold release) of mating parts, but others were a flat and awkward butt joint. Though I can also heartily agree about the Flayed Ones, I think every single one I have has at least one mildly broken claw. Fiddly little bastards.

'... even with superglue'. Yes, if you used the adhesive least well suited to the task and deliberately avoided using appropriate glues things might not stick, clearly a massive design flaw.

As a guy who does 4 foot drop tests on my models to test the construction, I love metal. GW plastic at least modern sculpts are very fragile with lots of easy to break parts. Metal is easy to bend back in shape and glue back together.

I think this is most new kits. Too many pieces, small contact points, some actually need instructions. Would take the old catachans over anything gw put out the last 10 years simply because they are actually a pleasant to assemble especially en mass.

I'm to this day wondering if I'm the only one who has the problem with the Tzaangor kit. Lot of their models have one of their knees have little to no detail due to the casting problem. I got several different sprues from different sources and all of them have this issue that drives me nuts.

For me its the sprue attachment points that anoy me quite a lot. A lot of times the attachment points are in very difficult areas close to the detail or straight in the detail of the plastic part. When making a scale model from lets say Tamiya the attachment points are really thin and well hidden away from the detail.

For me, the most atrocious kit was Killteam Aeldari Corsairs. Parts for every model scattered across all three sprues. And on the sprues neither parts grouping or numbers didn't have any sense. You could have numbers 1, 69, and 420 together. But these were different parts for different models - i.e. Head from model A, leg from model C, and some random dangly bit you could optionally glue to model D or G. I swear, I've got few gray hairs from gluing these.

One of the things that annoys me that isn’t just a GW issue, but a lot of miniature war game issue is when they intentionally make a piece that could have been 1 piece into 2, 3 or more pieces!!! Like at no point do you actually need to make a head 2 or 3 pieces!!! And since the head put together is such a small piece, good luck being able to hold and glue the even smaller pieces together and NOT to your fingers! Arms and legs are ok to a certain point! But that is only if I have the option to position them any way I want and they still look good!!! Now I don’t mind putting these guys together! Actually that’s my 2nd favorite thing to do with this hobby! But there is no need for hundreds of tiny pieces when most of them could have been way less pieces and still look great!!!

Worst one in existence is deathrattle skeletons. The sprue gates are on the femurs, meaning that it is extremely lucky to get a box where taking them out doesn't snap the legs entirely from handling/shipping/shelf life but actually assembling the models and snipping from the sprue leads to snapping and breakages.
Avoid. Deathrattle Skeletons. Like. The plague.
